USB Keboard and Mouse frozen after 10.6 install

After 2 aborted installs (sinning wheel) on a brand new (1 day old) iMac I got Snow Leapard to install. Except the new Apple keyboard and mouse (both USB) were frozen. Tried other USB keyboard and mice and they don't work either. Tried pairing a Bluetooth mouse and it did work. Am I missing a setting somewhere. I want to use the new USB devices rather than buying bluetooth devices.
Help please?
Thank you.

I have a similar problem. After the 10.6 upgrade my keyboard and sometimes my mouse stop responding. Unplugging them and plugging them back fixes the problem (temporarily). I haven't checked any other USB devices (printer) to see if they're affected, but here's the really strange part: I had to downgrade back to 10.5.8 due to some other compatibility issues (via the restore from Time Machine option, so 10.6 was completely wiped from the system), but I still have the problem with the USB mouse and keyboard. The system is a Mac Pro 2.66 dual core Xeon (dual processor), the keyboard is the standard Apple keyboard, and the mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse. I didn't have any problems with this set up from the time I got it until I tried the 10.6 upgrade.
I've tried all of the obvious solutions (completely powering off the system, disconnecting USB devices, etc) but I still have the problem.

  • Why don't my Apple USB keyboard and mouse work in Win XP after bootcamp driver installed

    Hey there,
I just installed Win XP Pro + SP2 using Bootcamp 3.0 on my Mac Pro 1.1 (2006) which is running Snow Leopard (10.6.8).  The Win XP installation went flawlessly and everything seemed to be working OK (mouse & keyboard were fine) until I installed the Bootcamp drivers from my OS X installation DVD.  The installation didn't report any problems, but when it was finished, the keyboard (Apple USB keyboard) and mouse (Logitech USB mouse) stopped responding.  No power to the mouse at all makes me believe that it is actually the USB drivers themselves that have failed.  Rebooting WinXP didn't solve the problem - it boots WinXP just fine (and fast!), shows the Bootcamp Help screen, but no mouse or keyboard, a.k.a., USB, response.
Can I recover from this somehow?
    Help please?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Problem solved.
It seems that the boot camp 3.0 drivers installed from my 10.6.8 DVD weren't sufficient.  I repeated the install from scratch, but rather than rebooting as soon as the BC 3.0 drivers were installed, I allowed the Apple Update utility to D/L and install the BC 3.1 and 3.2 updates.  Viola!  Everything works brilliantly.  My Mac Pro is now the best Windows PC I have ever owned

  • Using USB Keyboard and Mouse with S6000-f Ideatab

First you need a Microusb to USB adaptor pluged in, then plug in a usb hub I'm using a 4 port unpowered mini hub
then plug in a usb keyboaed and mouse.
it works good in Kingsoft office and AndrOpen office or any app that needs you to type
it does disable the touch pad keyboard, until you unplug the usb keyboard.  It's alot cheaper than a blue tooth keyboard
I'm using a Samsung micro usb to usb connector model EPL-AU10WEGXAR
Keyboards tested:  Dynex usb and Acer usb
    Mouse tested: Kingston usb
Any usb keyboard and Mouse should work.
Also I tested a Thumb drive. Sandisk 8gig  it shows up in the file manager .
So you dont have to use a MicoSD card.  The one thing  back up and restore only uses the MicroSD card slot.
I havent found out how to change that yet.
I dont think any of this is in the Manual   I just like to share useful Info.

Since my G5 died I was thinking about getting a Mac Mini, but I have a ViewSonic Monitor (from 2004) and a USB keyboard and mouse - I also have the external drive that I downloaded my files on to. Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it? Would I have to get a hub so I could use the stuff I already have? Is that viewsonic too old to work on it?
What else would I need? Please advise...

    Yes for keyboard and mouse.
The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter

    Thanks a lot
Just want to add that I had to edit grub at start up and add "single" at the end of the kernel line.
The reason is that switching to runlevel 3 didn't work for me.

  • Frozen and still frozen after reboot

Macbook Airs frozen and still frozen after reboot?

    Greetings Ging ging,
It seems your MacBook Air is frozen and is not responding after starting up. You may want to consider performing a PRAM reset, which may help you get your device back up and running:
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
If your Mac doesn’t seem to be remembering your speaker volume, display resolution, or the disk it should be using during startup, you may need to reset your computer’s PRAM.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Important:   To print these instructions, click the Share button  in the Help window, then choose Print.
Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting your computer’s PRAM, you may need to update your speaker volume, display resolution, and startup disk preferences. For more information about PRAM, see the Apple Support article About NVRAM and PRAM.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

    Hi Stu,,
thanks for the reply.. I plug to the back of the main motherboard USB which is just above the network connection..would it be a BIOs issue as its only a 1.1B4 which is a beta BIOS firmware?

Is your mouse plugged into the mainboard USB port, or to USB ports on an external bracket or front panel connector?
I have a Razor Copperhead mouse, which I keep as a backup for when my rechargeable wireless mouse decides it needs recharging (). It is usually tucked away under my desk, connected to a front panel USB port, but still I need to unplug it and reconnect it before I can use it. Same problem as you, but different mainboard and mouse, but its never bothered me as its not my main mouse...
I'll move this to Intel area, where you can get better answers...

  • Want Mac mini and G4 to share Display and USB keyboard and mouse

I bought a KVM switch at a local electronics store. I got the only one that claimed Mac compatibility (PPA Int'l). I can't plug the switch into the G4 Cube. No such ports. With the adapter that accompanied my brand new Mac Mini, I can plug the KVM monitor port into the mini's monitor port, BUT that port is currently being used by the Apple DVI-to-ADC adapter I bought so I can connect my Cinema Display to the Mac mini.
The KVM switch wants 3 ports on each computer: a VGA (monitor) port, the keyboard port, and the mouse port; but the keyboard/mouse connectors are not USB.
As things stand--without the switch--I can shut down whatever computer I'm working on (mini or Cube), unplug the display from one, connect it to the other, power up and everything's fine. I suppose the only advantage with the KVM switch is being able to power off, switch, then power on without having to move the display plug.
My QUESTION is, does anybody manufacture a KVM switch I can use between two Macintosh computers to share use of my USB keyboard powered from a USB port on the display, and my USB mouse powered from a USB port on the keyboard?
Or is the answer NOT to go for the convenience of a KVM switch?
Does it matter that the mini OS is Leopard, and the Cube OS is Tiger?
I am heartily impressed with the mini. Setup was over in 5 minutes, and I must say it's fast. Appreciate any help from the experts. --Spot

I had the same problem, and finally came up with two other alternative solutions.
First, if you have a recent LCD monitor, it is fairly simple and cheap. The Mini has a digital connection for the monitor. My G4 400 MHz has both digital and analog connections. I have a Samsung 19 inch widescreen monitor that has both a digital and an analog input. I connected the G4 to the monitor using the analog input with my old cable, and connected the Mini using the digital input. The Samsung has a switch that will use either the digital or analog input - very easy.
Now the keyboard and mouse. I got a 6 foot USB cable with the A plug on one end and B plug on the other, plugged the A plug end into the G4, and ran the cable with the B plug up near the Mini. It helps to keep it close. You already have the keyboard/mouse plugged into the Mini. You simply unplug the keyboard cable from the Mini, and plug it into the B plug from the G4. Switch the monitor from digital to analog, and you have the G4 (remember to start it up). Once you have run the cables, it takes about 10 seconds to make the switch.
Second, and I use both ways, is to get an inexpensive wired router. I bought a Belkin 4 port router (about $30, I think), got a couple Cat 5 cables, hooked both the Mini and G4 up to the router, along with my internet connection, and have both computers available on one monitor with no physical switching involved. You will need to go to System Preferences/Sharing and turn on Personal File Sharing (there may be another change, but I can't remember it right now).
When all is hooked up, you go to GO in the Finder Menu Bar (make sure the G4 is booted before doing this) click on either NETWORK or CONNECT TO SERVER, find your G4 and connect. It may be confusing the first few times, but it works great because you have access to both computers at once, along with your internet connection - the best of both worlds!
I did this in January of this year, so please forgive me if I have forgotten a step somewhere. Ask me and I'll be glad to try to walk you through it. The first solution is the simplest to do, and the second in the most versatile. It's your choice.
Hope this helps. Just don't be intimidated by it - if I can figure it out, we can get you connected. Good luck!

My ipda is showing a USB plug and cable with an itunes icon and is frozen

Is this the first time you've fired it up? If so, what it wants you to do is to attach it to a computer that's running ITunes 10.5. iTunes will then 'see' the iPad and start a dialogue box to activate the iPad.
