USB Overcurrent Error

Today I noticed that when I plug in my digital camera, I receive a 'USB Overcurrent Error' message. I don't receive this message when I use my only other USB device (iPhone 3G).
Would this most likely be the camera or the USB cable?

Happens both ways actually.
I tried the USB cable on my old eMac and when I do, the eMac freezes immediately. So, I assume it is the cable. As a result, I ordered a new cable. I will see soon enough I suppose. Thanks so much for the response.

after plugging an accidentally short-circuited device into the only USB-Port of my MacBook Air 2.1 A1304 (Mid 09), the Mac shut down instantaneously. I got it restarted via a PRAM- and SMC-Reset, but the USB-Port is not recognizing any devices any longer (although my external USB-Drive is at least powering up, but not mounting).
Ever since, the famous Popup „USB device was drawing too much power (…) USB devices have been disabled“ is showing up on every Startup from the installed Snow Leo SSD. System-Message-Buffer (via Terminal: sudo dmesg) shows: USB Notification: The device "EHCI Root Hub Simulation" @ 0x24000000 has caused an overcurrent condition. The hub it is attached to has been disabled. The USB Hub is no longer listed in the Profiler.
I downloaded the Snow Leo Combo-Update and installed it - with no effect. Guess it's a hardware-, not a software-issue, since booting with the Alt-Key won't show any plugged USB-drives either.
Google says: USB-controller failure - Replace your Motherboard.
Can that be true?! "USB-Prober" says in its "Hub Descriptor", the disabled device is a "Gang switched standalone hub with global overcurrent protection". What kind of "protection" is that, if the USB-Port is disabled permanently, upon noticing an overcurrent?
I'll be glad about any advice to re-enable my USB-Port without replacing the motherboard

Since I was out of warranty, I had the MacBook checked by an independent mainboard-repair-center to replace a possibly defective chip. I got it back with the comment: "We could not allocate the error-message to a specific mainboard-chip".
So I sold my darling on eBay...
Much later, I received an answer to a post of mine in another forum, saying "the overcurrent could well just have damaged some of the ultra-thin-tracers connecting the chips on the mainboard". Which sounds reasonable in my ears - with the SMC having to spill out its overcurrent-notice, just not for a short-circuit on the USB-Socket, but for one on the MAINBOARD.
So, in the end, it would have saved me lots of time and lots of brain-juice, if OS-X had spared the misleading common-place-solution ("remove the usb-device and restart the system"), and had instead confined to just the things the SMC has undoubtedly noticed (leaving the rest up to me). I would really have appreciated a message like "SMC has noticed an USB overcurrent - contact Apple, if the problem persists after removing all USB-devices and restarting the system...").

Hi-
I purchased the software to download the voice recordings from my Olympus DS2 digital voice recorder onto my mac. The DSS program is mac compatible.
After reading all of the directions, I have plugged the USB cable into my MacBook (Mac OSX 10.4.10), and the following notice appears:
USB OVERCURRENT MESSAGE
A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated.
I am hoping someone knows how I can proceed. I am on a deadline, and truly though I had crossed all my "t's" and dotted all my "i's"
Any advice would be so appreciated. If this is something I can solve with a new plug at the Apple Store, I will resort to this.

actually, just figured out my problem. the USB cable from the Olympus DS2 was plugged into the voice recorder upside down. Seems a somewhat bad design in that it goes on fairly easily. anyway, i think that causes a short?, leading to the error message re: drawing too much power.

USB overcurrent message when iPod connected

Hi,
My 5th generation iPOD doesn't work, and when I connect it to my Macbook, I get an error message that says "USB overcurrent. USB is drawing too much current and will be disabled." This occurs on both of my Macbook USB connections. I need to be able to connect the iPOD to my Macbook in order to continue troubleshooting the iPOD. But I obviously can't proceed until I can get iPOD to connect to the Macbook.

I called Apple. When you get an error message like this. It is really bad for the iPOD. I hope someone else finds this helpful.

USB Power Error with iPod Touch and 2012 MBA

I am getting a USB power error when I connect my current generation 32 GB iPod touch to my 2012 MBA.
Since both iPod and MacAir are running current software. I am also starting to get errors from iTunes telling me that my iPod can not be accessed. Any ideas? Mac or iPod problem, or BOTH? Closest Apple store is 250 miles away, but MBA is still under original 1 year original warranty. Might be time for a visit.

Macbook Pro USB Overcurrent Notice - Bluetooth related?

I am having a problem with my macbook pro that is really frustrating me. I am constantly getting a USB Overcurrent notice, even though I have nothing connected. The really curious thing is that it also seems to be having an effect on the bluetooth capability of the machine. Before the notice, bluetooth works fine, and after, it is either "unavailable" or, when running Windows XP in bootcamp, the bluetooth module doesn't even show up in the system manager. Any ideas would be really helpful!

I m having troubles with my iphone 4s since day one of its activation: status bar displays searching every now and then, and i m loosing a lot of calls.
I have upgraded the ios to the 9A406 but this did not solve it.

Audio usb ALSA error: No suitable mixer element found

I've installed arch last week. I've some problem with my usb audio. The audio usb device works but i can't use a mixer, so audio control is everytime set on max.
I can't use my normal intel audio 'cause is broken. This is my aplay -l output:

When i try to play audio files on audacious, arch give me following error: Audio usb ALSA error: No suitable mixer element found.
I've set the audio usb device as default with asoundconf. If i try to use hd intel audio, the mixer works good, but when i get back to usb audio, mixer is absent. There is a way to set a mixer for the usb audio device?

If you simply want to control the volume it would be easy to implement a softvol plugin. But this headset should have a volume control. What is the output of:

USB Power Error

I have been getting a USB power error that says....
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
Originally, got it last week when connecting an iphone to charge. I tried multiple white cables, still error. I restarted and now, each time i restart, without ANYTHING plugged into the 2 USB ports, I still get the same error.
So....it would seem that some other device inside the computer, is causing the problem? I have a mid 2009 13 inch macbook pro....and it was never a problem before last week.
Ideas to fix, or is something dying?

Bugcode-usb-driver error

System: windows 8.1 Every day, sometimes a couple of times a day, the pc shuts down and restarts. A couple of times a week, i get the message,Error : Bugcode-usb-driver
What do I do to resolve this problem please. I've tried to search out the answer but would feel more confident with the expert guidance.

TS3430 Apple usb driver error code 19 - How do I rectify?

My iPhone 5 does not connect with my laptop; it was working fine. I have a usb driver error code 19. how do I fix this?

Well, Apple's Support site states that "error 19" refers to:
19
dsNoPk2
package 2 not present [Disk Initialization]
So since the hard drive is unable to initialize, the implication is that the hard drive has failed, and your computer's symptoms tend to confirm this. I'm afraid its time to take the computer in for diagnosis and repair at this point.

EMac - USB Setup Error

Hi Guys!
My eMac (2nd Generation, I think...) it was plug into a AirPort base (one of the old ones) and after a lightning, my emac, on the right side (Ethernet, USB, etc) it was all backlighted... The computer as been shutdown automatically, I have rebooted an the first thing i notice, is that it blinks a couple a times that power light, and only if we wait a few minutes (like 4-5) the monitor starts and it shows the Open Firmware with messages saying: USB Setup Error: 5c000000 82002 and USB Setup Error: 5c000000 82000 and on the end it says: 0 2 2 failed to respond...
I don't know how to do, but I've already reset all, I've dismantle the eMac and nothing seems to be burned and if this matters, the keybord and mouse are the original!
Btw, when I write "reset-nvram" and "reset-all", the eMac reboots, it shows the Apple logo, but only for 3/5 seconds...
Please help me! I need my computer, and any help would be appreciated!

Try replacing the small battery,
eMac: How to Replace the Backup Battery
and then you may need to reset the PRAM via the keys.
Resetting the PRAM and NVRAM
I hope that is all it takes and your logic board is OK.

Installing Arch Linux on USB key: error while booting

Hello,
first of all, I must say I've followed the steps from this article on arch wiki to install archlinux on my USB key: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _a_USB_key
So what I did is to use one of my 2 usb keys to INSTALL linux, and the second one to RUN linux. I used dd to write on the 1st usb, eveything worked fine when booting, then I do install arch on the my second usb following the stept from the link above, everything works until I get this error while booting (at the middle):
Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sdc/
Root device '/dev/sdc' doesn't exist. Attempting to create it.
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/disk/by-uuid/lotsofnumbers'
You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
/bin/sh: Can't contact tty; job control turned off

To summarize I'll show you my conf files that could help you to resolve my problem:

So here I've sdc1 boot 32MB partition; sdc2 root 3GB partition; sdc3 home 978MB partition for a total of 4GB USB key~
I didn't make a swap partition as in the tutorial they are writing it's unnecessary for some kind of reasons.

I've added to here, "usb" to the hooks
installed GRUB on my sdc, here is the menu.ist:

So, I boot GRUB without problems, start Arch Linux, but then I got this error above.
I've searched alot on some forums and read many stuffs, but sitll can't fix it and it seems complicated.
I've tried to boot with UUID, also, but didn't make difference. I tried to remove some parameter from the hooks, but unfortunately this wasn't working still. I've read somewhere to use chroot, but I didn't catch on how to do that and what was the use of chroot, I'm still noob user of arch linux and currently learning. Maybe it's the problem, as some forum were talking about creating a new image, but I still don't know how to make it. By the way, I'm not sure this could have fixed my current problem. I've also read somewhere it could be due to my lack of space, but I wrote you how I did partition my USB key, let me know if you have any suggestion please.

1. What I did is re-installing entirely from my installation disk or USB to test out different setting in my config files, because I don't know how to edit my .conf as I can't really finish to boot to the end and get in terminal mode? If there is a quicker way to edit files from any terminal to go into my current USB sdc to modify directly my file from there, I'd enjoy probably. So rebuilding the initpio, no, I just re-installed to test out different configs.

USB Power Error Message When Connecting NANO

Windows XP Pro on desktop computer gave an error message that the USB port power too high or something to that effect. This has happened three times with Nano. Purchased the Nano only two days ago. I also connected the Nano to my Windows laptop to charge and it bucked the laptop battery and shut it down. Is this normal? Should I just return the Nano?

Normally the error you get is about the port not having enough power, so I don't know how it could be too high. Not sure what you mean by "bucked the battery" either, but it doesn't sound good. If it were me, I'd consider swapping the iPod for a new one to see if it's defective.

Ipad4 connection MTP USB device error with Windows 7 64 bit

I have recently bought iPad 4. When I connected to my computer through USB running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit i got the following error message

Hello lwalbring and welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Visor, as you suspect, does not have Bluetooth, so you must use the IR HotSync option. Since you are using Windows 7 64-bit, I believe that you are going to have to upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.2.2 to make things work from an OS/Driver perspective.
Since you are using such an old device, you are also going to have to download and install the PalmHotSyncSetup Utility from Pimlico. This update turns on support for old Palm OS PDAs in Palm Desktop 6.2.2. Without the update, you won't be able to sync your Visor with Palm Desktop 6.2.2. The software is free and the link is all the way at the bottom of the screen.
Lastly, if your PC doesn't have an IR port on it, you will need to purchase a USB to IR adapter. Some laptops still have IR ports and most desktops don't.
Once you have all the pieces, you'll want to go back to the Windows 7 and Vista HotSync thread again, and follow the directions for setting up and configuring IR HotSyncs.
