USB ports no longer working after 10.4.7 update

Hi, I ran the latest update (10.4.7) on my machine which is a G4 Quicksilver PowerPC. I have an Apple 17 inch flat screen display that has two USB ports attached. I had my keyboard plugged into one of the USB ports on my flat screen. After the update both USB ports on the flat panel no longer work! I can use the USB ports directly off the G4 itself and it works fine. Has anyone seen this issue? I guess I am stuck now until Apple decides to fix this?
Thanks,
Rob

In my experience, the USB ports on the back of an Apple monitor can be re-enabled simply by unplugging and plugging back in the device in question. You might also check to see that the USB Monitor hub shows up in System Profiler. My Apple monitor USB ports experienced no changes in moving to 10.4.7.

  • Some USB ports no longer working after installing Mountain Lion?

    Some of my USB ports are no longer working after installing Mountain Lion onto my 21' 2011 iMac. I used to plug in my iphone 4S and charge it, or transfer files onto my iPad but none of the ports no longer work to do this. Funnily enough, other equipment plugged into the works. I have tried changing the cable. Any ideas?

  • Epson printer driver no longer working after 10.4.11 update

    It seems that my original Epson driver for my Stylus Photo 750 is no longer working after my latest Tiger update. The system does recognise it but shows an exclamation mark behind it and refuses to print with it (the document stays in the waiting line forever). Reinstalling as well as repairing permissions didn´t help. Fortunately the Gimp Epson driver is still working but I have no access to my coloursync profiles with this driver.
    I know that many printer drivers need to be rewritten for Leopard (one of the reasons I didn´t update yet) but it is not understandable why problems happen with a Tiger update.
    Does anyone know a workaround?
    Thanks very much
    Wolfgang

    I just discovered a similar problem. I have an old Epson SC3000 and under 10.4.11 my computer doesn't communicate with the printer. It's an AppleTalk printer, connected via Ethernet. I tried bypassing my network switch and connected it directly to the Mac-- no go. I then rebooted into 10.3.9 and printing works fine.
    I downloaded the driver from Epson and installed it in 10.4.11. When I try to add the printer in the Printer Setup Utility, the machine just hangs-- can't force quit the utility and eventually the Finder even stops responding. It takes a hard reboot to clear up.
    I can't say whether or not printing worked in earlier versions of 10.4. I haven't been using 10.4 for very long, and I rarely use the SC3000.

  • USB ports don't work after resuming from standby with Windows 8 on X230 tablet

    I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 on my X230 tablet.  Before installing Windows 8 I installed the most recent BIOS for this machine (version 2.50).  After installing Windows 8 I installed System Update from the Lenovo Website and downloaded all the recommended drivers and other files.  I've also installed all the latest Windows 8 updates.
    Here are the symptoms of my problem: After resuming from standby/sleep mode, my USB ports do not work.  My computer has two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 ports.  All exhibit the same behavior.  After resuming from standby mode I have tried inserting both my mouse and a USB thumbdrive, but neither are recognized.  After restarting Windows, the USB ports work again... until I resume from standby mode again.
    I hope there is a solution to this issue.  It is very frustrating.

    Thanks for the suggestion about tweaking the "Allow this computer to turn off this device" feature.  I un-checked that box for every entry I could find under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in the Devide Manager.  Unfortunately, the same symptoms of my problem persisted.
    I went back and looked at the README file associated with the BIOS 2.50 download on Lenvo's support site.  At the bottom of the file it gives a "Summary of Changes".  Under version 2.03 of the BIOS (the version just before version 2.50), it says:
    - (Fix) Fixed an issue where USB device might not detected when system resume from sleep mode.
    This indicates that Lenovo support was already aware of such issues.  The problem was intended to be fixed in version 2.03 of the BIOS.  However, the issue persists on my machine, even with the latest BIOS.
    Hopefully someone from Lenovo can comment here.

  • [SOLVED] USB 3G no longer works after upgrade to GNOME 3.8

    I did the 'big' update today, including upgrading to GNOME 3.8. Unfortunately, NetworkManager no longer picks up my 3G USB modem (which used to work fine before the update). Any pointers as to how I could debug this would be greatly appreciated.
    wvdial has never really worked for me, but gnome networkmanager used to pick up my device and the connection, and now simply acts as if it's no longer present. Attempting to follow the instructions on the wiki to re-setup my USB stick (the instructions I followed in the first place) no longer works. Did today's update cause the same problem for anybody else?
    **Update: After updating today to modemmanager 0.7.990-4 and running
    sudo systemctl enable ModemManager
    sudo systemctl start ModemManager
    I have full connectivity again with the built-in DW5550 mobile broadband card in my Dell Precision M6600 (including showing signal strength in the GNOME 3.8 top bar, etc). Thanks all for the help, and (most importantly) to whoever fixed up modemmanager!

    wvdial might also be a workaround, if one does not like to downgrade. In my case, I had to unset my PIN on the SIM card first. One can do that using a mobile phone, for example.
    Then
    # pacman -S wvdial
    in /etc/wvdial.conf, I put
    [Dialer Defaults]
    Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
    Modem Type = Analog Modem
    ISDN = 0
    Stupid Mode = 1
    Dial Attempts = 3
    Init1 = ATZ
    [Dialer huawei]
    Modem = /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ZTE_Incorporated_1_1_Surf-stick_MF19001MOD010000-if02-port0
    Baud = 115200
    [Dialer voda]
    Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","web.vodafone.de"
    [Dialer dial]
    Phone=*99**1#
    Username = umts
    Password = umts
    You can find out your modem name by looking it up with
    ls /dev/serial/by-id/
    In my case there were names containing the strings if00, if01 and if02, and if02 turned out to be the correct one. This depends on hardware.
    Also, in the "Init 3" line, you may have to replace "web.vodafone.de" according to your provider. The section "dial" seems to be quite universal from what I read on the web, so you may not have to change that.
    then
    # wvdial huawei voda dial
    and hope for the best.
    Disclaimer: I do not have a comprehensive understanding of what I did here, but it worked in my case and it might work for you, too.
    I noticed that the Defaults section makes a difference, because the one I just edited in above avoids some delay in dialing.

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard and USB ports no longer work completely

    Hi!
    So my wife is using my older (from 2007) 15in macbook pro. We just installed Snow Leopard (from Tiger) and the USB ports are no longer functioning correctly.
    Previously, intermittently (between restarts) one of the USB ports wouldn't work well, but restarts always fixed it. This would happen maybe once or twice a month.
    Currently, neither the left or right USB port work well. Both will run a USB mouse and charge an iphone, but neither will recognize the phone or a card reader as plugged in.
    We've tried restarting. Tried turning off, unplugging, removing the battery and holding down the power for 5 seconds and restarting.
    Nothing is working. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix it?
    (The iphone is recognized by my macbook pro, so it's not the wire or the phone, at least as far as we can tell.)
    Thank you kindly in advance.

    I think it's time you upgraded to a newer version of Photoshop.

  • T420 USB Ports do not work after installing XP

    Hello my office has  been using Lenovo's for some time now but we recently purchased a T420 and installed Windows XP SP3 on it.  The issue we are having is that the uSB ports do not work.  I have tried every driver I can find but still no luck, can anyone help?

    hey chris0277,
    could you check in Device Manager and see if there is any ? or ! symbol on the USB area.
    If there is, i do recommend uninstalling the drivers from it and then visit http://support.lenovo.com and update your unit

  • Many Apps are no longer working after webOS 1.4 update! - please help!

    Hi,
    Many of my previously working Palm Pre Apps are no longer working after the webOS 1.4 update.
    Here are the ones that just return a blank/white screen after launching so far:
    SplashID
    Daily Devo
    Daily Light (Love)
    Absolute Fitness (some options no longer work correctly & are returning a white screen and some options are working)
    These are just a few of the Apps that I am having problems with and there are probably many others.  I have also sent emails/posted to forums on the developer sites to advise. Hopefully I will hear something back soon.
    Anyone else experiencing this issue as well with any Apps?
    Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

    SplashID on my Sprint Pre is showing just a blank screen after starting it and entering my password.  I see no update for it in the App Catalog.
    EDIT: Never mind.  It appears that it only did that on the first launch.  I closed it and restarted it, and now the screen in SplashID is correct.

  • USB Hub(s) no longer working after 10.8.5 update

    Installed the 10.8.5 update via software update on my iMac 3.4Ghz i7 (no DVD drive) and had the Bluetooth unavailable issue I have seen mentioned elsewhere. Managed to restore Bluetooth via a restartwith all USB devices disconnected. However I have two USB hubs that no longer work. One is a colourful freebie so maybe not a surprise but the other is a powered D link USB 2.0 DUB-H7 which worked fine before the update. Now no device that is connected to it is recognized no matter which USB port the hub  is plugged in to. Leaves me somewhat short of USB ports.

    I've been struggling with this for 2 days, since I upgraded to 10.8.5 which I needed to go to get the latest iTunes, which I needed to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS7 . . . yes, right down the garden path I walked
    MacBook Pro 17", early 2009.
    After the 10.8.5 upgrade Bluetooth is Not Available, same as seanluck13.
    -System Preferences: no sign of Bluetooth
    -System Search: no sign of Bluetooth
    -System Profile Information: Bluetooth: No Information Found
    -So Bluetooth is absent, removed, not present -- AGHHHHH!!!!!
    Apple BT keyboard and trackpad can't be used. MacBook trackpad is worn out and I get wrist strain trying to activate it!
    I read on a forum that a fix was to reinstall the system over the internet after a CMD-OPT-R restart. Did that -- 5 HOURS LATER -- NO CHANGE, BLUETOOTH STILL ABSENT !@(%&( )TY(@Q#*!!
    Please someone help me before I throw this Mac down the garbage shoot. At the moment that's only a fantasy.

    one of usb port in my macbook pro havent work after i ve updated latest security update for osx 10.7.5, how do i know what is cause that usb port is good or bad

    On a Mac running v10.7.2, the only way to reinstall Safari is to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery.
    Safari 5.1.1 is for Snow Leopard. It will not run on a Mac with v10.7 installed.

  • USB device no longer works after 10.6.5 patch

    After installing the patch for 10.6.5 Thursday, my Belkin N52te no longer works. It has previously worked fine, and the system extension for it was able to see it, but now it says "No device connected". I have tried re-installing the driver, and 75% through the installation I get a message that the xxx.kext file was not installed correctly. I get this each time I attempt to re-install it.
    This gamepad has worked flawlessly for me since purchase in spring of '09 prior to this.
    Please don't tell me to update the driver, as Belkin's "latest" is Feb 09. I have contacted Belkin, and am waiting for a response.
    I found a suggestion of finding the old usb.kext file from the system backup I have on a second drive, and replacing the current one with it. If anyone thinks this will work, could they give me the exact name of the file to look for?
    It seems odd that Apple, after trying to get the Mac accepted as a viable gaming machine, should put out a patch that breaks one of the most widely used "speedpads" on the market. I have been an avid World of Warcraft player for close to 6 years now. The enjoyment I receive while playing WoW has been the driving reason for me to purchase 2 top of the line Mac Pro's in the past 4 years. Come on Apple, fix this, please!?
    Thanks,
    Dan K.

    February 2009? Snow Leopard wasn't even out yet. It is lucky it has worked for a year and a half.
    Come on Apple, fix this, please!?

    While this may work, that's a jalopy of a solution. It might break in the next update, not being up to date itself, and some other extension might be dependent on it. Best to downgrade until you can get assurance that it will work with 10.6.5, if this is an important feature for you. You can either recover your backup, or if not available, see this tip:

  • USB Ports don't work after sleep mode on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

    I have been using my laptop for about a month without a problem, but over the last week or two I have had a problem where I lose access to all of my USB ports when resuming from sleep mode. If I go into hybernate or restart the computer, the ports
    miraculously return. The techs at the manufacturer can't figure it out and wanted me to do a full system restore, which is a little too drastic a solution! The only real thing I can connect it to, is I had to use Virtual PC (XP) around the time this
    started.

    Hi Greg,
    Microsoft has been fixed this problem, but it is not successful with all PC/Notebook manufacturers. So, the OEM developers itself started giving patch for this issue. I have seen the patch upto Windows Vista version. Lenovo, HP, Dell and other people
    are providing this patch. Sony is providing this patch for some selective models. Go to sony support, enter or auto detect your model and check for the update. With Windows 7 SP1 your USB drives should work properly.
    Anyway, check the below sony support link to understand how to wake up a USB drive after sleep in Vista, Do the equivalent modification in your Windows 7 PC registry. It will work for you.

    ... (errors repeat)
    If I try to 'mount' it as root I get:
    mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb2,
    missing codepage or helper program, or other error
    In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
    dmesg | tail or so.
    The drive is OK. I was able to use it on other computers, reiserfsck showed no errors. Also my computer is OK, and I was able to mount the drive using some old arch linux cd.
    The system is 64-bit, I use the default kernel (3.9.2-1-ARCH x86_64). I wonder, what could be missing in my configuration?
    I'm able to use other USB pendrives, hard disks, mouse with no problems

    For comparison, I attach dmesg log from another computer, which sees the drive normally:

    The computer which doesn't open the drive is fairly old (AMD Athlon 64, MSI K8T Neo2). I wonder, maybe there is some module or firmware that has been recently dropped from the default setup, that I need to install separately?

  • USB ports no longer working on EliteBook 8560W

    I have an EliteBook 8560W notebook running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit. My friendly IT department was trying to fix a webcam driver, installed various sdriver and system updates, and ended up giving it back to me in worse condition than when I gave it to them.
    The current state is that the ports on the right side (USB 3.0) both work, but the ports on the left side (USB 2.0) do not, nor do the ports on the dock.
    Another point of data is that in the Device Manager, there are two "Unknown Devices" with the same ID: USB\VID_8087&PID_0024&REV_0000
    I've tried various combinations of reinstalling drivers as recommended by various websites I've found, but nothing has worked.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    This is not advised....you should use your P/N and look on the HP driver site to find the right drivers for your laptop.
