USB live 24bit popping & quits he

I installed the USB SB li've 24-bit External on my son?s m-45-s69 Toshiba laptop. We have it hooked up to Logitech x-530 5. speaker system. We are having a problem with the sound card making a popping noise and them shortly later the music just quits, and the power light on the sound card goes off. Now if we re-click on a different song then it will start playing again but with popping coming from the speakers, and some times it shuts off again.
I read through some of the other posts about popping noise but none really helped me.
The only up-grade we have done to the computer is more memory, we now have Gig, it came with 52M.
Can someone point me into the right direction on what to check? I?m sure it'ss some kind of configuration, or conflict problem. His computer shows no conflicts in the device properties menu.
Thanks
Dave

Your friend is running arch and you say it works fine, you are running ubuntu and it doesn't work, looks a lot like it is a problem with ubuntu.
These forums are meant to provide support for arch only, this is not a general linux support forum, that is a rule. Also most users here have no experience with ubuntu so they can't help. I suspect this thread might get closed as soon as a moderator spots it, just like it happened in the past to other threads asking for support regarding other distributions.

  • Differences between live 24bit and audigy se?

    hi!
anyone knows whats the exact differences between the creative soundblaster live 24bit (found in the k8n diamond and p4n diamond) and creative soundblaster audigy se (found in k8n diamond plus)? the chipsets seems to be identical among each other. the specs are also identical.
    pls advise.

Why my device control on my K8N Diamond plus did not have the decoder tab?
Maybe that's why I can't get 5.1 sound from my digital speaker...

Looks like you don't have the right software drivers installed.   Instead of the nVIDIA Audio drivers, you should be installing the Creative Labs drivers from the enclosed driver CD-ROM, the separate one from the MSI disk.   Next go to Creatives site and run all the updates from their Auto-update service.
You should be able to select the tab shown above as I also see it.   Each selection also works for me so I can say that the Dolby decoding does work.

  • USB Live! Sound Blaster 24bit with poppi

Hi. A month or two ago I purchased my usb connected Li've! Sound Blaster 24bit from CompUSA. It has worked fine with my logitech 5. speakers. Yesterday, I bought a 60gig Maxtor harddri've from compusa, also USB. Since I installed that, my sound has been having loud pop sounds once in a while, especially when data is being transfered to the harddri've. I have a 400watt powersuply, amd athlon single core processor, gig ram, onboard harddri've, a geforce nvida 7800gt graphics card. The video card has a printed requirement of 350watts. The harddri've has its own powercord, and the usb that connects it to my PC, and so do the logitech speakers I have both the sound blaster and the harddri've plugged into the rear of my PC.
The poping sound happens about twice, then the sound blaster box makes a click sound and turns off. When I unplug, then plug it back in or press the mute button on it, it comes back on, but I have to restart whatever application that was playing the sound because it no longer works. For instance, if I'm listening to music on iTunes, and the card turns off, I have to close iTunes and reopen it or no sound will come from that application, same goes for media players, web based sound i.e. youtube. When the card turns off, the green and blue light on the front turn off, while I can still see a red glow from the 'optical output' slot.
The only change I made with my PC is plugging in the harddri've. The popping/shutting off of the card happens both when I play sound thats stored on the external dri've, and stuff like my iTunes which is on my internal. The model number of my card is 580490 and the box had a sticker that said '5. home theater audio for your PC' plus another sticker that said '64 bit, Windows XP Pro x64'. I downloaded the drivers for this, but when I tried to apply them, it said they didn't need to be updated. I don't know how to uninstall them.
    Thanks, asukar

    AmusedToDeath,
It's not referring to the cable. That information is referring to your computer USB controller. If your computer USB controller is only USB . then you will face the limitation.

  • Help please no luck recording vinyl thru line-in port on External USB Soundblaster Live 24bit

Help please! I have connected LP turntable (I am assured which has preamp inbuilt) to line-in port on S/Blaster external using lead inbuilt from?turntable with white/red RCA plugs with a line -in plug converter. Then connected external soundcard?to the notebook USB-USB as per manual. I have tried Creative's Smart Recorder but it shows no sound coming through on Analysis (same with Audiograbber software too). Sound card diagnostics show sound card OK and I can plug in headphones and get output. I am thinking hardware connection issue as I connected direct from turntable to microphone input &?got loud mike low quality recording but I ustand this is not recommended as can blow sound card (and poor receording anyway)? Is there another device I can easily plug into line in to test - or any other ideas gratefully received.

Have you tried by installing www.asio4all.com drivers and then by using some?ASIO capable recording software as like Kristal, VSTHost, Reaper, etc (there are many others available)?jutapa

  • SB Live 24Bit External: Reproducible System Freeze after installing Windows Upda

I have a SB Li've! 24Bit External and am quite content with it. However, my Windows Update has recently installed the following updates:
    - Cumulati've Security Update for IE, KB9282
    - Cumulati've Security update for OE, KB9567
    - Tool for Spyware Removal, KB890830
    - Security Update for Windows XP, KB90853
    - Security Update for Windows XP, KB9562
I suspect one of the last two ones to be at fault. Afterwards, my computer froze completely on the Windows startup screen whenever the SB came up. I could verify that it was the SB by removing the USB cable (which solved the issue) and plugging in again later to the running system (which brough the freeze again).
A was able to get a running system again by using the System Recovery, but I'd *really* like to install those updates (. to be a little more safe and 2. because the Windows Update nagging me about those updates is really annoying).

  • Unable to create working USB live medium

I seem to have a quite common problem, at least I found a few very similar topics on the forum. However, I didn't find any that offered a solution I could use.
My secondary harddisk with arch broke so I replaced it. Now I want to reinstall arch but before I started I wanted to update my live USB device, from where I installed arch the first time. I again used Live Linux USB Creator but I'm getting the following message when booting from the USB:
    SYSLINUX 4.06 EDD 2012-10-23 Copyright (C) 1994-2012 H. Peter Anvin et al
Unknown keyword in configuration file: PATH
    boot/syslinux/whichsys.c32: not a COM32R image
    boot:
Pressing tab shows the options "select pxe sys" but each gets me the message that the kernel image couldn't be found.
I checked the USB Flash Installation entry on the wiki and tried different methods to create the bootable device. All with the same result so I assume the problem is with the new distribution. I saw a few workarounds but none that I could try on Windows (which is all I can successfully boot at the moment unfortounately).
    Thanks in advance

  • Onboard SoundBlaster Live 24bit probl

I just recently got a MSI nforce 4 motherbaord (platinum SLI) with onboard Li've 24bit. It works fine for low quality sound, but if i try and utilise it fully in games, like Halo, then it lags and only plays parts of the sound. I was wondering if it could be that the hardware it not fully accelerated but i'm unsure where to find that option.
I'm running XP with the latest drivers. Please help.
    Cheers, Mcphie

i guess creatives products are just cack then! all i have read on these forums is how people from a variety of different soundcards, experience this pop and crackle noise. but yet, no proper drivers fix for most! and the fix they suggest rarely seem to work. certainly not for me!
quite frankly, im rather anoyed that creative are being allowed to get away with this. i for one will NOT be buying anything in your range again.

  • Archlinux + udev + XOrg 1.5 = Godsend live USB || live CD

Wow. I have finally seen the power of udev autodection and X Input

I have been booting my xorg.conf-less USB hard disk

without the need to do any configuration.
And since i install all the wireless modules and firmware etc ipw2*,iwl*,rt*
on my USB hard disk which has been my Arch testing hard disk
    has become a live USB!!
Gone are the days of modprobing modules and reconfiguring X.
For those who are complaining about the new XOrg update, you should
try deleting xorg.conf and see its power.:D
And for PCs which don't support booting from USB hard disk, larch comes
to the rescue. With larch, I can have similar setup to my USB hard disk. eg:
avast antivirus, opera, kdemod, krusader, akregator.
This is so great unlike some distro which can only create a livecd from the current
    bootup root partition.
Just fyi, I don't feel comfortable surfing the net on a Windows PC. I will normally
insert a linux liveCD on such PCs.
I am so glad that I found Archlinux. It is the right distro for me.

  • External Usb Audio Card Popping and Cracking sound with Satellite L500

    Greetings,
My name is Boyan and I am from Bulgaria and about an year ago I've bought a satellite laptop from the l500 series ( i can not state which exactly is the model at the moment because my computer is not currently with me and on my user manual the only thing which is stated is that it is for L500/L505/ L500D / L505D . But by memory I think it was the Satellite L500D-ST5506 which is currently not at my dispossal because I gave it for repair for the same problem which I will state down below)
The problem with my laptop is that when I plug a Usb Audio card in my laptop I have a cracking sound when live sound is played trough the speakers/headphones from the external card. I've tried numerous audio cards and speakers/headpohnes which work perfectly fine with other computer, including laptops but the same problem keeps on showing up in the headphones/speakers of my laptop when I am using an external audio card to connect them to the laptop.
The problem is prominent only when the sound signal passes trough an external audio card and it is very annyoing since I use my laptop to create music and i've bought an expenssive audio card and speakers which can not be used with the laptop. I've tried 3 models of audio cards:
    M-Audio Fast Track Pro
    Behringer uca 222
and a simple external 3d sound usb audio card and the problem still appears.
At first I thought that the problem should be software and I should install new drivers although windows 7 automaticaly recognizes and intalls the drivers for the devices and I have sound in them (but with cracks and popps) so i tried using the official drivers sold to me with the audio cards but with no luck: The problem was still there. I tried finding new drivers of the audio cards on the official distributors websited and i've downloaded them but the problem was still there. Then i tried to delete every audio driver on my computer and just use the external audio card for sound but this dint help eighter. I've updated my drivers for my build-in audio card as well but again - no luck.
After that.the frist thing I did when (2 weeks after i bought the laptop) was to contact the store from which i bought my audio card and they stated that the problem may be eighter latency or high voltage from the laptop so they adviced me to try to lower the latency from the settings or to try and see if the problem remains if my laptop is only running on battery. I've tried both things and they didn't help. The audio cards worked without a problem on every other computer I've tried them on except mine. So they said to me that the problem couldnt possibly be from the audio cards .
What I did next was I gave my laptop to the official distributor of toshiba in my country so they can fix my problem. What they said to me was that the problem is caused from the version of windows which was pre-installed on my laptop and that it wasnt compitable with the audio cards (which was bizzar sounding because I've tried them on the same windows and they've worked, just on other computers). So I got back my laptop and changed my operating sistem from Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 32bit and on all of those versions the problem was there: whenever I activate a Usb Audio Card and audio signal passes trough it I heard cracks and popps. I even tried isntalling Windows XP but the laptop wants spesific SATA drivers for the installation of Windows XP which although i did find - they didnt help me install XP and I didn't want to go in to the BIOS of the computer to try to put a new one and so on because I am not so sure about that and I could lose my warranty so I said to the official repair store for Toshiba in my town to put XP on my computer to fix the problem but they can't because they are not liscened to operate with software which doesn't have a recipt for its purchase ( which i didnt because i bought my windows xp long ago and i've lost the recipt)
I gave it for repair for the second time telling them that the change of my operating system did not solve my problem and what they did was they changed the whole motherboard on my computer, stating that the build in realtek audio device on my computer is not good enough to support an usb audio card or it maybe broken and they have to change the whole motherboard because the build in card is glued to it, so they did that but my problem wasn't solved. They told me that although I am using and external usb audio card the signal still passes trough my internal one and I have to disable it so i tried disabling it trough the control panel but this did not solve the problem and i do not have an option from BIOS to disable my build-in audio card. Another thing which I thought maybe causing the problem is that the two audio cards aren't working on the same bit rate and Hertz so I set both cards to 16 bit 48000hz DVD Quality (Also tried other options on the 3 cards i have) but...the same thing happend.
They told me that this is just my luck and that the build in audio card doesn't support this external audio cards and I should had been more careful when choosing my laptop at first.
I couldn't accept this awnser for several reasons:
    1) This audio cards work on lower version of windows and are supported by much older models of Realtek and much older computers (one of them was bought 2000!!!!! and my laptop is from 2010!!)
    2) The guys who were fixing the problem apperantley didn't go in so deep in to my problem because they didn't know what actually the problem was they just knew that there is a problem with the audio card and the computer interacting with eachother, they didnt know that there is cracking during live play from the external audio card.
    3) I can not accept the fact that Toshiba is manufacturing models with chipset audio cards which can not support a simple external Usb Audio Card. This is totally unacceptable for me and I truly hope this is not the case!
4)They didn't try my audiocards on an other laptop from the same series stating that they do not have one at their dispossal at the moment so I will go tomorrow to a local store and try the audio cards by my self on the same computer in the store.
What I did now was I gave back my laptop for repair asking for a statement of the problem in wrtting with all details of the problem so I can go to court or ask for a new laptop but I will be charged with some money because according to them there is no problem in the laptop and the problem is that my external audio cards arent compitable with the build in internal chipset audio card. If I give my laptop for repair and there is no hardware problem I will have to pay some money. I will do this but I am now mad, since this will not solve my problem and I am loosing time and money.
What I am asking here is, if you can not help me solve my problem and advice me what to do to fix it, please provide me the details of the chipset build in audiocard on my motherboard, so i can investigate if it is compitable with my external audio cards and contact the audio card dealers to ask them for their opinion. Or if you can tell me with what it is compitable with and with what not, it would be great. I personally think that this laptop should have no problems at all with running a simple external usb audio card but I am asking you, if you know something more about that.
If the problem is from the build in chipset then Toshiba is manufacturing (or at least selling) audiocards which aren't at a normal standart but sadly I cant do nothing about it except complain to Toshiba and never deal whith such productgs anymore. In the other case if this is not true, then my laptop has a problem which is different and I will have to go to court with the repair mans for not fixing my laptop or not giving a new one when I have warranty which will not be Toshiba's fault and It will in a way solve my problem.
I hope you understand how Important this is for me and I hope I resolve the problem as soon as possible.
    P.S
I would like to state that I am well aware of the grammar mistakes I have made in the text below and I would like to ask for your apologies as I am not a native English language speaker.

hi i just like to say i had a similar fault though i would be surprised if it causing yours, but you never know,my fault was my laptop lid, [9 months old] it contains the mic ,and when the lid was in a certain angle crackles could be heard worse when i had my external sound card in, it was a faulty membrane [ lid to body] easily missed by engineer because it was the same angle all the time it happened, good luck, PS you English is very good

  • Sound Blaster Live 24bit External - No B

I am hoping that someone can help me here. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and have my PC setup purely as a Media Center machine. It has an onboard Intel 5. Sound Card that was producing average sound, but works 00%?I have since installed my Li've 24bit External, I first ran the CD and then realised that it was not Vista software so I downloaded the updated drivers and software. First I removed the old software and then installed the newer version. Now everything seems to work and when I test all the speakers via the?drivers / control panel?they all work - including the sub. When playing anything via Media Center or Media player, I get no bass what so ever. - I have even tried 5. DTS DVDs?I have subsequently plugged the speakers back into the onboard card and the sub works. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will work. It'll wind up setting your USB ports to 6 bit by default, because it's going to be taking alot out of them, but it'll give you some beefy surround sound none the less. On the down side of this external card though, it's giving me a ton of **bleep** about ventrilo and fra

  • Logic live outputs pops intermittently?

Using Logic Pro in a live setting in church concerts, I'm getting random pops in my main FOH output, and I cannot pinpoint the reason, unless I am just taxing my laptop's capacity. Anyone else with experience on a G4 over-taxing the CPU and getting pops or clicks?
    Here's the problem:
Maybe half a dozen times during the 2 hour concert, I will hear a minor pop in the FOH output, usually during music. Sometimes it happens just after I slightly change the EQ on the main output, sometimes it happens when I haven't touched the computer for 30 seconds or so. It appears to be almost random.
    Here's my setup:
Using Logic with iBook G4 (1GB RAM) and MOTU Ultralite Firewire audio mixer doing live, single mic gospel concerts. Using iTunes to playback .aif stereo tracks, and using Shure wireless mic and wireless IEM monitors. Pretty simple setup, 1 mic, 1 stereo feed from iTunes (going out to MOTU Output 7-8, then analog patch cords to MOTU Input 7-8). Two stereo outputs, FOH and IEM. Using Aux objects as inputs, buses to get to SpaceDesigner reverb and IEM output mix. Doing some EQing on mic, IEM and FOH output, plus compression on mic. Using 128 cache to keep latency unnoticeable.
Using the System Performance window, it is using just over 1/2 of the CPU capacity. If I turn Space Designer off, I am using an 1/8 of the CPU. I am not recording, nor moving the timeline at all. I use iTunes instead of laying the tracks end to end in the Arrange window so that I can freely choose between over 50 songs at the whim of the singer. And, it sounds great, and easier to carry than the 01V I was flying with.
Of course, I have no other apps running other than iTunes and Logic Pro and Stickies. But, the CPU capacity monitor being over 1/2 makes me nervous.
Based on the answers to this query, I am considering getting a MacBook Pro for the increased CPU, as well as bigger screen. But, if it doesn't solve the pops, I will have spent $3,000 for naught.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

SD has to process a lot of info and traditionally, laptops
don't have as efficient a bus system. If not using Space Designer clears up your problem then you pretty much know that the ibook's bus system just can't handle it.
But first!! try another player than ITunes. ITunes is not the most efficient file player around.
Also, if you do have to use another reverb, try using a couple of Logic's verbs, say a Platinum and a Gold. Sometimes using two lesser quality reverbs at lower settings can produce wonderful results.

<FONT color=#0066ff>When i get onto the game or hop into my Voice Server, everytime i push my "Talk" button for my microphone they hear everything my comptuer is doing, wether it be from my AIM sounds, or music in the background......and thats with my headset pluged into my headphone port on my speakers,.....acually well it does it either way , pluged into the headhphone port or unpluged, i thoguht it might have had something to do with my speakers being too loud, and just my microphone was picking up background feedbakc, but NOPE!!!!
    <FONT color=#0066ff>
<FONT color=#0066ff>The "What You Hear" setting in my "Creative Surround Mixer" seems to be allowing my freinds on the other end to hear every little noise my comptuer makes, If...i turn it all the way down....thinking maybe they wont hear it........ THEY NOW CANT HEAR ME TALK!!!!!.....there is no way around it.....or is there?
