USB iPod Dock crashes Mini
I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I can't find it. I haven't been able to update my ipod for ages because connecting the dock to a USB port crashes my mini. I've tried all ports. I've tried unplugging other devices. I believe it WILL start with my mouse unplugged, but I can't figure out how to get past the window that then keeps searching for my mouse. Not to mention it is then hard to get around. I've tried other mice. Still doesn't like mouse and dock. This is the universal dock. My ipod is the 30 GB video. Should I get another kind of dock?
Yes, I had tried every port and various permutations of which device was in which port. It seems to be a case of WHAT I have plugged in with the USB cable. I also plugged in an Apple mouse instead of the third party one I had been using. I AM also using a third-party keyboard. I don't have an Apple substitute for that. I don't plug anything into a low-powered port, such as a keyboard one.
I am certain that the mouse is not USB 2 and, possibly, the keyboard. My printer isn't either. I don't know about the iPOD cable. But I wonder if having so many USB 1 devices plugged in may be the problem....

Look the dock connector on your iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corred contacts, foreign material and cracked/broken plastic.

IPod dock connected to both firewire and usb at same time
I have 3 ipods, 3G 4G 60gb photo 5G 80gb vid. I have a 5G doc and a dual usb / firewire cable. I prefer to manage my 3G and 4G using firewire as it is oh so quicker. However 5G requires usb2 only. I have a Apple 'dual' usb/firewire port cable that at the moment to use I alternate which socket is plugged into the front port of my PowerMac G5 as they are the only spare ports I have.
I just bought an Iomega Ultra Max which comes with a built in firewire and usb hub that means i now have enough ports to dedicate one of each to the ipods but want to use only one dock and so I would like to plug both the firewire and usb iPod cable into the hub and leave them there connected to the iPod dock. I know it won't cause problems when the 5G is connected as there is no hardware for firewire connection. But the 4G has both.. will I encountering a usb and firewire conenction cause problems and possible damage to the ipod or my PowerMac G5, will the 4G ipod use firewire in prefeance to USB if it will work???Hi iPodista;
I would recommend very strongly that you don't even attempt do this. Generally cross connecting in this fashion is a very good way to get yourself into serious troble.

I recently purchased a adapter for my ipod, and followed all directions completely.
I connected it to my ipod through the Ipod Dock the right way, and made SURE of it.
Now, the end that is currently connected to the adapter is STUCK! I've been pulling and tugging gently and once roughly, but to no avail! Any suggestions?Checked the other posts and it seems we still have to buy an AC charger to make sure it's charging properly. sigh I took mine to the Apple service center after several attempts to restore and reset it. They said they'll send me a brand new replacement in three weeks. It's been 2 weeks now so I got a few more ipod mini-less days to go...

HELP! I have a 2008 BMW 5 series that came with a built in USB Ipod connector.
I have an older IPOD dock connector touch wheel that plugs right in to the plug that BMW gave me but won't read on the display.I tried another plug and still, the Ipod is not working in the car. Do I have to download additional software? Is my Ipod model not compatible with the new BMW ipod system. Any ideas would be appreciated. How to use bluetooth ipod dock and external speakers together
Hi
Is there anyway to make my speakers, conected to the headphone socket at the rear of my iMac, and a bluetooth Ipod dock play together.
I've bought a Bose dock with bluetooth thinking I could then have the radio or songs playing in two different rooms but I can't seem to find out how to make the computer play through the speakers and the bluetooth, I have to pick one or the other.
It's on OSX 10.6.7

Apple's marketing strategy is all too clear to me now. They didn't discontinue the mini, their best selling iPod, because that's what everyone is trying to copy. They discontinued it because they felt sales of the mini were cannibalizing sales of hte regular iPod. If you wanted something more compact than the iPod but wanted dock connectivity to all the various accessories, you bought a mini. Now you buy the nano for compactness AND the regular iPod to use with the accessories. So where one product satisfied two needs for the average user (not the afficianados that have iPod collections) Apple will now happily sell you two products.
To all those people who asked what the mini has that the nano doesn't, this looks like it: line out audio through the dock connection. A very important feature! -

Need some help here. I've just upgraded from my old 10gb iPod to a nano, and everything is fine until I try to listen to it through my external JBL creature speakers. IPod (dock connector) Apple on screen - dead?
Okay, so I haven't used my ipod in oh, a year or so. It's been sitting in its dock, firewire plugged in, and I hadn't really noticed when it stopped showing up on the desktop. Today I pulled it out of the dock and saw it wouldn't do anything (go figure, I suddenly want to use it). The Apple is on the screen.
Checked the hold button.
Tried to reset it. Apple would flash off then back on, you can hear the drive making noise, but nothing ever happens.
Tried plugging it directly into power outlet and nothing new happened.
Any clue what may be wrong with it? Thought I'd try leaving it out of the dock and off power and see if the battery would drain and maybe powering it back up after that might fix it. If not, anyone got a clue what could be wrong with it and how much it might cost me to fix it?Hello,

4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, such as “Partition Magic”.

Ipod works off mini, not on powersupply, Genius thinks hard drive???

My son has a clickwheel iPod. When connected to iTunes it works fine. Plugged into the charger it doesn't. I get a folder with an exlamation point and a web address for Apple support, then shuts off.
The genius bar thought it might be a hard drive issue yet it works fine connected to the MacMini. Iwould have thought a battery problem. Unfortunately it's a few months past warranty.

Here is what I want to happen. Come back from college listening to iPod, remove headphones place into dock and let the music play through my sound system. Then when I need to update my iPod open iTunes and start autosync. Is this possible with out unplugging my USB cable and replugging it in.
So far what happens is the second I dock the iPod it goes to Do not diconnect and all music stops. I changed all the settings in the ipod preferences like open itunes when connected, automatically sync, use as disk drive. Using different combinations and also disabled the drive from device manager but then when I open iTunes it doesnt sync.
Is there anything I can do?Mine just did the same thing,try holding the center and the menu buttons at the same time it worked for mine.

Iphone Ipod is crashing and it wont come up in ITunes! Help!
I have a 16G 3Gs and yesterday, I was using my phone on a bose dock and suddenly the iPod started crashing. I can bring up itunes and it seems to respond for 3-5 seconds and then just closes out to the main screen.
Everything else seems to be working fine, the phone doesnt lock up or anything. I tried doing a hard reset to no avail. I had it plugged into a usb connection on my car stereo and it would play pandora music but my stereo never fully recognized the phone. I just kept saying "Reading..." the entire time, never got an error.
Now that im home, I plugged it into my computer to restore my phone and ITunes doesnt see it, though the computer recognizes it. Any suggestions?
My info: 3Gs 16gig, iOS 4, Windows 7, Itunes 9.2.0.61I have the same problem. After reseting my ipod classic 80 GB I have a screen telling me to use the restore function. I have the latest iTunes version, I did restore but when the iPod restart I get the message "your iPod is corrupt, use restore function". I tried to restore again but the same message appear

Her iTunes account was on an old laptop long gone
She does not know what her old Apple ID details for her iPod are.
I have now bought her a mini iPad and we have a new laptop Windows 7
She has an Apple ID for her iPad.
How do we transfer her iPod music to a new iTunes account on the Laptop without losing it all? I am aware of the horror stories surrounding Apple on this issue. If so in ‘Janet and John’ how do we do it?
Can we just sync the iPod to the laptop? Using her new Apple ID?
Be very grateful for any help and advice on this
Thanks ErnieMore than likely, your laptops do not have the high power USB ports necessary to charge an iPad. They will charge the iPad, but incredibly slowly. In fact, if the screen comes on, it draws too much power and causes the not charging message to show.
Your best bet is to sync with the computer, then use the provided power adaptor to charge the iPad from a wall outlet. -
Using my shuffle on an Ipod dock
I have an Ipod shuffle, generation 2 with the USB dock.
I also have an Ipod dock that was universal, it had the attachments to attach any ipod needed. It also has a USB port but when I plug in my ipod shuffle, and change the settings to 'ipod' it doesn't work.
The make of my Ipod dock is a TEAC ipod dock, model GR-7I, 2006

Does the manufacturr say it will work with your model iPod and its iOS?
Not all iPod models and iOS are compatible.

IPod Dock Photo / IPod Dock 3rd Gen Question
I just recycled my old battery exhausted 3rd Gen 20gig Ipod and bought the 20gig Ipod Photo.
Question: Can I use my old Ipod Dock (minus the S-Video Out of course) to transfer music and photos?
It doesnt seem to connect completely. I see the pod via itunes. I can see the disk via "My Computer" but the transfer of information seems to stop dead.
Any answers?Yes it works perfectly with both my firewire and USB. (which of course begs the question "Why am I trying to get the dock to work - it looks pretty on the desk and I dont want to shell out more coin for the Ipod photo dock).
Its just annoying to have the PC and ITunes both recognize the Ipod with the Dock but not allow music/file transfer.
My thoughts are different pin configuration?
