USB Print and Storage Center running 100% of cpu

Macbook Pro 15 in. mid '09, 10.7.4, 8GB DRAM, 500HD.
Occassionally, I get a very hot computer. Running Activity Monitor indicates that the USB Print and Storage Center is running the CPU at 100% or in the high 90s. Since I'm not printing or even using USB printing, I haven't figured out what is causing this issue. Any suggestions?

Do you have a Belkin router? i have the same problem..

I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again.

How do you connect a usb printer and usb external hard drive to the airport extreme, as it only has one usb port?

I'm thinking about upgrading my old 802.11g router for a new airport extreme. Can it connect to a usb printer and external hard drive at the same time and acutally work. It only has one usb port on the back.

To add multiple USB printers and/or HDDs, you just first need to connect a USB hub (powered prefereably) to the AirPort's USB port, and then, add the USB devices to the hub.

Airport Extreme - problem with usb printer and usb disk

I have Airport extreme with firmware 7.1. I try connect usb disk and usb printer with usb-hub to airport. I can't get disk or printer working. Also try connect only disk or printer without usb-hub to airport getting same problem. How I get disk and printer working with wireless network (windows pc computers)?

- printer seems working fine after installing bonjour printer installing wizard.
- I get error (in windows) when I try print document from word. Error only says "error printing" in status value.
- In airport utility all seems ok. Airport see usb printer "Hewlett-Packard psc 1200 series"
- printer protocol is RAW and driver manufacture HP (also try with microsoft driver)

- Airport utility says "Disk needs repair. Errors were found with a disk connected to your airport base station. please connect the usb disk to your mac or pc and use disk utility or another disk application to repair the disk"
- I have connected Targa usb disk to windows pc and run scandisk and defreg. No errors found in windows. Result..no help for airport

I have a similar problem to your second issue. Tried connecting a Netdisk to the USB port of the Airport Extreme and it also said there was a problem with the disk. Have performed a low level format on the disk and Airport Extreme still complained the disk had a problem.
After unplugging the disk, my route decided to stop allowing wireless connections even after rebooting. Ended up having to hard reset the Airport Extreme and reconfigure it with my old settings to work again.
FWIW, the first Airport Extreme I purchased today only worked on 802.11a and steadfastly refused to work on b/g so had to get a replacement. I suspect Apple's quality control is not quite as good as it used to be.

Finder periodically runs 100-110% CPU

Another question related to my having add SSD to my MB Pro.
for bursts of time the Finder pegs at 100+ percent CPU usage. I grabbed a sample from the Open FIles & Folders tab in Activity Monitor and I've posted it below to see if anyone can explain what's going on. Thanks.

Yes I did and in this instance the problem was solved.
When it first started happening I figured that because of all my configuration changes resulting from the new drive that Spotlight indexes were updating or something similar.
Probably all is fine but I'm noticing everything at the moment since I've made major changes to the MB Pro.

AppleSpell.service running 100% of CPU and overheating

Hi, I have a 15'' MBP retina 2.6ghz running 10.8.2. For the past 24 hours, the CPU temperatures on my machine were running around 170-195 degress F. According to the Activity Monitor, a process called AppleSpell.service was at 101% of CPU. Once I quit, the temperatures dropped and battery life jumped. Two questions:
1) Probably being paranoid, but would there have been any damage to hardware after running at 185 degrees for a full day?
2) I've had this machine for a month and it wasn't a problem before. The only thing that changed on my machine over the last 24 hours was installing iTunes 11. Could this have triggered something faulty with AppleSpell.service?

Your MBP ad heat sensors that will shut it down if it exceeds dangerous levels so that it will not commit Hari Kari. The threshold I believe is 105c.
The download of an iTunes upgrade should have no affect on other software.

I'm trying to get my new airport extreme to print wirelessly to my samsung clx usb printer and not having any luck. I downloaded the bonjour print wizard and I know there's a signal going to the printer, but it still will not print? Any ideas?

You didn't state how it's connected to each computer, if it's connected through your router then it should work. If it doesn't then you need to contact Canon and ask for assistance.

Yes, but the printer has to be a network printer connected to the router using an ethernet cable.

How to have ethernet connected PC use printer and USB HD connected into TC

So I just got a new Time Capsule (500GB) and the way I have it connected is the cable modem goes through it and then another ethernet cable connects to my desktop PC (no wireless on this PC). Then I have my USB printer and USB HD going into the USB port on the Time Capsule via a USB Hub. Airport utility sees both the HD and the Printer.
My problem is that I can't get my PC to see the HD or the Printer. How does a PC connected through a ethernet cable and not wireless see and use these two peripherals? I have Bonjour for Windows installed but I thought that was for a wireless connection? Also is there a way to open some kind of configuration thing for Bonjour on my PC? Where on my PC would I find the HD and Printer (like in Windows Explorer or Network Places), I can't find these devices anywhere except when looking in the Airport Utility Manual Setup.
Any help would be much appreciated. I don't have much technical knowledge about networks.
Edit: One last thing is that before getting the TimeCapsule, I had a regular D-Link router running my wireless network and the printer was connected directly to the PC. This setup allowed my Macbook to use the printer and access any shared folders/files on my PC. My Mackbook was recently stolen and my new one will arrive next week, so right now I can't really test whether the Macbook can see and use the HD and Printer if they are connected to the Time Capsule. I'm wondering if I should just go back to plugging the HD and printer into the PC and running the network sharing that way????

Just wanted to bump this question to see if anyone has any answers. My main issue is seeing the time capsule from my Windows desktop and the connected harddrive. However, my new problem is that whenever I connect the USB Windows Formated HD to the Time Capsule the whole thing just stops working and my PC and my MacBook can't read the Time Capsule at all until I turn of the USB HD. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a networked printer?
If your printer is network connected rather than connected via USB, you may be experiencing network related connectivity issues. Any network connectivity issues must be addressed first. The HP Print and Scan Doctor will also check for and help you resolve network issues that previously required a separate utility (the HP Network Diagnostic Utility). With the HP Print and Scan Doctor this is no longer necessary! Print to lpt1 where remote desktop client has usb printer

I have a client with an usb printer and need to print an UPS label report from Microsoft Dynamic NAV on an remote server that prints only to LPT1. I've set the client printer as shared printer and selected LPT1 and USB ports. When the client is connected
to the server through remote desktop, the redirected printer can print a test print but running the report from the application on the server will not print to the client's printer. The report shows that it was sent to LPT1 but there are no errors
or print jobs in the printer queue. I've also tried to use "net use" to set up the shared printer to LPT1 but that didn't work either. And I've installed the printer on the server to LPT1 as well and that did not work either.
Any help is greatly appreciated. The server is Windows Server 2008 R2 and the client is Windows 7.

Cannot add HP USB printer to 1 user on my computer

I hooked up via USB an HP Photosmart C4480 to my iMac, which has a non-admin account (my daily account) and an admin account. The C4480 worked, but my non-admin account has lost touch w/it after I added a new ink cartridge this weekend. This is what happens:
No apps in the non-admin account see the printer -- not Word, TextEdit, Safari, Mail. When I open Print & Fax in System Preferences, it shows no printer (while the admin account sees the printer and has it set as default). When I click the plus sign, the computer shows the "Photosmart C4400 series" as a USB printer in a new dialog box. I select that description, a box drops down telling me it is seeing whether it is configurable, and then after a few moments it disappears leaving the System Pref pane empty w/out explanation. My non-admin user account's Library folder has a printer queue named "HP Photosmart C4400 series" but when clicked it starts to open, then closes w/out doing anything. In my admin account, I can open this queue app and see that the printer is ready.
When I could not get the non-admin account to work, I opened the admin account and used the HP uninstaller to remove C4400 software that came w/the printer on a CD. I then attached the printer and my iMac, running Snow Leopard, downloaded the HP drivers from Apple automatically -- all while signed in to the admin account. The admin account continues to function just fine and is even sharing the printer over WiFi w/my wife's Macbook.
This has happened before w/this printer, and I reset the printing system. I figure I should reset again, but wanted to know whether I can do something to prevent my non-admin account from getting amnesia the next time.

Try repairing permissions and then restart your computer.

Use TC for Wireless Printing and Backups Only on Existing Wireless Network

I am fairly clueless about this whole issue. I set up my current Belkin wireless router several years ago, and haven't had to fool with it once. I don't want to have to touch it--if it ain't broke............ However, I would like to use my Time Capsule I just purchased to backup via Time Machine wirelessly and attach a USB printer and print wirelessly. So the TC will not be used for internet, just want a separate wireless point for printing and backing up. Is this possible? I am not sure which choice to choose in Airport utility. I tried a couple different ways, and it didn't work. Can't honestly tell you what I tried, am a bit confused at this point!

If you have not already done so, I suggest that your start over on the AirPort Expess "from scratch" by performing a Factory Default Reset and then attempt to configure it to join the network again.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
If you have an older Express, make sure that you are not trying to configure it to connect to the 5 GHz network, as it is unable to do so.
Assuming that the name of the wireless network, wireless security setting and password on the Express match up with the AirPort Extreme, the Express should "join" the network if it is working correctly.
If you are still having problems, all that you really can do is try the default reset a few more times. If still no luck, the Express....which is at least 5-6 years old or older, may likely need to be replaced with a new model.

Airport Extreme w/Powered USB Hub and External Disk Drive Win 7

I have an Airport Extreme device setup with a Belkin powered USB hub in the USB port. I am using the
hub to network a USB printer and an external hard drive. I established a wireless home network
for Windows 7 PCs. I am able to print to the printer from all clients on the network. However, the clients
cannot see the hard disk even though it displays in the Airport Utility > Disks. I have selected
"Share over Ethernet WAN port" in the configuration. Can you tell me what I am missing in order to make this drive
accessible and usable to the clients on the network?

It sounds like we are confusing AirPrint printers with printers capable of being used with an AirPort Express for wireless printing.
AirPrint capable printers have wireless built in so you can print "directly" from your iPhone, no AirPort Express needed.
The AirPort Express has a USB port to which you connect a "regular" USB printer so you can print to that wirelessly. Effectively, it makes your standard USB printer an AirPrint printer by supplying the wireless connection. So if you have a USB printer already, the AirPort Express may allow you to print to that.
From the spec page, "USB 2.0 port for connecting a USB printer" and "Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
