USB Port Suspended

Hi, I am having a similar issue to the one described in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2443010?tstart=0
One of my usb ports on my Macbook Pro (13" late 2011) no longer work. It is the usb port beside the lightning/mini display port the usb port beside the SD card slot still works fine. I belive it was caused by some sort of surge from a usb hub that I had plugged into the port when it stopped working (I belive this is so because the surge protector that I had the usb hub's external power adapter plugged into was turned off.). I have used the usb probe tool to discover that the device has been suspended.
I have tried resetting the smc and restarting my laptop. I will also reset the pram and report back later.
Please help. I am really hoping this is not a hardware problem but that is what it seems to be. Also if it is a hardware problem is it possibel to fix myself? And hwo much would a repaire such as this one cost me?
Any advice or suggustions are greatly appreciated.

By saying "the device i suspended", I mean the usb port. my bad

  • Macbook Pro USB Ports Suspended

I have a serious problem with my Macbook Pro Late 2008, I plugged a cooling fan to one USB port and suddenly the computer restarted, no previous message, no warning, then on loggin screen I got this message
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may have also been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again"
So, that "again" has never happened, ever since I startup my Mac I get this message and none of the two USB ports are working.

    Things I have tried already.
    - Restart in Safe mode (no change)
    - Run diagnostics (everything seems alright)
    - Restart PRAM (no change)
    - Restart Power Management - removing battery and hold power button for 10secs without it (no change)
    - I have tried the USB Prober tool and it tells me that my USB ports are Suspended (an amount of 3 (three) of them seems to be on that status)
The suspended USB ports are: IR Receiver, Built-in iSight, and BRCM2046 Hub
The only thing I have not tried yet, is to reinstall the OS, but I don't think that it is a matter of OS problem or could it be?

Resetting the SMC usually reactivates a suspended port or ports, and that's why I think you're going to need a hardware repair. I suspect your external cooling fan or its USB cable is defective, malfunctioning, or just very poorly designed, and has fried your port or ports. I recommend returning it for a refund if possible, or not using it again if you are stuck with it.
Run the Apple Hardware Test that you'll find on one of the DVDs that came with the computer. If AHT reports any problems, make a Genius Bar appointment at the nearest Apple Store, or phone AppleCare to set up a repair.

  • Non grounded HP Laptop have electrical feeling on usb ports

I am living here in the Philippines now and have brought my Hp laptop dv9000.  Whenever I turn on the laptop with the AC I get this electrical feeling in the usb ports.  When I run with the battery I feel no electricity.  Since the AC can take a 100-240V input, the outlets here in the Philippines are 240V, it shouldnt have any problems.  But the charger has a 3rd prong that is used as a ground, but the wall outlet only has 2.
To better understand by setup: 1. the electrical outlet has 2 prongs that lets out 240V, 2. I have and AVR (automatic voltage regulator) so I can lower the voltage for my, 3. UPS (uninterrupted power supply) that only takes in 110V.  I plug in my AC charger to the UPS to power my computer.
So my question is what can I do now to stop the the electricity coming out of the usb ports? Do I need to install a grounded socket?

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

  • One USB Port not Working Properly on MacBook Pro 3,1

I have an older macbook 3,1 running Mavericks OS and recently one of my left USB ports has not been:
    1) able to eject external hard drives plugged into it (I have to force eject)-instead it gives me a message that one or more programs may be using it (even though I don't have any programs using it).  The hard drive is being powered by USB has a 3.0 connection although this wasn't a problem in the past... I tried the other USB port and it can eject just fine from that port.
    2)Intermittent communication with mouse.
Not sure if this is a hardware issue but when I try to run diagnostics on this laptop by holding down the "D" key at startup it doesn't take me to diagnostics. I no longer have the discs for this laptop (containing said hardware test) so I can't boot the diagnostics from that discs. In lieu of a hardware test I opened CONSOLE and did a search for USB and there were a couple of these messages:
    8/29/14 12:13:43.000 AM kernel[0]: **** [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][SuspendDevice] -- Suspend -- suspendDeviceCallResult = 0x0000 (kIOReturnSuccess) -- 0xdc00 ****
Is this a logic board issue? Would rolling my OS back to pre-Mavericks work? The problem didn't emerge right when I updated to Mavericks however I have had luck changing OS stuff (updating or rolling back) with faulty USBs...
Here are other troubleshooting methods I have attempted with no success:
-Disk Utlity (repair disk and permissions)
    -RESET PRAM NVRAM
    -Remove battery
    -RESET SMC
    -Shut Down
    -Run Disk Utility @ startup
I'd love to get access to a Hardware Test compatible with my macbook. The links I have found online are to incomplete files. If someone @ Apple could send some Hardware diagnostics tool my way via a disk image that would be perfect.

Did you boot into Recovery or try & run OS X Utilities, to attempt a test?
Depending on the computer, that may be your best bet, short of taking
the computer to an Apple Store with Genius bar; or to an AASP who is
trained in Apple repair & testing services.
A replacement of original install restore DVD with the correct AHT on
a bootable DVD, could be obtained by contacting Apple support or
the main online Apple sales, or applecare; there would be a fee.
They'd need to know the Serial Number and product info, and you'd
    have to provide a form of payment in order to get replacement discs;
and if the computer is way too old, those may be harder to get now.
The main system tools could be installed in Recovery partition.
And Ms Sammit may have answered this.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • MacBook Pro closest to the screen USB port doesn't work

    Hey there!
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 6,2 (15" 2,66 GHz i7 4GB RAM) which is in perfect conditions. I use it everyday to study and play the X-Plane simulator, basically, so it has never fallen nor taken any damage. Last week, all of the sudden, the USB port located closest to the screen stopped working. I've spent several hours trying to figure out what the problem is (tried the SMC and NVRAM reset more than once) but all I got was this log from USB Prober:
    Feb 12 21:46:26.196  [2]
    BRCM2070 Hub[0xffffff800bcc0c00]::DeviceRequest _DeviceRequestWithTimeout runAction() failed (0xe00002ed)
    Feb 12 21:46:26.197  [3]
    IOUSBDeviceUserClientV2[0xffffff80151f7200]::DeviceRequestIn (sync < 4k) err:0xe00002ed (device is not responding)
    Feb 12 21:46:26.197  [3]
    IOUSBDeviceUserClientV2[0xffffff80151f7200]::DeviceRequestIn < 4K to 0xffffff800bcc0c00 - returning err e00002ed, size: 0
I imagine that the problem is in the BRCM2070 Hub, as it's status in the "Port Status" section is "STATUS(change): CONNECT ENABLE SUSPEND POWER Full Speed" and "Port Power State: Suspended (Driver)", while my other USB port which is working okay is "STATUS(change): POWER Full Speed" and "Port Power State: No connection". If I connect anything to the problematic USB Port the status won't change, while, if connected to the okay one, it will show what's connected instead of saying "No Connection" (e.g. iPhone). The only thing that gives a sign of life when connected to the problematic one is my Samsung External 500GB HD, but it simply lights up, doesn't mount nor is recognised. After a minute it turns off while still connected. I don't know how to proceed as I don't have any Apple Stores near me.
Is there anyway to work this problem out or I should just wait until the end of this year to go to the US and take my machine to a Genius? This problem is really annoying me, as I frequently use one of the ports to charge my iPhone and the other one to connect my mouse. I'm thinking about buying an USB hub to bypass the problem, but it would kill my MBP's portability.

I solved my issue and I believe it was router related. I have a router through Verizon and their Fios service. My router was old so I caled for a replacement. when I received thereplacement I switched it the router to only accept 802.11n and this did the trick. Problem solved, stupid router.

  • USB ports suddenly stop working: xhci_hcd and ehci_hcdwontload[SOLVED]

Hello everyone.  I am having USB issues on my HP dv6t-7000. I was using my USB keyboard/mouse and the USB was working fine.  I then plug in a flash drive and ALL USB PORTS STOP WORKING.  So I tried the usual fix of reloading xhci_hcd.
    rmmod xhci_hcd
    modprobe xhci_hcd
but nothing happens.  I check lsmod and the module is not loaded. Neither is ehci_hcd:

A new kernel was just installed via pacman.  I haven't booted it yet.  Maybe that will fix it?
EDIT: This is happening with kernel 3.7.6-1-ARCH.  Especially after the computer goes to sleep.

  • USB Ports on HP Pavilion 15-e087nr Laptop Not Working

I have a HP Pavilion 15-e087nr Laptop running Windows 8.1. It has 3 USB ports and all of sudden they stopped working. It will not detect my wireless mouse, a USB corded mouse that I have or my phone when I plug it in. I checked Device Manager and under USB Devices it shows a number of choices and none of them have any errors showing so it appears the computer is seeing the ports. However, nothing works when plugged into them. Anyone have any ideas for fixing this issue? I've tried to uninstall them with no luck.
I appreciate any help that can be provided.
    Thanks

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

  • All USB ports seem to stop working "randomly" but some remain functioning until unplugged and plugged back in. [WINDOWS 8.1]

The devices that die right away are the network adapter and any USB memory stick plugged in, they still have their lights and all running but aren't recognized in "This PC" and the network adapter isn't found in "Control Panel\Network and
    Internet\Network Connections".
My keyboard, wireless mouse that runs through the keyboard's USB ports and the external HDD remains functional UNTIL I pull the plug on them, after that plugging them back in does nothing.
I put randomly in quotations because it seems to fail more often when I download something at speeds over 3Mb/s, for an example downloading Hearthstone through the Battle.Net client will more often than not make the issue happen after a little bit. BUT it still
happens randomly during NO network load what-so-ever.

    I HAVE:
    * [Downloaded these chipset drivers](http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows%208.1%20-%2064)
    * Installed all Windows 7 drivers I could find except the BIOS ones due to lack of Windows 8.1 drivers from http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_IV_FORMULA/HelpDesk_Download/
    * Turned off "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" in Device Manager for ALL devices in the USB tab that had the option, and the Network tab.
    * Set the Power Options to high performance and disabled "USB Selective Suspended Setting"
I simply don't know what to do anymore and it's breaking me down, I need this fixed before the weekend or the LAN I'm planning to go to will be a disaster and I'll probably go insane trying to solve this myself.
Just tell me whatever more information you could need and I'll supply it, I'm desperate to get this solved.
**I never had any of these issues on my old PC that had different parts but the same network adapter and external HDD so they are not to blame for this, same for keyboard and mouse.**

Hey, I hope this helps you out a bit... I have had the same issue on my Asus K55A notebook with Win8.1 Pro x64 from the beginning! Thru my extensive research I found something interesting and the possible cause to all this! What I found was that by design
the xHCI Host Controller has virtual HS 2.0 Ports linked to the 3.0 Ports... Enabling compatibility with 2.0 devices ok... What happens is that the xHCI stack is unstable just like you say... The ONLY WAY I was able to fix the problem was by unlocking the
UEFI/BIOS to allow me full access to USB Configurations... I had to disable 2 of the HS ports under the xHCI Controller since I have only 2x 3.0 ports... This allowed 3.0 devices to be enumerated correctly under the xHCI stack and 2.0 devices now were enumerated
under the EHCI 2.0 stack... That's what worked in my case... I'm still digging around for more info about this issue because I find it so odd that no one discovered this when designing xHCI stacks and drivers at MS for Win8/8.1 x64... I hope I shed some light
on this issue... Good luck and keep us posted!
Hi, Sebastian. I have the same problem but i'm getting crazy trying to solve it. Can you help me to unlock the UEFI to access full USB config? and give me some suggestions on how to solve the problem?

  • Q190 USB Port Power

I have had a Q190 for about a month. In spite of the reviews/comments that I have seen on the Q180, I am greatly satisfied with this machine. I've even become accustomed to Windows 8! :-)
Here's my issue: When the machine is in Sleep Mode, the USB Ports seem to go into a reduced power state. I want to charge my Iphones. etc., but the USB Ports (which will charge it normally) will stop charging in Sleep Mode.
I know that there is SOME power to the ports during sleep mode, because I have an LED Backlit Keyboard, and THAT remains lit during sleep mode. So, presumably, the USB Ports are going into some sort of "reduced power state" on System Sleep.
I have made (what I think), are all the proper OS changes (usb controllers are set to not allow the PC to turn off the usb, (box unchecked) and the usb selective suspend mode in advanced power settings is set to disabled). I'm also using the High Performance Power Plan. I see NO option for USB Power in the BIOS.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the USB Ports on Full Power during system sleep. I know this can be done on many Windows Systems, as I have colleagues who do it regularly.
    TIA! :-)

    hi LeonS,
    Can you try to:
    1. Press the Winkey+R > type devmgmt.msc
    2. On the Device Manager, navigate to Human Interface Devices
    3. Do a right click > properties on all HID-compliant device and USB input Device and enable Allow this device to wake the computer under the Power Management Tab.
    4. Close the device manager, put the computer to sleep and try to connect a gadget that supports USB charging
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers

  • USB ports and inbuilt webcam stopped working

I updated to 8.1 a few months ago and everythings been fine until now, I haven't downloaded anything at all lately
except borderlands 2 from steam which i was playing w/ a wireless USB mouse, until my laptop gave me a low battery warning so i closed it without turning it off and put it to a side.
Later I put the laptop on charge and opened it w/ my ipod charger and USB mouse attached and the ports just weren't
    working.
I booted the laptop into diagnostic mode and the ports worked, i could use the mouse and my iPod was charging. I
ran tests on all 3 ports to and all 3 passed, but when i boot the pc into normal mode they don't work at all, so I'm thinking that it's a problem w/ the software & not the ports/camera themselves.
    I've tried:
Turning off the USB selective suspend setting
Uninstalling the USB ports in device manager and rebooting (camera isnt showing up in dev mgr at all)
Updating/re-installing the drivers (from both HP and Intel websites)
    Doing a system restore
There is a section in device manager called Other Devices containing "Unknown Device" and "Unknown USB Device (Configuration descriptor request failed)" (both w/ yellow exclamation points)
My laptop is a HP 250 G1 Notebook PC

    Hi,
Meanwhile, please reinstall the usb controller and check the result:
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
    a)    In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    b)    Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
    Then, restart your computer.
Please also make sure you update to latest BIOS, you can refer to the user manual or the manufacture website since this operation might contain some risks.

  • Dynadock doesn't power USB ports

I've bought a new Dynadock from Toshiba. As I uderstood from documentation it should power two front usb ports even when host computer is in sleep mode or disconnected. It seems not working for me.
Devices connected to any (including front) ports stop charging when computer is suspended/disconnected. I tried with ipod, other flash mp3 player with the same result.
Does it work for you? Should it work as I understand? Or my device is just defected?
    What is your opinion?
    Thank you for your help.
    Barthek

    Thank you for your reply.
I'm afraid, that my question was not precise.
You are right, that this kind of devices can shut down when port gets inactive.
But as I understand from the manual, that devices still should be powered.
Manual says: "Power is always provided by the front USB ports, even though the computer is off"
To make my question more clear, lets assume, that computer is not connected at all.
Can the front USB ports of Dynadock be used as a regular USB charger, for any USB powered device (mp3 player, ipod, etc) ?
This does not work for me :(
I hoped it will function, and I want to be sure that it should work, before trying to repair/replace Dynadock.
    thanks, Barthek

  • Help!! Ipod Video usb Port Not recognized !

Could anyone tell me what's going on with my ipod video 30g?
My friend borrowed my ipod for a file copy to his desktop, when I got it back and pluged it in the dock, the computer said: usb can't be recognized.
I am sure that the USB hub of my IBM is perfectly okay. And It is okay for the ipod to play music, photos and videos.
By the way, My friend's External Portable Hard drive also had the same problem after connecting to his desktop.
Have we got the Ipod usb port burned? Is there any way we can fix it?
    Thank You!

Your Windows PC doesn't recognize IPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
It seems that many people are still getting the 'USB Device not Recognized' problem from time to time. Unfortunately there is no easy fix.
Firstly, it's recommended that you make sure every one of your motherboard drivers are completely up-to-date, but you probably already knew that.
In XP, after a USB port isn't used for a long while the USB driver built into the OS sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When you plug a device back in, it can sometimes fail to 'wake up' properly. This problem was supposedly fixed in SP1 but there is a related registry hack that may still be able to help.
    Run regedt32.exe and navigate to;
    HKEYLOCALMachine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.
A long shot perhaps, but I recall having similar problems with a USB hub built into my Microsoft keyboard and adding this key seemed to solve it. It wouldn't hurt in trying .
Alternatively, removing all entries relating to USB in Device Manager and all associated USB drivers will force XP into refreshing the USB driver stack.
    Begin by unplugging all USB devices, then use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall any USB driver software. Next, boot up into safe mode and go to Device Manager. Once in device manager make sure 'Show hidden devices' is checked under the View menu. Uninstall all device entries in this order;
    1. USB peripheral devices (printers etc.)
    2. HID and/or Composite USB (Human Interface Devices) You're using PS/2 input devices so you may not have this entry.
    3. USB Root Hub(s)
    4. USB Host Controller(s) (Universal or Enhanced Host Controllers)
Then boot back into Windows (not safe mode) and it should populate the Root Hubs & Host controllers again. Proceed to plug your USB devices back in, starting with your powered hub. Be aware that most USB printers and scanners need to have their drivers installed first before you plug them in.
Hopefully some of this may be of help, let me know how you get on.

  • Compaq v2000 usb ports not working

I'm having this trouble with my HP Compaq v2000 usb ports.  when I plug in something to the one of the usb plug-ins it won't recognize it. I'm running windows XP home edition and this problem just started about a week ago and what the message will say is:
    "USB Device Not Recognized
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.  for assistance on solving this problem click this window. "
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?  I tried plugging in several different types of usb devices and it results in the same thing.

    hi valTud,
After you've done all the basic stuff, like turning the computer off and back on, looking for physical damage, and all that [which you've probably already done], there are a couple more things you can try. Uninstalling all the things under the USB Host Controller heading in Device Manager would be the first of these, followed by disabling the USB Selective Suspend feature.

  • Power off a specific usb port

Hello guys I'm trying to power off one usb port of my laptop. So far, I only managed to power off one  of them through this command:
    #off:
    echo "1-1" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind
    #on:
    echo "1-1" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/bind
The problem is that I can't get the other usb to power off. I also tried with this command
    echo suspend > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/power/level
bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument
as you see unfortunately I get an error..
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Does it have the same file structure? Have you tried powering off a USB port, that has, say, a mouse plugged in or a keyboard?

I guess that doesn't work so well :-)
Shortened story: A135-S2246 upgraded to Win 7.
System acts funky, so I do "clean install" of 7.
Dreaded BIOS password issue arises, but I get past it.
Like a good soldier, I upgrade the BIOS to 1.60 and install all of the Toshiba software for Win 7 clean installs.
The USB ports now tell me that every USB device I own is defective.
I've uninstalled all USB ports, drivers, etc., installed all drivers for my USB devices and tried to get Win 7 to manually recognize.
I've Google until my Googler is worn out and can't find a real fix.
    NO LOVE.
Before I order restore discs (FREE! with a cost of $24.95 to mail them to me), can anyone tell me if this is issue is resolvable?

    Satellite A135-S2246
I've uninstalled all USB ports, drivers, etc..
    A good start.
Try disabling Selective Suspend. Open registry editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the following key.
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usb
In this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and set its data to 1.
    Reboot.
