USB Microphone fades out with RealPresense

We use Polycom RealPresense for desktop video conferencing. If the microphone gain is set to a high level (usually needed) and it hears a loud noise the microphone gain is reduced (looking in control panel>sound>recording>microphone>levels).
The gain then does not recover when the background noise has reduced. Eventually the gain drops to 29% where it stays.
This only happens with USB microphones and several have been tried. The drivers have been updated to the latest. It behaves the same with older versions of the application as well as the latest. It happens with Windows 7, both X86 and X64 versions.
We have not tried other versions of Windows, as these would be irrelevant.
It also happens with other communication software, but not if only Windows is running.
Has anyone else met with and resolved this problem?
If this is the wrong forum to post this question I would be grateful if a moderator could move it and then let me know.

Its something not related to Windows then. May be application or drivers ?

  • USB microphone not working with AudioPublisher

    Hi,
    I have a voice chat feature in my application, in which I use AudioPublisher and AudioSubscriber.
    The code is almost identical to the Audio.mxml example coming with the SDK.
    I have a 'start voice chat' button that starts voice chat.
    The problem I'm having is that a Macbook's built-in microphone works fine,
    while an external USB microphone doesn't.
    I selected the correct Microphone from the drop-down menu in the 'Adobe Flash Player Settings',
    and the record volume bar also properly shows a non-mute green bar.
    The headset I'm using is MX500i from Plantronics.
    I don't think there's any problem with my code considering that it works perfectly with Macbook's microphone.
    It'd be great if anyone has a solution to the problem I have.

    I had the same problem. You need to check the device index of your USB mic.
    In my case. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.6 system. I had four devices cataloged. With the last one being the USB mic.
    Then set like so in your AS code audioPub.microphoneManager.micIndex = 3;
    Remember, that the indexing is 0 based.
    The sound framework make the assumption that the index is 0.

  • External usb microphone not working with FaceTime and mac mini with os x Yosemite

    Hello
    When I try to do a phone call with face time through my iphone 6 face time is not recognizing my external usb microphone connected to my mac mini. I have just updated my mac mini to os x Yosemite. If I go to the audio system preferences and look to the audio input signal I can see that the external microphone (SB Omni Surround 5.1) is working (audio input level is showing an input signal).
    Can someone help. I saw that this was also an issue in the beta versions of Yosemite.

    Interesting.  I don't have a USB mic on the Mac Pro.  Its the OLD FireWire 300 iSight.  It works for FaceTime calls but not the iPhone call via the FaceTime app.
    I also have 2010 MBP that works perfectly, even since the first Public Beta.  I'm to sure if that mic is considered an external USB device or not, or if it has to do with device signatures vs. external or internal.  I would almost assume that the built-in mic is on the USB bus.  How would it be any different than the external USB.
    I think I have to agree that this is a point release bug.  I have submitted a bug report at bugreport.apple.com, and would ask others to do the same, or at least post to apple.com/feedback.  The more noise we make through process the more likely to get a fix in the .1 release.

  • USB Microphone cuts out all sound

    I'm using Logic Express 8, with an MXL condenser microphone.  At first everything worked fine.  I could hear all the audio.
    But now, when I plug in the microphone, it cuts off all sound.  The computer is receiving an audio signal.  Under preferences, USB Audio Codec is chosen.
    I created an aggregate devise, but that didn't work.  I chose the new aggregate devise in audio preferences.  No luck.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    I do not have your exact computer model or sound driver, but I can tell you what I did that fixed my microphone issues almost instantly for my G780!
    My microphone also cut out during voip calls (such as Skype, G+ hangouts, etc) but my audio when using any type of recording software was fine!
    So apparently for my laptop, there was a bit of additional software that was installed called Smart Audio which is also by Coaxant. 
    If you have this program, this is probably what is causing all the sporadic quality changes. 
    What I did:
    -Open Smart Audio (it's not actually an installed program, it is a setting so I just searched for it in the start menu)
    -Go over to the VOIP tab on the bottom, and click on Voice Over IP to DISABLE the features. 
    -The icon for the setting should now be disabled, along with microphone noise reduction and acoustic echo cancellation. 
    These settings in smart audio were the ones making my microphone sound so horrible. As soon as I disabled it, people on the other side of the chat immediately noticed a dramatic increase in overall quality!

    - sorry if this has been asked a million times but i did read the faq and couldn;t find an answer
    i can't get a microhphone signal into my pc thorugh the audigy card. i'm pretty sure the break out box is connected right, and the sound comes OUT fine, but when i click on the sound options on the toolbar the last faders on the last three (PC-Speaker, TAD-in and Microphone) are greyed out. what can i do?

    That's because some games do not support secondary mic in port. Those games would usually always default audio mixer setting back to what it does/can support. Games like CounterStrike have some workaround tweak that you can find here in their forum but I'm afraid BF2 does not have a similar tweak. You can check up EA support page for BF2.

  • Trouble with music fade out

    I just finished a photo slide show in iMovie and have used iTunes music from a CD. The problem is that my slide show is shorter than the music and I want to do a "fade out" with the music. I've done this before with music within the iMovie program where I select "show clip volume levels" from "View"; however, I can't get this to work with this piece of music. Those levels just don't show for me to do the fade out!
    Any ideas on what I can do or am doing wrong?

    In the timeline, click on the audio clip and use the usual volume adjustment, i.e. pull down the end of the 'volume line' until it slopes downwards.

  • USB Microphone cut's out

    This is the second USB microphone I bought (a Blue USB Microphone) to go with my iMage USB camera.
    Everthing works great except for when the sound on the mic stops working, having to unplug and re plug in the USB connection to have the mic start working again.
    Seems to be software related since this happened on 2 different mics, anyone else have any trouble like this?

    DOes the Mic show up in System Preferences > Sound > Input tab ?
    Is the volume set high enough (to get a response at least 1/2 way with iChat ?
    In iChat > Preferences > Video section > Microphone Drop down is the same Mic selected ?
    In iChat > Video menu (may read Audio) does the Microphone Enabled item have a Tick ?
    In iChat > View Menu is Show Audio Status ticked ?
    (err..... Is it turned on. Mine has an On/Off switch)

  • Getting the USB microphone to appear in Live Meeting 2007

    Optia AF camera under Vista, using Live Meeting 2007. The video works fine. But, neither Live Meeting nor Office Communicator lists the built-in USB microphones as a choice when configuring the audio. The only way I can get audio to work is by using the headphones and microphone connected to my sound card.
    Strangely enough, the USB microphone works fine with Windows Sound Recorder if I set it as the default sound input device in the Windows sound control panel.
    Anybody else have this problem and find a solution?

    Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
    Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
    Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
    Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
    And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

  • High pitched noise when recording w/ M-Audio Producer USB Microphone

    I have an M-Audio Producer USB Microphone. Recording with GarageBand, nothing else connected, using an the Apple AC power cord (three pronged ground).
    When I record with it plugged into the USB port closest to my FireWire port there is a constant high pitched noise.
    When I record with it plugged into the USB port furthest from the FireWire port there is no noise at all (as it should be).
    What's wrong with my USB port closest to the FireWire?

    I am having major problems with iMovie (and iDVD) ever since I upgraded to OS.X.10.5.6. I had to scrap my last promo-video. I am now recreating it very gingerly saving as I go but I am now stuck again. I am getting the digital audio screeching under my video clips when I extract the audio and under insert titles and transitions. Does this describe your 'crickets'?
    I have clean video and audio signal from my camcorder. Check your cam' playback to verify. After three attempts I do have clean material in iMovie but cannot proceed until I resolve this issue. I ruined my last video when I extracted the audio and ended up with a garbled rumble which I could not reverse.
    I have another question elsewhere regarding burning to DVD but I now need to resolve this before I can get to test the recommendations in the reply.
    I hope I have helped focus your symptoms. I also hope there is an answer out there for this issue.

    This had me foxed for a while too. I've managed to get rid of it using the undo history, then realised you can do it by setting the fade value in the upper left box of the arrange window to 0. But surely there's an easier way?

  • MBP not recognizing USB Microphone

    Need some help as I have an Audio Technica ATR2500-USB microphone that works with a PC but does not as of recently with my MBP late 2011 OS 10.9.3
    I have used in the past with no problem at all in Garageband.  Now I cant find it in either GB or System Preferences.

    Try a SMC reset:
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer. 
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Try a PRAM RESET:
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
    Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    Try a perissions repair: Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility (Or Go>Utilities in the menu bar, or SHIFT + COMMAND + U from the Finder desktop) select(highlight) your volume (default name Macintosh HD)in the left sidebar, click repair permissions.
    Try these one at a time, they can cause no harm

    I used enhancedMicrophone class in a Voice-Chat application  , but the sound fade out after milliseconds for second client.
    for example:
    just say numbers  1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10  continuously on your microphone ,  your voice will fade out after saying number 5.
    and voice is not clear at all when speaking .
    Has anyone faced to this issue?

    It is a serious issue for creating real-time live chat applications with adobe flash platform!

  • PS3 Guitar Hero USB Microphone works with iPad and GarageBand ! :-)

    I have a white USB adaptor that I use to connect my digital camera to my iPad. This morning I connected my guitar hero USB microphone into it and it worked using GarageBand !
    I have not heard any distortions.... Is there anybody else out there that can also test this scenario ???
    If you already have this mike, why pay more for another one that seems to do the same thing ??

    I use a USB mic with all my audio applications.
    However, it appears that PrE doesn't see the mic for narration.  I've set up the audio hardware preferences to use the Default System Input/Output but no recognition of the mic.
    The mic works fine on all my other applications and is selected in system preferences to be the input of choice, and tests indicate it is recognized.
    I changed the audio hardware selection in PrE to use the built in mic and it works as expected.
    So I'm led to wonder if there is a problem with using a USB mic?
    The documentation, referencing windows only, mentions plugging in a microphone to the microphone socket on the PC, not mention of a USB mic?
    Any pointers to where I might find a solution?
