Hi,
Both ports (next to the headphones port) are USB 3.0 ports and they will fit normal/standard USB flash drives. Please turn the flash drive the right way before insert.
Regards.

  • IPhone 6 won't play with Kenwood stereo USB port. Help !!

I have a Kenwood KDC-BT743U Stereo in my car, which has a front panel USB port.  I've been able to connect my iPhone 4S and play music from my iTunes catalog as well as stream music from Pandora, Soundcloud, Tune In Radio, Mixcloud et al, without any problems until yesterday.....
Now that I've upgraded my phone to a iPhone 6 and when I connect it to the stereo via the USB port, it doesnt play at all.  After about 2 minutes of trying to connect , I recieve a 'USB Error" .   As I stated, I've had no problems with my iPhone 4S, which I've used with this same stereo deck for the last two years without any problem what so ever.
I'm looking for some guidance on next steps to take in order to fix the problem? Did Apple change the spec in some sort of way?  Do I need to go to Kenwood for a firmware update (their website provides no information about iPhone 6 compatability with any of their stereo's which is very odd to me) ?
Please help, my life in the car during long commutes is just not the same......

    Possible Solution:
    1. Go to Settings > General
    2. Go to Restrictions
    3. Enter Passcode (possibly x2)
    4. Enable Restrictions
    5 Disallow CarPlay
    6. Reset Network Settings (Not 100% sure if this step is needed)
    7. Have at least 1 song in Apple Music App
    8. Have Iphone at Home Screen
    9. Connect Apple Original Cable
    10. That 1 Song should start playing
    11. Open Prefered Streaming App and hit Play
Carplay negatively affects USB connection with Non-Carplay USB Audio Receivers.
I have the Iphone 6 with 8.3 iOS connected to Pioneer avh-41000dvd car stereo and the above solution fixed USB audio issues, including Error code 22-65.
If you are having issues upon reconnect, disconnect and bring Iphone to home screen and reconnect.

  • MBP won't boot recovery USB drive, need help

HDD failed on 15" mid2009 MacBook Pro, purchased a Seagate 1TB hybrid drive (SSHD) to replace it with. Went to boot to USB recovery drive with OS X 10.8 using option/alt on boot and would only get the folder with flashing question mark. Tried command+R also. Tried different USB ports. Tried with HDD pulled out. The USB recovery drive does work because we were able to boot to it from a different MBP, and verified the files on it with Disk Utility. Just can't get any kind of recovery options or anything on this Mac with replaced HDD. Need help. Never encountered anything like this, can't find anything like it online, and none of my coworkers can figure it out. We've all been working comps for yrs, one even an ex apple-tech. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Sorry - missed that part about having used both USB ports...
Since you've verified that the USB thumb drive works on another Mac, and that it won't boot whilst holding down the option key, I would advise taking your machine to an Apple Store or an AASP to have them diagnose your machine (which will be free). They, too, should have USB sticks that they can use to test the machine.
    Good luck,

  • HP Pro Book Laptop - Damaged USB ports need replacement

Both USB ports are damaged. One is not working at al and the second one shows signs of failing also.
One local repair shop said these ports are not worthwhile to repair because of the cost. This has never happened before on the dozen computers I have owned in the past. This is my first experience with an HP computer.
    Please advise

Laptop USB ports are not user replaceable.  If the repair shop says it is not worth it, then either the laptop is real old or they do not want the work.  Model number please.

  • USB port problems: Help welcomed.

When plugging any of my iPods into the computer via the USB port, I receive no reaction.
A half-way full battery becomes frozen on the iPod and that is the absolute only reaction I get get.
I've tried using different USB ports on this computer and have even switched the cables I was connecting with to no avail.
My iPods can all be charged using the wall charger. It is almost as if the computer is not recognizing the cable.
That said, I have had iPods for quite sometime (my first was a 20GB) and have never been faced with this problem before.

It sounds like your iPhone 4S is not charging when plugged in.  I found an article with some steps that might help with this.  I recommend reviewing the steps in the sections titled "Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter" and "Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off" in the following article:

  • Damaged USB Ports - Need solution

    Hello,
I am having a problem with my Macbook Pro 13-inches Early 2011           OS X Version 10.7.5           Processor 2.3 CHz Intel Core i5          Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3          Startup Sisk Macintosh HD
Since about a year I noticed that one of my two USB ports stopped functioning as when Iwould  plug some device through it (i.e. flash memory card, external har disk, or whatever it may be,) there was no reaction on the mac. A few months back the same problem developed with the other USB port. I especially noticed this when iTunes would suddenly appear to not identify my iPhone. However, I noticed that if I press hard on the USB cable head and keep pressing, the computer was able to read the device.
I do not know what could have been the cuse of this damage. I was told that it was due to my personal usage. I took my macbook to a mac specialist workshop and it was figured that the only solution would be to replace the USB ports with new ones while maintaining the same motherboard. However, I refused to continue when I saw the quotation (300 euros) for the job. It seams too much to pay for a macbook tht's rather a bit old.
My daily work requires that I tranfer fils back and forth to USB cards for printing, as well as archive and backup files on external hard disks. Any ideas or solutions that could get this type of job done would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Titanium and USB ports - need more

My wife has one of these great compouters! There are only 2 USB ports in which she currently has the mouse and a musical keyboard named Eiderol plugged. Both device get power from the USB port. I just got her a HP LasrJet 1022 printer, which is also a USB device. However, it does not draw its power from the port.
What I want to do is install a hub or some other device that will allow me to use the 3 devices on the 2 ports. Can someone please recommend a solution?
    Many thanks in advance

Your best bet is to go with a PC Card (PCMCIA Card) with USB ports. For not a lot of cash you'll be able to not only add more USB ports to your TiBook, but you'll also be able to add USB 2.0, which is significantly faster than the TiBook's typical USB ports. And USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB 1.0 devices. Finally, many of today's perhipherals use USB 2.0 to connect, since it's also faster than even Firewire 800.
I think that you can get PC Cards that include USB 2.0 AND Firewire 800,if I'm not mistaken. Here's a link to a very good, informative post in these forums on this topic:

  • Gcc4.5, lapack/blas libraries, fink/mac ports  - need help

I have been compiling a model for my research on our lab's Linux cluster, and want to switch to running in on my macbook (osx 10.5.8). I have to set user-specified fc and cc overrides, flags for lapack and blas libraries, and env. variables for mpi and netcdf libraries.
I just installed xcode; a colleague suggested I install the latest gcc 4.5 (w/ gfortran) using fink, but I have been reading on Apple's Developer Forum's that packaging / porting managers like fink can cause problems.... This is all very new ground for me, so I don't even know whether I can access unix-based lapack and blas libraries w/o fink or mac ports. I should probably buy a leopard bible...
if i ultimately have to have either fink or mac ports to link lapack and blas libraries, any suggestions on which direction to go?

It would probably be easier if you had 10.6.2. Any open-source libraries that Apple includes are going always going to be a bit older.
a colleague suggested I install the latest gcc 4.5 (w/ gfortran) using fink
MacOS X isn't like Linux. You don't want to do what a typical Linux user might do and just grab the latest of everything and let your package manager update all the dependencies automatically. It may work fine. I will definitely give you a set of duplicate libraries and configure an environment that might never have been tried on Mac before. If your results are incorrect, you can't blame Apple.
I don't even know whether I can access unix-based lapack and blas libraries w/o fink or mac ports. I should probably buy a leopard bible...
I don't know if the Leopard Bible will help very much. Developer questions are pretty specific. This is a good place to start. The Apple Mailing Lists are another good resources. Apple also just dramatically lowered the price of their Mac developer program to $99. It comes with two free tech support instances per year.
Also, and this is the important part, both lapack and blas libraries ship with the OS. They are already on your machine. There is no need to get anything from Fink or MacPorts. I don't know much about those libraries, but the versions that come with MacOS X may be optimized by Apple. See this link for more information.
if i ultimately have to have either fink or mac ports to link lapack and blas libraries, any suggestions on which direction to go?
That is an easy one. http://www.finkproject.org/ or http://www.macports.org/
I would encourage you to try to use what Apple ships with the OS before trying to replace it. That way, if there are bugs, Apple will look into it. If you use some 3rd party, Apple won't care - even if they are the same Apple bugs. Plus, you could then more easily develop with Xcode because you wouldn't have to hack up everything to use the fink/macports environment.

  • MIDI/USB moron needs help!

    Hi all
I am desperately struggling with Logic Pro 7 and hooking up MIDI/USB devices.
I have a Mackie Control Universal connected via an Edirol UM-2. I also have a Keystation 61es and an Akai MPD-16 that are hooked up by USB.
The problem is that, sometimes, the Mackie will start making keyboard noises, the keyboard will affect the transport, etc.
How do I troubleshoot this? The Edirol is installed fine in the Mac MIDI device set up. The Keyboard is plug-and-play.
I moved from Mac to PC last year and thought it would be near the end of device conflicts, etc. but I am confused and frustrated. Any help welcome!
    Thanks.
    Steve

I also removed the MIDI devices in MIDI Set Up. The MCU
immediately re-appeared in Logic and worked fine with
nothing else connected. It's connected to Out Port 1 and Input 1.
So "Port 1" is the MIDI ports on your Edirol audio interface? And the MCU is connected to this MIDI port both ways, and works fine. Ok, good so far.
In all posts, can we refer to the full name so we know what we are talking about? Ie "Edirol:Port 1".
Then I added, the keyboard, fine, no problem.
Ok, the keyboard, being a USB device, effectively sets up it's own MIDI port to send MIDI data into the computer (via USB). And that works fine. Presumably this sends on something like "Keystation:Port 1".
Then the MPD16 which appeared in the MIDI set up immediately.
Ok, again, this shoulod setup its own MIDI port. "MPD:Port 1"
Oddly, though, it wouldn't respond to the Test Setup, although the
    Forget test setup, it's useless.
other two items do. It responded to plug-ins in Logic but with the
MPD and the Keystation, is it right that they both do the same
thing in terms of button presses? I.e., if I select one of the k
eyboard plug-ins, they both work - or should they somehow
be on different channels (if so, how?)?
Whoah! Slow down! Lets not get ahead of ourselves.
Assuming both devices are now connected and working, lets take a look at them. AFAIK, both devices are merely remote controllers - they basically send MIDI data into the computer.
So yes, if you hit a key on the keyboard, that sends a C1 note on (say) MIDI channel 1, it will be exactly the same as if you hit a pad on the MPD that sends a C1 note on channel 1. They are simply two ways of sending the same thing into Logic.
By default, Logic sums all MIDI data arriving into Logic, before sending it to the sequencer - Logic doesn't care if data is coming in from the MPD or the keyboard, it all looks the same. One exception is MIDI data on a MIDI port that Logic thinks is a control surface - this is handled separately from "regular" MIDI data.
This is fine so far. I'm trying to solve your MCU going crazy before teaching you how to best use your devices.
So at this point, everything, MCU included, is working fine?
So, yeah, I've had it working like this before and then,
suddenly, it all seems to ** up.
Ok, try and note when this happens. Maybe it's fine until you restart the computer, and then it goes t*ts up? Or maybe when you turn one device off and back on. If you can associate the problem with an action, that makes it easier to narrow in on the cause.
I must have something wrong in the chain in the MIDI setup
Well, if all you've done is what you say so far, then nothing seems wrong that I can see.
all devices say they are on Port 1 (e.g. Connectors for MPD - Midi in 1).
Again, "MPD:Port 1" is a separate MIDI port from "Edirol:Port 1" and "Keystation:Port 1". They are three separate MIDI ports that your computer sees, and Logic will have "Edirol:Port 1" reserved for the control surface, the MCU, so you should not put any further MIDI devices on that one - which you haven't anyway, so that is fine.
Oddly, the MPD has two options under Ports - MPD16 (internal)
and MPD16Private (internal). I don't know the difference.
Presumably, the manual will explain this. I would guess (it's quite common) that if the MPD has a MIDI IN socket on the unit, that it acts as a MIDI interface itself - so any MIDI events the MPD generates get sent to the computer (via USB) on an internal MIDI port, and any events sent by units connected the MIDI sockets on the MPD get sent on a sepate MIDI port.
(So you could feasibly connect the MCU via the MIDI IN and OUT on your MPD if it has both of those, but let's leave this alone for now.)
So in summary: you are doing everything correct that I can say, and everything is working good for now? Cool. Both USB MIDI devices are sending MIDI data in on their own ports, which is separate from the Edirol ports that the MCU is rigged up on. This is all rigged up correctly as far as I can see.
So, watch out for when/if things go wrong, and make note of what you were doing just beforehand, and post back.

For apps you need at least iOS 2. The last update for the 1G is 3.1.3 that you  get here:

However, there are not that many apps compatible with the 1G even with 3.1.3.

    Hello,
My iPhone 4 got version 4.2.1 but when i go to computer > properties >device management then i see: Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver.
I know that it is in dfu mode but i really dont know how i can get out of here. I tried everything what i can do i tried now 3 days to fix this but i dont have any results. My iphone 4 wont turn on but when i connect it with my computer than it says it is in recovery mode. So does anyone know how i fix Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver??????????

    Jailbreaking is bad mmmkay.
To get it out of DFU, generally hold down both the Power/Wake button and the Home button together for ten seconds, then release the Power/Wake button and keep holding Home until the White Apple shows up on screen. (Literally the same thing you would have done to put it into DFU in the first place..)

  • My display is black but all of the power is working and usb ports please help

I HAVE MY DISPLAY PLUGGED UP AND IT JUST HAS A BLACK SCREEN BUT EVERYTHING IS WORKING ON THE ACTUAL DISPLAY PLEASE HELP

    Hello there Kevin,
I was researching the issue you describe and found 2 resources that may help. First there is this section from Apple Cinema Display: Troubleshooting steps found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2810
    No image on the screen
Make sure the computer is turned on.
Make sure the power cord is plugged in properly.
Make sure the display cables are connected to your computer properly.
Make sure the DVI or Mini DisplayPort display cable is connected securely.
Make sure your computer is not in sleep mode.
Make sure the brightness is set properly. The brightness control is under the right front edge of the display.
Check for and install all available software updates. Software updates may provide solutions to many common issues.
Note: If the display power cord is plugged into a grounded wall outlet or power strip, find out if power to the outlet has been interrupted. You can test the outlet by plugging in something that you know works, like a desk lamp or radio.
If those steps don't get the display working then here is another article, with some pretty in depth troubleshooting for displays named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays from http://http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
