USB-MIDI interfaces

Is it possible to connect 2 separate USB-MIDI interfaces? (i.e., use 2 separate 1-in/1-out interfaces instead of a 2-in/1-out interface)

Yes.

  • Logic 7.1.1 and MIDEX8 USB MIDI Interface

Anyone had experience using the Yamaha/Steinberg MIDEX8 USB MIDI Interface with Logic? I've just moved from the PC to Logic on the Mac and since I already own the MIDEX8 I wanted to check first to see that it worked well with Logic before trying to install it. I was advised by the store who sold me the Mac that this would work OK, but was also was advised to get the M-Audio MIDISport 8x8USB as a better choice.
    Thanks in advance.

You are very welcome. and welcome to the Mac family. I made the move this time last year and I am in heaven. its been like getting out of a ford fiesta and in to a Bentley!

  • Best USB-MIDI interface to connect Yamaha MFC10 foot controller to MacBook Air

    Hi guys,
I would like to buy a Yamaha MFC10 MIDI foot controller. It has a number of advantages over other foot controllers. For instance: you can connect up to four additional expression pedals to the foot controller, which is something I might need in the future, so it's better to invest in this product so I am prepared for the future.
The thing is, I want to connect this MIDI controller to a USB port on my MacBook Air. What is the best USB-MIDI interface to get in this situation?
I love to hear your thoughts on this.
    Cheers!
    Best regards,
    Theo

Did you set midi communications to USB? I think by default it may be set to the MIDI port on the back. You need USB.
    Press Utilities, then MIDI (F6).

  • Good USB-MIDI interface

I can see other posts on this topic but they're from 2007
Can anyone recommend a good USB-MIDI interface… I have an old yamaha electric keyboard (about 15 years old) it has the midi in/out plugs so I assume it will connect okay to the Mac/garageband.  I notice on ebay there are similar looking interface devices selling from around USD$6.00  to $40.00 (often it's better to spend more but not always)
That's one question, the other is: will it be likely that I will have to buy a more modern keyboard to work okay with garageband?  I should mention that I have zero experience just now with garageband if anyone knows common problems with trying to wire up a keyboard to a mac…
    Many thanks
    Mark

Thank you Keith, and Hangtime… Once again you will have to forgive my total ignorance about GB to date… once I connect the keyboard I will be able to start playing around…
Keith could you clarify the bit about "do you want midi only, or audio inputs too"…? What form would 'audio inputs' take?
My keyboard has it's own selection of sounds, GB also has it's own collection of sounds. the USB-MIDI interfaces I have seen on bay are mostly just a cable with the 2 midi plugs one end, a usb plug on the other end and a small box in-between.  What would "audio inputs" imply.  would you normally record a GB audio file with sounds from the keyboard or those of GB. does "audio inputs" imply a 3rd selection of sounds?

  • USB midi interface

I would like to record some drumming from my v-drums onto GB. I purchased a USB midi interface. My computer will recognize it but GB will not. I have tried just about everything. Now my question is: does GB only have the option for connecting midi devices through an audio midi interface? Is there any way to use this USB midi interface to do what I want? Can someone help me?

in GB's prefs, under the Audio MIDI tab, what does it say after "MIDI Status:"

  • USB MIDI interface on Cool Edit Pro v2  (Adobe Audition)  ARGGHHH!  Help needed....

Before I shell out on a Roland MIDI interface midi cable for my my home studio can anyone tell me if it will work?  I had a working setup for years with an HP Pavilion Win XP and Creative Audigy Platinum Ex sound card using the Audigy external breakout box for the midi in/out.  Very old but worked fine with my (legit) Cool Edit Pro.  The old PC gave up the ghost so I bought a new ASUS one i5 Intel CPU with a SSD for the OS Apps as well as 1Tb HDD  for storage.
I installed Win 7 as XP is not supported anymore.
THEN I bought a  PCIe to PCI interface (the old Audigy card being standard PCI)
THEN I found that the new Win 7 drivers for the Audigy do not support the  'daughter board' and breakout box so the MIDI interface does not work..
Easy way round that ( I thought ), I will install XP and dual boot the new PC.
THEN I found that the EUFI is incompatible with XP.
THEN I found a way to install XP except that most of the drivers don't work and the XP runs like a dog. You can either have EUFI SATA setup correctl and see the SSD or have XP and the SSD not recognised.
    by the way
The sound card is native on the MB Hi-def surround so Ian probably use that.
Can anyone tell me if I install a Roland Midi In Out USB cable between my MIDI control keyboard Synth  will the Cool Edit Pro recognise it in the Midi device configuration and allow me to input receive MIDI data in the Program?.   I'm losing the 'will to live right' now having already acknowledged that my SB is now a piece of  useless junk.  Cool Edit seems to install and run fine on Win 7 by the way apart from this MIDI problem.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for that and the quick reply.  I suppose shelling out another £40 isn’t going to make a lot of difference having blown £70+ on a PCIe to PCI convertor which is a bit pointless now and especially if it will save me the cost of updating the soundcard and recording software.  I tend to use an external mixer (Tascam) to input and monitor from the PC software.  I suspect , like you, it should work once I de-install the Audigy HW stuff as although the soundcard plays the CEP demo  the device config  window only ‘sees’ that and not the onboard sound hardware.  Fun times ahead.
    Thanks again

  • Yamaha psr-295 usb-midi interface

As is typical the keyboard comes with a Windows CD that has something called "musicsoft downloader" to download (and upload I assume) midi songs/files to the keyboard. There is an OS X usb driver I've installed but I trying to find a way to upload midi files.
Also will GarageBand interface with the PSF-295?
    alan

i haven't heard of a midi interface that osx recognizes that GB can't use.
    As to the uploading....
not familiar with your keyboard there. You might want check on their website.

  • Will my Unitor8 non USB Midi Interface work with Logic Pro 8 (MacOSX 10.5.8

I just purchased one of these Unitor8 gizmos, but have no way of connecting it with my Mac due to the absence of the USB connection on the MIDI interface. My question is....can I use a RS422 mini-din 8pin serial >>>to USB adapter converter, and will the OS and Logic recognize it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    John Bennett
Logic Pro 8, MacPro 8 core Xeon, M-Audio ProFire 2626.

The problem is not the reliability of the adapter (they're just fine), but that the Midi driver doesn't look for such an adapter. It won't work. The only chance to get your interface to work is to buy one of the emagic interfaces that came with both USB and RS port and to chain them up.
    Cheers,

    Pancenter,
Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tristan
    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

  • Does lion need updated drivers for M-Audi midi interface?

I'm using an M-Audio USB Midi interface with garageband (v 5.1) under Mac OS X 10.6.8. Could anyone confirm whether the snow leopard driver for this will continue to work with Lion?

No it will not. However M audio has posted a 10.7 compatible driver for their products on their forum. It works flawlessly with Lion, my MBP 13" 2011 w/8GB memory.

  • Satellite L40 139 and Midi interface

I have an Satellite L40-139 which includes a SoundMax sound card (somewhere inside) and I would like to be able to use it as the basis for a Midi Music recording set up but I cannot get the computer to recognize the Phonic Midi to USB interface that I have.
Does the SoundMax card accept Midi data and how do I go about getting it to recognize it?

    Hi Eldorado
    Thanks for your reply.
I want to connect my midi keyboard To my L40 139 laptop and use a software sequencer to create music tracks.. Not a difficult think for a computer to do!
I have a Phonic USB-Midi interface which is just a bog standard interface, but when I link it via the usb port the laptop says it doesn't recognise it and fail to load it. The end result is that I am unable to use the keyboard to input any midi data into the sequencer.
You are right in the fact that I am using Windows Vista OS but I have not found any Midi interfaces for Vista as yet, but as Midi is designed to be universal (I thought) I would have expected something from it.
    Thanks again

  • Intel Mac - MIDI Interfaces

    Hi Everyone -
Can anyone help me? I have 2 USB MIDI interfaces, both Emagic: an MT4 and an AMT8. Bot work with my PowerBook G4, but I've just bought an Intel Mac, and the drivers don't seem to work; the Intel doesn't recognise either of them. I desperately need a solution to hook them both together, so I can use the standalone versions of the plugins I've bought, NONE of which have yet been successfully ported over to work on the Intel.
    Yours, stranded....

    Hi,
I have the Unitor8mkii,and the first time I used my new intel macbook,it did give me some trouble. The only solution I had,was to unplug the Unitor, and then plug it in again.Apparently, the Mac's AudioMidi setup utility had lost communication with the Unitor. After re-plugging it,AMS saw it,and it has worked great since.I use the unitor8mkii for a Mackie MCU,a Line6 Pod,and an old roland JX3P keyboard, and a now obsolete Edirol PCR30 (not supported on Intel Macs, and discontinued as well)and they all are seen by Logic Pro.
hopefully all you have to do is re-connect the USB cable.Sometimes it gets loose from the Unitor side,so check both ends.

  • What's a good hardware set up for a solo musician? USB pedal USB keyboard audio interface MIDI interface?

I am new to Main Stage. I have not bought any hardware interfaces yet because I don't know what will be the most flexible in the long run. I would be using the Main Stage's innate synths and keyboards, drums, an acoustic/electric guitar, bass, harmonicas and vocals. What type of hardware would you recommend? MIDI/USB keyboards? MIDI interface? Audio interface? USB pedal board controllers?
Would guys help me with specific suggestions and pointer on how I can make a good choice based on my needs?
    much thanks!
    Fabio.

Then below this is the recording level slider which is all the way to the left or at 0. This is where the problem lies I think as this slider is greyed out and cannot be moved!
