USB optical mouse won't work in PS/2 port

I have a lenovo USB optical wheel mouse that I want to plug into the PS/2 mouse port (I need to free up the USB port for something else).  I have a green USB to PS/2 adaptor that works fine with a borrowed logitech USB mouse and also works fine with a microsoft USB mouse.  Any ideas why it won't work with a lenovo (or IBM) USB mouse?
My system is a ThinkCentre M51 type 1843-wnv running win xp pro.  Have 2.5 GB DDR RAM and an ATI Radeon 4550 in the PCIe 2 slot.  HDD is a WD Caviar Black 500 GB with 32 cache.
Thanks!

No, however, I've encountered similar issues with mice and keyboards using USB -> PS/2 adapters.
I'd suggest another solution: A simple USB hub. No external power is necessary for mice and keyboards so you can use whatever hub is least expensive. A hub will also provide you with extra USB ports that you can use with other devices. You can never be too rich or too thin or have too many USB ports

  • Usb optical mouse doesn't work on MacBook Air

Hi, I need a mouse for my MBA but I only found a cheap USB optical mouse that i've used several times on my pc and worked perfectly fine, I tried using it on my MBA but it doesn't work. I searched in system information to see if at least the mouse is detected and surprisingly it is detected. The mouse has no brand and i don't think it needs any type of driver.  What should i do?
I have a MacBook Air mid-2012 running Mountain Lion.

You need at least a decent bluetooth mouse.
Best option of course is the Apple Magic Mouse.  $69

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Kindly sugest me the what to do

    Hello rajeevkumar30
As I understand it you reinstalled Windows XP and now you have devices that are not being installed correctly? I would suggest that you visit the Compaq Presario V2000 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page and ensure that ALL your drivers and software are up to date. I would start with any BIOS and Firmware updates first than ensure your Drivers are up to date before moving on to your software.
As these are the drivers designed for your system this should resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Well, there is no big deal about USB mouse, it's plug and play.If your mouse doesn't work at all, then its broken, or it's not compatible with mac. Test it in a PC.

  • Bluetooth mouse won't work in windows

I have a microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000 that works well in mac osx but when I go to windows 7 in bootcamp it reports that the bluetooth hid device driver is not working and the mouse won't work.
I can get it to detect the mouse and try to load the driver but then it says that the driver installation did not work.
In device manager the bluetooth hid device has a warning icon next to it and it says that the device is not working.
When I try to use my magic mouse in windows the same error happens and it says that the hid bluetooth device driver is not working.
Both mice work fine in mac osx and the microsoft mouse was working ok in windows until last week.
Since then, my son installed a couple of games in the windows side and the mouse started acting up the following day.
Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi!
I suffered this problem time and time again, I kept on pairing/un-pairing/re-pairing etc. and then for no reason at all it suddenly worked. What happened I do not know. Be patient. First off use a wired keyboard and wireless mouse and if that works stay with it for a while. Then try both wireless. I found my mouse was more temperamental than the keyboard. You may have to try wireless keyboard and wired mouse (USB into the computer direct).
Good luck let me know how it goes.

  • Installed Windows 7 on bootcamp but now my wireless mouse won't work when in windows. What can I do?

Installed Windows 7 on bootcamp but now my wireless mouse won't work when in windows. What can I do?

assuming it is an optical mouse (no ball etc.) then there aren't any moving parts involve in the motion detection
so there's a faulty component or connection
from what you describe it could be just a loose/broken connection, so if you know someone familiar with electronics see if they can open it up and have a look

  • Loaded iTunes 9, now mouse won't work

Interesting. I updated iTunes 9 via the "Check for updates" menu option. Installation was clean and green - no errors, no freezing or hanging, clean reboot.
Upon restart, the mouse won't work. Standard ps/2 for a Dell PC, no problems before now, etc. Rebooted again. Mouse doesn't work.
What gives? Anyone have this problem? Sounds like a resource conflict, but those are so rare in recent years I find that possibility surprising.

When the system was restarted, my iPod was plugged in. Normally, this isn't a big deal, but as a troubleshooting step, I unplugged the 'pod, rebooted and got mouse functionality back.
Just to test it, I then plugged the 'pod back in, and everything still worked. The next test would be to plug the 'pod back in and reboot just to see if I lose the mouse again, but I'm happy enough to move on.

  • My magic mouse won't work.

I got a low battery warning yesterday & went to change then today. Well, one of the batteries had exploded. I cleaned the area as best I could (it even ate through the cover) but the mouse won't work with the new batteries. Did the acid "kill" my mouse or is it just time to replace it? I got the Magic Mouse right after they came out.

I already cleaned the contacts before I posted. I would think my Magic mouse would last longer than a couple years. I am going to take the remaining package of batteries back to Costco as they are supposedly good to 2016. I will take the magic mouse too so they can see the damage. Now, If I can only get my bluetooth "Mighty Mouse" to pare with my iMac I would be happy. Good thing I have my laptop!

  • Since I updated to Yosemite my mouse won't work when I turn on, unless I unplug it and put it in again

Thanks Eric...a few other things have happened too...still working on them, I like the change just updating and figuring out why I might have some other problems...thånks again

  • Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7 anymore

    Hey there,
I've got an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I just updated a bunch of the Apple stuff on Windows -- iTunes, Quicktime, "boot camp" (I assume that meant drivers and such), and whatnot. Now my Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7. It was fine before, so I assume the update screwed something up. Help? I know nothing of retrieving old drivers and stuff like that.
Note: I am running Snow Leopard, NOT Lion.

    Hi bsruff,

  • 3rd party USB mouse won't work with G4 iBook 10.3.9

3rd party USB mouse (see specs below)won't work with G4 iBook 10.3.9.
    http://www.inland-products.com/singleproduct.asp?search=usb&partnum=07340-SpecR
I notice the specs say this mouse works with windows(no mention of Mac) yet the guy where I bought it assured me it would work fine with a Mac. The keyboard/mouse preferences shows a muouse but there is no movement or response from mouse. I would assume it was not reading it if not from appearance of "mouse" preference. I also have intalled UBBoverdrive in hopes that that might help but device/mouse menue does not appear to support mouse.
Is there a way to get this to work or should I just return it to the vendor?
Can anyone suggest a good CHEAP 3n button mouse for Mac?

The name of that mouse is deceiving. It is not a USB mouse it is a wireless mouse. Unfortunately without the proper OS X drivers for the USB/wireless adapter you won't be able to get that thing to work.
If you are looking for an inexpensive USB mouse, checkout the Kensington Mouse in a Box Optical.
Does your iBook have Bluetooth? If so take a look at the Kensington PilotMouse Mini Bluetooth Mouse. I have one of these and it works great.

  • My usb mouse won't work

I moved my old desktop with USB mouse and when I plugged everything back in the mouse has solid red light and won't work. Any idea what I can do?

The pre-1998 Macs this forum covers do not have USB and few can be retrofitted to have it, so I believe you have a newer Mac that has its own more-active forum section. Can you give us more details about your model? People will need to know your model and Mac OS software version to answer anyway.

  • USB Mouse won't work on Macbook?

I have a usb mouse that I've been using for a couple months now. I know it works because my boyfriend was just using it on his computer last night. I just got a new macbook, came in the mail yesterday. When I plug it in the mouse doesn't move or click period. I went to system preferences and it finds the mouse, but the mouse won't move. I've tried restarting, unplugging-plugging into a different port. Please tell me this isn't something wrong with my new computer. I need it for school and school starts next week.
    Thanks in advanced.

What mouse? What computer and operating system? You say in your post that you have a "macbook"; this is a MacBook Pro forum.
Did you go to the mouse manufacturer's site and download and install the usb mouse drivers for your operating system?

  • External Mouse Won't Work

Whenever I plug in an external mouse via USB, it never works. I have tried Apple mouses and non-Apple mouses but none of them work. The only mouse I can get to work is my Apple wireless mouse via bluetooth. And I have tested the USB ports with USB drives and the USB ports do work properly. Just mouses that won't work. I have rebooted into the boot menu and the mouse works there but not in Mac OS X which is why I think it's a software issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Make a new account and see if the mouse works in that account. If it does, go to /Users/(yourusername)/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist. Don't see why it shouldn't work.
