USB mic recognized, but no audio.

I have the Rode Podcaster, it was working fine on the last preview, but now it doesn't work at all. Windows recognizes it and installs some crap driver, but it there is no audio coming in from it, and any apps that try to use it throw an error like "Error!
Could not open Capture device". Any ideas? Rode doesn't have any drivers for download as it is meant to work by default.

Does device manager show any error for the microphone?
Thanks!

Nope, I was just reading another thread, and the OP is having the exact same issue with the exact same mic.
I would post a link to the thread, but I am not allowed.

    Hi Life93,
What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • USB webcam recognized but cannot get it to work

    Hi,
May be this was posted earlier, i tried looking but could not find anything. Question is that i have a webcam which used to get detected as a PC CAMERA in a PC. When i plugged it into the MacBook, i thought it did not see it at all. Fiddled around a little and found that it showed up in the system profiler under USB devices as "Guess What" PC CAMERA. Now how to get to use it. Its a night vision cam which has a 1.3 MP resolution. All applications open the built in isight, how do i get them to work with the new cam which is recognized as PC CAMERA.

Windows 7 operating system....constantly pops up with a window that says I am not on the internet and can't register my product....obviously I am on the internet at this moment because I am posting on an online forum.   I downloaded the software four times now, after uninstalling it three times.  I downloaded XI Pro.

  • USB Mic & CS6... (heard this question a lot, but I'm dumb.)

I've got CS6... Windows 7... plenty of speed, and RAM.... And a USB Snowball mic.
I'd like to be able to monitor by vocals while I'm recording... can't quite figure out why I can't do it.
I also have a M-Audio FastTrack Pro if I need it... Not sure I do sense I'm using a USB mic.  But I thought by plugging my headphones into it, it might help with any latency issues...
nope.... can't quite figure that one out either...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Might even send you a Starbucks card.
    (in other words, I'm desperate)

I was hoping somebody else would dive in on this one (because it's not a simple answer) but in light of the silence, I guess I better speak up.
You've just found one of the drawbacks of basic USB microphones--they're a one-way device only with no facility for monitoring in a world where the computer is set up for a "sound card" which is a two way device.  (Some of the better USB mics do have built in monitoring by the way--and tend to work well.)
Anyway, you need to tell Audition to use to different devices, the mic for recording and either your M Audio or the built in sound card for playback/monitoring.  The menu to do this is under Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware.
Alas, this is where it descends into trial and error since there's a lot that can go wrong in terms of drivers between the mic and the other sound card being incompatible.  You may need to experiment with ASIO and MME and hope that both devices can work with one of these.
The other thing is that, to give Audition the right selection, you may need to go into the Windows 7 Audio menu and manually select the two proper devices, one for Recording and one for Playback.
    Good luck!

  • Device ID on Sound Input for USB Mic

I have a usb mic and I and trying to use th esound pinput configure VI.  I need to input the location for my usb mic. But going to device manager says my mic is at location 0000.0013.0000.002.000.000.000.000.000.
I obviously cannot use that in the location input on the vi. Is there a simple way to get around this?

Updated: Here is a snippet of code on the left. The default is 0, the standard mic in on a sound card. But since this mic isn't on a sound card I am not sure how to use its location. Or whether this is simply a different and better way. Any one else run into this problem?
Here is a photo of the properties under the device manager.

  • I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.

I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.  I tried different input and output settings but it didn't help.  Any help will be appreciated.

Hear your microphone or instrument as you play and record (monitoring)
You can hear, or monitor, input from an instrument or microphone in GarageBand while you play and record. When you turn on monitoring for a track, you hear the musical instrument or microphone connected to the track’s input. Monitoring lets you hear yourself play so that you can hear the part you want to record as well as the rest of the project.
You can turn on monitoring for a Real Instrument track or Electric Guitartrack from the track’s header, or in the Track Info pane. Electric Guitar tracks always show their monitoring buttons, and you can show monitoring buttons for Real Instrument tracks using a menu command. You can use monitoring with feedback protection to avoid feedback while you play.
    Hide
To turn on monitoring in the track header:
Choose Track > “Show Monitoring for Real Instrument Tracks.”Monitor buttons appear in the headers of Real Instrument tracks. On tracks with monitoring turned on, the button lights yellow.
Click the Monitor button in the header of the track you want to use.
HideTo turn on monitoring in the Track Info pane:
Double-click the header of the Real Instrument or Electric Guitar track you want to turn on monitoring for.The Track Info pane opens.
From the Monitor pop-up menu, choose one of the following:
Choose Off to turn off monitoring. You can hear your instrument only while you record.
Choose On to turn on monitoring and protect against feedback.
Choose On (no feedback protection) to turn on monitoring without feedback protection. If the input level is too high, it may cause feedback (especially if you are using a microphone and listening to your project through your computer speakers).
For an Electric Guitar track, you can view the Monitor pop-up menu by clicking Edit, and then clicking the back side of the amp. The Monitor pop-up menu appears with the input controls below the stage.
You should usually turn off monitoring when you are not playing or singing. When monitoring is turned on, your computer can pick up output from your speakers or monitors, causing unwanted feedback. Using headphones rather than speakers to listen to your projects can help eliminate feedback.
If you select your computer’s built-in microphone as the audio input, in the Audio/MIDI pane of GarageBand preferences, monitoring is turned off for all Electric Guitar tracks to avoid unwanted noise.

  • USB mic/Audio MIDI setup help.

I'm going crazy and have spent two+ hours today trying to resolve what should be a simple issue, especially since I had it working at one time...
I'm looking to set up my USB mic in Logic (MXL USB.007, if it matters). First, in going to my System Prefs > Sound, I can see that it is indeed registering sound. Simple.
So I go to Audio MIDI Setup, as I've seen on the boards. Though the mic automatically shows up as "USB Audio Codec", I'm following the process to create an aggregate device (as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1215). Since after doing this, it's not working, my newbie Logic 101 question is, then, what is the correct setup I'm looking for? My choices are USB Audio Codec In and Out, and Built-In Input, Output and Microphone (I'm assuming I should use USB Audio Codec In and Built-In Output).
After this I've gone to Logic's Audio Pref's and changed it to the Aggregate Device, but the mic produces no sound and the audio track monitor doesn't move.
I'm completely frustrated and would be very appreciative of some help. Thanks.

Okay, after much hair pulling, it had to do with my Bus setting on the track. (sigh) What do I know...I'm a singer-songwriter, not a producer.

  • USB Mic Shows up but not working

I have a USB mic to be used for dictation. When I had Tiger it would show up and when I would select it as an input device I would get "bars" on the sound control panel, but never really worked for recording. Now on Snow Leopard it shows up on my device list, but I can't actually use it as an input or output device, no sound comes out. It is a Philips SpeechMike II and I know that they don't have a mac driver. However, I didn't know if anybody has any suggestions to get it to work. It is essentially the only thing left that doesn't work on my Mac (vs a work PC). I have tried the Linein software with no success. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Does it show up in the "Input" tab of "Sound" system preference? If you move the volume slider to the right, does sound make the bars move? You can record with QuickTime Player. Select "New Audio Recording" in its "File" menu. Move the volume slider to the right in the recording window to hear the microphone.

  • USB Mic not recognized

My internal mic sounds like crap - originally it was fine - now I am getting a horrible high pitched sound when I try to record in iMovie 08.
I've adjusted the input volume - no effect.
I bought a Blue Snowflake USB mic and it's not recognized at all.
    Any suggestions?

All that has been done - I dusted off my old windows machine and the mic works on that one. The manufacturer says that it works with Mac OSX...
I'm afraid that it's possible that the Macbook can't power the mic.
