  • My usb port gives power but doesn't work

    Hello,
I have a 13 inch Macbook pro and my usb ports stopped working yesterday they worked fine but today I plugged in my mouse but it didn't work.
It lights up but doesnt work, after that I tried diffrent mouses same problem they light up but no movement. Reset my smc, my pram and updated Macbook to 10.7.5 still nothing. I even tried my HTC ONE X it recharged it but didn't reconize it as a phone. Help would be much apreciated.
Thank you guys and girls in advance.
    Regards,
    Nigel Brown

    Hi Nigel,
Is machine still under warranty? I would try a OS reinstall. But its is highly likely the I/O ports have failed. They will still supply power to peripherals that are connected which is why everything still lights, but machine will not register them. The machine would require a replacement main logic board as I/O ports are connected to it. If your machine has no external damage or liquid damage then you will be covered under warranty. Otherwise it is an expensive repair unfortunately.

  • USB port has power but isn't working

    Hey guys,
One of my usb ports has decided to stop working properly, I'm still able to use peripherals which ONLY require power, an example being my external fan which works fine in that port.
However, I'm unable to use my mouse or any storage device in the port.
The lights(if any) on the devices will light up as normal but will not do much other than that.
I have not made any major changes since the last time the port was successfully used, it has just stopped working.
I've restarted multiple times and the issue persists.
All other usb ports work perfectly normal, no issues.

If any other info is required please let me know.
I'd appreciate any and all help someone may provide in helping me get to the bottom of this.
    Cheers.

    Hello -Brendan-,
I think we should try ALL the drivers. The Chipset drivers are the drivers for your motherboard and the other drivers are for the individual on-board devices. I am thinking we should do your Chipset drivers first and then your on-board drivers. Like building a house we should ensure the foundation is solid before adding the house on top. What I would like you to do is to download and install ALL the drivers from the HP Pavilion dv6-7029tx Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers page. Ensure you download and install the Chipset drivers first, after that it does not matter which order you install the drivers.

  • Usb port has power but wont read macbook pro

I have a macbook pro with 2.4ghz intel core i7 mac os x version 10.7.3  and my USB ports recently stopped working.  They still power drives, but are not reading any information.  It's as if the devices do not communicate, though the powering function of the ports still works.  Any body know what I should do about this?

This is what it says under the system profiler both when something is plugged in and not... in case that makes a difference.

    Hi,
I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.
So please suggest proper direction to use it and provide link to install any driver.
    Thanks
    Tauheed Ahmad

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and  3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Tauheed

  • I have a mac book pro that both USB ports have stopped working one about a year ago and one recently. Is it possible to connect to another one of the other MBP's  ports with a cord that ends with a USB port?

I have a mac book pro that both USB ports have stopped working one about a year ago and one recently. Is it possible to connect to another one of the other MBP's  ports with a cord that ends with a USB port?

Thank you For your time and thoughts!
I went by the Apple Store and they told me that there was a "Flat Rate" repair service for this particular part where they would replace the logic board along with the USB ports for $350. Seems like best avenue. All of this would have been moot but my wifi in the computer also doesn't work so I was using my phone as a hot spot and tethering it to the computer for Internet access when the last port quit. This left me with no internet and no printing capabilities on the computer I use for my business. Basically became a nice paperweight. lol
They will ship it off Monday and I should have it back Thursday!
    Again, thank you!

  • I have full signal power, but says cannot connect to App Store?

I have full signal power, but says cannot connect to App Store. I had put all of my icons in different folders to organize but took App Store out as troubleshoot.
    Any help?

Are you trying to connect via wifi?
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Also try this - Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Satellite C50-A-138 - All USB ports have failed

    Hi
I am having a major issue with my Satellite C50-A-138.
The card reader has never worked, and one by one the USB ports have one by one stopped working.
I can connect my phone to all of them, and it will charge.
But I can't plug any device into the ports and have the laptop recognise them at all.
    So far I have tried the following;
    Disabling and enabling each port
    Uninstalling and reinstalling
    Checking for updates
    Refreshing windows 8
    Reinstalling windows 8
    Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\UsbFlags
    Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\usbhub
    Downloading hotfix
Is there anything else that I can do to make them work again?

    >...I did a full reinstall without settings
What do you mean without settings?
Anyway, try please to install some drive manually just to see if this will help.

  • USB Ports No Power

I have a HP Pavillion dv4-1435dx. I changed the processor on it, ever since my USB ports have no power. • Why would my iPod show a full battery when connected to power but when not connected it will no longer turn on

Why would my iPod show a full battery when connected to power but when not connected it will no longer turn on

    For both
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why are my USB ports are working, but not providing power?

I just got a brand new 15" Macbook Pro and the USB ports appear to be working fine for items that don't require power, but I plugged my Avid Mbox into it and the power light on the Mbox flashes, indicating it is not getting enough power.  The Mbox works fine on my other Macbook Pro (2010 model) and it works on my Imac, but not the new Macbook.  I have a powered hard drive that works fine on the new Macbook, so the USB port is not dead, but just seems to not be supplying power properly for this device that needs it.  I don't have another item which uses the power like this to test, but I wonder if anyone has any idea if this is simply faulty hardware and if there is a conclusive way to test.  As it's literally two days old, I would exchange it if it really isn't working properly.  Only difference between this new Mac and the others is that it's running Lion and the others are running Snow Leopard.

If you have an iPhone or iPod that can be charged by the USB port, then the problem lies with the Mbox and/or the cable attaching it.  If you google the problem (and I hope you did, because there are tons of posts at the various Mac websites about troubles with the Mbox and the MacBook Pro), you'll see people either plug and play with no issues, or they spend a lot of time doing so.  It sounds like you're the latter.
Anyways, if an iPhone or iPod (or anything else that requires USB power to run) doesn't work, then the issue is your MBP.

  • USB ports have no power

It first started happening on my Late 2012 model iMac 21.5" a couple weeks ago.
What I found was that nothing seemed to work when connected directly to the iMac's USB ports. However, if you attach an externally powered USB hub, then all devices attached to the hub will work. So, it seems as if the USB ports are still working, but without power.
After I was able to get my USB keyboard to work using the powered hub, I was able to zap the PRAM by holding command-option-P-R while powering on, and then magically everything was back to working again. Unfortunately, this was short lived as the problem has resufaced again for me.
Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Do I need to send it back to Apple for warranty repair?

Call AppleCare & tell them exactly what you stated in your post.

  • I updated to IOS6 on my IPAD 3 and IPad shows a pic of USB port and ITunes but will connect and/or turn on even when I connect to my computer.

I updated to IOS6 on my IPad and the screen went blank then showed a picture of a USB plug and arrow pointing to ITunes but nothing else happens.  I cannot restore, recover or sync anything....  Please help!

You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
    Or you can follow this.
    Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • USB ports have stopped working on my 975 power up platinum

For some reason the usb ports on the mb & the front of the case antec p160 have stopped working, I have not added anything new or removed anything, the firewire ports are still working though. I have tried removing the usb root hub  restarting the pc and letting windows reinstall the driversbut it does not make any difference. Does any one have any idea what the problem my be.

He means what is in the thread labled "If you're having problems with USB ports, read on...  "
The USB issue has followed several boards. Here is a quote from a post I've made on the subjetct.
    Quote from: Frankeputer
Check to see if there is a wire running from your Front USB ports to the #10 slot of your USB block which connects to the motherboard header.
USB connector block layout which corresponds to the pin layout on boards with the Intel spec for USB. Do not cut the pin on the MOBO. You are removing/cutting the wire to the connector block from the case.
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.
2 posts to read--Here and Here.
This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).
