USB Printer installation over USR9108 WiFi BaseStation

Hello
I own now for a couple of days the US Robotics 9108 ADSL Wireless Router with an USB Network Port for PrinterSharing.
The Router is much better then the 9106 (Signal) but I have problem to connect a printer to the 9106. I own a Canon iP5000 with USB. The connection to the router is OK and gives no Error.
The Problem is that I have no result to add the printer at the IPP and configure it.
Describe is only the windows part
1. Windows XP users: Click Windows Start and then Printers and Faxes. Windows 2000, Me, and 98 users: Click Windows Start, Settings, and then Printers.
2. Click Add Printer and the Add Printer Wizard launches. Click Next.
3. Select Network printer and click Next.
4. Select Connect to a printer on the Internet... Under Printer location, enter the following.
http://192.168.1.1:1631/printers/printer_name
If you have changed the gateway's IP address, replace 192.168.1.1 with the changed address. For the printer_name part, use the name you entered in Printer name on the Print Server page shown above. This name is case-sensitive, and it must exactly match the Printer name on the Print Server page.
5. You will be prompted to choose the brand and model of your printer. You can either select them from the list or click Have Disk, then insert the CD-ROM that came with your printer, and navigate to your CD-ROM drive to locate the drivers. When you are finished, click Next.
6. When prompted, select Yes or No to set this printer as your default printer. If prompted, you can print a test page.
7. You will be shown the information regarding your printer. Click Finish to complete the setup process.
Who helps me to add the Printer in my Mac

Gerard Dirks

It's funny but I have found the same thing as you. Whenever I help my wife with her Windows machine things look convoluted and unnecessarily complicated when I compare them to Linux.
At times I think that may be I've gotten so used to the Unix ways that Windows seems "out of touch" or may be Linux has progressed so much since I started using it (RedHat 6.0 I think) that all those things are almost plug-and-play now.

  • Can't connect to a networked printer - Airlink101 USB Print Server

I am new to Mac. I am trying to connect my iMac to a Brother HL-5040 laser printer through an Airlink101 USB print server over my wireless network. The iMac connected to the 802.11g network immediately without any issues which is more than I can say for the other XP machines I own. I have several other Windows PC's networked and they all print just fine. Using the print setup utility, I can find the networked print server and add it to the printer list; however, I can not print. The status monitor indicates that it can't connect. The install directions on the Airlink101 website for the Mac does not seem to match the options that are part of the "add a printer" utilility. Any help would be appreciated.

When we try to add another one of the printers it finds the printer with the IP, it auto-detected the driver, then when I click next, I get an error stating there was an "error connecting to the printer would you continue anyway?"
We try to print but the queue just continuously pauses and nothing gets sent to the printer.
This could be a result of the protocol you selected. IPP is the default listed. If you remove this printer and add again, but this time change the protocol drop menu to HP Jetdirect-Socket, see if this works better for the user.

  • Airport Extreme USB Printer Windows 8

    Hello everyone,
I have an Airport Extreme.  My HP P1006 printer is plugged directly into the Airport Extreme.  My desktop PC running Windows 8 is also plugged into the Airport Extreme via ethernet cable.  When I try to print to the HP P1006 it does not work.  I have tried installing Bonjour Printer support to no avail, it usually crashes.  I have a Macbook Pro and a Dell laptop running Windows 7 that both print remotely over the Wifi network.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks for your time.
    Neel

You need to keep working on installing bonjour as the print services are not going to work easily without it.
Have a go loading it in safe mode.. I am not sure.. but it is always worth trying.
Is the win8 computer setup for windows home group? That might cause issues. You might need to stop the home group, get the bonjour services installed and then try again with it. With or without homegroup working.
Network printer via the Extreme could be offered direct to the network. I am just not sure how to access it without bonjour.

  • Time capsule USB printer works when I connect via ethernet but not over wifi

I have a USB printer hooked up to my new Time Capsule. If I turn off my wifi and connect to the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable it works fine. When I try to do the same thing over wifi (even when I'm sitting next to it) it cant seem to make a solid connection. Most of the time it just says Printer Paused, but sometimes it will work, other times the printer just clicks, or starts but then stops. Other than that my wifi connection seeems pretty good.
Is there something with the settings with my older "08 MacBook and the newer Time Capsule?
Any help is very much appreciated,
    Thanks

    Very interesting one..
Did you upgrade install ML into the MB??
It sounds to me like it has corrupted the wireless drivers.. and I think you will need to do a clean install.
If you have internet working over wireless I see no reason for this to happen though.

  • Cannot print or scan with USB printer over wifi from airport express / time capsule wifi

    Hi everybody,
I have recently set up time capsule connected to the router from the telephone company but created a new wifi network for the time machine to better work. Now I have bought an airport express to be able to use my USB printer over the WIFI network. I have to laptops, the printing works fine over the mac book air but not over the macbook pro. On top of that I cannot scan with either of the devices.
I have scanned most of the information out there but this issue seems not to be addressed properly anywhere. Advices given do always repeat itself but no solution worked for me.
Now I have plugged the usb from the printer directly back into mac book pro and the problem seems to persist here too. The message I receive everywhere is this one:
The software for the printer was installed incorrectly.
Would you like it to be repaired?
When I hit the Repair button a notice says 'repairing permissions' but nothing really happens. In the end nothing has been printed.
Resetting the printing systems has not really changed anything either. The problems persist.
This is the screen I get when the printer is directly plugged in through USB:
Result: printer recognised and installed, I cannot print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly), but I can scan (probably because of the hint ('multifunction')
When I try to install the printer through the network connection (wifi network over time capsule and airport express) I get this image:
Result: printer recognised over bonjour but without multifunction (in other words without scanning), I cannot scan nor print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly)
As I already mentioned any solution I found online would not work. Now the qustions are:
    1) why can't I print? The drivers seem to be there but somehow broken, and I don't know how to repair it
    2) why can't I scan over wifi? It sould possible that any function that can be performed over cable should also be able to performable over air, right?
I would very much appreciate any kind of help.
    Thank you in advance,
    Cris

    What's up doc?
HP has not provided "network" drivers to allow advanced features when the the All-in-One is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
Therefore, only the printing function is supported when the All-in-One is connected to the Time Capsule's USB port.
If you need advanced features like fax, copy, scan, maintenance etc., you will need to connect over the WiFI network, or connect the All-in-One directly to your computer.

  • Brother dcp 9040 cn not printing over airport wifi

i am unsure if this is a 10.6.3 upgrade issue
i have a brother dcp 9040 cn which i have been using for the past year very happily over the wifi airport network.
it has stopped printing over the wifi
it works fine with the usb connection
it appears fine with bonjour & selects ok except when i print over the wifi it tries to connect but never does and then always pauses.
i have upgraded the firmware on the printer from the brother site and have loaded the latest drivers from brother for osx
    has anyone got any suggestions?
    thanks

10.6.3 came with the latest drivers for your printer.
    Try resetting the printing system.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/14001.html
    Don't install any print software.
See if your Mac sees that printer.
If so, select it and see if you can print.

  • Better to use a printer's  WiFi or connect via TimeCapsule USB Printer.

Just a generic question....Is it better/easier/faster to use a printer's built in WiFi versus connecting it via a USB connection to my Time Capsule.
I'm installing an all in one, Epson 810. MBP, 10.5.8, Time Capsule. Would like to use all the functionality of the Epson (scan, fax, copy, print). Previously was printing on an older Epson using the TimeCapsule via USB connection which worked well.
Just looking to not get into a mess setting stuff up.
    Thanks
    Fabian

There may be no advantage to using the TimeCapsule and USB. The limitation on the speed will be your connection to the TimeCapsule, and that is at WiFi speed. It depends on what the connection speed on the printer is.
You might be able to connect the printer to the TimeCapsule via Ethernet. That should give you all the functions, and if the WiFi speed of the printer is G, rather than N, the connection will be limited by your N speed connection to the TimeCapsule.

  • I cant print over my wifi network with Yosemite

Hi, I've just installed OS X 10.10 on my Macbook Pro and my wife's Macbook Air and we've lost our printers on the wifi network. Internet seems to be working fine over the wifi (120 mb/s) and if i plug the computers in to the LAN connections on the router then I can see the printers OK and printing is fine. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Printing from iMac using bonjour to a printer connected to netgear wifi router USB port

Wondering if someone could help provide advice. I have just purchased my first iMac and a new NetGear W600 wifi router. I have connected my Canon multifunction MX310 printer directly to my iMac and it prints and scans perfectly. However when I connect it to the USB port of my new NetGear W600 wifi modem the only thing I can print is the test page on the iMac, ... nothing else prints. I receive the message that my iMac has connected to the printer but nothing prints out, except the basic test page.
In stark contrast, when I install bonjour on my Dell notebook PC, running Vista, it prints perfectly to the same MX310 printer connected to the NetGear wifi router!

Hi, Thanks for your help. I am trying to get documents printing to the canon printer in wifi mode, via bonjour, when the printer is connected to the USB port of my NetGear wifi router. I have a wifi internet connection via the same NetGear wifi router so it doesn't seem to be a network connectivity issue. ... any other ideas?
    Many Thanks

  • Printing to USB printer connected to old iMac over Network

I have old Rev B iMac running OS 9 upstairs in the office, this has a USB printer connected to it.
Downstairs I have a Mac Mini running OS 10.3.9
Both these machines are networked together via a router. This all seems to work fine, I can see the drives of both computers from either computer.
My problem though is printing. I want to be able to print from the Mac Mini to the printer attached to the old iMac. I've done all the USB printer sharing business on the OS 9 iMac, but it still doesn't appear in the printer options on the Mac Mini.
Is this possible to do? .....looking through the help topics on my Mac Mini, there was several mentions of printing from OS9 to a printer connected to an OSX machine. But I haven't found any mention of being able to go the other way.

There is a way to do this, but it isn't easy. The grim details are:
    1. set up the iMac running OS 9 as a print server using the free utility Print66
    2. set up printing from the Mac running 10.3.9 in the Printer Setup Utility, choosing IP Printing using the LPR protocol, to the IP address of the iMac. Additional hurdle - you will need to use the third-party printer driver GimpPrint if you are using anything but a Postscript language laser printer on the iMac.
This will work, but unfortunately it is not an exercise for the beginner.
Incidentally, doing it the other way around is considerably easier (printer connected to and shared by the Mac mini running OS X). See Printing to a Mac OS X shared printer from Mac OS 9 via LPD/LPR

  • Trying to add usb printer to my airport express.

trying to add usb priinter to my airport express.  Using airport utility on my iphone and it only list add wps printer.  I see no add USB printer in utility.

    Brad0416-
Search the iTunes App store to see if there is a free Brother printing App.  Other Apps like Print n Share will work for non-AirPrint printers, but are not as convenient as using AirPrint.  They generally require you to use their own text, mail, browser and photo programs, and do not work from within other iOS Apps.  One exception is that some Apps have an "Open In" option, that allows you to open a document in the printing App and then print it.
Another alternative is to use one of the computers to share its printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  Printopia on the Macintosh is one program that can do that.  For a free solution, search the web for AirPrint Activator.  There are versions for both PC and Mac computers.  Of course the computer has to be turned on and awake anytime you want to print!

  • Problems adding USB printer - "Driver not installed" - but it is

Apparently, 10.3.9 has some problems with USB printers. For the record, I had already installed this earlier prior to the upgrade and everything worked fine - but due to crashing due to a faulty power supply - I've had to re-configure everything.
I, and many others in this forum, have found a strange problem when trying to add a printer (And yes, other people have asked about this but I haven't seen any answers at all that are useful. The only possible solution seems to be "upgrade to 10.4" and that is unacceptable. Does Apple check these forums?).
After clicking "add printer" in the utility, the software finds the correct printer (so obviously the physical connection to the printer is OK) and displays it with a question mark over it's icon and "driver not installed" next to it. I can't select this image or text.
After searching for a couple of minutes, a dialogue box pops up saying "New drivers detected. Do you want to reload the browser?" (I assume the printer setup utility is the "browser"?).
I click yes and nothing happens. No PPDs show up in the list. This happens when I select USB as well as Apple Talk from the printer-type pull-down menu.
How can I start printing again?

    iMac G5 17" Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iMac G5 17" Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    First, welcome to the discussions.
For the record, Apple does not normally respond to these Forums.
You mention (Due to Crashing) Whenever you have an issue with your machine it can disrupt in almost any area, and is normally caused by SOMETHING.
As of right now it would appear you might be chasing your tail.
When you choose to upgrade your Operating System there is No Guarantee that your Printer and it's drivers will work on another completely different Operating System.
Your best bet at this point is to drag all of your printer related folders to the trash, empty your trash, and plug your USB Printer (What KIND) into your machine directly.
Shut your machine clear OFF for a minute or so and do the same to your printer, pull the power adapter from it.
Now plug in your printers Power Adapter, Plug in the USB to your Printer to your computer and restart it.
Take the Disc that came with your printer and re insert it and download the Installation Folder and any utility folder that may come with it.
After you have done this don't try to print, Go directly to your Printer Manufactures Web site and search for the latest updates to your printer and the Operating System you are using.
These will more often than not download to your desktop.
You must drag these to the setup folder and or the utilities folder and then double click them to launch them. after you have completed this your printer should work.
One other thing, If you have Classic and or OS9 on your machine you might have to do the same for OS9 Applications , and Utilities for it to print in Classic. Don

  • Cannot print more than one copy from Win2000 to USB printer on a G5

    Hi,
I have set up shared printing so that a Windows 2000 PC can print directly to my Canon S600 on the USB port of the G5, however, we cannot get it to print more than one copy of a document at a time, i.e. you tell Word to print five copies but only one comes out.
I tried changing the printer driver to the Canon S600 (from an installer CD), but we couldn't get it to print at all.
Then tried the HP Laserjet driver and Apple Colour Laserwriter driver. Both these work but we still only get one print out at a time.
Is it a case of going through all the printer drivers until one works, or is it a limitation of printing over a wireless network to a USB printer?
    Justin

As I recall, there is a setting in Windows that determines whether it is the printer, or Windows itself, that generates the multiple copies. You need to have Windows generate each copy.

  • Cannot add HP USB printer to 1 user on my computer

I hooked up via USB an HP Photosmart C4480 to my iMac, which has a non-admin account (my daily account) and an admin account. The C4480 worked, but my non-admin account has lost touch w/it after I added a new ink cartridge this weekend. This is what happens:
No apps in the non-admin account see the printer -- not Word, TextEdit, Safari, Mail. When I open Print & Fax in System Preferences, it shows no printer (while the admin account sees the printer and has it set as default). When I click the plus sign, the computer shows the "Photosmart C4400 series" as a USB printer in a new dialog box. I select that description, a box drops down telling me it is seeing whether it is configurable, and then after a few moments it disappears leaving the System Pref pane empty w/out explanation. My non-admin user account's Library folder has a printer queue named "HP Photosmart C4400 series" but when clicked it starts to open, then closes w/out doing anything. In my admin account, I can open this queue app and see that the printer is ready.
When I could not get the non-admin account to work, I opened the admin account and used the HP uninstaller to remove C4400 software that came w/the printer on a CD. I then attached the printer and my iMac, running Snow Leopard, downloaded the HP drivers from Apple automatically -- all while signed in to the admin account. The admin account continues to function just fine and is even sharing the printer over WiFi w/my wife's Macbook.
This has happened before w/this printer, and I reset the printing system. I figure I should reset again, but wanted to know whether I can do something to prevent my non-admin account from getting amnesia the next time.

Try repairing permissions and then restart your computer.

  • Need help with HP printer installation.

Trying to install drivers for an HP OfficeJet 6500 e710n on two machines, an iMac and a MacBook Air, both running OS X 10.7.  The printer is a networked printer that I have tried adding to both machines as an IP printer and as a USB printer. With either method the printer is automatically discovered and the drivers are downloaded.  After the drivers are installed the process stalls at "Configuring the device..."  I have waited at this point for over half an hour with no progress before choosing cancel.  I have also downloaded and run the installer from HP with the same results.  The only way that I have been able to connect with this printer is by manually configuring an IP printer with the generic PCL drivers.  This allows me to print but only in low-res black and white.  Any suggestions?

If you force restart the computer on the freeze up, or force quit the printer adding window, does the printer appear in the print and scan system preference?   In other words, did the printer successfully install?  (is it possible that the setup part of the install failed, but the actual install worked?)
If so, you might be able to set the configurations yourself.
Open up the print and scan system preference.  Double click on the printer.
When the printer queue window opens up, you should be able to click on the printer setup button.
Go through all the tabs and set things up the way you like.
