USB keyboard not working before the OS loads after upgrading BIOS on T60...

Hi all,
I have another problem with my T60.
In order to try adding a fingerprint reader, I upgraded the BIOS to version 2.25 last night. The upgrade was successful but, however, my USB keyboard could not function before the OS load, not in the boot screen, nor the BIOS, nor the boot loader menu.
I have double checked the USB option is set to "Enabled" in the BIOS,
What's wrong?
Thanks,

I have a similar problem. I have a ThinkPad T60 1951-F8G running Windows XP with latest Windows updates. I use a USB attached IBM enhanced performance keyboard and Microsoft optical mouse. I recently updated the BIOS to v2.25 and a disk cleanup of my C: drive. On attempting to restart the system, the startup progressed only to the initial Windows XP screen with the 3 blue dots moving very slowly, and startup went no further. I repeatedly powered off the system and attempted restart without success.
I restored the system to an earlier version using ThnkVantage Rescue and Recovery, updated Windows XP to the latest level, and updated Lenovo system software from the Lenovo PC support site using ThinkVantage System Update to the latest level including updating the BIOS to v2.25. Again, I had the mouse and keyboard directly attached to the USB ports in the ThinkPad. All was well until I replugged the keyboard and mouse into an attached Belkin USB 2.0 4-port pocket hub which resulted in a chain of new searches for new USB drivers to install. The next system restart failed, and it was necessary to return to use the last successful configuration. System restart is now decidedly risky with the system freezing at various stages of startup.
Prior to installing BIOS v2.25 I had not encountered any such startup problems. This does suggest that there is a problem with USB support in BIOS v2.25.

hello, recently my apple usb keyboard stopped working.  the usb connections on the keyboard still work but the letter buttons do not do anything anymore.  is the keyboard fried or is this fixable?

I assume you tried another USB port and tried the KB on another computer. A pc will suffice for testing purposes.

I have this problem. When I connect my new Apple usb keyboard directly to the laptop it does work. Is there any way to solve this problem?

I just did the latest update and my Apple USB keyboard stopped working. The keyboard works fine with other computers and other keyboards work with my Macbook.
The keyboard ships with a three foot extension cable. I plugged the keyboard into the Macbook with this cable and now it's working fine. I think it has something to do with the USB port being 3.0. A USB hub may also solve the issue.

I have a MacBook Pro Retina display: 15.4-inch late 2015 with OS X Mavericks install, only on second week.
Insight works on FaceTime, Skype, but yahoo program does not show insight cam in dropped down.
Now when I got my new MacBook Pro, I down loaded all new Skype (worked tested), FaceTime (Worked Tested), Yahoo (not worked)
    Fix:
With the new Maverick you have to use there messager program Version 8.0 (4218). Once I add my yahoo account video works again.
It also supported AOL, AIM, Google Talk, Jabber.

Apple Mail Search and Spotlight do not work for locating email messages after upgrading to Lion 10.8.3 on my 27" iMac.
When searching in Apple Mail, sometimes a get a few results (with many missing), and sometimes no results at all.
I had absolutely no problems before with Snow Loepard.
I have reindexed mail and my startup drive. I have followed discussions regarding this matter and tried everything - a waste of time.
This is VERY serious for me - I have many thousands of messages that I archive and need to reference for work and clients, and now I cannot find them.

I found out that I needed a $100 mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter to make my $30" cinema display work with my macbook pro

When I found out that solved the problem, I took it back because that was too expensive for a stupid adapter, and it still didn't work perfectly.

  • USB Keyboard not working after running Monolingual

Okay, I'm not a Mac person and should have known that I was going to mess up my mother's iMac, but here it is -
In an attempt to improve the mac's performance I performed all of the actions described in the following article: 11 Ways to Optimize your Mac's Performance     ( http://lowendmac.com/eubanks/07/0312.html ). Basically, I cleaned up files and 'other' system preferences. Things seemed to be fine and the computer did run much better. However, after running Monolingual and deleting what I understood to be 'unnecessary' PowerPC files the standard USB keyboard is no longer working.
I've tried to search for various remedies, but have come to a dead end. So I'm left with reinstalling the Snow Leopard OS (I think it is 10.6.8?) BUT I can't because it is asking to input the account password (which I know) to make the change and I can't figure how to do that when the keyboard not working.
    Any help would be great!
    *feeling like a bone head*

How are you trying to reinstall Snow Leopard? If you're booting from the Snow Leopard or iMac Install DVD that came with the system then that should eliminate any of the issues you may or may not have caused when you deleted did the clean up work on your mom's system.
    I suggest trying the following:
    0) Verify that the caps lock key is off. It can make inputting passwords difficult if you don't realize it is ON.
    1) Reset the PRAM by restarting the system then quickly press the command-option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears. Wait until you hear the computer restarts two times as indicated by the startup chime. For more info refer to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379.
    2) If the issue persists after the PRAM reset then boot from the Snow Leopard or iMac Install DVD, whichever you have. Once you see the menu asking you to choose a language try using the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the language choice selection. If the arrow keys are working at this point it indicates your keyboard is at least partially functional. Go ahead and select the language then proceed to step 3.
    3) Once the next screen appears move the cursor up to the menu bar area and pull down the Utilities menu. Select the 'Terminal' application. Once the Terminal application launches try typing the various keys on the keyboard and check to see if the correct characters are displayed. Please let us know if you detect any errors. If there are no errors then you should be able to quit the Terminal application and proceed with reintstalling the OS.

  • Apple Full-Sized USB Keyboard not working

I have this very specific problem...
I have a late 2012 27" iMac, to which I have connected a full-sized Apple USB Keyboard and an apple wired mouse plugged into one of the keyboard's USB ports.
Just now, I upgraded the RAM (from 8 GB to 32 GB).  Upon re-booting, neither the mouse nor keyboard worked.  I ended up plugging in the wired keyboard into a USB hub I had attached and voila, the mouse and keyboard worked.  I rebooted with the keyboard plugged into the hub, and everything worked.  I then turned off the Mac, put the keyboard USB into the iMac again to see if this would work and it did not.  None of the four USB outlets will let my keyboard work.   THe mouse works when plugged into the iMac directly, or the USB hub, but the keyboard will ONLY work when plugged into the USB hub.  I tested all four USB ports in the iMac and they all work.
I have a mac mini I use as a HTPC, and the keyboard works great on that computer.
The only combination that does not work is the wired Apple keyboard when plugged directly into the iMac.
    HELP!!

I have exactly the same issue -- mouse works when plugged into the mac, usb full size mac keyboard ONLY works when plugged into my external hub. The hub doesn't have its own power supply.
Running OS X 10.8.5 12F45 on 2.5 GHz i5 with 8GB 1600 RAM. No system or software changes recently. The keyboard just randomly stopped working this morning. Also, the keyboard works fine plugged into any of the usb ports on another macbook pro.
I rebooted the system and followed the steps here https://discussions.apple.com/message/24100699#24100699, including going into About This Mac -> System Report. In the system report, if the keyboard is plugged directly into the macbook pro, the keyboard is simply not shown in the USB Device Tree. However, the moment I plug it into the hub and rebuild the report, I can see Keyboard Hub -> Apple Keyboard in the USB Device Tree. I have tried combinations of hub, mouse, and keyboard, including trying the keyboard with other devices unplugged.
Help? Is this a known mac bug? Thanks

  • USB keyboard not working on startup

I have recently upgraded to a 2011 Mini Server running M. Lion. It has all worked perfectly up unitl the last few days when the keyboard (a generic non-Apple Windows one) is suddenly not working when the machine starts up. It is recognised in System Information as 'USB Multimedia Keyboard' but it says something about it not being 'registered', I think. Sorry I can't remember the exact message. I have to unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in, then it works fine again. It never stops working mid-session or after the computer wakes from sleep. I have a Logitech mouse, a Belkin hub and an M-Audio keyboard controller plugged into the other ports. The point is it has been recognised fine up til now so I wonder what has happened meanwhile and how I can fix it? It's no big deal having to unplug it and plug it back in but it is a bit of a pain. Does anyone have any idea what to do about this? Thanks.

I seem to have a similar problem. I have the Apple wireless mouse but a corded Apple extended USB keyboard connected to a USB (AC powered) hub. Upon startup, I usually log on to the iMac (running OS 10.8). However, lately when I boot up, there is a question mark next to the login field on the screen. I can move the mouse, but there is no response from the keyboard. All indicator lights on the hub are green, indicating there is a connection between the iMac and the USB devices. I eventually have to remove the power plug from the hub then insert it again to reset the connection, which fixes it. I have no problems after that.
I have reset the PRAM several times, but this doesn't fix it. The problem exists even if no other devices are connected to the hub.
Question: Is this a hub issue, or an issue with a port on the iMac? Thanks!

  • T430 USB keyboard not working for HD password during boot

    Ladies and Gentleman,
    I have a large problem.
    I use a T430 with a port replicator.
I need to set a Boot password and a HD Password.
When I boot the T430 in the port Replicator, the usb keyboard is not recognized and I had to open the T430 to enter the password.
I tried different Bios settings, nothing helped.
It seems to me that the keyboard drivers are not loaded at that time.
Before I had a W500 and a port replicator. Worked without problems.
    Any help is welcome.
    Ralf

Sorry. On my T430s, the USB3 port on the left starts faster than the always-on port on the back, so I hook a port replicator to that port. Is this the Lenovo port replicator or aftermarket? (I assume you are talking about a USB port replicator and not a docking station) Is the port replicator powered by an external power supply? I always plug in the power supply to the port replicator before I start the laptop.

  • USB Keyboard Not Working At Login Screen

After waking my brand new Mac Pro (OS X 10.7.4) from sleep, my usb keyboard sometimes becomes unresponsive. So, at the login, I am unable to type my password in order to restore my session.
Is there a reason for usb devices to not work after waking the mac up? I tried all of the usb ports on the mac, as well as all the ports on both monitors. Thankfully, I have a bluetooth mouse and that works. But no idea why the usb devices stop working all together...
My software is completely up to date. And since this computer is less than a month out of the box, I'm puzzled as to why there would be any issues with it. Please let me know if there is a setting that affects this and what I need to do to fix it.
    Thanks!

Maybe it needs to be plugged into the Mac before it goes to sleep...
Because when it wasn't letting me type anything I tried every USB port on the Mac itself, as well as the monitors, and even using an extender. Nothing worked.
However, I did eventually leave the keyboard plugged into the Mac and it woke up without a problem this morning. So, I'm hoping your solution did the trick!
    Thanks

  • After upgrade USB Keyboard not working to unlock cryptdev-ed HDD

    Hi,
Is there any sane reason, why my USB keyboard does not work after upgrading right now to enter the keyphrase to unlock my hdd? (x86_64, kernel 2.6.28-1.1, luks encrypted hdd that contains an lvm2 volume) The keyboard works fine in grub, short time before I have to enter the password, it goes black (numblock LED turns off). Luckily I have an USB-to-PS/2 converter, so I just plugged it in there, the system recognizes this and I'm able to enter the password. Afterwards, pluggin the keyboard back into its USB port, it works again.
Has anyone encountered the same strange behaviour? Or has anyone a solution for this problem?
    best regards

Even worse, my LUKS key is stored on a USB-Stick. After upgrading, my USB-Stick was not recognized and so the LUKS key could not be read. Luckily (very luckily) I had defined a plain text keyphrase for LUKS slot 2 and so I was able to enter this via the PS2 keyboard. Anyone who has not provided this "backdoor" for themselves faces a difficult task.
A bug report exists concerning this problem: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12867

  • Usb keyboard not working in windows xp pro sp2 , drivers not installing rig

I just got this mac book pro. Haven't owned a mac sense LC II.
I got a stand for the notebook at www.raindesigninc.com the mstand and I got the $50 aluminum usb keyboard apple sells.
I installed windows xp on a 50 gb partition, put the bootcamp in got all the drivers installed.
Then I got to the office today plugged in my apple keyboard and it was not recognized. I didn't have the bootcamp cds with me at the office.
Are the drivers for the aluminum apple usb keyboard on the bootcamp cd?
I've done some searching on google, and the only solution that i've read is downloading a new version of bootcamp then using a program called transmack to pull the driver out of the bootcamp image file. I hope there is a simpler soution that won't take up so much time.
So do I need to put bootdisk in again to get the drivers for this usb keyboard? Or how can I get this to work as it is now the usb keyboard doesn't work. I had to take the laptop off of the mstand and use its own keypad.

found out i just needed to put in the cd that came with the mac book pro
