USB port power management issue on apple aluminium wired keyboard after upgrade to 10.8.5

Hi there,
Since I upgraded my imac (late 2012) from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 today, i can't plug any usb flash drive, or my iPhone, to the USB port of the wired keyboard anymore; I have a power management message asking to plug the usb device to the imac directly!!
It was working perfectly just before the upgrade, is it a bug, any idea?

FYI...
I tried reporting the bug but so far have had no luck being able to do so.
I went to the developer center as Eric suggested and signed in with my Apple ID.
Once there I clicked on "Bug Reporting".
That took me to a Bug Reporting page with the heading "Submitting Bugs and Feedback".
On the side of that page is a little box that says "Apple Bug Reporter: Sign in with the Apple ID you used to register as an Apple Developer to submit a bug."
(This step seems somewhat ridiculous since I had to sign in with my Apple ID just to get this far. Now it wants me to sign in again.)
When I click the  the "Sign in" button I get this:
An error has occurred. Please report the error to Apple Inc. by emailing the error detail to [email protected]
So, it seems the bug reporter doesn't work. This has been going on since the time of my last post here.

  • USB ports power management settings

An All-In-One HP Printer, Scanner, Copier is connected via USB cable, directly to one of the two USB ports in the Macbook. When the Macbook is put in sleep mode, the connection between the HP and the Macbook is interruped (I presume) because in sleep mode, the power (from the computer) to the USB ports is turned OFF, instead of being kept alive, or even reduced. Upon waking up, the HP's functions are partially disabled, e.g. there is no possibility of scanning a document. Restoring all the functions requires uninstalling the HP software, when some of its components have to be trashed manually, and reinstall the software. HP technical support has been very responsive both in contents and in speed, but suggest that the problem might be caused by the power being turned OFF to the USB ports, when the Macbook goes into sleep mode. They suggest either to power OFF the AIO HP before putting the Macbook to sleep, and powering ON the AIO after the Macbook wakes up and regains complete functionality. They also suggest to change the settings of Power Management to the USB ports. I have searched the forums here, and the web in general, but have found no indication that it is possible to change or even access the settings of the power that feeds the USB ports of the Macbook. After this long introduction, for which I apologize, here come two questions. 1) Is there a way, maybe via Terminal, to change the USB power management settings, and how? 2) If there is no such way, would it be possible to work around the problem by connecting the AIO, via USB cable, to a powered USB hub (connected to the Macbook), instead of connecting it directly to the Macbook's USB port, the "rationale" being that the USB hub is always powered, and stays powered when the Macbook is put in sleeping mode. Thanks in advance.

I have solved the issue by turning OFF the printer before sleeping or turning off the computer itself.

  • Photoshop CS6 issue with shortcuts and my keyboard after upgrade from CS5

I recently upgraded from CS5 Extended to CS6 Extended on my Mac (Mavericks), but installed it in English instead of German this time. I transferred most of my presets just fine, but none of the keyboard shortcuts were working. All I got was an unequal sign for all shortcuts and even manually changing them didn't get them to work. I found a few discussions about this issue and ended up adding a German keyboard, as I am always on the Romaji setting of my Kotoeri (Japanese) keyboard. That seemed to solve the issue, but only if I change to the German keyboard before opening Photoshop. Shortcuts don't work in CS5 anymore either unless I do. Sometimes the shortcuts also stop working a while after I change back to the Kotoeri keyboard.
Now I would like to know if there is any way to get around this issue. Isn't there a way to get my shortcuts working again without constantly having to change keyboards? I much prefer the Kotoeri one since the icon for the German keyboard in my menu bar looks extremely obnoxious, in my opinion. It's mostly a cosmetic thing to me, but I would love to get everything back to the way it was before.
I'd much appreciate any advice or help.

I am having a similar problem. Just upgraded to Apple Yosemite and all none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in a clean install of Photoshop CS6. Every menu item has some form of the ≠ sign. I've trashed the .plist file, rebuilt permissions, etc. Even basic keyboard commands, like Command-N for NEW or Command-Q for QUIT do not work. In fact, many don't show up in the menu at all. I don't have this issue in InDesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6. Every once in awhile, maybe 1 time out of 20, menus and keyboard shortcuts work properly, but I can't find any pattern.

  • Power management issue USB 2.0 Root Hub

    82801EB USB 2 Enhanced host controller .
    USB 2.0 Root Hub
    Power management issue.
The check box of the Function (Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power)  Remains always unchecked , it does not matter if you check it , in the next check in the properties window it will be unchecked again .
My problem is that my system does not hibernate if I set time more than 15 minutes or so.
The system stays-On for ever, I have check for software issues, but everything looks normal, at my search for power management problems in drivers, I found this issue, with the USB 2 controller.
I have unplug any USB device from it, and the power management status does not change also.
The INTEL driver file is very fresh, 29/4/2004.
Does any one have any ideas, Beta driver or other solution?

Well i think that i found my real problem , even if the above issue is not 100% responsible for my troubles .
The AVAST antivirus was blocking the hibernation , by one function called as ( On acces file check ) .
I did disable it , and my system now hibernates .
The point is that even now , i am not 100% certen that the system will act corectly its and every time .
But at list i did a good step on the corect direction.

  • Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz - Bad Logic Board or Power Management Issue?

I have a Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz/1.5GB/80GB which I bought non-working. It has not yet been disassembled or examined by a certified tech. This is it's issue (which replicates): the computer powers on. It makes a single warning tone, then the LED flashed at least 15 times (too fast to count). Then the posting chord is heard. Hard drive spins up. Then nothing (no video). Won’t boot from any disk. I have changed the RAM and tested the RAM banks with known-to-be-good RAM from another DP1.8GHz G5. The warning tone stopped once or twice after this switch, but then it didn’t chime. I changed the PRAM battery, but not with as new one. However, after installing the used one and then resetting the PMU, it displayed video briefly for the first time. While installed in the other 1.8GHz G5, the hard drive was formatted, given a clean install of OS X 10.4.11, and then moved into this computer where is never mounts. The computer is not accessible through TDM.
Do I have a bad logic board? Bad CPUs? A power managment issue? A RAM issue?

Through my own trial and error troubleshooting, I have found the CPUs to be in good working order and the logic board passes the Apple Service Diagnostic every time. Despite the installation of numerous pairs of modules that worked in another DP1.8GHz, the computer has a RAM issue-it gives the "no good RAM" tone most of the time when it powers up (after a PMU reset it does not). Also the computer boots from disk or into Open Firmware but the disk utility can't see either hard drive so I may have a bad SATA controller.

  • 870A-G54 - power management issues

A power-management issue with standby. I've set standby to be "S3" in the BIOS - the system goes into standby fine and wakes up fine.
The problem is, if the system is in standby for a few hours, at some point during that time, it turns itself off fully. As in, powered-down-pressing-the-power-button-causes-the-system-to-boot-from-scratch "fully off". This has happened three times so far (every time I've left the system on standby for a long period). This happens whether the BIOS "EuP 2013" setting is enabled or disabled.
The duration of time is less than 4hrs, though I don't know what the cutoff is exactly.
    No power-cuts. ;-)
Any suggestions? I don't know much about ACPI (had to look up what to set the "standby" to in the first place).
    MSI 870A-G54
    Athlon II x3 450
    Powercool 1gb AMD 5670 gfx
    2*2gb RAM
    Antec Earthwatts 380 Green PSU
    500GB Samsung HDD
    Windows XP SP3 32 bit
    NOT over/underclocked in any way.

Right, I've been conducting some experiments to try and narrow this down.
With the New powersupply (the Antec 380 Earthwatts):
    - S1 standby works fine.
    - S3 standby works for 12-13 minutes. After that the blinking-power-led stops blinking. If at this point I press the power-button, the computer does NOT turn on. It remains completely unresponsive. I have to wait about 2 more minutes before the power button starts responding, at which point I am booting from scratch (BIOS).
With the Old powersupply, a non-brand (It says "COLORSit") 400w affair that's known-good.
    - S1 standby works fine.
    - S3 standby does not work at all. The system is powered-off but actually turns off fully rather than into standby. No flashing power-LED. Pressing the power button results in booting from scratch (BIOS).
This old-powersupply was tested with the EuP 2013 both enabled and disabled.
For both experiments the dvd-drive was disconnected, so we can rule that out too (though it was never really a contender. :-) )
Given this, I'm inclined to rule out the powersupply as a cause - this is a years-old power-supply that I've never had a problem with.
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm leaning towards motherboard, but standby isn't something I know much about, so I defer to the board for suggestions.

  • 2007 BT Apple Aluminium Wireless Keyboard

Hi. Suddenly, my Apple Aluminium Wireless Keyboard (2007 version)  went mad. I deleted it from the BT devices enlisted, in order to re-pairing it, but then, I cannot pair it again. I´ve changed batteries, reboot, deleted preferences, reseted the pvram, but nothing happens. Its weird, because in the list of devices the keyboard appears listed, but finnally never get pair. Sometimes, pressing some keys, I got the device appears listed, but again, it cannot get pair.
Anyone else have the same trouble?
    Thanks in advance

  • Apple Aluminum Wired Keyboard: Special Keys Don't Work

The keyboard has function keys that are programmed to perform special operations. The Apple website explicitly states:
“The extended layout has a full complement of keys, including document navigation controls, a numeric keypad, and special function keys for Mac features such as brightness, volume, eject, play/pause, Exposé, and more.”
Unfortunately, two of these keys don’t work, even after a special software update is installed:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/keyboardsoftwareupdate11.html
The manual that comes with the keyboard provides instructions on how to program the keyboard, but those instructions either don’t work or are incorrect.
I've posted more about this and other keyboard issues here:
    http://web.mac.com/resourcesforlife/journal/writings/Entries/2007/8/21Apple_Aluminum_WiredKeyboard.html

I am using a PowerMac Dual 2.5 GHz G5 system and had trouble with the F3 and F4 function keys. The various suggestions and instructions as provided on several of the discussion threads didn't work for me.
Here's what worked for me to resolve the problem:
    1. Go here and download the Pacifist utility which helps in exploring installation packages:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
    2. Go here and download the Apple OSX update for PowerPC:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdateppc.html
OR... get the version for Intel found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
    3. Using the Pacifist utility, open the OSX Update dmg file you just downloaded. You will be able to navigate to /System/Library/Core Services. Click on Dock.app and click the install button. When it's uncompressed, it will ask if you would like to update or replace. Click replace. There is an option to repeat this response for all files. Complete the process and then exit the Pacifist utility program.
    4. Go here and download the Apple Keyboard Software Update:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/keyboardsoftwareup date11.html
    5. Install the Keyboard update and all functions should automatically work.
If the above steps resolve the problem for you, please click on the "Solved" button above. Thanks.

I have an Apple pro wired keyboard that I want to use with a Windows PC.  It seems to recognize it through plug & play, but stops working after a few minutes.  Does anyone know of a fix to this situation?

    Hi,
Could you explain that again using different words ?
I am not clear on what it is that you want to do.
What are you trying to sync ?
    Contacts ?
    Emails ?
    Other info ?
If it is Mail who do you normally get it and what applications are you using ?
People also might want to know if it is a POP or IMAP account before they can help.

  • Anyone having issues with USB port power after upgrading to iTunes 11.1?

After upgrading to itunes 11.1, I can no longer use the USB ports on my wired keyboard to synch my iPhone 4s, ipod Nano, and Ipad 2.  Previously, I could use this port to synch and charge the nano and iphone, and synch (but not charge) my iPad.  Now I simply get an error when I attach any of the devices ("a usb device needs more power").
I currently use all four of the USB ports on the back of my imac (UPS power supply, aformentioned keyboard, a Lacie backup drive that has its own power supply, and a superdrive).  Interestingly, when I unplug the Superdrive (which is plugged directly into the mac on a separate USB port), the USB port on the keyboard will work.  Unplugging any of the other 2 devices does not allow the port on the  to work.
I bought the wired keyboard to have the easily accessible UBS port to synch my nano as well as the fact I needed a number pad.

  • Low level USB port power control

This may be a software question, but is there a way to keep the USB ports from powering down on a MacBook?  The power-saving feature is causing some trouble for some older USB equipment we have (like things aren't waking back up ).  You can do this in Windows through the device manager, but if there is a way in OSX I would guess it's a plist modification of some kind.  Thanks!

  • Q190 USB Port Power

I have had a Q190 for about a month. In spite of the reviews/comments that I have seen on the Q180, I am greatly satisfied with this machine. I've even become accustomed to Windows 8! :-)
Here's my issue: When the machine is in Sleep Mode, the USB Ports seem to go into a reduced power state. I want to charge my Iphones. etc., but the USB Ports (which will charge it normally) will stop charging in Sleep Mode.
I know that there is SOME power to the ports during sleep mode, because I have an LED Backlit Keyboard, and THAT remains lit during sleep mode. So, presumably, the USB Ports are going into some sort of "reduced power state" on System Sleep.
I have made (what I think), are all the proper OS changes (usb controllers are set to not allow the PC to turn off the usb, (box unchecked) and the usb selective suspend mode in advanced power settings is set to disabled). I'm also using the High Performance Power Plan. I see NO option for USB Power in the BIOS.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the USB Ports on Full Power during system sleep. I know this can be done on many Windows Systems, as I have colleagues who do it regularly.
    TIA! :-)

    hi LeonS,
    Can you try to:
    1. Press the Winkey+R > type devmgmt.msc
    2. On the Device Manager, navigate to Human Interface Devices
    3. Do a right click > properties on all HID-compliant device and USB input Device and enable Allow this device to wake the computer under the Power Management Tab.
    4. Close the device manager, put the computer to sleep and try to connect a gadget that supports USB charging
    Let me know your findings
