USB ports on 8440p docking station hang.

I have a brand new 8440p in a new docking station. After a few minutes all the USB ports on the docking station go dead. After some power resets the ports come back to life but after a few more minutes the ports hang again. The USB ports on the laptop itself still work. The laptop is running Windows 7. I have replaced the docking station already. Any ideas?

It could be a faulty docking station (or a problem with the design of the device). Is the problem consistent with all usb 3 ports? Have you tried other usb3 peripherals?
I think you should contact the nearest Lenovo service representative if you're still under warranty, or try another docking station with your T530 and your WD, maybe at a Lenovo dealer.

  • Problem with USB port on X6 docking station and X60 laptop

    Hello all,
One of my users is having a problem that when she undocks the X60 laptop from the X6 docking station and then re-docks it later, the devices connected to the USB ports on the X6 docking station are no longer recognized.  Even after repeated re-boots I can't get the USB ports to work.  The USB ports on the laptop still work, but not on the docking station.  Anyone know what I need to do to fix this?
    T

BIOS 2.19 is for X61 series not X60(s).
    Here're my solutions.
Solution 1. Unplug all USB devices from docking station. Reset BIOS to defaults, save settings, reboot, plug all devices back. All of them should work now.
Solution 2. Power off your system. Un-dock your laptop. Unplug all USB devices from docking. Re-dock your laptop back again. Power on your system. Plug all devices back again after system booting. All of devices should work now.
I tested both on my X60s working even if it seems rediculous.
Lenovo promised to send me a new docking; however, I don't think it will help unless new BIOS is released to solve this issue.
Note: the kep point is you have to wait to plug all devices back to docking after system boots.
    Good luck.

  • Imac 2013 can't read USB 3.0 HDD Docking Station... HELP!

    Hi,
I just purchased a 27" 2013 iMac. I am using a Plugable USB 3.0 HDD Docking Station to access my internal WD 640gb hard drive. On my MBP it reads just fine but when I plug it into my mac, I get nothing. It doesn't even show up in the Disk Utilities. It's formated to Mac Journaled Extended.
If you can help, I would appreciate it.

I have been using a 10 port Satechi.  Supports USB 3.0 and is connected to late 2013 iMac. Satechi has several USB 3.0 models.

I have a WD My Passport USB3 disk disk that runs fine directly on my T530 USB3 port. But if I connect it to my docking stations USB3 port it connects and disconnects all the time. is the a fix for this?

  • X1 and USB Port Replicator with digital video - hangs system

    Hi
with the X1 to help with docking it everyday at the office I have a USB Port replicator with digital video. I am not using the digital video but the USB ports, head phone and mics plus ethernet.
When I plug it in it detects it OK, I then installed the software. But after reboot it looks to stall when logging into windows, screen flickers back and forth and locks up the operating system. I unlplug it and reboot and window is working fine.
Note as I mentioned I am not using the digital output but instead using an external monitor via the display port on the back of the laptop.
Also its is very slow to boot (Lenovo bios splash screen is there for about a minute)
I have gone into the bios and turned off all other bootable devices just leaving the laptops hard drive.
As a work around I have removed the software and I am getting the basic functionality of the port replicator, but not the ethernet.
I have run the update manager but does not appear to show a need to update the drivers.
    Model X1 (1293-CTO)
    Windows 7

Hi, I have this same exact problem.
Video (anything from youtube to downloaded shows, movies) will freeze for 5-7 seconds at a time. The sound continues to play while the video is 'frozen', and the video resumes after that.
It will happen on its own, with no bumping, but it is more prone to happen if I do something like increase the volume within the media player.
    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

  • IPod only works in iHome docking station - nothing else (USB, power outlet, other docking stations)

This just started last week after I'd loaded some songs to my iPod from my laptop and it wouldn't play or display anything.
My iPod Classic only works when connected to iHome docking station and then it seems to work fine. It won't work when connected to another docking station, to laptop through USB or to power outlet. I restored while it was on iHome docking station but that didn't seem to correct anything. When I've tried to restore off the iHome, the screen flickers endlessly and nothing appears.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Long live the Classic! (Hopefully)

  • Port Replicator vs Docking station. What's the difference?

I've just received a port replicator for my T410, and I find that I can't lock the Thinkpad to the unit. I presume THIS is the difference between a replicator and a dock.... Is that true?
However, looking at the description of the port replicator, it says, and I quote, that it has "a cable lock slot to secure  both your port replicator and your notebook".
So how can it secure the notebook? I've had to get a second Kensington Lock to lock both the replicator and Thinkpad down securely ------ or am I missing something here?
UPDATE: Ok - so now I see that the Kensington Lock on the Port Replicator does lock the laptop to the unit. Thus the only differences I can see is that a D/Station has some extra ports (Parallel printer, couple more displays, headphone & microphone). Is that all?

Port replicator just replicates the port choices on the laptop, while the docks offer more port choices that are not available on the laptop itself.

  • Docking Station USB issues

None of the USB ports on the docking station seem to work but I know that the usb (for mouse) does work when i plug it in directly to the laptop even if the laptop is docked.
I have a W500. I have a docking station at work and another one at home and both have the same issue.
    Any ideas?

have you tried to update your bios ?
have you tried to uninstall the sp3 ?
have you tried to test under safe mode ?
try to test this 3 steps

  • Need expansion port 3 docking station for dv6-1211ax for home use .... suggestions please ...

i have a dv6-1211ax laptop and planning to get a hp expansion port 3 based docking station for home use ...  can anyone suggest or comment on how they really perform ..

I have a pair of HP XB4 Notebook Media Docking Stations being used on two DV7s.  I think they work quite well, unlike the current docking stations they use the expansion port 3 and you can power both the laptop and the docking stations from a single power supply.  Speaker sound especially subwoofer is much better than the laptops (these are 2009 and 2010 model DV7s so they have the Altec Lansing speakers (as does the docking station) vs. the 2011 laptop Beats Audio.
I also like the way the docking station raises the laptop 6-8 inches above desk level.
Do make sure your system is using the expansion port 3 though since at least some of the 2011 systems no longer have the expansion port (the connection from the station to the laptop is via USB 2.0 hopefully at some time the new docking stations will be updated to use USB 3.0) along with the laptops.
For a laptop that is being used a Desktop replacement I would highly recommend the XB4
p.s since HP doesn't sell them anymore you may have to go to Ebay, Amazon or a wholeseller)

  • Blue screen from USB adapter on Docking Station

My T430s will invariably BS within 5 secs ~ 5 mins of plugging in a certain wifi network USB adapter into the docking station, whereas plugged directly into the T430s, it's fine.
It's a trusty Rosewill RNX-G1W that I carried over from a T61p, and is compatible with Linux on VMWare.  I've used it on XP, Vista, and now Win 7 64-bit.  I have the latest driver, specific to Win 7; although the default one Win 7 self-installs when it recognizes new USB hardware works just fine, except with docking station.
Any idea why it crashes when in the docking station but not in laptop ports?  Even when laptop is attached to station?  I've tried both the USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports thinking it was power related, but that changes nothing.
Particulars:  Win 7 64-bit, 16GB RAM, 14" screen w/ NVIDIA Optimus chip.  Event log only show loss of Kernel-power causing crash.

sinse updating my iphone 4 to ios 6.1.2 my kitsound boomdock will not support it or my ipod 4th gen ??

    hi leapfrog,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Can you try the following:
    1. Ensure that the ThinkPad Basic USB 3.0 Dock driver is installed (with DisplayLink Core Software Version: 7.6.56275.0) or update it here (DisplayLink Core Software Version: 7.7.60366.0).
    2. Ensure that you're using a DVI-I to VGA cable and that it's inserted on the DVI-I port on the docking station

    3. If the external monitor that you're using only supports a certain resolution (eg. 1600x800), navigate to the Display Properties and set the Display Link resolution accordingly (eg. 1600x800).

  • Docking station question

My current port needs replacing.  What are the advantages of a docking station vs a hub?

The advantage of a docking station over a USB hub is the other connectors. While a hub only has USB ports, a docking station will typically have a VGA port, a LAN port, a sound jack and a microphone jack plus a number of USB ports. The type and number of ports depends on the docking station. A typical docking station is going to cost about $150. USB hubs are a lot cheaper, but only have the USB ports and none of the other ports like a docking station.
