USB Ports Aren't Working

I have a HP pavilion g series laptop. I'm not sure what it is or anything, that's all I know about it.
But anyway, my USB ports aren't working.
I tried plugging in my mouse and i tried plugging in my xbox 360 controller, the lights come on for a few seconds on both of them, but then they went off and my computer won't pick them up.
What do I do to fix it this problem?

Try to go into device manager and see if you have any yellow !s or red triangles near the usb ports. Remove all the usb ports and hubs and reboot the machine.  The drivers should reload automatically. Do the hard reset by removing the battery, unplugging the power adaptor, holding in the power button for a full minute, putting the battery and power adaptor back in and try it again.

Bluetooth and USB ports aren't working, so am unable to use Imac past turning it on. There's no way to connect mouse or keyboard, it started right after a software update for Maverick (OS X bash Update 1.0 – OS X Mavericks), bluetooth symbol not showing in the task bar at all.

    Hi SBrwn,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The symptom you're describing can be frustrating to troubleshoot as our options are limited. I do suggest resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) if you have not already. This step can help you regain use of USB and Bluetooth.
Follow these steps to reset the SMC on your iMac:
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
Shut down the computer. [by holding down the power button]
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
You can find these steps and more information at this link:

    All the best,

  • Both my usb ports aren't working, Please help!

I bought a 500gb external hard drive that is usb powered. it was working fine a week ago but now i get a message saying a device draws to much power, therefore all my usb ports aren't working for anything any more. Not even a simple wireless mouse. I am using a macbook pro late 2011. also.....when i use the usb port closest to the charging port, the lights on he external hard drive turn on (yet i still get the message). When i use the other usb port, no lights turn on at all. does this mean one of them is just ruined completley??.
    Thanks,

It actually did. After I uninstalled java and restarted my computer for the fifth time, the usb ports actually responded! I re installed java and the problem was fixed.

  • USB ports disabled/not working

My USB ports aren't working, one is completely dead and the other supplies power but I receive an error saying the port has been disabled due to the device using "too much power." I have restarted and updated with no luck. The devices work fine on my friend's computers with no error prompts. The laptop is 2 days old and I haven't done anything that should cause a short out, other than removing a USB storage plug without ejecting first.

USB plugs only supply *so much* power to USB devices.
The usual fix is to buy a self-powered exteral USB hub (AC adapter plugged into wall).  That takes 95% of the power load off of the MBP.
But then some USB hubs do not play nice with Mac, and some devices do not play nice through an external hub at all due to the additional translation of USB signals.
First thing ... do not repeat overtaxing the USB ports ... only bad comes of that, even though the MBP usually can dened itself from damage -- usually.
Go to macsales.com, see what they recommend for powered USB hubs, since they try hard to be mac-compatible nad may have beter bets thn randomly trying ones from Best Buy or Fry's or Microcenter.

  • USB ports does not work

Hi I have problems with not working USB ports. It used to work. I downloaded actual drivers at msi.com for my gaming notebook GX 60 Destroyer and now my USB ports does not work. What should I do?

    What driver have you updated?
Try to do an EC firmware reset by removing the battery and the AC adapter then put the battery back with AC adapter attached.
Same questions like Pegasus asked, does all ports not working? which one exactly? What OS are you using?
Have you done any changes to the system? (for example: self-install OS or changing OS)

  • USB ports don't work after resuming from standby with Windows 8 on X230 tablet

I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 on my X230 tablet.  Before installing Windows 8 I installed the most recent BIOS for this machine (version 2.50).  After installing Windows 8 I installed System Update from the Lenovo Website and downloaded all the recommended drivers and other files.  I've also installed all the latest Windows 8 updates.
Here are the symptoms of my problem: After resuming from standby/sleep mode, my USB ports do not work.  My computer has two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 ports.  All exhibit the same behavior.  After resuming from standby mode I have tried inserting both my mouse and a USB thumbdrive, but neither are recognized.  After restarting Windows, the USB ports work again... until I resume from standby mode again.
I hope there is a solution to this issue.  It is very frustrating.

Thanks for the suggestion about tweaking the "Allow this computer to turn off this device" feature.  I un-checked that box for every entry I could find under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in the Devide Manager.  Unfortunately, the same symptoms of my problem persisted.
I went back and looked at the README file associated with the BIOS 2.50 download on Lenvo's support site.  At the bottom of the file it gives a "Summary of Changes".  Under version 2.03 of the BIOS (the version just before version 2.50), it says:
    - (Fix) Fixed an issue where USB device might not detected when system resume from sleep mode.
This indicates that Lenovo support was already aware of such issues.  The problem was intended to be fixed in version 2.03 of the BIOS.  However, the issue persists on my machine, even with the latest BIOS.
Hopefully someone from Lenovo can comment here.

  • MacBook Pro closest to the screen USB port doesn't work

    Hey there!
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 6,2 (15" 2,66 GHz i7 4GB RAM) which is in perfect conditions. I use it everyday to study and play the X-Plane simulator, basically, so it has never fallen nor taken any damage. Last week, all of the sudden, the USB port located closest to the screen stopped working. I've spent several hours trying to figure out what the problem is (tried the SMC and NVRAM reset more than once) but all I got was this log from USB Prober:
    Feb 12 21:46:26.196  [2]
    BRCM2070 Hub[0xffffff800bcc0c00]::DeviceRequest _DeviceRequestWithTimeout runAction() failed (0xe00002ed)
    Feb 12 21:46:26.197  [3]
    IOUSBDeviceUserClientV2[0xffffff80151f7200]::DeviceRequestIn (sync < 4k) err:0xe00002ed (device is not responding)
    Feb 12 21:46:26.197  [3]
    IOUSBDeviceUserClientV2[0xffffff80151f7200]::DeviceRequestIn < 4K to 0xffffff800bcc0c00 - returning err e00002ed, size: 0
I imagine that the problem is in the BRCM2070 Hub, as it's status in the "Port Status" section is "STATUS(change): CONNECT ENABLE SUSPEND POWER Full Speed" and "Port Power State: Suspended (Driver)", while my other USB port which is working okay is "STATUS(change): POWER Full Speed" and "Port Power State: No connection". If I connect anything to the problematic USB Port the status won't change, while, if connected to the okay one, it will show what's connected instead of saying "No Connection" (e.g. iPhone). The only thing that gives a sign of life when connected to the problematic one is my Samsung External 500GB HD, but it simply lights up, doesn't mount nor is recognised. After a minute it turns off while still connected. I don't know how to proceed as I don't have any Apple Stores near me.
Is there anyway to work this problem out or I should just wait until the end of this year to go to the US and take my machine to a Genius? This problem is really annoying me, as I frequently use one of the ports to charge my iPhone and the other one to connect my mouse. I'm thinking about buying an USB hub to bypass the problem, but it would kill my MBP's portability.

I solved my issue and I believe it was router related. I have a router through Verizon and their Fios service. My router was old so I caled for a replacement. when I received thereplacement I switched it the router to only accept 802.11n and this did the trick. Problem solved, stupid router.

  • I plugged in my ipod and now i get the error message: Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled" - i have a MAcBook pro and now my USB ports do not work - can anyone help me ???

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard and USB ports no longer work completely

    Hi!
So my wife is using my older (from 2007) 15in macbook pro. We just installed Snow Leopard (from Tiger) and the USB ports are no longer functioning correctly.
Previously, intermittently (between restarts) one of the USB ports wouldn't work well, but restarts always fixed it. This would happen maybe once or twice a month.
Currently, neither the left or right USB port work well. Both will run a USB mouse and charge an iphone, but neither will recognize the phone or a card reader as plugged in.
We've tried restarting. Tried turning off, unplugging, removing the battery and holding down the power for 5 seconds and restarting.
Nothing is working. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix it?
(The iphone is recognized by my macbook pro, so it's not the wire or the phone, at least as far as we can tell.)
    Thank you kindly in advance.

I think it's time you upgraded to a newer version of Photoshop.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1350sl - USB ports does't work!!

    hello,
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1350sl (bought in Italy, with Windows 7 Home Premium).
Today I formatted my laptop and installed Win 7 Ultimate, however, the USB ports are not working anymore.
I used the drivers contained on HP's own site, but I still have the problem (HP drives Italian).
In Control Panel - System - Device, the USB port is with a yellow exclamation mark (but is energized, tested it with my cell phone).
What can I do? Will I have to reinstall Win 7 Home Premium?
    I need help! tnks!!!

We do not know what drivers you tried to install. Is the Win7 Ultimate a legitimate copy? I would try uninstalling the usb hub as a device and reboot to see if you can get the driver to reload properly. Your laptop does not have usb 3.0 so actually Windows 7 ought to have a good driver built in. It is also important to have the Intel chipset driver installed:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-79070-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
If the usb ports were working before the format, then it is very, very unlikely the hardware has failed and it is almost certainly some problem with the OS install.

  • USB Ports Randomly Stop Working

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook with Windows 7. All of the ports, 2 2.0 and 2 3.0 ports, began to randomly stop working. My mouse light would still light up, but the mouse wouldn't work. If I rebooted the entire laptop, all of the ports would come back on for a short period of time before they randomly shut off again. They will also come back on for a short period of time if I close the lid for a few seconds and reopen it. However, lately, the 3.0 ports have stopped working entirely and the 2.0 ports stopping is becoming more frequent.
The first time I noticed this was when I was testing a micro usb cable (it has stopped charging and I was testing whether it was the cable or the wall adapter). I plugged the cable into one of the 2.0 ports and it gave me a USB surge warning. Other than that, I haven't received any notices. The drivers are up to date. I have uninstalld the root hubs multiple times. I have tried all kinds of Power plans for the laptop. Nothing works. The USB ports still stop working, and it's becoming increasingly more frustrating.

    Hello Abby_Renee,
With the USB 3.0 port not working, and your 2.0 port working intermittently, I would suggest the following document Troubleshooting USB Connections (Windows 7) for troubleshooting.
In this document there is a specific option for USB 3.0 ports stop working, which would be the best steps to follow for your 3.0 ports. Now for the 2.0 ports, I would suggest USB device not detected by Windows (no device name in device manager), or the other option is USB devices are detected by Windows but are not working properly. The last two options are dependant on the specific errors you are experiencing.
Please let me know the outcome of the troubleshooting steps.
    Good Luck!

  • Audio output and left USB port is not working!

Hi! I have MacBook Air 13" late 2010, Audio output and left USB port is not working!
    What happened?
    Part No.: Z0JH000TE RS

If the left USB port doesnt work with an external mouse its seems to be a hardware malfunction of this USB port.
The newest BIOS is already installed?
Have you removed all USB ports from device manager and restarted your notebook?
If you have already tried this, contact an authorized service provider. The guys can try to fix this issue and it should be covered by warranty, if you still have warranty on this notebook. :)

  • After update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.

    hello,
after update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.
the used ports appear to be "killed"; the unused USB ports seem to work, but the Mac works in slow-motion.
The only "solution" is to restart my Mac.
    - SMC-reset, PRAM-reset or repairing user rights had no positive effect; what is the solution - a bug-fix-update???

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

  • T420 USB Ports do not work after installing XP

Hello my office has  been using Lenovo's for some time now but we recently purchased a T420 and installed Windows XP SP3 on it.  The issue we are having is that the uSB ports do not work.  I have tried every driver I can find but still no luck, can anyone help?

    hey chris0277,
could you check in Device Manager and see if there is any ? or ! symbol on the USB area.
If there is, i do recommend uninstalling the drivers from it and then visit http://support.lenovo.com and update your unit
