USB Microphone cuts out all sound

I'm using Logic Express 8, with an MXL condenser microphone.  At first everything worked fine.  I could hear all the audio.
But now, when I plug in the microphone, it cuts off all sound.  The computer is receiving an audio signal.  Under preferences, USB Audio Codec is chosen.
I created an aggregate devise, but that didn't work.  I chose the new aggregate devise in audio preferences.  No luck.
Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks,
Michael

I do not have your exact computer model or sound driver, but I can tell you what I did that fixed my microphone issues almost instantly for my G780!
My microphone also cut out during voip calls (such as Skype, G+ hangouts, etc) but my audio when using any type of recording software was fine!
So apparently for my laptop, there was a bit of additional software that was installed called Smart Audio which is also by Coaxant.
If you have this program, this is probably what is causing all the sporadic quality changes.
What I did:
-Open Smart Audio (it's not actually an installed program, it is a setting so I just searched for it in the start menu)
-Go over to the VOIP tab on the bottom, and click on Voice Over IP to DISABLE the features.
-The icon for the setting should now be disabled, along with microphone noise reduction and acoustic echo cancellation.
These settings in smart audio were the ones making my microphone sound so horrible. As soon as I disabled it, people on the other side of the chat immediately noticed a dramatic increase in overall quality!
Hope this helps!

Whenever I stream music from my mba via either iTunes or AirFoil to my speakers the sound will cut out all the time.  If I switch the sound output in sound preferences to the airplay speakers then everything works fine and there's no cutting out.  How can this be fixed so that I don't have to change the system preferences everytime I want to play music to the airplay speakers?

  • Is there a way to automatically cut out all silent areas in a region

    Hi All,
I'm doing a 4 hour narrative, using Logic Express 9.1.8 and I was wondering if there was a way to automatically cut out all silent (or unrecorded) areas in a region... rather than make each cut manually.
I do know there are other recording options like "Punch on the fly", etc. but this is my preferred method of recording.
I've added a screenshot of part of the region below, just to clarify what I'm asking (in case the wording isn't 100% accurate)
    Thanks very much!

    Hi
Select the region then use Audio:Strip Silence

  • USB Microphone cut's out

This is the second USB microphone I bought (a Blue USB Microphone) to go with my iMage USB camera.
Everthing works great except for when the sound on the mic stops working, having to unplug and re plug in the USB connection to have the mic start working again.
Seems to be software related since this happened on 2 different mics, anyone else have any trouble like this?
    Thanks, JohnnyB

    Hi johnnywashere,
DOes the Mic show up in System Preferences > Sound > Input tab ?
Is the volume set high enough (to get a response at least 1/2 way with iChat ?
In iChat > Preferences > Video section > Microphone Drop down is the same Mic selected ?
In iChat > Video menu (may read Audio) does the Microphone Enabled item have a Tick ?
In iChat > View Menu is Show Audio Status ticked ?
(err..... Is it turned on. Mine has an On/Off switch)

  • Microphone cuts out

My microphone on my G72-C55DX cuts out when I try to have a conversation with someone on skype. Also when I play back a recording it skips. I never had this problem before, but just recently it has been happening. I've only had my laptop for a few months, how can I fix this?

  • USB Mic cutting out

Well, here's my problem. I play WoW (World of Warcraft) and my guild uses ventrilo (speex codec and it works fine). I use a plantronics usb headset which is great, but every once in a while my computer will lock up (sometimes just for 5 seconds, sometimes I'm forced to hold down the power button and restart). The problem, aside from the lockup, is that if it is just a temporary stall, all sound stops and my guildmates cannot hear me speak, but I can hear them. I've made sure the mic isn't muted, I've restarted ventrilo and nothing seems to work. The only thing that solves the issue is restarting my computer (I don't think I need to mention how inconvenient that is).
If anyone knows a way to fix this problem please let me know. I'm not sure what causes the freeze, but when it happens I stop all actions and restart. A faster solution would be so nice.
    cheers

  • 2ndgen shuffle cuts out all the time

My shuffle worked great for a month. But now, while I'm running, either the sound cuts out or the unit stops playing - I haven't been able to figure out which. When this first started happening, I could get it to play again by pressing the play button - it was as if it had paused itself. But now, I have to do all kinds of things to get it going again and I really haven't been able to figure out what makes it start again. I turn it off and on, I pull out the headphone jack and put it back in, I toggle pause/play, and eventually one of those things gets it going again. It's really annoying and I have no idea what's wrong. I'm tired of going to the apple store - I just had to recycle one iPod and then exchange the replacement iPod (which didn't work) for this Shuffle. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on? Thanks.

Where do you clip the Shuffle when you run? Is it

Thanks for the suggestions. It's definitely possible that it's getting moisture on it, and I did not know about disabling the controls. I'll give that a shot and also watch out for moisture.

  • WIFI cutting out all the time, since I downloaded software version 10.8

Ever since I downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8 I have wifi issues. My wifi continually cuts out, I have to turn wifi off and turn it on again to connect. This occurs every 5 to 10 minutes. I have looked at other solutions but none have worked. I have reset everything but the same problem persists. I think its a software issue, any help would be aprrecuated.

Yes, same problem here. It is a widely experienced problem by a host of users that upgraded to 10.8 (it's unclear if it started with 10.8 or 10.8.2). E.g.: MacRumors has a long discussion on this, and it's just one of the many sites with many complaining users: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1451152
Here's what I've figured out so far, and this is after living with the problem (and trying to fix it now) for many weeks, and perusing many online resources:
The problem in question (that I'm discussing) is one where your Mac network connection completely hangs. Attempts to open a web browser, for instance, hang for about a minute, and then you get the "cannot find the web site" page. Likewise, any network access (ssh, telnet, email, ping) are all completely blocked, as if you had no network at all -- and yet, at the same time, you've got 5 bars on your wifi status and a solid connection to the router. Network status in your settings all looks fine. The most common fix at this point is to either 1) turn off wifi and restart it, which almost always works, or 2) go ahead and restart the router, which annoys the heck out of everyone else in the office but also works fine.
The problem is probably related to an update to the 10.8.2 network stack. Ignore anyone that says something like "reset your router," this is not the issue. This can be verified easily enough: Are any other devices on the router impacted? No? Then the router is fine (here we have about a dozen computers, iPads, and an AppleTV, and a VOIP phone system on the router -- they all keep working fine, it is only the MacBooks that were updated to 10.8.2 that exhibit the problem.
The problem is apparently specific to the 802.11 'n' protocol. We successfully reconfigured our router so that it supports two different networks, one 802.11g "Boss Logic" and one 802.11n "Boss Logic 5Ghz." In other words, we switched it up so that you can use a 'g' network ("Boss Logic") or an 'n' network ("Boss Logic 5Ghz"). All the PC users are happily using the higher speed 5Ghz network -- and all the Mac users are now, unhappily, using the older 'g' network. If your router supports this (having a dual configuration, such as the Apple Airport routers do) then it's a great fix... at some performance cost. We've done this here, and yes, it did absolutely work, no hangs since switching over.
I have read elsewhere that you might be able to continue using the 'n' network, if you change your MTU size to a non-1500 settings. I'm giving this a shot and will see how it goes. (Just go into settings and change your wireless network 'hardware' tab to use an MTU of, say, 1495). Good luck if you try this.
Hope this helps and let's all cross our fingers and hope Apple starts paying attention. It seems like it's been an eternity... but it's probably only been a month or two. But hey getting booted off the network a few times a day can be a really, really annoying experience.

  • My music cuts out and sounds staticy

when i play my music through itunes its sounds staticy, cuts out, jumps etc. its so annoying!!this doesnt happen when i use windows media player. can someone please tell me what wrong with it..cheers..

Firstly, thanks for trying to help.
I followed the steps you said & there is 6 things under Sounds & Controllers in Device manager.
    They are:
    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture
    Media Control Devices
    Realtek AC '97 Audio
    Video Codecs
I'm not sure which is the sound card?
I have been using a hip-hop forum as 1 tab & I play a game called Football Manager while listening to iTunes. I have also veiwed some other sites while listening & the problem persits.
When I start iTunes, it usualy starts fine, but lasts less then 1 song & the problems start & they seem to get progressivly worse untill the track is unlistenable to. This is in the space of about 2-3 mins. I also use Firefox & have the music control bar at the bottom of my browser. Dunno if that what make a differance.?
    Hope this info helps.

  • USB Microphone fades out with RealPresense

We use Polycom RealPresense for desktop video conferencing. If the microphone gain is set to a high level (usually needed) and it hears a loud noise the microphone gain is reduced (looking in control panel>sound>recording>microphone>levels).
The gain then does not recover when the background noise has reduced. Eventually the gain drops to 29% where it stays.
This only happens with USB microphones and several have been tried. The drivers have been updated to the latest. It behaves the same with older versions of the application as well as the latest. It happens with Windows 7, both X86 and X64 versions.
We have not tried other versions of Windows, as these would be irrelevant.
It also happens with other communication software, but not if only Windows is running.
Has anyone else met with and resolved this problem?
If this is the wrong forum to post this question I would be grateful if a moderator could move it and then let me know.

Its something not related to Windows then. May be application or drivers ?

  • Airport Express and iMac connection cuts out all the time

I have an Airport Express set to 802.11n with b and g compatibility. It is connected to a DSL modem with a static IP address via an Ethernet cable. I use a MacBook Air in the same room as the AE. In another room, I have a 24" iMac (Intel). The iMac is always connected to the AE network as is the MBA. Everytime I make a connection to the iMac (via Screen Sharing or other), the connection cuts out after awhile. There is no interference with the iMac connection, the AE is using a channel no one else around me is using, it just suddenly stops receiving any packets from the AE. I have to open Safari, wait for a website not to load, click on the Network Diagnostic button, go through the reconnection process to the AE network and then it comes back and tells me all is OK. The energy saver is set so the computer never falls to sleep and it is not related to the screen saver coming on.
It just stops sending data to the iMac. All firmware and software are up to date. I have the same problem when using Back to My Mac outside the home. Sometimes I can connect and sometimes I can't.
    Can anyone help?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. Here are the answers to your questions:
Channel selection is on Automatic. I have tried switching channels on both my DSL router (and it doesn't go to the channel I select!) and on the AE. Performance is the same.
iMac still drops connection even if MBA is not logged onto the network.
Screen Sharing's performance is poor, even if iMac is receiving other internet data (Safari or iTunes downloads)
MBA always has a good connection
Each machine is using 10.5.5. This problem exists only in the last couple of months when my DSL provider (all Linux) changed some of their configurations.
I will try to do the terminal exercise today. So far this am and last night, no dropped connections. Go figure!

  • Microphone cutting out periodically

My microphone periodically turns off during skype calls, and only during them. If I am not in a skype call all my other programs can use my mic fine, but after about 10 minutes in a call my mic will turn off for my entire computer.
I don't even have to unmute it or anything, if I adjust the volume or the bass or anything the mic will turn itself back on, its really confounding. It's like it reminds skype that its there or something, I dunno.
I already thought it might be the computer turning off the usb ports so I checked that, which turned out to be wrong. I also thought it might be skype adjusting my mic volume to nothing so I took away the option to adjust my mic but nothing came of that either. It's been doing this for about 3 or 4 days and I'm not sure what to do.
If it matters any, I'm using a Skullcandy headset.

Same issue here. If I have to think of a software that does not work 90% of the times when I use it, I think of skype. It's just a collection of bugs more than a piece of software. There's several other posts describing the same problem, but no answer from the skype team appearantly.

  • USBECHI error. USB devices cutting out

    Hi guys,
I am having a severe problem with my computer which happened ever since I installed my new motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
This is the error in event viewer:
"A timeout occurred while waiting for the EHCI host controller Interrupt on Async Advance Doorbell response."
I have updated bios to latest, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. And it still seems to happen, randomly at that.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Yea, it sounds "severe" as I have no such device listed at all (EHCI host controller) in my G46-970a system...  I think you might have the syntax wrong. or quite possibly your OS is looking for a network device no longer in your network.  Do you by any chance have a 3rd-party USB card installed?  Doesn't sound like it, but then, there's no EHCI controller, either.  "Timeouts" generally occur across a network or the Internet--so it would appear your OS is attempting to query an "EHCI controller" and getting no response, and simply letting you know about it. "async Advance Doorbell response" sounds kind of kinky--like maybe your installation is looking for some kind of network burglar alarm system, or something...!   You said you reinstalled Windows, and if so, then you are running some sort of strange network software that is looking for a device it cannot find--or, heck, maybe you've simply picked up a virus--some of those virus guys have a sense of humor every now and then--like "Doorbell response," that may be an example.  Install MSE AV/malware software and scan all your drives just to eliminate that.
Also, your post lacks much in the way of critical information that would assist people in helping you--list of components, OS version, clocks, networks, etc. I'm just taking potshots here.  I can say with authority, though, that the message you're getting has nothing to do with your G46-970a.  After you scan for viruses and malware, I'd advise you to format c:\ and then reinstall Windows from scratch. (You should do this with any motherboard changeout as a matter of course.)  Good luck!

  • ISight microphone cuts out

I have an external iSight that I use primarily as a microphone while using Skype. The problem I am having is that about 10 minutes or so into a conversation the microphone will quit working. It is as if it goes to sleep or something. When I go to the system profiler it sometimes disappears or is not recognized as being plugged in. Unplugging and plugging back in has worked but not always. I have tried two different fire wires and it has happened with both. A restart of the computer works most of the time, but it is confusing why it works fine and then all of a sudden stops working. Can anyone help with this?

If you cannot find the help you need at Where to Find Help for iSight, your problem may be related to the software application you are using to drive your iSight when the problem occurs.
Your best help for Skype problems will probably come from the Skype Help pages, including the Skype Forum available there. I do not use Skype, but their Help section seems to offer an unusually comprehensive help system.

  • N73 - problem - sound cuts out in calls - please a...

Hi, I have an N73 and it's been fine (apart from the top of the joystick falling off and the charger just deciding to stop working) but now I have a major problem.
When I make a call or someone calls me the phone just cuts out all the time as if there is a very bad reception. I've made sure the reception isn't the case and it seems the person on the other end of the line can hear me fine. I've also tried turning the volume down, up, turning the phone on, off. It doesn't do this in every call, but I have to avoid using it because it will do it on at least 90% of calls! The phone is generally in good condition and I do look after it (I'm stuck with it for 18 months) I use this phone for work and it's embarassing and impossible sometimes, T-Mobile won't do anything and I'm very close to throwing it at a wall when it does this!
Anyone else got this problem? Anyone know what I can do?!
    Alisdair

    Hi
    cool down.
    I am here.
I guess the nu FW has this problem.
However if your phone doesnt have the latest FW, check it *#0000# upgrade it.
Or if it is havin, try reinstallin it.
Or, you can do a hard reset, *#7370#.
Next, if all of thses things fails, take trip to nokia care.
