  • New Saved files not Showing up in finder

When I save a new file, since updating to 10.5.4; new files will not show up in the folder it was saved in, until I close it and then reopen it. I have already performed a fix disk permissions with idisk and ran MacJanitor
Is this a known problem with leopard 10.5.4 I could not find it discussed in the forum.

I Ran Macjanitor - all tasks, I ran the disk utility on my boot disk. Nothing I did fixed the problem. But for some reason - when I booted up today the problem is gone. I thought I had rebooted yesterday as well - but I am unsure about that. So right now the problem is not showing up. I hope it does not come back. How do you mark this when it just went away and you are not sure it will come back or not.

  • ProRes files not showing properly in finder?

    Greetings,
Normally when importing regular HD footage (FCP), the clips show up in finder and I'm able to preview them using quicktime.
Since switching to ProRes, the clips are not associated anymore with quicktime and cannot be previewed. Has anybody else ran into this? If so, is there a workaround?
I'd like to be able to pull these clips from finder and use them in other apps (motion, etc...)
    Thanks in advance,
    -Jeff

Thanks for the quick replies, here's what I'm doing:
Importing via firewire from my HV30 directly into FCP using ProRes422 as my sequence preset (device control is HDV FW basic). That all works fine.
When I locate the clips (reveal in finder), the clips have no extension to them. I've actually tried adding a *.mov extension to the file, and it opens quicktime, but nothing will play.
All this is being done on the same macbook.

  • Files not showing up in Finder with CD/DVD

    anyone ever run across this?
i've burned a dvd with files on it, then mount it and it shows nothing is on the DVD in the finder. if i eject and re-insert the DVD then the files show up.
i even had it happen where i put in a DVD that had 2 files on it. they appeared, but then when i went to look at them later they were gone! just disappearing

Yes, this happens to me too. A friend gave me a DVD with some home movies on it. I can play it on my iMac, but I can't see the files in finder. I had hoped to be able to import the files into iMovie, but there are no files to select when I try to do this. I'm able to see the files on my PC at work, just not on my iMac.
I'm able to put a new blank disk into my iMac and see it/burn files to it. No idea how to make the files visible on the other DVD and import them. I also notice that when I insert the disk it appears on my desktop as a folder with a red minus sign on it instead of a picture of a DVD like the others when I insert them.
    Puzzled??

  • Files not showing up in Finder

    Hello guys!
Recently my Finder has started behaving strangely. Sometimes when i save a file to the desktop (most often when I download something with Safari) it just doesnt show up in the Finder. Then I have to move the file around using the Terminal, wait for about half an hour, or simply restart my computer. If a file downloaded by Safari doesn't show up in the Finder I can click the revealing button and the file shows up.
That is pretty annoying, is that a known bug with 10.4.8 or is this a problem only I have?

Try repairing your disk permissions in Disk Utility.

  • Files not showing up on external Drive

I'm having this really strange and irritating issue with my external hard drive in 10.5.
I use a folder named "incoming" on an external usb HDD for all my miscellaneous downloaded files, but for some reason, when the transfer completes in the download application, the new files don't appear there. Similarly, when I unzip or create new files on this drive, they'll inevitably either disappear, or folders will appear empty.
Even stranger, I can actually see all these files and use them like normal if I open my external drive by typing "open /Volumes/Storage" in Terminal, but if I browse through Finder, half are missing.
I was using this drive in Tiger with no issues, it's HFS+ formatted and I've tried running Verify/Repair in Disk Utility to no avail.
UPDATE: Upon looking at the mount point of the drive in finder, it says it's mounted at "/Volumes/Storage 1". When I open that mount point in Terminal I can only see some of the files, but when I open "/Volumes/Storage" I can see all the files.

I have a customer also reporting this same issue with files copied to an external RAID not showing up in Finder, since the 10.5.2 update / Leopard Graphics 1.0 updates. Zapping PRAM fixed the problem temporarily but after a day it's come back. [This is only one of four identical iMacs updated in the same manner that is showing the problem].

  • HT4101 I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to down photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please.

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Look at this link for convertion the .mod format.

  • File not showing in SharePoint (IE) but visible in Explorer

I have a document library that has a single file not showing up that I can't seem to track down.  I am hoping someone here might be able to offer something I haven't thought of.
The document library is very much 'stock'.  Verisioning is turned on and minor revisions aren't viewable to folks without edit rights.  I am the admin with full control to everything - as is the user this initially impacted. The file will show
in the Explorer view - but isn't viewable in an 'all files' file via the browser or when attempting to open via Excel.   If we provide the full path/file it does open successfully in Excel and offer the Check Out option - but it won't show up
    in the 'File Open' dialog.
I thought at first it might be a matter of not having a version checked in - but it isn't showing under "Manage files which have no checked in version" menu.   I've gone through the various SharePoint view options and can't find anything there either.
What would make a single Excel file in such an ordinary document library not be visible to users with full control rights?  We have roughly 80k files stored in SharePoint overall - so please don't read this as being our initial test of SharePoint.
    I'd really appreciate any ideas...
    -Troy

Just to add a few more details. I have been able to add the file to a different library and they uploaded fine. The library in question is created off of a template and has 2 metadata fields. The fields are also being used in the other library, but that
was created from a different template.
The site and initial 4 libraries were created from a site template and then the library was added from a different library template. Checking ULS logs now, but doubtful I will find anything.

  • IPhoto files not showing up in list

I have many photos on my new MacBook Pro, but when I try to "attach" them to emails, they are not showing up in the listing. I am a new Mac user, but so I don't know how to explain this. If this was a PC, it would be like files not showing up under "My Computer." PhotoBooth photos are listed though. Why is this?

Then something has happened to the permission and or attribute settings on your folders to mark files saved in them as hidden.
Try this Terminal command to show all files and you can turn it off by changing the true to false at the end of the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
If you then see your files tere is a problem with files being market as hidden when they are saved. Create a New Folder in the Root of the drive and look at its Get Info window and post a screen shot of it in this thread.

  • IMovie files not showing up on iCloud Drive

I have uploaded several iMovies from my Mac (Yosemite OS) and they are accessible on my iPad and Apple TV.  Yet, the iMovie file on the iCloud Drive is empty.  Where are they stored?

  • Windows Vista Computer not showing up in finder

Hi, my WIndows Vista computer is not showing up in finder under Shared. I can connect to my PC from my mac by clicking on finder, go, connect to server and typing in the PC's IP Address, Username and Password. I can also see my Mac computer from my PC running Windows Vista.
What's weird is that it was showing up for awhile but I recently changed my network key and unchecked file sharing on both my Mac and PC.
Afterwards I re-enabled file sharing on both my mac and Vista computer but my PC won't show up in finder.
I can connect to my PC and see the computer in finder but when I click eject, it disappears. I would like it to remain in finder. Is there some setting that I need to enable? Please help

Assuming that the missing machine is part of the same Workgroup/Domain:
Open Terminal and enter "nmblookup -M workgroupname" (without the quotes, and replacing workgroupname with the name of your workgroup or domain.
This will list the IP address of the machine that is the "master browser" of your network. If you are on a domain, the address should be that of your domain controller. There should only be one ip address listed.
You can then get that machine to list the shares that it see on the network by entering:
    "smbclient -L ipaddressofmasterbrowser"
You should be able to just press enter when it asks for a password.
This will list available shares and servers.
    Regards,
    Rodney

  • External Hard Drive does not show up in Finder

My external hard drive is not showing up in Finder.
It shows up in Disc Utility, but I do not have access to it. I have tried the following:
    command-shift c, nothing happens
confirmed in Preferences/General that external hard drive was checked
    tried another cable
tried another port on the back of the external drive
tried to connect through the USB port
    re-started, etc.

I have same problem after installing OS 10.5.8. Disk utility sees the hard drive, the computer does not. Disk utility says invalid node structure. Volume check failed. Filesystem verify or repair failed.
That means the directory is corrupt. If you have a heavy-duty 3rd-party disk repair app, such as +Disk Warrior,+ it may be able to fix it. Otherwise, your only option is to erase and reformat the disk. They're not cheap -- Disk Warrior is about $100. And for Leopard, you need version 4.1.1 or 4.2.

  • Some songs from my iTunes library do not show in my Finder music folder

Some songs from my iTunes library do not show in my Finder music folder. For example one of the three CD's form a triple album do not show in Finder. And therefore they do not get saved when I back up my Mac either. Any ideas?

Consolidate ("organize") simply looks at everything you have in iTunes and copies them to the iTunes media folder location specified in iTunes prefs -> Advanced.  If you select to use the default settings iTunes will copy any files in its library in the correct location in the media folder.  Since you don't want the files in a different locaiton really but just want to deal with some stragglers don't do the full "move" in hte instructions below but make sure they are organized.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12165
The files will be copied so you will need to find the originals abd once you are content the library is working you can get rid of them (I often archive them on an external drive, delete the originals, then play the files which is a sure test if you have a workable copy on the computer).
