Usb malfunction?

so when i connect the ipod through usb to the laptop, it does not read my "ipod". Therefore i am not able to add or remove songs from the ipod. Yet, with the ipod schuffle, it reads it...
would it be the usb cable for the ipod mini, causing the problem? The thing is, is that it worked less than 24 hrs ago when i was last on my laptop. I've reinstalled itunes, restarted the computer several times... still nothing
any solutions...?

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer. Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

  • Blue Screen of Death and USB malfunctions on HP Envy running Windows 7

    Hello.
I have an HP Envy 14 notebook PC. It's running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, version 6.1.7601. When I run it, I eventually starts getting an error message from the right of the desktop toolbar telling me that a USB device I plugged in is malfunctioning and did not get installed correctly. This is happening while my USB ports are empty.
As this is happening, the computer also starts playing background static that you can hear over headphones as well. This sound goes away once you mute the machine. After plugging the computer into a monitor to play sound through its speakers, there is also a curious effect; after I remove all the cords and plug in earphones, I hear amplified booming sounds from small movements, rather than what is meant to be playing. This latter effect goes away once I restart the computer,
Eventually, the computer displays a blue screen and crashes. The blue screen asks me to disable BIOS memory options such as caching and shadowing. Once the machine restarts, it informs gives me the following report:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:    BlueScreen
      OS Version:    6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

It also gives me the option to check for solutions. Doing so closes the screen and gives no further information. Please advise as to how to address these issues.

I have the same issue you have had. This happend to my old hp, I thought it was a fluke so when I bought my new hp envy a year ago I was dumbfounded to see that its happening all over again. This time my hp envy 14 is doing the same thing yours did with the same code and all. Can you please tell me what you did to fix this or were you even able to fix it at all?

  • Problem connecting ipod-Error says USB malfunct & winXP does not recognize

Please can someone help a non-tech savy new ipod user. I have loaded the latest itunes, but not only does itunes not see my ipod, I get the following windows error when I plug it into the USB port. "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". When I click on this, it says no drivers are loaded for this device. I have followed the 5Rs including the windows updates with no luck. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Already done that. The USB port is 2.0 and is on the back of my computer and i am not using any dock or external hubs. The cable i am using is the one that came with my ipod when i bought it.
I connected the cable to ALL the USB ports just in case the one i was using was not working properly but the error continued. I also check that the USB ports are not protected (meaning the USB port is blocked and recognizes the ipod as a virus). I also deactivated the firewall just in case it was blocking itunes or the apple mobile device support.
I've done everything and i am freaking out!! Please help meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! thanks anyway lllaass

  • HP Deskjet F2480 - USB Malfunction?

    Hello!
I have just set up a HP Deskjet F2480 printer on my Mac due to my other PC breaking. When I went to add the printer it said 'Kind: USB Malfuntion' (image). However, I continued to add it as a printer and try and print a document. Whenever I attempt to print it just gets stuck on 'Ready to print' (image).
    I am using Mavericks 10.9.4 and have a late 2012 21.5" iMac.
    Thanks in advance!

Actually, it says "Multifunction", not "Malfunction".  That is correct, it is a multifunction printer.
    Let's reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and then next to the "Use" pulldown, select the printer model (not AirPrint). Wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • USB Malfunction N70

    Using:
    Windows XP
    PC Suite 6
    USB Cable (Nokia)
    Hello
I have installed the Nokia PC Suite 6. However, when using the Get Connected Wizard no phone is recognised when connected to USB cable. Moreover, occasionally when I connect the USB cable with the N70 attached a speech bubble reads - when detecting new hardware - that the USB connection has malfunctioned. Confused. Any ideas on how to resolve this and establish a PC/Phone via USB cable connection would be most welcome
    HJ

Go to Windows device manager and see if the phone+cable when connected are visible there. If unknown USB device or unknown device with ?-mark appeares, highlight and uninstall it with mouse right click. Disconnect phone.Boot PC. Start PC again, try again.

  • SOLVED - USB malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it

I have been using my IPAD2 for months (LOVE IT). Today, when I plug it into the same WIndows 7 Laptop I have been using for months, An error message says
    USB Device Not Recognized.
I Powered off & On the Ipad, no help
I plugged it into a Windows XP computer that I have used before, same message.
It is NOT and Windows 7 Problem (because same message on XP)
Device Manager is probably not the answer as it fails on 2 machines to which it has been previously connected.
It has nothing to do with ITunes (error comes up with or without Itunes Loaded)
I am very reluctant to do a full reset on the Ipad because if I can't get windows to recognize it, then I cant use my Ipad at all (HORRORS!)
    Any suggestions?
    Update: SOLVED.
I was plugging in the Ipad through the Ipad Stand. I took the Ipad Stand out of the equasion an it worked fine!

  • Iphone usb malfunction

I have 5 iphones in my house and about 5 usb cables. One of my iphones doesn't seem to enjoy charging or connecting to the computer. When i connect it to the wall it would STILL run out of batter until it gets to the screen that shows a large battery with the charging symbol. After awhile it leaves this screen to get to the dashboard where the apps are. When it gets to the dashboard it stops charging until it repeats back to the Battery screen. When connecting my iphone to my computer it would say iphone malfunctined. I already tried to reinstall itunes and apple mobile by uninstalling it first then reinstalling but the problems continue. Can somebody how me solve my problem?

  • N97 usb malfunction after servibe.

my usb port broke of lately i sent to service. Nw i gt it ok. It charges a bit fine in a position. Bt if i connect usb. It shows charging and disconected. And my ui gets hangs.
And my memory card not reading. And green and red key light not coming.
What could be the pro. Did he overburnt ny ic.
I did hardreset too. How to get it ready myself.

You should send it back to the service centre and get that to sort it out. It sounds more hardware then software so a reset may not help. In any case, if you try anything yourself, they may blame you instead.

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I see that you're unable to print, scan or fax via Mac using your HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to help.  Have you tried plugging the printer into a different usb port on your Mac? If not, try all available usb ports to see if you get a different result. If you haven't been using the usb connection disregard this tip.  Try the following steps in sequence:   Uninstall your printer - click here for instructions.  Repair disk permissions on your Mac - click here for instructions.  Once you've finished running the above-noted utility, restart your computer. Lastly, click here to reinstall your printer. Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Have a great day!

  • USB malfunction on P10-304

I have P10-304, well it was workin fine till a couple of days back when while printing, the printer showed an communication error msg. thought i tried to switch it on n off it didn't work, i tried to unistall n then reinstall the printer but on installing the computer does not recognize the printer, though the printer can be installed on other comp. i tried an alternative printer but it too won't be recognised, the device manager reveals the usb ports are ok, but still the comp doesn't recognise new hardware i try to install via the usb port.
    whats wrong guys

    Hi
I guess you tried defferent USB ports? I mean connect the printer to the other port/s you might have on the PC?
    Same problem?
If yes, then please try something more simple like a USB mouse or keyboard. Still same problem? If yes, then it smells of a hardware problem but to be sure recover the PC. !!!Please note!!!: all data will then be lost!!
If No to closest above question, is Your printer also drawing power from USB? Maybe you should try using a AC Adaptor-driven HUB between?
If No to the topmost question, then try a different USB port and then check the other tips in my text above.
    Good luck
    Tom

  • Malfunctioning iPod, not being recognized by the computer. Why?

Ok, yesterday I wanted to update my iPod so I plugged it in and I got an error message about my USB malfunctioning and then my ipod was frozen on "do not disconnect". I unfroze it and tried again. Same thing. Then I changed ports and same problem. I kept unfreezing and got rid of the songs I added thinking they might be messing it up. I plugged it in and I thought it was fine. When I checked it the next day when I wanted to use it all my songs were gone. I plugged it back in, restored the iPod settings and it still doesn't recognize it. Its telling me "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod '__ iPod'. Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences to restore settings it the factory settings." It won't let me restore, though because of an unknown error. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

  • Device is not Recognised/Malfunctioned

Same problem as a few people apparently. Purchased Vista 32-Bit today, plugged the iPhone in and it's refusing to recognise the software and simply says the "USB Device has malfunctioned". I've re-installed iTunes, Re-installed iTunes with UAC turned off, I've installed older versions of iTunes and tried to find new drivers (Simply says they are up to date).
Any help is really appreciated, going crazy here.

    Sorry for the double post.
I tried connecting my iPhone to the wallsocket via the white power-plug thing, and even that is not working. I also connected it to another PC (No monitor etc. just the base unit) and there was no connection.
Even though when I plug it into this PC with Vista it says the Device is not recognised or USB Malfunctioned. Is it an issue with the iPhone itself or possibly with the power cable?

  • My iphone is stuck in recovery mode and itunes will not recognize my phone. I've tried pretty much every trick i can and i still do not know what to do. Someone please help me

My iphone is stuck in recovery mode and itunes will not recognize my phone. I've tried pretty much every trick i can and i still do not know what to do. Someone please help me

I've done all of these, even trying a different USB port, and still, nothing. This is really confusing. Windows 8.1 said something to do with USB malfunction or something and nothing works. I need to restore my iPhone quickly and nothing has happened. My cable is not genuine Apple product. iTunes makes the noise that it makes when I connect the device, but it doesn't say 'iPhone is in recovery mode' or even say 'iPhone' in the corner. I am really fed up and would really appreciate a response.
    Thanks,
    Nathan.

  • Sleep issue

    Hello all,
A problem that I thought was solved has reappeared. My G4 MDD with OSX 10.4.11 and 2Gb RAM, has 2 monitors installed. When I installed my recently purchased (used) Studio Display, via the ADC port, the sleep function stopped operating. All modes, pull-down menus, monitor "button," keyboard button were afflicted. I posted this problem on an other forum and tried all of the possibilities presented--none seemed to work. Then out of the blue--sleep worked, but only for awhile!! Now, again, no sleep. I've gone through all of the possibilities presented on this thread--mostly suggestions to get rid of particular preference files, or reinstalling the OS or the latest update, use of Applejack, etc. (And, by the way, the USB ports on the rear of the Studio Display do not function at all.) None of these have any affect. The only thing that gets sleep back is to unplug the Studio Display from the ADC port.
So I ask one last time, before I give up on this problem, and live with no sleep function, does anyone have any further suggestions as to what's going on here. Has anyone had a similar problem associated with a Studio Display? If the problem is in the Display (e.g. USB port malfunction) can this be repaired in practical terms?
    Thanks for your expert insights.
    Jim

    BD Aqua,
As a follow up to the Studio Display issue that I posted last week--I located a different Studio Display (that I eventually purchased) that has all of the functions operative. That is, the USB ports work and the sleep functions all work. The screen brightness is not quite as good as the other screen, but I'm working on that.
Before I bought this new display I looked into the suggestion to try to tape off the USB pins on the ADC cable/port. I easily located the pinout diagram but the pins are so recessed/small that taping them off was not very practical.
The point is that you were right that the USB malfunction was key to the sleep function not working. I sure wasted a lot of time trying all of the other possible fixes (re-installing OSX, deleting preferences, etc.).
    Thanks for your help,
    Jim
