USB Ports Dead after undock and redock W510 in Minidock Plus Series 3

Hi,
just personalized a new W510 (Win XP 32) for a user and installed it on his desk. Everything worked fine except for one thing.
I start the NB in the Docking Station with an external keyboard and mouse (original IBM/Lenovo) attached.
Works fine.
Then I undock the Notebook (there is no button or menu entry for undocking, it's just press the button to eject the NB).
Notebook still works fine.
Now I put the NB back into the dock. External LCD shows regular desktop, but external keyboard and mouse doesn't work any more. The mouse doesn't even have power (no light).
I checked every USB Port --> Dead.
If I plug the mouse or keyboard into the usb port of the NB they get power, but don't work.
If I reboot the NB, everything is fine again.
Do I have to install some special plug ins to allow undocking nd "redocking"?
Thanks
Regards
Mith

I have this problem with my W520, with the keyboard only (the mouse works fine).  I can't do anything with any external keyboard after undocking+redocking until I reboot the machine entirely.
I updated the BIOS and the Intel chipset driver as per the suggestion here and this had no effect.
I explained in more detail in this thread here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T500-keyboard-locks-when-docking-or-undocki...
I hope someone can shed some light on this, because it's totally shattering my productivity

  • Left USB-Port dead after wake from sleep. Just restart helps.

I hoped Apples keyboard-Update today would solve my biggest hate-bug in this buggy POS called Leopard. It didn't.
As usual on my Leopard-Macbook Pro, no device will work on the left USB-Port after I waked the computer from sleep. Just a restart helps. I hoped this update to solve this, because it replaced among others "IOUSBFamily.kext".
Terminal gives a timeout error for the internal USB-Hub after wake from sleep. I assumed this should be related.
    I'm really angry now.
When will Apple solve the most urgent problems in Leopard?
Was 10.5.1 just smoke and mirrors to make (fool people into...) people upgrade who intended to wait until the first maintenance-update?
Was Leopard Apples attempt to make Windows-Users more comfortable by putting in some heavy extra-bugs and blue screens?
FIX IT FINALLY! And f... don't wait for Macworld to release 10.5.2. It's desperately needed and the current state of Leopard will leave some people very sad at christmas after getting their first Mac. First impression counts and many more peoples first contact with the Mac will be at christmas...

Apple knows the problem and for some reason they are stumped on fixing it. this is so bad I can't believe it. On my macbook pro with Leopard installed, USB left port is dead after sleep. Only restarting can power it back up. I have to restart every day to use my external hard drive for time machine or when putting my flash drive in the port.
Come on already Apple. This is a SERIOUS, SERIOUS problem.
    Fix it.

  • Dual G5 USB ports dead after sent to sleep

    Hi,
after sending my Dual G5 to sleep a few times (3-4), no new hardware or in the front/back USB ports are recognized. To be more precise:
I have connected my mouse and keyboard to the USB hub in my monitor (Apple Cinema Display 23"). Keyboard and mouse work fine. If I plug in new hardware in my keyboard, it will be recognized. I additionally have connected a USB hub to one of the ports on the back of my G5. Any hardware plugged in there or directly connected directly to the front/back USB ports are not recognized.
How can I reactivate them without restarting my computer?
    Thanks.

I have the exact same problem, exact same hardware. After sleep, all high power USB ports are unavailable, only monitor's USB hub ports function. Putting the machine to sleep and waking corrects the issue. This behavior started once I upgraded to Leopard.

  • USB port gone after ejecting external HDD

    All software uptodate.
I have strange issue with USB ports. After ejecting USB drive (external HDD, powered by USB bus), which worked perfectly, USB port does not recognize anything, nor providing power. Turning MBP off and then booting back solves this issue.
    Any ideas?

After some time I connected external HDD to "dead" port again. And got power. But still no devices recognized on this port. For example: iPad does not charge, not recognized.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • USB ports are not working and I can't figure out what to do!

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx Entertainment Notebook. I've had it for almost three years now. It is running Windows Vista, the same it came with. The problem has only just recently started or was just discovered.
My problem is that the two USB ports in the side do nothing when something is plugged into them. The metal part of the USB devices gets hot but no lights come on the flashdrive and the camera doesn't act like it is plugged in at all. I've looked through Device Manager and it says they are working fine and the correct driver is installed already. There is also no older driver to rollback to. I've tried deleting them, disabling them, and everything that has been suggested online. I even flashed my BIOS from F.33 to F.55, whatever that means, and still nothing.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I am a filmmaker and desperatley need my USB ports. Any help would be appreciated greatly

USB ports must be enabled in order for them to work. If you disabled them it is possible that they still are disabled.
If that is the case, have you tried any of these? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00820529&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
By the way, even though Windows XP troubleshooting may not seem to apply to your situation, sometimes these sorts of errors and problems still happen in Windows Vista. It is rarer but it still happens. One Windows XP based solution can be found here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00035365&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
Also, take a look at power management settings for your USB hub and/or USB ports. If they are enabled, try going to Computer Management, Device Manager, and then right click on the USB ports and select Properties. Following this, click the Power Management tab and uncheck the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and click OK and exit out of Device Manager.
Odd as it seems, sometimes a restart is necessary for this to work completely.
Also, if you have tried removing the USB Hub drivers according to HP methods, you need to make sure that nothing is plugged into the Ports when you remove them. Often, a restart still is necessary even if some techs do not think to instruct you to do so. After a restart, allow the drivers to reinstall--all of them. Sometimes you still will need to restart your computer again afterward. This sometimes takes a few minutes. But, you must in any case make sure that nothing is plugged into the ports.
You may also want to check to see if your computer has specific drivers for your USB ports rather than the generic ones. If so, running the option for restoring drivers in HP Application Recovery will fix this. If they are there you will see the USB drivers listed.
On rare occasion, there is a problem with a device further down the tree than the USB ports and/or USB hubs themselves. These problems are most often fixed by removing the device that controls the USB Hub, such as the devices attached to the PCI Bus and connected to the USB. You will see where these are connected by changing the view to "Devices by Connection" rather than the "Devices by Type" option.
Let me know your status, please, after you have tried these options. If you have already tried them all out, let me know that, too and we can see if there is another option for you to try.

  • Anyone having issues with USB port power after upgrading to iTunes 11.1?

After upgrading to itunes 11.1, I can no longer use the USB ports on my wired keyboard to synch my iPhone 4s, ipod Nano, and Ipad 2.  Previously, I could use this port to synch and charge the nano and iphone, and synch (but not charge) my iPad.  Now I simply get an error when I attach any of the devices ("a usb device needs more power").
I currently use all four of the USB ports on the back of my imac (UPS power supply, aformentioned keyboard, a Lacie backup drive that has its own power supply, and a superdrive).  Interestingly, when I unplug the Superdrive (which is plugged directly into the mac on a separate USB port), the USB port on the keyboard will work.  Unplugging any of the other 2 devices does not allow the port on the  to work.
I bought the wired keyboard to have the easily accessible UBS port to synch my nano as well as the fact I needed a number pad.

  • Ethernet port dead after powerdown

    Hi All;
I have noticed that my Quad is acting strange after I power it down, in that the ethernet port is dead after I power the unit down. By this I mean that I am unable to connect to the network after I power the Quad back up again. I have noticed that the leds on my ethernet hub are not lite after I power the Quad back up again until I remove and reconnect the ethernet cable out of the back of my Quad. Once I do that everything works normally.
I have been using this ethernet hub with both my Powermac G3 and Powermac G4 and never noticed anything like this before.
Anyone have any ideas as to qhy my Quad is acting so strange? Thanks.
    Allan

    Hi bonaroo;
Yes, I tried all of the standard fixes without any luck.
The other day we had a power outage and my DSL router failed to start again once the power returned. I went out and bought a new DSL router. The new one gave me a bunch more information about everything.
When I restarted my Quad I noticed that network tried to start but failed most of the time. With the new router I received a brand new Ethernet cable. So I decided to try it. With the new cable, all of my network problems were gone. It appears the old cable was one I got with my old G3. I think it was CAT 1 or CAT2 maybe. I had it in a bundle of cables behind my desk all tie wrapped together and was too lazy to remove them.
Well as soon as I saw how much better the new cable was, I immediately removed the old and I am tie wrapping everything together again.
It appears my old cable could not do the hand shake with the new gigbit Ethernet card in the Quad.

  • USB ports gone after plugging in my Color LaserJet 2600n

I've posted here with the incident: the printer had worked for 2-3 days with me plugging the USB connection in and out for every print job. Yesterday I got a slight spark and no print done. Tried again, got a second slight spark and no print done. Today I checked other USB devices (external hard disk, flash memory, digital camera) and nothing works.
Ran the Apple Hardware Test and it reports that the Logic Board is fine. Can anyone explain how come I've lost both USB ports on my Powerbook? I only plugged the LaserJet in the left one (both times); never the right one. Sparks only occurred on the left port, not the right one. How come I've lost both ports?
By the way, system.log reports loads of IOUSBFamily errors, and console.log reports multiple lines about Watchdog finding Dead USB (not exact wording).
    Any tips please? I'm baffled.

OK, Stanley, that's what I also thought (even the Subject of my other post suggests that).
But, how come the Apple Hardware Test shows the Logic Board to be OK?
Can I fry both ports by just sparking one of them? I contacted the PowerbookMedic.com guys, and they said the two ports on the Powerbook (the left and the right one) are totally different circuits, and the only way to kill both is by the logic board getting damaged. Which it isn't.
    Tips?

  • My Toshiba Satellite A660 USB ports don't work and the webcam doesn't either.

For some odd reason all my USB ports doesn't work. It worked fine with I got it and this laptop is pretty much new. I also tried to uninstall and install the USB device back but I always get an error saying it didn't work. Any solutions to fix this?
Also, my webcam doesn't work. Every time I log into my laptop I always get this error saying "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer." I have no idea how to fix this. Can anyone help me out please?

For your USB ports, try this one first..
    1. Make sure that the power light is off.
    2. Unplug you AC adapter form your laptop then remove the battery.
    3. Without those two, hold down the power button for 10 seconds then release it. After that put the battery and the AC adapter in.
    4. Turn NB on and just choose start windows normally.
This is the simplest thing that you can do. Basically, the reason behind this is because it will reset the microprocessor on your system board. Try this first then if it failed check these links:
USB port may stop working after you remove or insert a USB device
Tips for solving problems with USB devices
For your webcam, you said it is giving out a message "Web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer.", that means the application is not installed properly. You only need to uninstall it first from Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features (make sure that view should be in large icons) then look for the Web Camera Application (looking at your laptop model I assume it's Toshiba Camera Application) then uninstall it. To reinstall it back, pull up the Toshiba Application Installer by going to Start then type in Toshiba Application Installer. Once you got it pulled up, click on Next Button and look for the application that has a name webcamera from the list and install it.

  • Moved drive to USB Port on Time Capsule and TM no longer sees backups

I moved my FireWire attached HD from a direct attachment to my Mac Pro to attached via the USB port on my Time Capsule. Time Machine now wants to start over, and does not see the previous backups.
The destination drive name did not change, other than the added NAS address.
Is there a way to force TM to use the previous backup set incrementally instead of starting over?
    Thx

unfortunately, it's not that simple. TM treats backups to directly attached drives differently vs. networked ones.

  • USB ports died after BIOS update on Pavilion dv6

I have a Pavilion dv6-03013cl running Windows 7 64-bit. Bought six months ago, and all was fine until this morning.
The HP support assist software told me to update the BIOS, which I did. And then all the USB ports stopped working. In Device Manager, it shows that all have a yellow triangle w/exclamation point. I've got two USB hubs, and into them are two printers, wireless mouse & keyboard, flash drives, and blue tooth adapter.
I just spent two hours on the phone with tech support in India, and he walked me through several possible fixes. System Restore does not work -- no matter what restore point I try, it hangs, taking hours (he said it should take no more than 10 minutes). Through all of this (and the following) all the USB hubs and devices were unplugged. Each step I would try just the flash drive (which works fine in the laptop on my other desk).
Tried uninstalling all the USB ports from Device Manager; that didn't help.
Tried Recovery Manager, but the USB was not on the list.
Tried rebooting hitting F8 to "last known good configuration", which didn't help.
Tried downloading BIOS from HP site, which didn't work.
Finally he told me the only solution is System Recovery, which will send me back to factory settings; meaning I'd need to reinstall all software and data files. I really do not want to do that.
Any suggestions for me would be much appreciated.
