USB not found on Macbook Pro

Hi,
I was trying to move files on my usb and all of a sudden it disappear - now I cannot find it. I use a Macbook Pro. It used to show under "device" but now it doesn't. How can I locate it? I have files that I need to work on but the usb doesn't show up. I tried to take it off and re-inserted it but still it doesn't show up as before? Could I be loosing all my files in the usb? Please help!

Don't worry, you are probably not loosing any of the files in your USB. If you have another computer around which can use USBs, try putting in that other computer to see if it works. If it won't work in both computers, the problem is probably with the USB itself, and not your Macbook pro. Otherwise, try restarting your computer, or try holding the USB inserted tightly. I used to have a problem where my USB would barely fit, and sometimes it would slip out.

I have a lacie 2tb external hard drive.. It started disconnecting itself randomly. I purchased a new cable for it. The problem stopped for a short time.. then it started up, and now the hard drive won't appear on my macbook pro. Ive tried disk utility initially it was there.. but now its no where to be found. the people at lacie seem to think the drive has failed.. Any ideas?

Hard drives can fail at any time... but, as I said, it could be that the SATA controller in the enclosure has gone belly-up. You should be able to take the drive to a standard computer repair shop and see if they can remove the drive from the enclosure, put it in a dock and see if the drive is mountable. It's a 50/50 chance but it shouldn't cost much and should be the first step before taking the unit into a more expensive data recovery facility.

I would do another SMC reset. If nothing changes you should take the computer in to an Apple store for a free diagnostic. You should make an appointment.

Garagekey USB keyboard works with MacBook Pro, but not with 27" iMac

Just got a brandnew 27" iMac. The Garagekey USB keyboard doesn't work. It's recognized in systemProfiler, Audio-Midi Setup, GarageBand and Logic. But no Midi is coming in. When I plug it into my MacBook Pro, it works immediately. I know the Garagekey doesn't work with some 3rd party USB hubs, maybe for lack of enough power, but it works always at the internal USB hubs with the MacBook Pro. Why doesn't it with the 27" iMac? I'm cueless...
The IMac Systemprofiler says: Current Available (mA) 500, Current Required (mA) 300. So I guess, it can't be a power problem?

Have the same problem with Logic Pro. Works on my old Mac Mini but not on the new iMac 27" i5. Apple told me that it is a difference between the boards they used on the two computers. They said that even if I got a new mac mini I would run into the same problem. they recommended that I upgrade my mini, or try another piece of hardware to connect the two. Looking for hardware now. I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.

Install the Windows support software from the USB drive. Note that Boot Camp Assistant, in OS X 10.8.3, doesn't support the option to burn the Windows support software into a disc.
Instead, you can try a different thing. Start in Windows and download the Windows support software in it > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Then, decompress the file and run the Boot Camp drivers installer.
If you can't access to the Internet in Windows, start in OS X and download the Windows support software from the same link. Decompress the file, right-click the folder which will show up after decompressing the file and select "Burn". Finally, start in Windows and install the Boot Camp drivers

Have you checked the Sound Preferences under the System Preferences and set it to USB speaker for the sound output? Sometimes it can change on its own or after and update of an App or the OS?

I can not boot my MacBook Pro running on Lion 10.7.4. I pressed control, comment P and R keys and O got to the disk utility, then I tried to repair disk and it can not be repaired. I get a message that tells me to back up as much data as possible ?. But if I can not open the computer how can I save my data??

If it were me, I'd get a new hard drive or SSD and put it in an external enclosure. Boot into the recovery partition, format the new drive (not the old one) and install the OS to it. Shut down the Mac, open it up, and swap the drives. You may be able to read your data from the old one externally if you're lucky. If you're very lucky you may be able to use Migration Assistant to move all your stuff to the new drive.
Look at ifixit.com for the exact procedure to get to the drive on your model. If it's a unibody it's pretty simple.
