USB mic with iBook?

Can a USB mic be used to record audio with my iBook? I know that there are no audio input jacks sooo...

I used my wife's iBook to record audio for years. I bought the iVoice USB "microphone" and it recorded terrible quality. I bought the iMic and it was crystal clear. I had people ask me, when I gave them CDs recorded through the iMic, how I got it so good. I told them iMic. It is not very expensive ($40?) and it just works well!
Just so you are clear, the iMic is not the actually microphone, it is the recorder/converter to allow you to record on the iBook through the USB port. You need to plug a microphone of some sort into the iMic's input jack. I have used everything from a cell phone headset, to the output from a CD player, to a wireless lapel mic, etc.. You can get adapters to connect just about anything to the iMic (it comes with at least one set for connecting RCA jacks into the iMic). Hope this review helps!

Aggregate devices are setup in the Audio/Midi setup of OSX Utilities, (Not in Logic). It gives you a way of having for than one audio i/o device. Once you have set up your aggregated devices in Audio/Midi, when you start Logic you will need to go into Audio preferences and choose the Aggregate device.

Did you find out anything more in regard to this?
I have been using Pro Tools 8 with the MBox 2 connected to my iMac operating Leopard. It worked a treat for nearly four years.
However the hardrive has just been replaced on the iMac which now has Snowleopard. I don't want to have to update to Lion and then fork out £500 for Pro Tools 10.
I would be content to get Logic Pro 9 if I can attach the MBox 2 to it.

Using USB microphone with iBook

I have an iBook G4 and GarageBand 1.1. I recently bought a MicFlex USB microphone, but I can't make it record. I have set the system preferences and I can set the record level for the USB mic there, but GarageBand automatically uses the built-in microphone for recording. How do I change this?

Apple USB keyboard with iBook defeats keyboard inputs - software issue?

A couple days ago I bought an Apple USB (corded) keyboard for use with my iBook G4 running 10.4.10. At first the keyboard seemed just fine, but I think I may have hit some key combination with it that defeats the letter functions of both the built in keyboard and the usb keyboard. The number keys and function keys seem to work fine, but the letter keys are switched to other functions (for example, some of them input blank spaces). It also changes the way the mouse functions - I have to hold down the control key for it to "click." The lack of functionality returns as soon as I plug the keyboard back in before powering on.
The problem persists after I unplug the usb keyboard, and only a cold reboot works to restore normal function to the onboard keyboard. My impression is that this is a software switch I somehow toggled, or the usb keyboard is just bad. I've tried toggling num lock, but that doesn't appear to be the issue.

This is a hardware issue having to do with the USB connection of your keyboard. The mouse could still work as you are plugging in into a seperate USB bus. It would be wiser in my opinion to purchase another keyboard rather then investing any money in potentially fixing it.

Can I use multiple USB mics with Audition?

I have a couple Blue Yeti mics and would like to find a program that allows me to use 3 of them at the same time all recording and allowing their built in headphones to work as a monitor for all channels for a podcast setting. I don't have an advanced soundcard, I have a quad core PC with 2g ram running Vista. So does this work as is if I buy the program or what do I need to make this work if not? Any help is appreciated.

ASIO4ALL will allow you access to all 3 mics in Audition.

Kernel Panic when using Garageband with Blue Snowball USB mic

I've been getting a number of kernel panics when using USB Mics with Skype, though I have not experienced any crashes when using Garageband.
The crash report cited the AppleUSBAudio driver as the culprit. Here's the set up:

Latency in LE8 when recording with a USB Mic

I have used a Samson C01U USB Mic with Garageband on a iMac (2GB RAM) for some time. It’s works great and there is no latency. I upgraded to Logic Express and Latency is now a significant problem. I set up an aggregate device as described in the support FAQ but it doesn’t help the latency. When I first set up a recording session there is no latency on the first take. However, if I stop the recording and go back for another take there is a lot of latency. To fix it I need to exit logic and restart or change and audio setting and change it back. This makes recording very difficult. I have taken known steps to eliminate latency in logic (i.e buffer size =256). I should also note that the mic is connected directly to the iMAC (no hub). Can anyone offer a solution?

How many plugins and other tracks are running during your record session? How many plugins are in the recorded channel?
Did you try "low latency mode"
Did you try turning off software input monitoring?
Where exactly does the latency occur? Is it on the recorded track or is it the simple difference between input (your voice) and what you hear through the speakers (out 1-2 mix)?

T60 USB Mice has random disconnect, needs to be plugged back in

We have a bunch of T60's here, and we use Lenovo USB mice with them. What happens is, at any given moment, the mouse will stop working. The user just unplugs and plugs the mouse back in (Port Rep or directly into machine). This usually works, but sometimes requires the mouse to be swapped out. Then that old mouse will work somewhere else.
It's a very weird problem, and was wondering if anyone has a solution? I did some reading up and found other people with this problem, didn't find much of a solution though.

Try setting usb in bios - config - usb to always on or powered and in device manager remove the tick on usb hubs allowing windows to turn them off.

Samson USB mic issue

Hi All,
I purchased a Samson USB mic C01U which is a pretty sweet mic. I used it USB once on my Mac Book Pro but only for a quick verse or two on a friends song.
I came back to my home MacMini and tried to get it worked and after setting up aggregate devices etc... got it going but after about 5-10 minutes the audio started to chatter and clip.
I fiddled with it alot. If I unplug it, plug it back in it works for another 5-10 then chatters.
So I figure its a driver or conflict problem.
Well the other day my new MacPro arrived. I installed Logic, setup the aggregate device and I suddenly have the same problem. No bad drivers or anything (trial software etc) But still I get 5 mins then chatter and clip.
Any thoughts? Anyone using USB mics with Logic Pro?

I saw that thread albeit after I posted this. The thread address some technical issues but didn't give any opinions on the sound quality. I wouldn't expect too much from an $80.00 mic but I was wondering if it was at least a decent value.

Using USB microphone with LE

I currently use an M-Audio FastTrack Pro and an XLR condenser microphone. But setting is all up to record vocals is time consuming for my young son. I was thinking of getting a USB mic with a desk stand for him to use for recording his vocals. Anyone out there using Logic Express 8 and a USB mic? How do I set it up? Any suggestions for a good mic under $100?

Best solution: Teach your son how to use the "right" mic. Sorry, but I would not recommend the USB thing-mic. If it's "just for play", buy any mic. If it's for real recording, stick to pro hardware.

IPhone and usb mics

Last year I was able to use the blue Nessie Usb mic with my iPhone and host radio shows in my 18 wheeler. I just bought the atr 2100 usb mic, and now when I place a Skype call it shuts off the mic. Any clue how make it work?

Evidently my problem was the computer. I had an identical G5 Tower and transferred the guts. USB works fine now. However, I still don't understand how some devices requiring 2.0 still worked on it.

USB Mic no longer works with Skype after 7.1 updat...

Using a USB headset with skype, worked with previous versions, works with other programs. I can hear people talk but they can't hear me! Skype detects the mic just fine but when I talk nobody can hear me.
I have tried updating drivers, re-installing skype, I have tried deleting my profile/preferences from the skype folder on my PC and starting from scratch, tried restarting my computer, re-installing my headset drivers, and tried restarting or re-plugging in my mic. Nothing works. Skype simply doesn't use my mic properly in the new version, previous versions did not have this problem, as I said mic works fine in all other programs.

This will help us investigate and solve the problem you are experiencing.

Help with Rode Posdcaster USB Mic

Hello all--
I'm trying to use audacity to create my first podcasts for a class. I initially tried a no-name lapel mic that plugged into the line in on my Macbook Pro. No dice. When I go to Sound on the control panel, I can't get any of the bars to move, even when I select the mic.
I did a bit of reading and figure that it may be because the mic isn't powered by the audio in. Ok. No problem. I borrowed a brand new Rode Podcaster USB mic to try. Plug it in, got the green light on the mic showing power. Go to Sound and there it is listed. Still, when I select it, I can't get any sound to show up on the bars.
Ideas? I'm missing something dumb.
I'd figure that the mic wasn't Mac friendly but the instructions have a mac section dealing with 10.4+ installation. Followed 'em to the letter.

I tried that, but the mic doesn't show up in Audacity. I don't think that the Mac is getting any input at all. In the sound panel, the Rode mic shows up as installed, but when I select it and talk into it, no movement on the bars. That's what's annoying me--the computer knows it is there, but nothing is coming in. I think my problem is with the mic, not the program.
Just for hoots, I tried it on my G5. Same deal. Mac recognizes the mic is there, but no sound coming in.
Ideas?
