USB net stick will not work and not recognized by brand new macbook pro lion
Hi and thank you to anyone that can help!
I just bought a new macbook pro with OX 10.7 Lion the other day. I have an Alcatel x220 USB internet net stick that I used to use with my previous computer with Windows 7.
When I insert the usb stick, the setup driver is supposed to come up, so I can install it on the Macbook. But nothing comes up, and the macbook does not even recognize that I have inserted the net stick.
I also downloaded the program, and the drivers, and still nothing. The apple people tried fixing it for a few hours today, and they can't figure it out either. Same with the cell phone company that provides me with the net stick. No one has any idea how to fix it.
Basically, anyone have any idea how to get the USB net stick Alcatel x220 to work with a new macbook pro OS Lion 10.7?!?!?!?!? This is driving me crazy, and I would really appreciate anyones' help! Thank you!!
Daniel
thanks I appreciate your response. Yeah I read something about the 64 bit problem. I found this link and at the bottom there is a driver update or something to make it work with 64 bit. But I can't seem to get it to work right, and even could the apple tech people. This is the link: http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/products/mobile_broadband/ot-x220.html
Also, do you have any idea which USB sticks there are that are compatible with the 64 bit Lion?
Thanks again

It will not play on my new Macbook Pro since I put it into the movies section of my launchpad. When it was on the desktop It worked fine. I moved it back to the desktop and it still does not work.
The error message says The document " .avi" could not be opened.
A required codec is not available.Download VLC Media Player which plays anything you throw at it and Perian (AVI and FLV support).

Photoshop elements 10 will not migrate to my new macbook pro/retina display. There is no CD/DVD player on this machine. Any suggestions on how to get Elements onto my machine? Yes, I have the disk(s). Am I going to have to buy an external CD/DVD player to load this one program:(
I have ordered a USB3 BluRay/DVD/CD player/burner and will use that both with my iMac ( in which the Superdrive seems to be failing ) and the MBPro Retina I just bought .

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and for some reason applications, in particular iCal, seem to quit unexpextedly all the time. Not sure why but I am using iCal for both iCloud and Google Apps for my business.
Anyone else having this issue or have some solutions I could try?
Thanks!ds store is right: the machine is obviously faulty. Tell them about the card reader problem and get the machine exchanged. Don't let them fob you off with a service. I had a problem with the DVD drive, the trackpad and the card reader in the first year of my 2009 MBP and each time I let them get away with 'servicing' until the Warranty ran out, and I now have to use a cable for the camera, can only use 'tap' (not click) on the trackpad and have to use an external DVD writer.
Like you, I'd had a previous Apple laptop (2004 iBook) that could take a direct hit from a Scud missile and still function perfectly (indeed, its still going now) , so I was not as insistent as I should have been.
Apple machines are great, but every now and again you get a dud. -
Please help me find a solution to my new MacBook Pro not recognizing my hard drives. Yes, thats two hard drives I have that don't seem to work on this computer but both work on my older MacBook and many other computers.
It is formatted for both PC and Mac
I have tried finding it in Disk Utility, no dice...
Tried both USB Ports
And a reboot is still unsuccessful.. -
Elements 4 will not install on my new MacBook Pro
Bought Elements 4 in 2007 for my previous Power Mac and now just upgraded to a Macbook Pro and the program won't install .
Get the message that this version no longer supported for new the Intel Chip Macs. I know the version is old but worked perfectly well for my purposes.
So do I just chuck that money away and fork out for another proggie? What is the next version?
ThanksYes, you need a new version, one written for intel macs. PSE 6 is the very oldest than can be coaxed to work in 10.8, but PSE 11 is the current version. But then August is usually not a smart month for buying PSE.

ITunes will not load to my new MacBook Pro
Transferred everything from MacBook to new MacBook Pro. Everything is working except iTunes. Restarting, disinstalling, and reinstalling makes no difference as iTunes starts checking the iTune library and then displays the message "iTunes quit unexpectedly" allowing you to send a report to Apple.

how did you do that ?
i've found the most successful method to transfer an iTunes library from one Mac to another is this:
connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).

your profile suggests you're on 10.6.3. if that's the case, i suggest you do this:
(a) download the [_*Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo)*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1048]
(b) repair permissions using *disk utility* and reboot your Mac into _*safe mode*_
(c) run the combo while in *safe mode*.
(d) when the updater is done, let your Mac reboot normally
(e) repair permissions again
please post back with results !

Lexmark s300 will not print wirelessly on new macbook pro
Hi
I have recently purchased my first mac - macbook pro and i cannot get the printer to print wirelessly. The printer is connected to the router and will talk to my old laptop but i cannot get the mac to do the same.
It finds the printer ok but will not send anything to it. I have downloaded new drivers etc and nothing seems to be working.
Any suggestions? I have tried lexmarks website and mac and still no joy.
ThanksI get the same error message ("/Library/Printers/Lexmark/Drivers/LexmarkCUPSDriver.app/Contents/MacOS/Lexmar kCUPSDriver failed") when I try to print on my LEXMARK S605 since I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (on iMac IntelCore2Duo, 2006).
I updated the system up to 10.6.4, I upgraded the printer firmware, I updated the Lexmark drivers downloading them from Lexmark website.... still have the same bug.
I wish someone will find a solution for us. Thank you in advance for your advices. -

The following message appears:
"Check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
I've reinstalled Aperture twice, and installed all available updates, but this message continues to pop up.Hi,
I didn't upgrade to Mountain Lion - since I got my computer yesterday it came pre-installed. Though I did in stall Final Cut Express (version 4 i think). Also, I purchased Aperture in September 2011, so I don't think it is Aperture 2?

Afer spending an hour on the phone with apple support center and not being able to correct this problem... I finally got it working after talking with a friend! So for those who have the same problem, the solution was in the end quite simple! Un plug the APE and plug it back in while pressing the reset button. Then connent the APE to your computor via a usb cable. The computor will then recognise the APE and you will be able to configurate for your liking! It can the be unplugged and placed where you want it to go in the house as the computor will now recognise it! I guess it was just to simple a solution for the help center to think about it! good lick to all!!
While I appreciate you trying to help, I'm not a fan of being talked to like a child. If you want to see what version of iOS X I'm using, look no further than the title of my question (10.7.5, there, I saved you having to scroll up).
Yes I read what you saying IOS and I thought you made a mistake because Mac operating system is called OSX and not IOS.
Now, I can only assume that your next idea is for me to restart my computer and/or try a different cable. Let's pretend I'm not a complete moron and continue from beyond those steps.
Well, my next idea would be figure it out yourself, if you think answering question is below you. -
Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?
I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

New Time Capsule will not back up my 2009 MacBook Pro. I can see and find my last back before Mavericks but cannot backup. The TC will not allow me to delete or start a new backup disk. My 2024 MacBook Air did the same yesterday but today it backs up.
Seems to be working now. I left the MacBook on all morning trying to back up and now works.

Brand new Macbook Pro not pairing with Apple Keyboard and mouse!
Hi all, I have a brand new Macbook Pro and an older wireless Apple Keyboard and Mouse (that were being previously used with my imac G5).
Now I want to use these for this macbook. I am finding that they are being recognised but not pairing up?
Do you need to stop the previous pairing with the imac before they will pair with the Macbook?
Or do I need to update specific software? (I would have thought it has all the necessary updates already installed).
I am running Snow leopard.
I have brand new batteries in the keyboard and mouse.
I really appreciate any helpful advice. Sorry if the answer is obvious!
ThanksHi there, i had a problem pairing an Apple wireless keyboard with my MacBook pro but managed to solve it.
The default passkey option in Bluetooth setup assistant is 'automatic' which will (if the MacBook can 'see' the keyboard in the first instance) then say something like 'your device may prompt you to enter the following passcode 1234 5678'
Obviously the keyboard doesn't provide any feedback - I went ahead and typed the number and hit the return key a number of times - the MacBook then displayed a 'pairing failed - you may have entered the incorrect passkey' message.
What i was doing wrong was keying only numbers - when i keyed 1234[SPACE]5678 + RETURN pairing worked.
I had thought the 'gap' in the passcode was to make it easier to read, not that it implied a space in the passcode.
Hope that helps.

Setting up my brand new MacBook Pro and it will not connect to the wifi network. Nothing wrong with the network which is happily working for my iPhone and iPad! Suggestions accepted for making this connection.
Fixing this is a two step process:
1) System preferences > WiFi/Airport ...
... check [√] Ask to join new networks
"Known networks will be joined automatically.
If no known networks are available, you will
be asked before joining a new network."
2) Remove unwanted networks from the list of "known" networks under
System preferences > WiFi/Airport > (Advanced) > | Airport/WiFi pane ...
Close the window and save changes. If no joy, do a restart to ensure you are playing under the new rules.
