USB Microphone With Garageband & Skype?

Will I be able to record a Skype conversation using a USB Microphone? Currently, I record using my laptop's internal mic but it picks up the laptop's fan noise.

Get This skype recorder by ecamm http://ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/ its only $14.95 and works amazing! I also use a Blue Snowflake USB mic which you can pick up on amazon for $50 and I use for both skype and my audio products I created. Then all you need is your apple earphones so you dont pick up and echo and make sure to have the mic close to your mouth so it gets better audio and no computer noise. This is what I use for my radio show and podcasts.

  • Using USB Microphone With GarageBand iPad?

Hi, I have the Samson G-Track USB Microphone and have been using it with GarageBand for iPad (with a powered USB hub) and I was wondering if there is a way to enable "Monitor" so that when I speak into the microphone I can hear myself in the headphones? I have no problem recording with the microphone, I just can't hear myself when I'm recording. There are a few switches on the actual microphone that could control this or it could all be controlled from iPad itself, just looking for anyone who could help with this matter. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem trying to monitor my turntable recording via a USB phono amp connected via a USB hub to the photo connection kit.
Have you had any help with this yet?

  • Using USB preamp with Garageband

Garageband will not recognize my microphone for some reason. I am using an M-Audio USB Preamp, with a Behringer condensor microphone. I have changed the input/output settings in both the mac settings and the garageband settings to "M-Audio Mobilepre USB." Garageband must recognize the preamp because it has it as an option in the input and output. The computer hears the microphone, because the input level bar in system preferences responds to sound. Garageband works fine with the built in mic, and the microphone volume is maxed, so I know that isn't it. Any help?

How did you figure it out?
I've been trying to plug my Gibson into Garage Band but all i get is feedback. I seemed to have followed all the same steps as you. From researching on-line right now it looks like I might have to get a pre-amp... you know anything about that?
    any help would be cool.
    thanks!

  • USB microphone with Mac mini - can it work?

I recently bought a cheap USB camera with built-in mic, and a USB headphone/microphone interface. Neither of these microphones work with my shiny new Mac mini (10.7.2). The headphone USB interface works fine, and it even includes a volume and mute - very cool indeed (Arvel HAMU02BK if you want to look it up). In the Sound Preference pane, it shows up as an input, but the meter doesn't show any response. I plug the same mic and adaptor into a G4 PowerBook (10.5.8) and it works. The camera (Buffalo BSW13K08HBK) also shows up as a mic in the Sound Preference pane, but the meter fails to respond (shows about a 60% continuous input signal, but using it with Skype test, doesn't record anything.

Camera itself seems to work nicely, though, and there seems to be enough power off the hub to make things work. Is this a bug? If I want to plug a mic into the Mac itself, can I use any of the "pink" 3-pole 3.5mm computer mics?

  • Using USB microphone with iBook

I have an iBook G4 and GarageBand 1.1. I recently bought a MicFlex USB microphone, but I can't make it record. I have set the system preferences and I can set the record level for the USB mic there, but GarageBand automatically uses the built-in microphone for recording. How do I change this?

No worries, now you're a little less new. Enjoy --Hang

  • Using USB microphone with LE

I currently use an M-Audio FastTrack Pro and an XLR condenser microphone. But setting is all up to record vocals is time consuming for my young son. I was thinking of getting a USB mic with a desk stand for him to use for recording his vocals. Anyone out there using Logic Express 8 and a USB mic? How do I set it up? Any suggestions for a good mic under $100?
    Thanks

Best solution: Teach your son how to use the "right" mic. Sorry, but I would not recommend the USB thing-mic. If it's "just for play", buy any mic. If it's for real recording, stick to pro hardware.

  • USB microphone with adobe flash player on chromebook

I am using fash player to record a youtube video on my samsung chromebook. I am trying to use a USB microphone to do the recording. My chromebook recognizes the USB microphone when I plug it in and I select it in my chromebooks taskbar and select it as the audio input source. When i go to record my video on flashplayer and select the microhpone in flash player icon the only option I have is default. Does this mean I cant use my USB microphone or does default refer to whatever microphone i have selected in my chromebooks preference as the audio input.

    What are microphone settings?
Microphone settings allow you to select a microphone, adjust its sensitivity, and reduce the echo that may be coming from your speakers.
What happens if I do nothing?
Adobe  Flash Player automatically detects any default microphone or other audio recorder on your computer, and sets microphone sensitivity to a medium value.
Note that Flash Player asks your permission before allowing an application to access your camera or microphone. See Privacy pop-up question.
    What can I change here?
You can select a different microphone, adjust microphone sensitivity, and reduce echo. The settings you select here apply immediately to the active Flash application. To change the default microphone, select another microphone from the pop-up menu.
To test your microphone, speak in a normal tone of voice and watch the indicator on the left. When the indicator shows yellow, your microphone is sensitive enough for Flash Player to pick up sound. To increase or decrease your microphone's sensitivity, move the slider to the right or the left, respectively.
If you are using speakers instead of headphones, select Reduce Echo. Reducing echo has the effect of reducing the noise coming from your microphone through your speakers.
What if Flash Player doesn't find a microphone?
If Flash Player cannot locate a microphone or other audio device on your computer, the player displays the warning "No microphone detected." Read the documentation for your computer and your microphone to make sure your microphone is installed correctly.
How do I test my speakers?
Click Test Speaker in the application shown below to hear a sample sound. Adjust your speakers or headset so the sound is at a comfortable level.
How can I display this panel again?
You may want to display this panel again if, for example, you want Flash Player to use a different microphone. To display the Microphone panel:
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) the application image while it is playing.
From the context menu, select Settings, and then click the Microphone tab.
I don't see the Microphone tab, so I can't display this panel.
If your computer or device doesn't support audio recording using Flash Player, you cannot select a microphone to use, and this panel doesn't appear.

  • Trouble using USB keyboard with GarageBand

I have a Yamaha DGX-305 keyboard with a USB out. I want to record the real instrument using GarageBand, rather than using MIDI input. Is this possible? GarageBand isn't recognizing the keyboard when I simply plug it in. I've downloaded what looks to be the appropriate driver form the Yamaha site. It sounds like some keyboards are set up for plug-and-play. Is there a way I can get this to work where GarageBand records the real instrument via USB? Thanks.

I've downloaded what looks to be the appropriate driver form the Yamaha site.
But maybe it's not the right one. Is it this one?
When you go to GB's Audio/Midi prefs, does it detect 0 midi devices or 1?

  • Saffire 6 USB "conflict" with Garageband?

My Saffire 6 USB interface worked beautifully yesterday, but not today.  I have installed no new updates between then and now.
    I'm on a MBP, running 10.9 w/ 6.0.6 (428.5).
I've got my Saffire 6 plugged into the first USB port (closest to the headphone jack).
As soon as I plug it in, I receive prompts ("New Device" and then "Number of Midi Inputs has Changed").
Yesterday, I clicked through these prompts and was able to use the Saffire effortlessly.  I monitored through the interface rather than the computer.  It sounded great.
Today, I received the same prompts but receive an "Error While Trying to Synchronize Audio and Midi" prompt.  The rest of the prompt says (verbatim): "Sample Rate 9896 Recognized. Check Conflict Between GarageBand and External Device."
i should add that the sample rate number is different every time.
I have my audio resolution set to "better," just as I did yesterday, when this thing worked with no effort whatsoever.
    Little help?

HangTime wrote: "open the Audio MIDI Setup utiity and make sure your interface is set to a 44100 sample rate"
I write:  yes, that is how it was set yesterday, and that's how it's set today.  Still not working.
The thing that really gets me is that I'm doing exactly what I did yesterday, it worked beautifully, and I'm getting nowhere today.
I should also add that I have the latest drivers for the Saffire 6, before someone posts to tell me to get the latest drivers.
Thanks for your reply, HangTime.  What now?

  • Using an external usb keyboard with garageband

Hi there, Recieved my 20' imac today and am delighted with it overall had no problems and all programs run smoothy. I installed my garageband jam packs (I have four which I bought from apple) and then plugged in my m-audio radium 49 (also purchased from apple) keyboard and was looking forward to giving garageband a good workout. Unfortunately my intel mac doesnt seem to recognise keyboard at all and will not work. As I have spent many hundreds of pounds on garageband extras does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this standard apple recommended keyboard (its still on sale on site with no mention of incompatibility with intel imac) to work.
Have tested keyboard on a g4 setup and it worked straight away in garageband any help would be most appreciated thanks
ipods, intel 20' imac with 2 gig of ram   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

unfortunately I do not have a second mac (g5 or otherwise as I sold it when I bought new one lol) to try this method. I did notice m-audio had updated there drivers for osx 10.4 but unfortunately these drivers only work for g5/g4/g3 mac and not for the intel mac keyboards so at the moment I do not have a workaround for this problem. I have emailed m-audio and asked for a timeframe for drivers but have not received a response yet so at the moment I am unaware of any usb midi keyboard that works natively for a intel mac which is rather tragic lol as garageband is basically unuseable without a method of inputting midi but hopefully someone will prove me wrong and suggest a solution. On another issue my usb keyboard and mouse had the freezing problem that seems quite common but after a lengthy phonecall to apple I asked for a replacement wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse which I have received and can report works absolutely perfectly so there may have been a bad batch of usb keyboard/mouse combinations made. Otherwise everything is working perfectly and I am delighted with the new imac

  • Setting up usb keyboard with Garageband?!

Hello, i Have a Yamaha PSR - K1 keyboard. And i would like to use this as a midi kayboard in Garageband, could anyone give me some directions on how to do this?? Im kinda newbie on this subject.
    Matt

First of all: You'll have to understand the difference between audio and midi. Maybe here:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/AudioNotMIDI.html
Midi signals are not sound. So the basic question is:
    • Do you want to use your keyboard to trigger GB's internal sounds? (-> Midi connection)
    • Do you want to record sounds that you play on your keyboard (-> Audio connection)
    • Do you want to trigger your keyboard's sounds with midi stuff that you recorded in GB (-> not possible in GB, only with a plugin)
So let's assume you're trying the first option. That implies, according to your numbering:
    (1) Forget the Sound prefs, you're not transmitting sound
    (2) Midi setup seems to be fine, since GB is recognizing your interface
    (3) There's no need for any setup in GB - it's listening to all midi channels when you press "record"
So, with your keyboard connected and recognized - have you set up a software track? Do the little LEDs light up when you play notes?
Since the interface seems to be fine - if you don't register any midi data coming in, I guess it must be your keyboard not sending data - and sorry, I'm not familiar with it, so I can't offer any help on this but ask: You're sure you plugged the round midi plug into the "midi out" jack of the keyboard?

  • How do I use a USB microphone with logic?

Logic recognizes the samson meteor microphone, but how do I get sound from it when using it for a track? Do I select an audio, software instr, or midi track? I also use an audiobox midi for my keyboard. For that, I select software instrument and then I have sound. I tried creating an aggregate device but still no sound. Thanks so much for any help possible..

The headphones port outputs audio signal from Logic. Plug the mixer into the lin-in port.

  • Help with USB Microphone Issues

Checked the support area about USB Mics but am still having trouble.
I am running Soundbooth stand alone, on my Mac Book..Leopard OS. I have a Samson Co3U USB microphone with a Samson Soft PreAmp loaded. I am switching over from Garageband to Soundbooth. I have actually used Soundbooth once and it worked fine..until this week. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong now. Probably need lessons. The Midi set up is set to System default Input/Output which is actually set to the Samson mic, but when I record, all I get is a very muffled audio. I know its not the mic because it still works great on my other MacBook in Garageband.
I also wonder whether Soundbooth is just not compatible with Garageband on the same Mac.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Heather

    Hi Heather,
Soundbooth and GarageBand can exist side-by-side with no troubles. In fact, many GarageBand users use Soundbooth to edit their loops and clips, and to clean up and trim their GB projects.
The Samson USB mics are very nice and should work well with Soundbooth. Along with the Blue microphones, the Samson series are the other higher-end USB microphones that I use for testing.
As a quick test, and to make certain we don't affect any other applications, let's try making a customized Aggregate Audio device for Soundbooth using the Samson mic.
    * Close Soundbooth. Open Finder and click Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.
    * Click the AUDIO DEVICES button at the top then in the menu bar select Audio > Open Aggregate Device Editor
    * Click the [+] button to create a new aggregate device. Name it SOUNDBOOTH DEVICE and select the Built-in Output and Samson C03U devices from the bottom list. Click Done and close the Audio MIDI setup tool.
    * Launch Soundbooth, then open Preferences > Audio Hardware. Change the Default Device dropdown to the new SOUNDBOOTH DEVICE we created, then click OK.
    * Try recording!
This driver setup should force Soundbooth to use the Samson device for input, and nothing else. IF you still experience the muffled audio or other recording problems, please reply with more information and we can continue troubleshooting.
    Thanks,
    Durin

  • (PCI)Audigy2 - USB Microphone, Robotic & Ti

Here's an overview of my system, to possibly aid in nailing down the problem.
    Asus A8N5X
    AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice Core
    Thermaltake Silent Purepower 420
    Kingston DDR400 ValueRAM, 024MBx2

    xSony CD/RW
    xPanasonic DVD/RW+CD/RW
    Logitech USB Mini-Optical Mouse
    Logitech USB Microphone
    Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard
Alright, let's get to the meat of this. For about six months, my USB microphone, a Logitech SOCOM2 headset, has functioned perfectly on my system, and countless other friends' boxes. It's been reliable, crystal-clear, and accurate in all of my uses, from SAM Broadcaster to Counter-Strike:Source.
Recently however, I've begun to experience issues which at first simply occured when I installed the AC97 audio drivers for my motherboard, mistakenly assuming it would stop the popping and crackling I was receiving through my 5. Surround when using Creative Audio Console's CMSS 'Stereo Surround' option. I don't have to tell you that was a mistake!
Since then, my USB microphone seems to have stopped functioning properly. I went through and completely deleted the Creative drivers, restarted, and then used DriverCleaner Pro to remove all occurences of the old drivers in the registry and in system files. I did the same (or so I thought) for the AC97 drivers. Then I restarted, reinstalled my Creative drivers, and restarted again. Upon restart, my problem was not resolved.
The problem, specifically, is that the recorded audio from my headset sounds robotic, skips, and crackles wildly, all while adding a colorfully high pitch to my voice. Naturally, this level of fidelity is unacceptable in any aspect of audio recording. After searching google and multiple forums for answers that could assist me in the search for the solution to my problem, I have come up empty. On a higher note, the reinstall seems to have eliminated the crackling noises.
Needless to say, I'm rather miffed about this. My internet gaming experience is highly disrupted by the lack of auditory input when dealing with squadmates online. As a final solution, I ran a windows search for AC97 and found results in both the registry, and in C:\Program Files\AC97. At first I was tempted to simply delete the entries and the folder, but I am unsure where to go from here, and would really appreciate any help in clearing up this matter as I do not intend to ruin things further.
In summary, I have the advanced settings under volume control set to record from the microphone, and volume at 60%. In audio properties, I have the USB Audio device seleted for sound input, and the volume at 60%. I have the proper Creative drivers installed. I have conflicting AC97 drivers installed. AC97 Audio is disabled in BIOS. I have attempted using a new USB microphone, with the same results.
    Thank you for any help!

It's been a long time, but I'd like to update the situation since I've upgraded my processor to an X2 4200+, and reformatted twice since the problems occurred.
I came down to a couple of conclusions while searching for the problem to my USB woes. It appears that the situation isn't actually connected to the sound card, but more likely to the motherboard and how it was handling certain USB connections. It seems that I had once installed a webcam, which I later disconnected, and had been using the same USB port the webcam had used. My computer for some reason insisted that the webcam was then plugged in there, even though it clearly wasn't. After changing USB ports, it still didn't work. So much for that-- just another problem.
After the reformat, the USB microphones (all three) worked again. I guess I'd presume for now that the problem appears related to the USB itself. If anyone else has some input, please feel free to share. Message Edited by Interim on 0-26-200802:58 AM
