USB ports not working in Windows-7 on MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 after Bootcamp installation

1) INSTALLATION
Using Bootcamp (v. 5.1.1, OS X Mavericks) in combination with an original Microsoft installation DVD disc using an external optical CD/DVD drive. Note, the installation is NOT from an ISO image. In the Bootcamp setup window only the lower two of the three setup options are clicked, namely a) to download Windows-7 drivers to a USB stick, and b) to partition the harddrive and then to install Windows.
2) PROBLEM
After the initial Windows-7 installation no devices attached to the USB ports can be found under Windows-7. The ports are dead. Also the WLAN did not work, so no internet connection was possible.
3) CAUSE
The problem is caused when you use a USB 3.0 stick as destination for the Bootcamp driver downloads. It seems that Windows-7 cannot recognize the USB 3.0 stick properly during the Bootcamp/Windows installation process, thus failing to do perform a proper installation of the Windows-7 drivers.
4) SOLUTION
Use a USB 2.0 stick and everything will work perfectly.
Follow these steps in order:
1) Connect your external DVD drive to a USB port and insert the Windows installation disc
2) Start the Bootcamp utility
3) In Bootcamp, remove the failed Windows-7 installation and partition
4) In Bootcamp, redo the entire Bootcamp process, but this time using a USB 2.0 stick
5) Follow all further steps in Bootcamp and later in the Windows-7 installation process
6) At the end of the installation procedures you will be asked to confirm the installation of all Bootcamp/Windows drivers.
7) Bootcamp installs all the drivers and your Windows-7 installation will work perfectly.

Ok, where is this Intel driver? There is no such thing "program manager" so I am guessing you mean the Programs and features control panel, but on my machine that whole window is blank after a clean install. I still cannot get the USB ports to activate. Two fresh installs and several different USB sticks later and no luck.  Should I just give up and go to Windows 8.1?  I really need Windows 7 to work if at all possible. Other devices shows one USB controller without driver software so I suppose that's the culprit. There are other USB devices installed under the USB section of Device Manager, but they apparently have nothing to do with the USB ports themselves, just devices like the trackpad etc.  I've spent two hours on this so far and it's getting out of control.  Why doesn't this work with generic USB drivers?

  • Windows 7 on MacBook Pro Retina late 2013. Showing popup window as "Windows detected a hard disk problem"

I have installed Windows 7 64 bit version in my MacBook Pro Retina(13") late 2013 model . It was working fine from last 8 months but recently popup window showing as "Windows detected a hard disk problem" once login. Please check the following image.
I have contacted Apple Support team. They have tested the hard disk while booting from Mac OS and all the reports showing as hard disk is fine. Then I thought might be it was some virus and removed the Bootcamp partition and re-installed Windows 7 Operating System. But once updated Windows 7 with latest updates. This message showing again.
Would you please help me out to fix this issue. Anybody faced similar issue?

No I think that all drive are really on failure
I've boot with an ubuntu livecd and smartmontools see also the failure.

Now the big question is : Why I've this type of issue with 2 MBA and 1 Macbook pro 15".
Their configurations are the same : windows 7 with truecrypt.
Maybe Windows drastically reduces the lifetime of the Apple SSD drive.
The 3 Mac are used for less than 6 month !!!!

  • Question on using bootcamp and windows on 15" macbook pro retina (late 2013)

So i just bought a new macbook pro 15" retina (late 2013) and i want to play games on it like LOL, WOW, and SC2. i was wondering if i really need to play them on bootcamp using windows 7.

Open Boot Camp Assistant (in Utilities) print out the instructions, setup Windows on its own partition, insall and run Windows natively, not much difference than on any laptop.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 Compatibility issue with Bose Companion 5 USB Speakers on Mavericks

Hi, I wonder if somebody has compatibility issues of new MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) and Bose Companion 5 USB speakers? They work fine on a left USB port on my MacBook Pro, but doesn't work at all on a right one: USB speakers are not recognised or if recognised as "Uknown Audio Device", they doesn't work any way and iTunes stops playing till I take USB cable out.
I tested them already on two identical machines - the same issue: left USB port works fine, right one - not.
While comparing, I tested this audio device also with other MacBooks:
MacBook Pro 15" 2008 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook 13" 2010 (Mountain Lion) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook Pro 13" Retina early 2013 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
So it is somehow related exactly to the MacBook Pro Retina 15" Retina late 2013 with Maverics. I guess some sound card and USB port communication issue. Does any body exeriences such problems as well?

    Hi,
Im having USB problems with storage devices and android phone connections
    Thanks

  • I have Windows 8.1 installed on my Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) and it keeps on crashing with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSOD error

I have Windows 8.1 installed on my Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) and it keeps on crashing with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSOD error. Is this an issue with the bootcamp driver not compatible with Windows 8.1? or is there something I can do to fix this.
I also keep getting WHEA-Logger Event-ID 19 warning events in the Windows Event Logs with the following details.
A corrected hardware error has occurred.
    Reported by component: Processor Core
    Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
    Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error

likely win8.1 dont have official bootcamp support yet
1/3 of my logins into win8.1 result in a fatal bluescreen
was the same deal when I installed win8 before official support
and when the drivers with official support was released the issue went away

  • Installed Yosemite update on MacBook Pro retina late 2013 will not boot flashing folder with ?

I just Installed Yosemite update on MacBook Pro retina late 2013 will not boot flashing folder with ?

dunno, Lynn--maybe Etrecheck. trying running disk utility to verify the status of your hard drive. That may give you a basic idea. Perhaps tech tool pro.  As for it running hot, I can't say for sure. try shutting it down and using a vacuum clearner +crevice tool around the back of it.  It's been my experience that hard drives usually fail without a lot of warning, luckily you have a backup. Afterwards you can say "Yup, that went bad".  I've done a little research and found out that your MacBook Pro doesn't come with a conventional hard drive as such, but an SSD (solid state device) . It's upgradeable (up to 1 TB ) but not cheaply
go here for more info (OWC) :http://eshop.macsales.com. For right now, I'd recommend resetting the SMC/PMU, maybe zapping the pram . to do that, reboot, hold down Apple+Option, P+R keys while rebooting. Hold down for 3 chimes, let go and let it boot. as for the SMC thing....
I'm assuming your battery isn't removeable-shut down computer, plug in MagSafe cable . On built in keyboard, on left side, press Shift-Control-Option and power button at the same time.  release all the keys and the power button. press power button again to turn on computer
    that is all

  • WD 1TB not recognised on 13" macbook pro retina (late 2013) even though it is exFAT file structure. The same drive is recognised on iMac and an old Dell laptop. I also have a seagate 2TB external hard drive (powered) that is recognised by my macbook pro.

I just bought a late 2013 macbook pro retina 13" a few days ago. I am trying to transfer all my music from my old Dell laptop. I formatted by 1TB Western Digital MyPassport to exFAT to allow read and write on both operating systems. The 1TB WD My Passport is recognised by both my Dell and iMac but not my new macbook pro retina 13 (late 2013).  My 1TB WD My Passport is USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 backward compatability. Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

  • Using Intel graphics in Windows on Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013 ?

I own a Macbook Pro Retina 15" Late 2013 with Nvidia GT750M graphics.
On Windows, the power consumption and heat production is noticeable higher than on OSX.
People said this is due the Nvidia GT750M being constantly used, because there is officially no way to switch to the more power saving Intel Graphics on Windows.
I have found a extremely tricky way to switch the graphics, but unfortunately I have no idea how I do this:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=696523&page=40
Does someone know a easier way to do it or can explain it step-by-step ?
I'd appreciate this very much if I could have a longer battery life on Windows
    Thank you.

  • Not getting the advertised battery life on Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013

Hello world, This is my first time on the forum and I finally have a question to post lol.
So I just got Macbook Pro Retina and its only like 1 month old and Ive been getting really crappy battery life.
Im only getting about 4 hours and 35 mins on a full charge not the advertised 9 hours like Apple says.
What should I do to bring it to that?

Depends on what you are using.

  • USB Ports Not Working - L530 (Windows 8 - 64 Bit)

I was recently having problems with the USB ports and SD Card reader on my laptop coming out of hibernation.  I had to start the Lenovo Solutions Center and run the Hardward Check and they would start working.  Then, programs would start hanging in the middle of operation so I called the Lenovo support.  They suggested I upgrade the BIOS.
Now that I have upgraded the BIOS, the applications still hang mid processing, but I cannot get my USB drivers working again.  I have tried turning them on in the hardward and devices menu, without success.  I have refreshed the whole computer and reset the settings to default in the setup utility.  The only thing I haven't done is start from scratch with the recovery disks because I want to make a backup, which I can't do without the USB drive working.
Does anyone have any ideas that I can try?

    Hi, ralbritton
There are two things I would try to see if they alleviate this issue: Firstly, I would go to the BIOS of the system and make sure that the USB ports are set to Enabled under Security ► I/O Port Access. Secondly, I would attempt to boot the system into Safe Mode and try to use the USB ports in this mode. If the USB ports do not work under these conditions then it is likely that the motherboard is going bad, which can also explain the hanging programs to an extent. If this turns out to be the case, then I would give Lenovo Support a call at 1-800-426-7378 and discuss a motherboard replacement.
To boot into Safe Mode into Windows 8:
When in Windows, open the Charms Bar from the right.
    Select Settings
    Select Power
While holding down the left shift key, click Restart
Continue to hold down the left shift key until a menu appears.
    Select Troubleshoot
    Select Advanced Options
    Select Startup Settings
    Click Restart
Select Safe Mode from the list that appears after boot (should be #4)
    Best of luck,
    Adam

  • Why does power nap time machine backup not work on my August 2012 macbook pro retina?

Hello. I got a MacBook Pro with retina display in August of this year 2012. I have done the SMC ? firmware update and I have 10.8.2 installed on my machine. Power nap still doesn't seem to work. I have the button in energy saver preferences and I have clicked it so it looks like power nap should work. When I am running Time Machine backup with the time capsule and I close the lid (plugged into power) it appears that no progress is made when I reopen the lid. I have closed the lid with activity monitor running and with network displayed. When I reopen the lid it may take up to one minutes to come out of sleep. When it does come out  of sleep I can see that there has been no network traffic.  Eventually, time machine backup resumes and I can see several megabytes per second. When I closed the lid overnight, just to make sure backup didn't restart after lid closing, I saw that no progress had been made in backup when I reopened the lid.
What options are left if I already have 10.8.2 and I have done the required firmware?  One person has mentioned a clean install but I really don't like to have to reenter all the different passwords and all the different preferences again unless that's absolutely necessary. Are there any other options left to try before a clean install?
One other bit of information.  I have filevault turned on; however, it looks like others have a working power nap even with file vault enabled.  If this is not an option, the power nap button should be grayed out when the machine is in filevault.
    Thank you for any help.

Yeah I still have the same problem BTW; it still does not work.
The second I open the lid and take it out of sleep mode, it starts to backup automagically, but when it's sleeping EVEN when it's connected to AC power, TM backups do NOT work to my OS X Server.
I don't understand what the problem is here.
I didn't before but I do have FileVault turned on now -- should that make a difference?
In either situation it didn't work, but now that I think about it, I could understand why it wouldn't backup while asleep.  Apparently the encrypted volume will stay encrypted during sleep and even at the lock screen; it's not until you open the lid and log in from the lock screen that it will unlock the encrypted boot volume.
But even still, I did *not* have FV turned on before, and this still did not work.
Is there some third party solution that can do what I want this to do?
    Here's my use case:
1.) I have a mac mini at home that I use when I'm at home; it runs OS X server.app (bought and paid for) and has TM server turned on.
2.) I have a laptop that I mainly use at work and I don't use at all when I come home (ie. when I'm ready to head home for the day I close the lid and don't open it until I'm back at work the next day, but the laptop does come home with me every day).
What I want to have happen is this:
1.) The minute my laptop enters my home wifi lan (even though it's still asleep with lid closed) I want it to automatically backup the boot drive.
I thought that's what Power Nap was supposed to do, but then I found out that in order for this to work, you have to be connected to AC power; so then I tried that -- ie. every day I come home, I put my laptop in a docking station that has AC power, but TM backups while lid closed / sleeping STILL do not occur!
Thanks for your help everyone...Looking forward to a solution that works.
    EDIT:
    I found this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4158709
"It looks like Power Nap doesn't perform Time Capsule backups when the MacBook Air screen is closed."
So apparently that is yet *another* requirement to get powernap working.  The lid can not be closed.
What is the difference between sleep with lid open and sleep with lid closed!?

  • MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) VM and Windows 8

    Greetings.
Just got the new rMBP and am exploring VM options for Windows.  Have been using Parallels for years on iMac and MacBook (I want VM and not Boot Camp so I don't have to re-boot).  Looking at Fusion and would love any feedback on the latest versions of both.
Also, as Windows 8 is only an upgrade version, has anyone figured out how best to get 8 on the new machine?
    Thanks for your responses.
    nhlevin

Well....THAT was easy.  Much ado about nothing.  You don't need to find a link to a separate .iso file.  Turns out that the 5.0 installer which is part of the install kit will prompt you to create a bootable disk or an .iso image, both to a USB flash or to a file on the internal memory.  So here's what I did:
    1. Ran .exe file downloaded to older VM (Black MacBook running Windows 7);
    2. Executable file then began to download the installation files and then began installation.
    3. It was only after the installation began that I was them prompted to make an install disk or an .iso image.  I of course chose the latter and saved to a USB drive (though the install disk would also be made on the USB, yet not an .iso file but rather a bootable install disk).
    4. I then used the Easy Install option from VMFusion and boy do they mean easy!  After some configuration clicks, it made a 60GB partition and installed from the USB drive.
    So far, working beautifully.
    Thanks for the help!
