Usb keyboard not recognized in mac - working in windows

Hello,
I am facing a strange issue with a usb numeric keyboard.
After some plug-ins/outs one night, it stopped being recognized in my iMac.
Actually, system profiler shows the following:
Vendor-Specific Device:
  Product ID:          0x6560
  Vendor ID:          0x04b4  (Cypress Semiconductor)
  Version:          90.15
  Speed:          Up to 480 Mb/sec
  Location ID:          0x26200000 / 3
  Current Available (mA):          500
Current Required (mA):          Unknown (Device has not been configured)
The keyboard, doesn't work either with my MacBook Pro. USB ports are working fine with any other devices.
I recently tried with a windows machine of a friend and the keyboard worked fine there.
Both my macs are running 10.6.8
Any ideas ?

I have the same problem. I found I can unplug the keyboard and when replugged, everything works OK.
I just upgraded to OS V10.6.4 and still must unplug and replug the keyboard in order to type.
WHY?

Have a late 2012 macbook pro 13 inch running OSX 10.8.2.  I want to use the apple usb keyboard and external display, but the keyboard will not work when I plug in the usb.  I tried the software update and restarting.  Any ideas?

I understand the Minimate is not just a USB hub, but it's USB expansion ports are still a hub from the mini's perspective. For this reason you should try plugging the keyboard directly into the mini, and I strongly suggest that as your best way to connect the keyboard.
If I understand your description correctly, when you have problems is when you turn off the display at the switch. This is probably the whole source of your problem, as the mini is then falling back to a 'headless' mode. I do not recommend this method. Adding the fact that your keyboard is not physically, directly connected to the mini I'm not surprised you are having such an issue. These types of circumstances basically make a Mac under OS X think it's being run as a system that's remotely operated.

  • Wireless USB Device not recognized by Mac OSX

Help! I just bought a Hawking Technology Wireless-G USB Adapter. I followed the directions carefully and installed the software from the CD, then I inserted the adapter into the USB port on my Mac, and... nothing happened! According to the directions, a window was supposed to pop up after going to (System Preferences --> Network) saying that another device has been recognized. It's like my USB ports have been disabled or something. Unfortunately, I don't have any other Mac-compatible computer stuff that plugs into USB ports, so I don't know if the problem is my computer or if the problem is the Wireless adapter. What can I do?

Wow... Mac OS X 10.3 technically is not even supported on that old PowerBook, if it's a "Powerbook G3 Series" (aka Wallstreet).
Actually, it's strange that it is called a +Powerbook G3 Series+ because that model only went up to 300 MHz speed. Does it have a built-in USB port?
My guess for why it doesn't work is because that wireless product may need to have USB 2.0 ports. If your PowerBook as USB ports built-in, they are USB 1.1 ports.

  • Extension not installing on Mac, works on Windows

I have written a safari extension which I'm able to install on Windows Safari, but it's not installing on a Mac Safari. On mac, when the link to the extension is clicked, executable text shows up (the initial bit is pasted here) -
    xar! D}!? jz{_gw JqKt` H35$ Z8S1 wU2 0 \WCy. )1;L 51?k #c^ < "at* tcj* bZ6YhA x+XEsL H[c# m 2t &5{u<Z$ mfG# (Rt? :Lt%W 93in MP4% 3vBnV =-|7 DHz7O
The extension is available here http://snake.ims.uwm.edu/articlesearch/extensions.php . It was packaged on a Windows Safari (I don't have access to a Mac, but the bug was reported from two different sources).
Any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks. The following code worked for me (for others!)
    <?php
    header("Content-type: application/x-safari-extension");
    header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=figsearch.safariextz");
    readfile("figsearch.safariextz");

  • USB device not recognized for iphone

My iphone 4S had an issue and was sent away for repair and in the end it was replaced. I backed all my Apps up to ITunes before sending it away.
I tried plugging my new Iphone into my laptop and it comes up with the error "USB device not recognized", although it worked fine before I sent the phone away.
I went to my device manager and found the device, however it says Unknown device and when I try to update it is says that this is the most up to date version.
I uninstalled ITunes and reinstalled it which made no difference. ITunes also does not find the phone.
I also removed all the Apple programs on my laptop and then tried to connect the phone again but this made no difference.
I have restarted the laptop and this also made no difference.
I called the Apple help line and they can not work it out and suggest I take the phone back to the shop to be checked.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

DId you uninstall iTunes and all it's components? Or just the iTunes program?  Apple Mobile Device would be the main cause more than likely. So it is important whether you uninstalled all the programs or just iTunes. If so what I would try next is putting the device into recovery mode and seeing if it detects it like that.

  • Itouch - USB device not recognized and Itouch now no longer works

I'm now on my 3rd Itouch since December all due to the same problem. All seemed to be going well with my 3rd replacement Itouch. Having loaded most of my cd collection into ITunes the night before I was going on holiday I synced my Itouch. Some sort of automatic download took place I think from Microsoft and suggested my drivers were being updated. Next thing I got message to restore my Itouch to factory settings. I did this and all the problems I had with my previou Itouch's started again.
When I now plug my Itouch into my laptop it says "USB device not recognized" and the Itouch will not switch on. I've done everything including reinstalling Itunes, holding down the power and home key but to no avail. Looks like I'm going to have to send my Itouch back again. I have a suspicion that a Microsoft download is corrupting the drivers. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. I really like my Itouch but the fact it keeps failing leads me to wonder if I should opt for something else.

I had success with the holding down the keys and connecting to usb and using itunes to restore firmware like they show here

  • USB Device Not Recognized

    Operating system:  Windows Vista
    Error:  USB Device not recognized
While actively on the computer, we suddenly got a message stating that the USB Device was not recognized.  The only thing plugged in to the USB port was a mouse.  Tried all the ports, same message.  Tried another mouse, same thing.  Tried a thumb drive, and low and behold, 2 of the 3 USB ports worked.  Tried a URL from MS which is supposed to help with this exact problem and possibly fix it:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices
    This didn't work.
Contacted HP support and they wanted me to restore back to a restore point as well as updating my BIOS.  After searching the issue more extensively using Google, I found that several people said to do this:
    Shut down the computer
    Remove the power plug
    Remove the battery
    Put the battery back in
Power up the computer (without the power plug)
    This forces a hard reset.
Almost as if by magic, the problem disappeared.  A much simpler and less technical solution to the problem than what HP recommended!!!!

  • "USB device not recognized" when ipod plugged in???

    (ipod mini 4gb)
When I plug my ipod into my laptop I get the message: "USB device not recognized." It says the device has malfunctioned!!! If I click on this error message it says my ipod is an unknown device and no drivers are installed for it???
It was working fine until a few days ago. If i reset it I can charge it up but that's all, it still does not appear in itunes or on my computer.
I've tried eveything on the help website but nothing works! Can anyone help?!
    patriot 3050   Windows XP

ok my question is do you have a mac or windows based laptop
here is why and what happened to my ipod mini
my ipod mini was connected to my macintosh charging while i was using my imac and it came up with a system update 10.4.3 i installed it and finished installing it and afterwards my apple wouldn't recongnize my ipod mini or even display it one the screen i found out by myself that when the apple update got to the end of the update it installed new hard drive drivers but also installed the drivers on the ipod mini which locked out the mini's internal hard drive and my mini then stop responding it would play music and charge but wouldn't connect to the computer
so what i did to fix it was this
i went into utilites in mac os x tiger or any version of os x has this and selected disk utility you will notice that the ipod will appesr in disk utility but not on the desktop this is due to a recent system update driver that isn't compatible with the internal drive on the ipod mini so in disk utility just select format the drive in a mac os partition standard works the best it will then format the ipod and the ipod will apear in the desktop again but not as a ipod let me explain when you format the ipod using the disk utility it formats and even erases the firmware of of the hard drive on the mini so when you are done formating the ipod run the ipod updater to reinstall the ipod's operating system and presto your ipod will now work again
warning: i don't know how to fix this on a ipod in windows so if this is a windows based laptop you need to find someone witha macintosh to do this with sorry

  • Usb device not recognized on shuffle

i have a belkin usb 2.0 device with 2 ports. it is plugged into my ibm thinkpad laptop. the mouse works fine in both ports -as does a photo scanner. but for some reason, the ipod shuffle is not recognized - i keep getting a green blinking lite and a message that says "usb device not recognized". funny, because the shuffle worked fine the other week when i installed all the software after purchase. i've updated windows software and reset the ipod. i've read elsewhere that some people have had the same problem - and that it was a malfunctioning usb port on the ipod shuffle. if so, what a piece of junk. maybe i just need to call tech support and ask for a new shuffle - i don't think that downloading the updater, etc. will help. any suggestions? thanks.

If it's working with other computers (using the same USB cable to connect the shuffle), then the problem is probably related to your computer.
If you connect something else to the same USB port (like a USB flash drive if you have one), does it work?
If you are using a USB hub to connect the shuffle, be sure to try a port that is directly on the computer.  And try more than one port that is on the computer.
Also, it may be helpful to know some other details, such as type of computer (Windows or Mac) and the version of OS.
Since this is a laptop, if it has a main battery that can be removed, you may want to try disconnecting it from power and removing the battery.  Leave it that way for a new minutes.  Then, put the battery back, start it up, run iTunes first, and try the shuffle again.  If there was a problem with your USB ports, that may correct it.

  • USB device not recognized in Windows 7?

I have the strangest problem I've yet to encounter with my computer.
As you may have guessed from the title, I am constantly getting the message displayed.  Any fix that has been suggested has been unhelpful or worked for a bit until my computer restarted again (I'll get to that)
First off it started when I noticed my mouse pointer was acting very weird, it was just a vertical line of dots.  A forum said an easy fix to the problem was to update my GPU drivers, which I needed to do anyway.  So after an update to the GPU drivers
I log into my computer (which is password protected, this is slightly important to remember) and I try to go to youtube.  I click down at the start menu to type in chrome and nothing appeared.  I was able to move the mouse around and click on things
but I was unable to type anything.
Luckily for me I have a laptop as well so I checked for any solutions on my laptop and they said that it was a problem with the model of my keyboard specifically  This was odd to me considering most of the problems happened OTB for the keyboard and not
a month after use, plus I was able to plug it into my laptop and it worked just fine.  When I plugged it back into my desktop it gave me the same problem: I couldn't type anything, I also noticed the little pop-up informing me that the USB device was
not recognized.  "Well, great, time to get my backup keyboard," I thought to myself.  Except, that was not the case either.  I plugged my backup keyboard into every single USB port on my Computer Tower, even going so far as to unplug
the mouse.  Absolutely nothing was working.  I constantly restarted my computer and each time got the same problem; I'm able to type in my password to log in and then a few minutes after that the USB device stops working.  Sometimes after plugging
one of the keyboards back into a USB port I would get a message saying it was installing drivers; and then would fail in installing any.
After a bit I navigate through the menus with just my mouse and do a system restore to before the GPU drivers were installed.  After that, I started windows in SafeMode and then turned my computer off.  Finally, I unplugged my computer completely
of all plugs (including my power plug), waited a few minutes, then plugged everything back in again.  Amazingly, this fixed the problem, but then it got worse.
After about an hour of gaming, my computer BSOD's, most likely because I decided to alt+tab out of Tomb Raider during a loading screen to stop a video I had on.  I restart my computer again, and then the problem returns, only this time absolutely
no USB devices work except my one keyboard.  The backup keyboard, and both my regular mouse and backup mouse stop working a few minutes after logging in.  I try to fix the problem like before, but to no avail.  Any USB device I plug in either
gives me the "USB device not recognized" or attempts to install the drivers and then fails.
If there is ANY way to fix this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

Try cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone. Use a magnifying glass to see what is stuck inside, a dry toothbrush and/or wood or plastic toothpicks (nothing metal). If that doesn't resolve the problem your phone is broken.

  • USB Device Not Recognized issues

I have a Qosmio X505-Q860 and I've been getting the 'USB Device Not Recognized' error constantly for several months. I've never plugged anything into any of my USBs and the error is now causing a nice Blue Screen (which happened about 4 times yesterday within 1 hour). I've tried uninstalling the problem USB hub but it keeps telling me that it failed to uninstall (I'm on my administrator account when doing this). How in the world do I get rid of this so my computer stops crashing and driving me crazy!?
Edit: I should also mention that everything is up to date (I check often and checked just now).
"A stopped clock is still right twice a day."

I suggest trying another USB cable. If you are positive that your cable is not the issue then try resetting the iPod and booting into disk mode (Hold menu+select down until Apple logo appears. Then hold menu+play/pause down and the iPod will go into disk mode, see if the computer recognizes it then. If that works then their is either a software issue on the computer or a firmware issue. Worth trying to restore but backup all your iPod's files first!

  • "USB Device Not Recognized" Bubble/ Ipod won't connect to Windows

Whenever i connect my ipod to my computer the ipod goes to "do not disconnect" and a bubble pops up on my computer saying "USB DEvice Not Recognized" i have switched it to all of my usb ports and unplugged all usbs except for my mouse at the same time. this happens 95% of the time. my ipod does charge while connected and it has only connected to itunes once in the past 2 weeks. im not sure if it is itunes because it started around the time i updated to itunes 7. since it is a windows bubble though i think it is a windows or ipod problem and not itunes. i have a dell that isnt great but works fine.
    thanks for any help.
    ... Go TTU!

Make that two idiots. My roommate got a Sansa and I decided to try out the cable. Nothing happened. Now suddenly my nano isn't recognized by my computer. I'm glad I read your post, now I can stop looking high and low for a solution. Until this happened it worked good as new.

  • USB device not recognized ... any help ?

    Hey guys,
So i went to plug my iPhone 3G into my PC running Windows Vista and it comes up with the error message,
    "USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
Last time this happened I uninstalled the USB Root Hubs on my computer and when they reinstalled my iPhone connected, but it has happened again and this method no longer works.
I've tried restoring my phone, turning it on and off, i tried stopping my computer from turning off my USB ports but to no avail...its getting very frustrating because i can't sync my phone
ANY suggestions would be great PLEASEEEE!

Try a different port and a different USB cable.
