USB mouse single click results in a double-click

Been using a basic USB Dell mouse with my Macbook Pro for a long time.  Suddenly I'm finding that a left click is resulting in a double click some of the time, but not always.  It's system wide regardless of application. Thoughts?  Thank you!

Have you tried reinstalling the driver?

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches.

  • My wireless usb mouse freezes or gets stuck on right click/drag

My wireless usb mouse has been getting stuck on right click and/or drag, or the right click just freezes and becomes unusable. Sometimes, my mouse jumps erratically and opens anything that the arrow crosses. I can't use my trackpad because it's broken, but the trackpad itself isn't causing any problems. My system preferences for mouse and trackpad are all fine. My bluetooth is turned off in accordance with the recommendations of people having similar problems. My anti-virus programs don't detect a macro virus or any other problems. Only restarting in safe mode temporarily solves the problem. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Some people have suggested this may be caused by a swollen battery. However, my laptop is a somewhat more recent model and I don't have a portable/removable battery, so I can't solve the problem by taking it out and back in as some people have. Other suggestions?
    Thanks!

Update: I've also tried repairing permissions and that doesn't help.
I've experimented with other mouses just to see if there'd be a difference, but the problem is definitely with the computer. All plug-in or wireless mouses have the same results. Right click still won't work.

  • Wireless Mouse does not Open Folder when double clicking

Hi. I just upgraded my operating system on my iMac from OS 10.5.8 to Maverick Version 10.9.5. Prior to this, I used to be able to double click on the left key of the mouse to open a folder. The only option is to right click on the folder and select the open in new tab option from the drop down menu. I checked system preferences, mouse, and slowed down the speed to half. Unfortunately, I no longer have a double click to open or view option. Please help. Thank you.

Have you checked to see if your settings are still set correctly.   Go to Systems Prefs > Keyboard and Mouse > trackpad and see if the double click setting is (ideally) set midway along the slide.   If it isn't, move it there.

  • Trackball clicks not responding or double clicking sometimes

Hey guys, my 8900's trackball started acting funny lately. Sometimes when I click it does not register at all and I need to make a more deliberate click to register; or I press the trackball in and it double clicks.
My question is, if I purchase a trackball replacement should this fix the problem or is the problem more with the PCB board sensor? Rolling action in all directions is fine.

The problem is the trackball push-buton contact that sits underneath the trackball. It gets sticky and less efficient which causes the double-click affect. This contact isnt part of the trackball itself.
The good news is that the contact membrane (sometimes called the "dome") is replacable; is kinda an orangy film membrane sticker, and has a metal contact in the centre. Replacements are availble from ebay and other online stores.
There are youtube video guides that who youhow to replace the membrane - not all models are featured but the process is the same. You need to be confident in dissassembling your BB to get to the contact though.
I replaced mine on the my BB bold - problem solved.

  • How to handle both single click and double click from mouse

    hey,
I looked in past threads and didn't get a proper answer for capturing both single and double click from the mouse.
in most applications the single click action does not interfere with the double click action, for example in a text editor, single click sets the cursor in between the text, double click marks a word, triple click marks a sentence, they do not bother each other, they all can happen first the single then the double and then the triple, but what if i have a very distinct action for each of the actions, the e.getClickCount() returns every time the number of clicks and if i use
    if(e.getClickCount()==1)
        doSingleClick();
    if(e.getClickCount()==2)
doDoubleClick();it will always do first the single click and then the double click, which works fine with the example i gave, but not with what i want to do, so i was thinking to over come this that i will use another thread to run my tasks if dt has past since the last click and by the last click counts to perform the correct action and go to sleep until the next mouse click notify it, what do you think?
run this to get what i mean...
    package blah;

I have the same problem and it's really starting to annoy me since I started using this computer more frequently recently. I've owned it since new. It has done this off and on since I bought it. I only used it for travel so I just put up with it but now I'm using it for all E-mail to free up my primary desktop for other needs and this is starting to drive me crazy. The machine originally had Panther on it and when I migrated to Tiger I thought that might fix it. No such luck.
The problem is that quite often when I single-click on something, whether in the Finder or an Application, it registers as a double-click. It doesn't matter if I use the trackpad or a mouse, same problem.
I've tried different "Keyboard and Mouse" settings in System Prefs and nothing makes any difference. I've tried the PMU reset too. No change. I've tried it with the mouse disconnected and I've tried it with two different mice. No improvement. I've even tried it with green eggs and ham but the problem persists!
I've never had this issue with ANY other Mac I currently own (3 others) or have owned in the past (many since 1985). My only speculation is that MAYBE the humidity/static in my environment has something to do with it. I've never noticed an exact correlation but it SEEMS that perhaps I may be having this problem more often when the climate is dry. Possible?
Has anyone found a definitive cause/solution for this issue? Thanks!
    Mike

Glad that worked for you Sup3rL4m3r but I suspect we have different issues. I have no problems with anything except single-clicks and click-drags registering as double clicks with either the trackpad or mouse. I have no issues with my "wallpaper" or with erratic cursor issues, or with anything else. When I upgraded to Tiger as indicated in the original post, I did an archive and install but it did nothing to mitigate the problem.
This seems to possibly be a somewhat common problem based on previous posts I've read on it but I suspect that the lack of any solutions suggests it is a design flaw of some sort that has no solution. Perhaps it is not prolific enough to get any attention. Darned shame since this machine has otherwise been flawless. Kind of like buying a new car that has a hesitation on acceleration that you can't get rid of. Most annoying.

  • MOUSE DOUBLE CLICKING

I have an hp mouse...however it says product of china on the back..It does look like an hp mouse though..
    Anyhow..it's doubleclicking..it's driving me crazy..
I've had the mouse for a few years..
    It just starting doing this..
    I"m running XP
It is a USB..with a red light under it...with an optical eye?...Not sure if that's what they call it..
Please help..Are there drivers I can use to fix this...
I"m not sure if a windows update..might have done this..
    Many thanks..

    Hi kittylondon,
I understand your mouse is acting like you are double-clicking even though you are only clicking. Take a look at the following, Troubleshoot mouse double-clicking when you single-click. The document also applies to Windows 7 and Windows Vista, so you will have to make sure you are referencing only the portions that apply to Windows XP. I hope this is of help to you. Best of luck. Have a wonderful day.

  • On all my other apps and browsers, I have my system set up to open things with a doubleclick. In Firefox, however, a single click opens things, and it's very annoying since I wind up with duplicate pages -- where can I change this option to double-click?

I think my question explains my issue, but I particularly have this issue on www.pogo.com when I try to open a game room. The system tells me someone else with my user name is trying to enter the room at the same time, so it boots us both out. I have contacted Pogo, and they tell me it's a Firefox issue. There must be an option somewhere, like a OS has, to pick between single and double clicks to open an app, but I can't find it in Firefox. My mouse is set in XP for double-click.

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your reply.
    My original feed is: http://casa-egypt.com/feed/
However, because I modified the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast and nothing changed, I redirected it to another feed and then I deleted this feed.
Is there any way to change the feed in itunes? The only feed I have now is  http://feeds.feedburner.com/CasaEgyptStation
I tried to restore the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast but feedburner refused.
I know that I missed things up but I still have hope in working things out.
    Thanks is advance.

  • Double Click / Single click problem

Recently i have been noticing when i single click, using either my magic mouse or trackpad i end up getting a double click, even when my double click is set to as slow as possible.
Is there anything that can be done to stop this, as this makes many of the menu's in photoshop un usable as well as the dashboard calculator :'(

My Mother-In-Laws computer (iMac 2GHz- Snow Leopard with current updates) is acting this way also. In her case, she had a Logictec wireless mouse hooked up with the receiver in the keyboard. She has noticed the single click as a double click in Mail and another program (can't remember the other). Suggested that she go back to the original apple mouse and see if it still acted the same way. I'm on the computer now and have been able to recreate the problem with the Apple mouse. Her mouse click setting was all the way to "low". Moved the setting to the middle and didn't see much of a difference. Maybe slightly more instances of double-clicks.
I have two other macs(my Mac Pro and another iMac) I use on a regular basis and have not seen this problem. But they are also behind on Snow Leopard OS updates. I'm guessing this is an internal problem Apple will have to fix.

  • Leopard Registering Single Clicks as Double Clicks

I have a terrible problem under 10.5.1 with the system registering about 40% of my single clicks as double clicks. It seems to be getting worse, as well. I thought it was an issue with the mouse on my Wacom tablet or with the Wacom driver, but in trying to troubleshoot it I found I had the same problem when using my original Apple mouse.
It's extremely problematic. For example, I've customized my Finder toolbar to include the delete icon. However, if I click the delete icon and the system registers it as a double click, it will delete not only the file I intended, but it's parent directory. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same problem. I have concluded that it is a software problem either with OS X or some third party software on the computer.
I originally thought it was a problem with Logitech's control center as that was the mouse I was having problems with. However, I recently replaced that mouse and uninstalled the logitech software and am still having problems with my new mouse from a different vendor. All the while, the trackpad will still register single clicks as double clicks.
In my observations I found that once I restart the computer, single clicks will be registered as normal for the first few minutes of computer use. After that, any time the mouse is clicked more than once without being moved, no matter how much time has passed, it will register the subsequent clicks as double/triple/etc. clicks. So if, for example, I were to click an application icon once, not move the mouse, come back a day later and click again, it will double click. I also found that if the mouse is moved ever so slightly, it might still register as a double click.
Additionally, if I am scrolling through any window but don't move the mouse, it will register the subsequent clicks as double clicks, even when you are clicking on a different item. An example of this is if I am scrolling down a finder window with a lot of files in column view, click on a file to see it's icon preview, then scroll down without moving the mouse and click on another file, it will register as a double click and launch that item.
Other observations: I was having this problem in the early days of my OS install, so I went ahead and reinstalled the system. The problem came back in a day or so and I can't pinpoint it to any one piece of software that has been installed. I'm wondering if it is an OS issue.

  • Can't open folders or emails by double clicking mouse

I can't open folders or emails by double clicking my mouse. I was using a corded Apple mouse, so I switched to a Logitech cordless optical mouse, still can't open them. I can open my folder with command O, but not email. Any suggestions?

This worked for me: I trashed my mouse prefs, then restarted, then -- goto System Prefs --> Keyboard/Mouse --> Mouse --> Double-Click Speed: Now move the speed a minimum of one notch below FAST.
Yesterday I installed a Logitech MX Revolution, cordless mouse and lost the ability to double click with it and with my Mighty Mouse. Resetting the double click speed below FAST miraculously reset.
    All seems OK now.

  • Mouse cannot open file with double click

    Hi all,
    Presently using latest iMac.
my files or folders on the desktop does not open with 2 left clicks. But it does if from the dock. However It will open only when I right click and mouse over to 'open' from the pull down menu. What setting did i not do correctly ?
    F. Matt

You can look in System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad and check/adjust the double-click speed there, too.
If that doesn't help, I'd suggest you test for the same issue (the apparent inability to double-click) with another mouse.

You need the combination of a client listener, a Javascript function and a server listener.
Frank Nimphius has provided a comprehensive example here.
