USB Port shutting down...

Anytime I plug in my Blackberry Storm to my USB port it gives me an error that it is drawing too much power and the port will be shut off...
Why is this? I have had the phone for nearly a year and just now it is giving me an issue.
Recently I upgraded my ram to 4gb, my HD to a 500gb 7200rpm drive. and updated the OS on my blackberry. Could any of this cause an issue?

did you do the drive yourself? not saying you are not capable... the hard drives on these models are not very user friendly to install yourself. apple recommends a service provider do this for you...
if you are fairly handy, mistakes can happen tho, something may have been messed with during the process.
also, are you getting this on both ports? if so, how did you re-install OS X - o9r migrate to the new drive?
are any other bb users complaining about usb issues with the new BB OS?
Things to try: use the USB port towards the front, reload the OS on the phone, try a different cable, a powered usb hub, reinstall OS X from scratch.

    lighting bolt port shuts down macbook pro once the cable is pugged in. What is the cause of this problem

    Hi reginaldt,
    If your Mac unexpectedly turns off when you plug in a cable (unclear if you are describing a USB Lightning cable or a Thunderbolt cable) and you have checked to make sure there is no debris in either the cable jack or port, you may want to try resetting the PRAM and SMC:

  • TS2055 Macbook Air USB causes shut down

    My MacBook Air was the latest model. I had this symptom that once i plug in USB, out of sudden shut down by it self continuously. Both USB port effected. It just happened out of sudden. What should i do next?

    So you plug in any USB device, no matter which one, and the machine shuts down? If so, try this:
    Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    If that doesn't work, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
    Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
    *An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • K9N Platinum (not SLI) Ethernet/LAN ports shut down

    Not sure if this has been up before but i could not find this exact problem. I have the K9N Platinum with am AMD 64x 4200+ CPU and OCZ 1GB x2 mem. My build and install of XP went without incident. My problem is that when I start to download anything of size, the LAN shut down. It will say "cable unplugged". If I switch to the second port, it will be good for a while, then the same thing. The only fix is to reboot. I am connected through a switch. I loaded the latest drivers (nVidia) from the monitor software. I found a different set on the NVidia web site and installed, but now it will not pick up DHCP. It will work if I hard code the IP. I read that it should be using Realtek drivers, not Nvidia. Please help!!! I opened a case with support but they have not answered yet.

    That is a start on Specs. You can look at anyone's signatuires here to see what is most commonly looked for in specs. Your are missing the PSU specs.
    However one of the first things to try is to go into Bios and set optimized defaults. Then you will need to make sure nothing else in Bios has changed as setting Optimized defaults usually changes things quite a bit.
    Then make sure that your using the drivers that came with the board including the NVidia and Network drivers.
    You may have to enter Device manager and remove the Network Driver and let it restart.
    You did answer one question many folks would have with the specs you gave about memory. The memory you have listed should be fine.

  • Iphone usb cable shuts down laptop with error any ideas why

    every time i unplug the iphone usb cable it shuts down laptop with an error,i'm running windows7 on laptop and get a blue screen error.

    This is a common problem with corrupt USB drivers. Try using a different user account, and make sure that you eject the device properly before removing the iphone cable. I don't know what system your running so I can't link you to any USB drivers, but google is always your friend. If all else fails, un-install itunes, re-install it again, back it up with all your documents to a USB drive, then re-install windows 7. Not pleasent, but possible.

  • GE 70 notebook with USB port upside down.

    My new GE70 notebook has one of the USB 2.0 ports installed upside down, it's on the right side near the VGA port. All my other USB connections ((USB .0 and 3.0) are installed correctly, but with this one USB port I have to install my device upside down. Is this unusual? I've never seen this before.
    It's not really a problem it's just that I can't see the indicator light on my connector.
    What's up with this?
    Thanks.

    Okay, I think I answered my own question.
    I went to the MSI site and looked at the side view of the GE 70, and sure enough, the USB port near the VGA port is upside down. That seems to be the way they're designed.
    So thanks for any help that you may have been thinking of giving me

  • USB Port Shut off

    At least three times over the last several days, I've encountered a frozen cursor, after the computer has been sitting idle for a while. Neither my external mouse nor keyboard function, otherwise the computer seems to work ok. I assume that this is caused by a non-functioning USB port. Only way to clear the problem is to restart, which I have to do from the power button on the MacBook. How do I fix this problem? I've turned on the Console so I can capture the event associated with this problem. If I capture this event, what is the Apple address to send it to?

    Perhaps you can figure out a good course of action after reading this: [MacBook Service: Frequently Asked Questions|http://www.apple.com/support/macbook/service>

  • Power USB Hub shutting down iMac while in sleep

    Hello,
    First time using the forums here and I do apologized if this has been discussed before. I recently purchased a power 7 port USB hub (Newer Technology) from OWC. I plugged it in and everything seems to work great. However, when my iMac goes to sleep, it completely shuts off my iMac? I've verified that this is the issue and tested several times to confirm. I did a SMC reset and that did not work.
    I was hoping if anyone who may have input in this matter or experience what I'm experiencing? I could return the usb hub and find a replacement but I was wondering if there is a solution for this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    If you installed Mac OS X 10.6.6 using Software Update then I would try installing the 10.6.6 Combo manually. Occasionally the Combo can install any missing pieces in your OS.

  • Cisco 504G PC port shuts down periodically

    I have a customer with a Cisco 504g that the PC port periodically stops working. Usually rebooting the phone fixes the issue, but today it doesn't seem to be the case. The phone is running Software Version: 7.5.3. If he plugs his computer into any other phone or wall outlet he gets internet just fine. • Airport Extreme and the Lacie 500GB mini firewire & usb no shut down issue.

    Hey there everyone out there in cyberland, I was hoping that some one could shed some light on this simple issue I am having. I connected my airport extreme directly to the Lacie mini and the fan on the mini never shuts off because it never gets to go into sleep mode. Besides letting shutting it off completely is there a way that the airport can have a direct energy saver so the hard drive does not lose life through the time it is on and spinning? Apple should look into this kind of app since they are trying to be as green as possible. I do not want to have to buy a mac mini to just run the energy save on board the OS there. Is there a patch of fix for this, I looked in the airport utility and there is nothing there so am I missing something?
    Thanks a million!

    Nope. No patch. Your only choice is call Apple Support (you have 90 days to do so for free from the date you purchased the AEBSn), and report the problem.

  • USB shut down - too much power drawn

    Hi
    Yesterday when trying to connect my Canon EOS350D to my MBP, I changed the camera settings.
    Then, a message appeared on the MBP saying something like "A device is drawing too much power from the USB port - shutting down the bus".
    I figured it was temporary. Seems it's permanent. Many reboots and resets (PMU) later, no USB device that I own will work in any port in any way.
    Any ideas? I am fairly tech literate but this is my first Mac. All up to date.
    Thanks
    Dom

    OK - It seems to have been fixed.
    I called Apple, and they did a PRAM reset. When we restarted, still no joy, so we did a full hardware scan.
    This came up clean. They passed me on to a product specialist, but I had to go to work.
    Then, tonight, it works. Powered USB, data, all as new.
    So, I guess if this happens to you, do a PRAM reset and reboot a couple of times.
    Cheers
    Dom

  • I think I have blown out my USB ports.  Plugged eternal drive to USB port;  drive also had an AC plug which I plugged in.  Screen went white;  unplugged external drive (both USB and AC plug).  Restarted MAC Pro.  Everything came back except USB ports

    I think I have blown out my USB ports.  Plugged in an external drive to USB, but drive also had an AC connection which I connected.  Whole screen went white; unplugged external drive (both AC and USB) and shut down MacPro.  Restarted and everything came back except access to USB ports.  Have tried to reset PRAM and SMC.  No success.  Have I blown out the electronic circuitry to my USB ports?

    Thanks for the response, but ironically enough, I feel really stupid after posting that because a couple minutes after posting that my DELL mouse started working again, but I honestly don't know how long that'll last. After it started working again, I tried switch which port it's plugged into again, and the other one (the one closest to me) still isn't working. If it stops working again (which it probably will), I'll definitely take it to the Apple Store. But, for some reason almost every time I take a device to the Apple Store, it fixes the problem itself when I get there, and then stops working after I leave (like just now.)
    That's happened a couple times, like when my computer was heating up alot, and when my phone's sound kept shutting off by itelf.
    Anyways, I want to keep this discussion up just because I know it'll stop working soon. But, yeah, I was planning on taking it to the Apple Store anyways, but I think the earliest I can is probably Saturday or Sunday, so I'll do that then.
    Thanks for the response!

  • Vibe 3.4 SSL link shutting down after 2-3 minutes of use

    I have a strange issue on a vibe 3.4 installation on SLES 11.3
    Vibe is installed using the default configuration and the port mapping is
    also configured as standard and works well for internal and external access.
    However the https:// secure link only works for 2 -3 minutes after
    the"/etc/init.d/teaming start" command then the port shuts down preventing
    any further secure links. The normal http:// links continues to work fine.
    The problem is we are trying to use the office integrations which only allow
    a https:// link
    There is something on the server that shuts the secure port 8443 down after
    2-3 minutes of operation
    Can anyone please give me some help as to where to start looking for the
    cause of this.
    Thanks
    Mark Behrens

    Mark,
    you can try other solution. It uses bouncycastle library.
    1. Check Java installation (you can have more on one machine) configured in Vibe. In file /opt/novell/teaming/teaming-config/installer.xml you can find:
    <JDK JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/java/latest" type="Sun"/>
    2. Download file https://www.bouncycastle.org/downloa...dk15on-151.jar and copy it into [java]/lib/ext and [java]/jre/lib/ext (probably you have only of them, it's ok).
    3. Edit file [java]/lib/security/java.security and [java]/jre/lib/security/java.security (you have probably only one of them).
    find:
    security.provider.1=sun.security.provider.Sun
    security.provider.2=sun.security.rsa.SunRsaSign
    security.provider.3=sun.security.ec.SunEC
    security.provider.4=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.P rovider
    security.provider.5=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
    security.provider.6=sun.security.jgss.SunProvider
    security.provider.7=com.sun.security.sasl.Provider
    security.provider.8=org.jcp.xml.dsig.internal.dom. XMLDSigRI
    security.provider.9=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPC SC
    security.provider.10=sun.security.mscapi.SunMSCAPI
    and replace it with:
    security.provider.1=sun.security.provider.Sun
    security.provider.2=org.bouncycastle.jce.provider. BouncyCastleProvider
    security.provider.3=sun.security.rsa.SunRsaSign
    security.provider.4=sun.security.ec.SunEC
    security.provider.5=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider
    security.provider.6=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
    security.provider.7=sun.security.jgss.SunProvider
    security.provider.8=com.sun.security.sasl.Provider
    security.provider.9=org.jcp.xml.dsig.internal.dom.XMLDSigRI
    security.provider.10=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPCSC
    security.provider.11=sun.security.mscapi.SunMSCAPI
    Restart Vibe and test all again.

  • Keep USB ports powered when PC off

    Hi,
    I got my first iMac a few days ago and am missing a feature that my PC had. I have a razor mamba wireless mouse that charges in its own dock via USB. I would also like to charge my iPhone 4 from my iMacs USB ports over night. But when I turn off my iMac the USB ports power down, unlike my PC where the USB ports would remain active and charge my mouse over night.
    Is there any way I can charge my USB components overnight without leaving the iMac on?

    I have a belkin 7 adapter for additional usb ports for my mac pro. It worked fine without problems till recently when the message regarding usb port drawing too much power and the computer shuts the port on the mac pro down. The strip comes with its own power supply adapter. The attachments are additional hard drives used as backups and independent data. Other than disconnecting it are there any fixes?

    You're getting the message because you're exceeding the available current, probably as a result of bus-powered drives. The power sources for hubs are rather small. Try using drives with their own power supplies.
