USB Power Error

I have been getting a USB power error that says....
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
Originally, got it last week when connecting an iphone to charge.  I tried multiple white cables, still error.  I restarted and now, each time i restart, without ANYTHING plugged into the 2 USB ports, I still get the same error.
So....it would seem that some other device inside the computer, is causing the problem?   I have a mid 2009 13 inch macbook pro....and it was never a problem before last week.
Ideas to fix, or is something dying?

Try SMC and PRAM resets.

  • USB Power Error with iPod Touch and 2012 MBA

I am getting a USB power error when I connect my current generation 32 GB iPod touch to my 2012 MBA.
Since both iPod and MacAir are running current software.  I am also starting to get errors from iTunes telling me that my iPod can not be accessed.  Any ideas?  Mac or iPod problem, or BOTH?  Closest Apple store is 250 miles away, but MBA is still under original 1 year original warranty.  Might be time for a visit.

    If a 5G iPod,
Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

  • Satellite A100: USB power error coming from standby after BIOS 5.20 upgrade

    Hi
I am having USB power problems since upgrading my BIOS to 5.2 a few days ago on receipt of an e-mail from Toshiba advising the upgrade
I have a A100-200 PSAA8E running Windows XP Media Edition since upgrading the BIOS to 5.20 I get power fault messages but only when the PC comes out of standby
The error message tells me that " A USB device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port"
I have nothing connected to any of the USB ports
I have spoken to the tech guys at length at Toshiba but they cant seem to explain or fix the problem---one even thought it might be a motherboard problem but I've discounted that as the timing is too coincidental to be anything other than the BIOS upgrade.
If anyone knows of a fix then I would be grateful--is it possible to locate a previous BIOS and roll backwards from 5.20
I am assuming that if its the BIOS then when they issue another one it will correct itself?
    Comments appreciated

I have an Equium 100-147 and am also getting 'A USB device has
    > exceeded the power limits of its hub port" message
. It doesn't seem to affect anything. It seems to be just a nuisance value. I have nothing connected to the usb ports when it flashes up and also the message only appears now and then. I also updated the bios. Oh well!

  • USB Power Error Message When Connecting NANO

Windows XP Pro on desktop computer gave an error message that the USB port power too high or something to that effect. This has happened three times with Nano. Purchased the Nano only two days ago. I also connected the Nano to my Windows laptop to charge and it bucked the laptop battery and shut it down. Is this normal? Should I just return the Nano?

Normally the error you get is about the port not having enough power, so I don't know how it could be too high. Not sure what you mean by "bucked the battery" either, but it doesn't sound good. If it were me, I'd consider swapping the iPod for a new one to see if it's defective.

  • How to solve power error when using USB camera adapter in your camera

    Hello Everyone,
First of all I wanna say reducing the output of the USB camera adapter from 100mA to 20mA just to save battery life is by far the most incredible adjustment in the history of @)#*$#%*($#!
I know most of us bought the USB Camera adapter so we can use it as a USB adapter for the Camera (saves us from taking the memory card on and off the camera) but sadly the "Ginues Apple" reduced it to 20mA which decreases the range of cameras and flash drives that will work with it. I use Gopro Hero 3+ black and everytime I plug it with the adapter to my ipad I keep on seeing this @#@$#@ power error. I didn't want to waste the expensive adapter so I tried to look for a micro sd card reader but I don't think 20mA readers still exist.
Now to solve this problem is very simple add a power source to help that 20mA up, most of the my friends bought a powered port hub but it's not my type because it's bulky, needs an outlet and not portable.
So I found a better solution on how you can add a power source and still be portable, the answer is power bank or portable charger.
    Things you need:
    Camera
USB camera adapter (Ginues Apple product)
Power bank (I'm using 8,400 mAh)
Dual USB Male to 5 Pin Mini USB Y Cable
    Ipad
    Procedure:
Camera --- 5 Pin Mini USB ------------------ USB camera adapter ---------- Ipad
                                                   '---------- Power Bank
Attach you camera to the 5 pin mini usb then the USB1 male to the female apple's USB camera adapter then to the Ipad. = this will show the power error.
Then attach the USB2 to the power bank/portable charger to power it up.
    your welcome

  • Trying to use a usb flash drive on an ipad 2 and get a power error

bought the camera kit and trying to plug in a flash drive to the usb slot and getting an insufficient power error message. How do I use a flash drive on the ipad 2?

Never said Apple made the claim. It was a salesperson selling Apple products. So they lied to make the sale. Any advise on how you can transfer files from/to ipad 2 short of emailing them to yourself?
Yes. The CCK does work with SD cards or a USB cable (coming from a camera). This is the easiest and best option if it would work for you. Or, you can try a 4GB or smaller flash drive and follow the instructions the other have posted here for renaming those files. Or, finally, you can try a powered USB hub. All of this will work only for photo or videos you've taken. Not for any other kind of file.
The best way to transfer files around is probably Dropbox or a similar service of cloud storage. You can get 2 GB free. www.dropbox.com

  • I keep getting 'USB port is drawing too much power error'

I have an old 2010 13" MacBook Pro. Just tonight, it started giving me a 'USB port is drawing too much power' error. The only thing I had plugged in to my MacBook was my iPhone cable (without the phone) and an Intuos tablet I recently bought. At first I thought it was the tablet, because the tablet started acting wonky after that error message (it worked just fine earlier in the day).
After restarting, the tablet works with no problem so I thought the problem must be the iPhone cable. The thing is, I read in some other forum that a cable not plugged to the iPhone shouldn't draw power, and they said if it does then it's a sign for a short circuit. My iPhone cable is a little bit worse for wear, to be honest.
So my question is: Is the problem my cable and if it is is it dangerous if I use this cable to charge my phone with a USB wall charger? 2nd, Is there anyway to fix this other than buying a new iPhone cable?
    Thanks in advance!

Thats a warning. if you continually get that warning with the iphone cable and you keep using it. You could eventually  disable that USB port.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd gen does not charge on new 5W USB power adapter

    Hi,
my perfectly functional ipod shuffle 2nd gen with original dock will not charge with the new Continental Europe 5W USB power adapter, even though the specs of the power adapter include the 2nd generation shuffle. Shuffle will blink orange three times, longer than normal blinking, and then do nothing. probably nothing I can do about it, but worth a note. The US model of the new 5W adapter does not include the 2nd gen shuffle, so maybe it is an error on the apple specs page.
Maybe the 2nd gen needs more than 5W to charge?

indeed, it needs the bigger 12 Watt Adapter and the apple site is wrong.

  • When I connect my camera to my iPad I get a requires too much power error message

I keep getting a "usb device requires too much power" error when I connect my external camera to my iPad.

Doing a search on here it looks like other people have the same problem with Sony cybershot cameras. If you have a card reader which doesn't draw too much power then you could try using that with the USB part of the kit.

  • G4 Quicksilver OS9/OSx usb power problem

I have a Quicksilver I just bought, loaded with OS 10.4 and decided to load OS 9.2 on to another hard disk, but am constantly getting this message once OS 9.2 is running "A USB device is using to much power. That USB port will be deactivated". I click OK but it keeps coming back. I am using an Apple Pro Keyboard and roller mouse hooked up to seperate ports. There is a USB pci card added to the computer, but it works fine in OSx. Got any clues?

  • EMac - USB Setup Error

    Hi Guys!
My eMac (2nd Generation, I think...) it was plug into a AirPort base (one of the old ones) and after a lightning, my emac, on the right side (Ethernet, USB, etc) it was all backlighted... The computer as been shutdown automatically, I have rebooted an the first thing i notice, is that it blinks a couple a times that power light, and only if we wait a few minutes (like 4-5) the monitor starts and it shows the Open Firmware with messages saying: USB Setup Error: 5c000000 82002 and USB Setup Error: 5c000000 82000 and on the end it says: 0 2 2 failed to respond...
I don't know how to do, but I've already reset all, I've dismantle the eMac and nothing seems to be burned and if this matters, the keybord and mouse are the original!
Btw, when I write "reset-nvram" and "reset-all", the eMac reboots, it shows the Apple logo, but only for 3/5 seconds...
Please help me! I need my computer, and any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Nuno

hello nuno.nelas and welcome to the  forums.
    Try replacing the small battery,

I hope that is all it takes and your logic board is OK.

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists
KINDLY GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION. APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE in advance...

  • New iPod touch 5th generation charger won't work with computers or USB power adapter?

I just got this charger less than two weeks ago and just yesterday it started saying "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work on this iPod." It will only work on some occasions, but most of the time it won't. Other times it will show that it is charging, but when I select to "Trust" my computer it stops charging. When I plug it into the USB power adapter, it rarely works (even when I try it in different outlets.) Any way to solve this issue?

  • IPod Nano + USB Power Adapter (+ Universal Dock)

    Hi,
I've got an iPod Nano and a USB Power Adapter to charge it. Untill a few days ago it went fine, even with my Universal Dock between them. But since 2 days my iPod only charges when I put the Power adapter direcly into the wall plug, but with my Hi-Fi installation I'll have to use it with a multiple socket.
Does anybody know why and how to get round this?
    Thanks

possibly a fuse blown in the multiple socket plug?? or even in the power adapter itself

  • Using USB Power Adator in S. Korea

Traveling to S. Korea and wondering if I can go ahead and plug in my iPhone using the usb power adaptor that came with my iPhone. Of course, I will get a plug adaptor for their odd looking plug ins. I think I remember plugging in my MacBook Pro and iPod no problem last time.
Any good tips on what features to shut off so ATT doesn't charge me thousands of dollars during my 3 week stay?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no problem using the adapter in South Korea. It is dual voltage, so it will automatically work for you.
Have a good trip and enjoy your iphone...
