USB Mouse, Keyboard not recognized in Windows

Hello,
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my late 2012 iMac, the installation seems to have gone well except that after running the Bootcamp setup program Windows restarted and now does not recognize any mouse/keyboard - USB mouse and keyboeard as well as Magic Trackpad/Bluetooth keyboard are unresponsive. They worked before the restart, and also work in Safe mode.
Has anyone had/fixed this issue, or can direct me to instructions to help? I've looked over the forum and not found same issue. I'm assuming any fix would have to work in Safe mode as I can't do anything in Normal mode!
USB port issue?
I'm also assuming I will have to separately fix the Trackpad/Apple Keyboard issue, but first just want to get basic USB devices working.
Thanks!

Good News: I got it working OK.  Not sure exactly what fixed it, but will list what was done differently in case it helps someone else.
1. Did a clean install from the Windows 7 Pro x64 disk I had purchased.  The first time I had used an ISO image downloaded from the Internet (not MS site) to create the thumb drive installer, per Bootcamp 4 instructions.
2. Updated the Windows install using MS Update.  I had to install some drivers I found on the Bootcamp disk I made the previous time.  Those drivers were anything relative to Network and WiFi, so I was able to access the Internet.  Before that I couldn't connect.
3. After the above, I repeated the download process that downloades the Windows support software for Bootcamp and made a new CD.
It worked.
I still find the service from Microsoft and even Apple to be an exercise polite but useless finger pointing.  Neither organization wanted to help me.  As with most tech support groups, the object is to get rid of the problem if possible by blaming someone else.  Imagine what might have happened if the Apple tech would have actually conferenced me on a call to Microsoft!  Tech support is non-existent for Bootcamp.
Drop a line to [email protected] if you need anything explained about the above.  Cheers.  -John

  • APPLE mouse & keyboard not working with Windows (Bootcamp)

I installed Leopard and Windows XP on my Mac Pro. The installation went very smoothly. Only problem I have is that my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse do not work on Windows (frozen) although they work fine on Leopard. I tried a Logitech wireless trackball and it works fine on both Windows and Leopard. Any suggestion?

Thanks. I upgraded from Tiger and downloaded Bootcamp from Leopard Installation disc ( I did not have a beta version ). I then installed Windows XP SP2 ( brand new, just bought for that purpose ). Wonder if Mac wireless keyboard and mouse are compatible with Window. Everything else work beyond my expectation.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 USB Razer Megalodon not recognized by windows!?

Hi guys, I recently just upgraded my PC and everything is okay except my USB Headphones are not recognized on this system oO I had to reinstall windows to get the motherboard to be compatible with my setup and after updating windows and looking up the problem, I haven't found an answer.
The Headphones work 100% sure because they worked on my old mobo and my laptop that is right next to me.
Says its an unknown device and has a ? next to it. Also these headphones use the Windows USB Generic Audio Driver but for some reason its not working.
Any help would be appreciated alot

Try the latest Bios: >>Beta BIOSes<<
I will check for a newer version as well right now.
    Edit: .141 is the latest.
Might want to check for a firmware update for the usb device as well.
Edit#2: Install the ram properly and see if that changes anything. Locking this topic as it is a duplicate.

  • USB Host Controller not recognized by Windows 7.

Just installed Windows 7 in a1130n desktop.  The USB Host Controller and the Std USB Host Controller are not recognized by the operating system.  The USB ports and the media memory ports on the front panel will not work.

My HP Z400 is suffering from the same problem. Did you discover a solution?

  • GPIB-USB-B device not recognized by Windows XP

I am using an HP Compaq nx9010 notebook with Windows XP Pro. When I plug in the the GPIB-USB-B, I get an error message telling me that 'The Device has not been Recognized'. I hjave followed all the instructions and have updated the bios and drivers of the notebook, but to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstaleld the drivers several times to no effect. I have also tried running the device on an older Windows 98 PC, but the interface is not recognized there either! Is it broken?

    Hi Andrew,
It's Pete from NIUK Tech. support department here. From what you've described it does sound like there may be something wrong with your product.
Firstly, I would just like to make a couple of checks to make sure. If it is broken, we can then organise for it to be repaired/replaced.
    1. Has the GPIB-USB-B ever been working. i.e. how long have you had it, was it working when you got and has since stopped working or has it never worked.
    2. Are you plugging in the GPIB-USB-B before the computer is switched on. This shouldn't actually matter as it is a plug and play device. It would just be useful to know if it works when you switch the computer on with the device plugged in.
    3. I know you've tried it on a couple of computers with differen
t operating systems, have you also tried different USB plug and play devices on the same USB port as your plugging this device into.
These questions are just to cover all the bases before we send it back to the factory for repair. If we do need to RMA the device then I will need to speak to you in person to get some more details. If and when this is needed, it would probably be easier for you to either give me your e-mail address or phone into the department and ask for me.
Anyway, if you get back to me with the answers to these questions then we can carry on from there.

  • Custom kernel (2.6.31) - USB Mouse & Keyboard not working [solved]

So I've just recompiled the new kernel (2.6.31) as a custom, as is my custom!
USB Mouse and keyboard no worky (but do as PS/2).
As a quick thing to check - what kernel .config settings haven't I enabled properly? A quick check though and everything SEEMS to be in order.
The stock 2.6.31 kernel works fine with the USB inputs.
    Thanks in advance.
[solved] I realised I was operating off an older kernel26 package (2.6.30), so synching abs and rebuilding using the 2.6.31 package and leaving a few more stock options enabled, seems to have worked.

sry, idk how to get the error output of a compiled package via mkpkg. i know its a weird error...
has anyone tryed to open my kerenel configuration with a graphical cofiguration font end, and to see if the 3945 wireless module is marked as module? when i do it its not aviable. maybe today ill find some time to do the config and compile...
    my arch: x86 ; core duo; pentium m (kernel-processor-type); -march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer
yeah, config from testing *.31 works fine, but the job needs to be done to strip out all useless stuff out of that general kernel

  • USB device not recognized in Windows 7?

I have the strangest problem I've yet to encounter with my computer.
As you may have guessed from the title, I am constantly getting the message displayed.  Any fix that has been suggested has been unhelpful or worked for a bit until my computer restarted again (I'll get to that)
First off it started when I noticed my mouse pointer was acting very weird, it was just a vertical line of dots.  A forum said an easy fix to the problem was to update my GPU drivers, which I needed to do anyway.  So after an update to the GPU drivers
I log into my computer (which is password protected, this is slightly important to remember) and I try to go to youtube.  I click down at the start menu to type in chrome and nothing appeared.  I was able to move the mouse around and click on things
but I was unable to type anything.
Luckily for me I have a laptop as well so I checked for any solutions on my laptop and they said that it was a problem with the model of my keyboard specifically  This was odd to me considering most of the problems happened OTB for the keyboard and not
a month after use, plus I was able to plug it into my laptop and it worked just fine.  When I plugged it back into my desktop it gave me the same problem: I couldn't type anything, I also noticed the little pop-up informing me that the USB device was
not recognized.  "Well, great, time to get my backup keyboard," I thought to myself.  Except, that was not the case either.  I plugged my backup keyboard into every single USB port on my Computer Tower, even going so far as to unplug
the mouse.  Absolutely nothing was working.  I constantly restarted my computer and each time got the same problem; I'm able to type in my password to log in and then a few minutes after that the USB device stops working.  Sometimes after plugging
one of the keyboards back into a USB port I would get a message saying it was installing drivers; and then would fail in installing any.
After a bit I navigate through the menus with just my mouse and do a system restore to before the GPU drivers were installed.  After that, I started windows in SafeMode and then turned my computer off.  Finally, I unplugged my computer completely
of all plugs (including my power plug), waited a few minutes, then plugged everything back in again.  Amazingly, this fixed the problem, but then it got worse.
After about an hour of gaming, my computer BSOD's, most likely because I decided to alt+tab out of Tomb Raider during a loading screen to stop a video I had on.  I restart my computer again, and then the problem returns, only this time absolutely
no USB devices work except my one keyboard.  The backup keyboard, and both my regular mouse and backup mouse stop working a few minutes after logging in.  I try to fix the problem like before, but to no avail.  Any USB device I plug in either
gives me the "USB device not recognized" or attempts to install the drivers and then fails.
If there is ANY way to fix this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

Try cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone. Use a magnifying glass to see what is stuck inside, a dry toothbrush and/or wood or plastic toothpicks (nothing metal). If that doesn't resolve the problem your phone is broken.

  • USB Device for IPOD not recognized by Windows, whether ipod connected or no

During the past few days I have received a pop up error message from (I would think) Windows that the USB device is not recognized. I have the USB plug for the ipod connected (as always)but the ipod isn't even connected. It keeps popping up like every few seconds that the usb device is not recognized.
When I attach the ipod itself, the ipod is recognizing it because it powers up. But, it took 10 times just to get the ipod to recognize through itunes. It updated, then immediately upon completion, windows again starting giving repeated error messages that the usb device wasn't recognized.
I have downloaded the newest itunes but I had it on my system for 4 days with no problems whatsoever. I don't think that's it. No other system changes.
I've deleted my temp files and cache. Also did a "disk clean up" and "defrag." It's still doing it.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. Ever since I upgraded to version 7, iTunes & my PC no longer recognise my iPod, and it therefore won't sync.
It's not the USB port (other devices work in it), I rebooted my iPod and re-installed iTunes, I've tried stopping and starting the iPod Service (but can't see my iPod in My Computer). When I run the Diagnostics it says iPod connection failed. I've even bought a new USB cable but that doesn't work either.
This is driving me up the wall. Is there a glitch with iTunes 7?
Can anyone help me out?? Thanks

  • USB Device not recognized by windows

When I first plugged my iPod into my computer, it went through the whole recognizing new hardware thing. Installed the drivers, then said that the new device was ready to use. But then I get a message that says "Device malfunction, device not recognized by windows" or something to that effect. I only have 3 days to return this iPod...anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not very familiar with the Windows OS but try this tip I picked on the forum up a while back, hopefully it might help.
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

    Hi azeripatriot,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that when you connect your passport drive it does not auto install.  Does the power  light on the passport drive come on?  What is the error message you receive?
Have you checked for any Windows updates?
You can run The HP Support Assistant to help with resolving issues and looking for updates.
If you believe it is a driver issue, you can download the software and drivers from the WD website. Here is the link WD download for passport drives.  If you  connect it to a different computer, does it install?  They also have a diagnostic tool for testing the drives.  Here is a link to their diagnostic tool .Western Digital Data Lifeguard diagnostics for Windows.
If this has not alleviated the issue, would you please provide your exact model of computer and the operating system you are running. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Would you also provide the exact error you get when connecting the passport.

  • "USB Hardware Not Recognized by Windows"

Please help. I keep getting an error mssage "USB Hardware not Recognized by Windows" I believe i have tried it all. Uninstalled Itunes. Reinstalled Itunes.
Okay I just tried pluggin it in as I typed this and it worked. The only thing I did diffrent was I unplugged my External Back-up drive.
Is this Common? Can anyone help explain this to me?

I have a combo floppy drive/USB 2.0 card reader and I believe I have the same problem.
I'm not over-clocking and while USB shows up in WinXP in device manager the card reader is not recognized by the system even though I KNOW I have it connected correctly.  The floppy works fine.
I believe the 4 USB ports on the mobo are non-functional but can't test it until Thursday sometime.
Hopefully this is correctable with a BIOs update.
Anyone else have issues with the USB ports on the mobo and if so, were you able to fix it?  How?

  • IPOD Not Recognized By Windows XP - The Solution!!!

    Hi folks,
I came across the solution to this problem over on the Microsoft website and it instantly cured my problems. Here are the steps:
The solution is to make sure you stop the usb device prior to unplug. not just ejecting from itunes but stopping the usb itself.
    How to fix
    - Turn off computer.
    - Plug ipod into usb
    - Then you must reset your ipod... don't worry it won't wipe anything out.To reset move the hold button ( on top of the ipod) once to hold then back to original position. Then press and hold the center button and the top menu button at the same time for 6 seconds.
    - Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
    - Your ipod will say do not unplug so don't.
    - Then open itunes and it will be there and you are good to go.
Just remeber to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it. stop it and select " apple ipod"
    enjoy!!!

In case it helps point to the solution, here are the steps I am taking and what I am seeing:
    1. Disconnect iPOD, toggle the hold button on/off and manually reset the device.
    2. Delete "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
    3. Uninstall iPOD and iTunes software.
    4. Reboot computer
    5. Install iPOD and iTUNES software
    6. Open iTUNES
    7. Run iPOD software - connect the iPOD when instructed to do so.
Windows finds unknown USB device - installs the driver and announces successful installation and hardware ready for use. :-)))
5-6 seconds later Windows announces USB device not recognized, that a device malfunction has occurred and am advised and Windows is unable to recognize it. :-(((
To Note: a. Assigning usbstore.inf as the driver for the the iPOD doesn't "take". The assignment ends without error message but going back and checking indicates no driver assigned to the device.
    b. USB mouse, keyboard and flash drive all work and are recognized by the system. I have not been using the flash drive with the ipod to avoid complications.
    c. I managed (once) to connect it with the iPOD software, have it recognized in iTunes and transferred music to the device. Unable to reconnect ever since.

  • USB flash drive not recognized by computer. Have tried all options of which I can think.

Okay.  I have a Patriot S-Mini 32GB flash drive that my Windows 8.1 HP Slimline 400-434 is not recognizing. I believe it recognized it once, and has refused to do so since. My laptop (Windows 7 Toshiba) recognizes it just fine.
All other USB devices function perfectly on this computer. USB mouse/keyboard/USB Hub/Apple iPhone cable.
    1. I have tried unplugging all other USB devices before trying this one. FAIL
    2. I have gone to Device Management and the USB drive does not appear in the list. FAIL
    3. I have uninstalled the USB Root Hubs and restarted the computer. FAIL
    4. I have tried plugging the USB drive into the rear ports that plug directly into the motherboard. FAIL
    5. I have updated the drivers, and have been unable to find a BIOS update as the link on the HP website downloads and says that it is incompatible for my computer. FAIL
...so what the bloody gorram heck do I do now?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Okay, and in the most ridiculous way I have ever solved a technical problem...
The USB flash cannot be inserted ALL the way into the port. It has to be inserted slowly, so that the contacts line up.
I figured this out by trying to connect it into my USB hub and noticing that the red indicator light was going on and off as I inserted the USB drive, flickering on as I inserted it and then off once it was all the way in.
Weird. But hey. It works now.

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?
