USB Printer with Time Capsule (with 802.11ac)

Hello Guys,
I have a Canon MP258 inkjet printer and it's not working with my airport time capsule (with 802.11ac) .
I had tried a lot of method to solve it but it can't be done.
Pls, help me to solved this puzzled.Thx
Best Regards,
Johnremy

If the name of your printer does not appear in the printer list when you click the + button, try contacting Canon Support to see if they have an updated printer driver that you could download and install.
Download Free Driver Pinter Canon Pixma MP258
http://filedir.com/drivers/printer/canon-pixma-mp258-mp250-printer-driver-downlo ad-516940.html
If this does not work, then Canon has not provided the printer driver for their device to operate on a network USB connection.
Do you understand that if you can get the print function working, that fax, scan, copy, maintenance, etc functions will not work when the MP258 is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule?
Only the print function is supported on the Time Capsule, so if you need the other functions, you should connect the MP258 to your computer.....not the Time Capsule.

  • USB printing through Time Capsule from Ipad or iphone

I connected my printer thru the USB of my Time Capsule, and I can print wirelessly from my iMac, but my iPhone and my iPad do not see the printer. It has to be air printing enable or is there other way to do it?
    Thanks!!

  • Help with Time Capsule with a new modem

    Hi,
I did a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for.  What is the  easiest way to setup my Time capsule with a new modem?  I will be using  wifi with the time capsule.  I just got a new modem and the time capsule  keeps flashing a amber light.  It was working off wifi before I got the  new modem.
    Thanks, Jerry

There is only one right value for wireless now. Which I did list in the instructions.
    WPA2-PSK (AES) for the arris.
    WPA2-Personal for the TC.
Did you reboot everything when you disconnected the ethernet.. so the computer and TC can reallocate the IP addresses. This is important.
Reboot everything when you rearrange networks.. always do it.. even I am forced to do it.
Reboot in this order.. from off.. everything off.
    Modem.. wait 2min
    TC.. wait 2min
Computer.. this will now pick up a new IP from the whichever wireless is stronger.. should not make any difference if it is the TC or the Arris.
Now see if the TC is available in airport utility.
If it fails .. reconnect it by ethernet to the computer.
Give it a different wireless name .. ie the Arris and the TC will have different names.
And you are using "create a wireless network" in the TC.. no other option will work.
Update the TC so the setup is saved.
Unplug the TC from the computer and plug it into the Arris..
Now reboot everything.. sorry.. but it is the easiest way to clear up old settings and get everything going again.
Now in the computer you will need to open the airport and find the TC wireless.. and then you connect to it.
Once you connect direct to the TC you should have no trouble.
You can setup and fix any issues.. there are always a few silly things.. password default or wan setup .. choose ignore or change settings.

  • Problems with setting up USB printer on Time Capsule.

I've just bought Time Capsule (4th Gen, 2TB, Airport Utility v6.0) and got it connected to Internet creating private network. It works ok but I can't set up network printer via TC. The printer (Canon pixma iP90) is working fine connected directly to my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.3) but I can't get it working through TC.
TC manual (pages 17&30) asks to open Printer Setup Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. The problem is that I can't find this Print Setup Utility in the indicated folder.
Please help me to solve this puzzle. Thanks.

There have been a number of very recent changes....AirPort Utility 6.0 is one of them.....so things probably won't track with manuals that were printed months ago and have not yet been updated.
Connect the printer to the USB port on the Time Capsule and make sure everything is powered up.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Print & Scan
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list on the left
Hopefully, your printer or printer family will appear in the next window
Click on the name of the printer to highlight it
Click Add at the the lower right of the window
    Try to print.
Be sure to select the correct printer location in the print dialog box since you now have the printer installed at two different locations....your Mac and the Time Capsule. You need to choose the correct location before you click the "Print" button.
Might be a good idea to make the printer at the Time Capsule your default printer in the Print & Scan box.

  • Connection printer to time capsule with wifi ... Problem

Sorry i am french... so my english is verry bad
I have buy yesterday a new printer with wifi connection, my problem is the wifi software into the printer dont find the time capsule...
    Can you find a solution?

The new 7.6.3 firmware and 6.2 utility is supposed to provide WPS which is probably what the printer is requesting to do connection.. but you can use WPS without the new firmware. WPS is available.. just tricky to get at.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3500
The manual setup method suggested in the above article is the best.. just plug the printer into the computer by usb and use the setup disk that came with the printer.. I have done a few of these and it works fine.
I do recommend before you start.. setup TC with SMB type names.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.

  • Cannot see USB disk on Time Capsule with 10.7

After updating to 10.7.1 I can not see my external USB drives connected to Time Capsule.
They usually show up in Finder when I click on the Time Capsule icon in the left side.
Can I mount them in a different way?

I assume that the Capsule backed up only what was on my computer, not my wife's computer. She will have to back up her computer separately, correct?
    Correct.
where do I go to see what is backed up so I can be sure it worked?
It is going to take Time Machine some time to index the new backup, so wait a day or so for this to occur.
Then, click on the Time Machine "clock" icon down on the dock at the bottom of the screen. A lot of data has to load, so if you are using a wireless connection, leave things alone for 5-10 minutes or so.
Once you have history of backups, you can use the time line on the right of the screen to select a data of a past backup to view how your Mac looked on that date. If you need to restore a file, navigate to the location, click to highlight the file, and then click Restore below the window

  • Slow data transfer with Time Capsule on 802.11n ?

    Hi,
Actually, I don't know where to start. But let's explain my setup first:
My iMac (wired) and AppleTV (wireless) are connected to the Time Capsule (802.11n, 5Ghz)
My girlfriend's MacBook and 2 x iPhone 2G's (wireless) are connected to an Airport Extreme Base station (802.11b/g compatible).
The Time Capsule and AEBS are connected and show two different networks.
    Now the problem:
When I copy files from e.g. the iMac to the MacBook or to the Apple TV, it's very slow. I've used scp to copy a 200 mb file and it took about 1.20 minutes (at 2.5MB/s). I've did the same when the iMac was connected over wireless and it took about 3.45 to 4.30 minutes (at 1.0MB/s).
I'm not sure if this IS slow, but it certainly feels like it. 802.11n should be around 100 Mb/s in practice and 802.11b/g around 20-25 Mb/s.
By the way: downloading from the Internet is excellent, I get the full download/upload speed my provider offers for my subscription.
Second, I added the signal strength/noise levels for the Time Capsule attached devices. They vary around -68Db signal, -90Db noise.
The question is: are these levels normal ? What should be higher or lower ?
    Thanks in advance !
    Rutger

The new Airport Extremes and Time Capsules suffers from terrible performance over the 5GHz band and it's a problem that not only affects me and you, but hundreds of thousands of other owners.
Nobody knows if it's a firmware problem or the Marvell chips inside that's the problem, and Apple hasn't said or done anything for months.
I'm still hoping for a firmware update to solve this, but if it doesn't get fixed soon enough, I'm gonna return it and go back to backing up to wired disk and my rock solid Airport Express.
Not the happiest answer, but at least you have a clue now.
    Cheers,
    Koski

  • USB Printing thru Time Capsule

I have a new MBA 13" (running 10.6.6) and a 2008 MBP 15" (running 10.5.8). My printer is a OKI c3200n and was set up on the Time Capsule (updated to 7.5.2) thru the MBP.
The MBA is about a week old and I cannot add the printer to the MBA. It appears in the TC printer tab and it appears in the "Add Printer" dialogue with the Location as the TC. However, when I attempt to select it, the "Print Using" dropdown menu does not find the driver using Autoselect, nor is my c3200n listed in the Select Printer Software choice (only Oki 24-pin and Oki 9-pin).
Further, I have downloaded the driver for Snow Leopard from Oki and installed it. I can use "Other" in "Print Using" dropdown to navigate to the installed drivers. However, selecting any of the 5 drivers available in the oki folder has no effect.
Originally, on the MBP, I downloaded the Leopard driver and set through the TC was a breeze.
Any suggestions to print off the MBA would be welcome.
    Thanks,

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I had tried the "More Printers" option as well. When I choose "OKI USB", I get nothing. There is a dialogue box that has two columns "Product" and "Kind", but there's nothing listed for me to select.
When I choose "OKI TCP/IP", it finds the 3200 in a dialogue box with a single column table called "Model Name", but wants me to enter the "Internet address or DNS address" of the printer and I don't know what it would be. (I did a number of searches on how to find the address of one's own printer and did not find anything usable by me.)
I should note that I have the printer plugged into the TC by both USB and Cat-5. The MBP uses the USB, but my PC would not. I plugged a Cat-5 in and the PC found the printer that way and prints no problem.
I had read about the 32-bit issue, but didn't understand it at first. I thought I had to set the printer (which I can't find) to 32-bit. Re-reading it, I had to set the application itself (i.e., Safari) to 32-bit. I did that and was able to the add the printer through the Cat-5 connection (as discussed above) as a "Generic PCL Laser Printer". When I attempted to print, the display on the printer said "Invalid Data" and did not complete the print job.
    Appreciate your continued help.

  • Time capsule with USB printer stop to work.

Two months ago, I installed a brand new Time Capsule 2T. Initial configuration went without any issue.I installed an HP wireless printer and a second HP Laserjet to the USB port on time capsule. Everything was working well and suddenly the printer hooked on USB port stop working. Print job remains in the queue and nothing happens even using my MBP or using a PC connected to Time Capsule. The wireless printer is still working fine. So, I did a soft reset by pressing the button at the back of Time Capsule but it doesn't solve the problem. Both MBP and PC cannot connect to USB printer. The only way to recover printing capability is to unplug power on Time Capsule and re-plug it. In this case, MBP and PC could print. I don't know when this issue begins and I cannot predict when printing capability issue on USB printer will occur. I'm pretty sure this a Time Capsule issue or OS issue.
    Couple things I tried:
    - Uninstalled printer and re-added
    - All drivers are up-to-date
    - Time Capsule firmware is up-to-date
    - MBP running OS X Mountain Lion with latest patches
    - PC Windows Vista Ultimate with latest patches.
Any idea what could cause this?

Yes, your solution of the power cycle of the TC shows that this is caused solely by the poor networking ability of the TC. There is a flaw in the firmware that is causing the issue. The issue affects a number of things.. yours is just one example of it.
There is no solution. I cannot even give you a true work around using just the TC..
Best solution is of course to get a network printer.. usb is seldom designed for network usage. You can purchase an ethernet to USB print server but the cost of the item would be half the cost of the new printer. And useless item into the future. So consider carefully.. maybe time for a new printer.
In the TC do the following.
    1. Reduce the firmware to 7.6.1 if you recently installed latest 7.6.3 that could be some of the issue.. it has proven less than great update. Hold down option key when you select firmware and you can downgrade.
    2. Factory reset after you do 1. or do it anyway if you want to stick to the latest klugde firmware. But clean up the old settings by using new setup.
    3. Use all names that comply to windows standard.
Short,, 10-20 characters should be plenty.. less than 10 also good.
    No spaces..
    Pure alphanumeric.
    4. If the TC is set to main router, set the dhcp server to much shorter lease time. I suggest even 20min. The increase in network traffic for dhcp renewal will be tiny.. but it will keep ARP tables updated better than the full day used by default.
    5. From the windows side make sure the TC is set to the correct workgroup under file sharing.. generally WORKGROUP.
    6. If you still have issues.. and I think you may mitigate the problem but not resolve it doing the above.. a nightly auto reboot from an electrical timer.. crude but we have done such things before to fix crummy domestic level router to make them reliable.

  • 306 Error Printing with Time Capsule 2TB

I just upgraded from a 1st Generation Time Capsule (500GB) to a 4th Generation Time Capsule (2TB).  I have a Canon MP600 printer connected via USB to the Time Capsule.  In my previous setup, this worked flawlessly and other computers on the network could print to this device.  With the new setup, I'm receiving a 306 Error printing to the printer via the new Time Capsule.
    I have:
    Reset the printer system information.
Rest the TC to default settings, attached the USB for the printer, and restarted the device.
Tested the USB direct connection to my printer (works fine).
I feel like this has to be related to the new TC...wondering if I've got a setting mixed up.
Any help would be great - I've reviewed most of the postings related to this subject, but this one feels different as it involves an upgrade to new TC and I'm not trying to use a wireless printer.

First, restart your MacBook Pro and your Time Capsule. This solves the problem in most of the cases.

  • Epson Print Servers compatible with Time Capsule?

First up: I'm no techie. Epson tells me I will need an Epson print server to enable me to print wirelessly on my ADSL-Time Capsule 500GB (7.3.2)-Airport (5.3.2) network, using an Epson DX8400, which they tell me doesn't support network printing: so far so bad (& so much for the cheap all-in-one printer). Can anyone tell me (if there is no other way of achieving wireless printing) if the Epson print servers are compatible with Time Capsule? I don't have the tech spec to hand, but there are only 3 PSs on the Epson website, 2 of which appear to be the same but vary by a few pounds in price (about GBP150). This was an expense I didn't want, but if I can print wirelessly (AND IT WORKS!) I will pay it, because I want to get a desktop model as well soon & will want to print wirelessly from that as well. I have posted this to the Time Capsule forum as well, but any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

yep am using a  usb hub, time cap. has only the one usb port- yes two usb outs on the hard drive , sorry, which merge into one into the hd, is bus powered...

  • Use Network ready printer with Time Capsule?

Recently bought a laser all in one Canon printer that was network ready. Canon tech support told me it would not be compatible with Time Capsule (500 GB) as the wireless source. Is this true?
If true, what printer brands will network easily with the Time Capsule?
    Thank you!
    In search of new printer

    Welcome to the discussions!
If the all-in-one is "network ready", it will have an ethernet port to connect to the network. It will need to connect by ethernet if you want to be able to use the scan, fax, copy, etc functions.
If you are planning to connect the all-in-one to the Time Capsule USB port, the printing function will work if the device is compatible. The other functions will not be supported.

  • Anyone else had success with Kodak 5100 printing from Time Capsule?

So I recently bought a Time Capsule and until now have been happily printing from USB port on PC and now on Mac.
We were going to buy a wireless printer but found out that the Time Capsule supports that capability by connecting a printer to the USB on the Time Capsule.
So, set it all up, connected my Kodak 5100 and it appears to see it and lists the printer in the print utility on my Mac as location "Time Capsule".
Printer is on, paper in, ink levels ok.... print a test page and my Mac thinks it's printing but the Kodak 5100 Easyshare (!!) is doing nothing!
Having searched the blogs for a while, and mindful that the Kodak 5100 is a couple of years old now, I eventually found a solution that appears to work!!
You can download an older software for the 5100 here http://www.userdrivers.com/Printer/Kodak-All-in-One-Printer-Software-3-5-for-Mac -OS-X/download/
I have to thank someone else for suggesting this back in 2009 on another post on this forum but I can't find the post so thank you whomever it is, this still works! When you set up the driver, you need to select that you are connecting to the printer through another Mac - I think the only other option I had was to select USB connection. Once you are in, you'll notice that the software is not as user friendly as the latest versions but if you can print wirelessly from your Mac, then I'd like to think you won't care about the UI of the printer software!
I've only just done this and tested with a colour excel from MS Excel for Mac so will let you know if anything else doesn't work!

I've tried using an ethernet connection. It does work faster and I seem to get more files over, but it STILL eventually hangs. I've given up with Time Capsule and now backup to a Lacie 1Tb disk. It would nice to know what is going wrong you Apple guys!

  • Print delay with Time Capsule

    Hello,
Got the TC hooked up and did a backup for 3 macs around the house. That worked fine. Wireless speeds are good.
However, printing isn't quite up to speed. When I print a document (for example a single sheet of text) it takes between 5 and 20 minutes to come out of the printer.
My three computers have all finished their initial back-up and are all essentially sitting idle, so I don't think the TC is especially busy.
I uninstalled and re-installed the printer (Brother ML-2010 - TC had no problem 'seeing' it), did all the software updates (10.5.2), turned the printer off/on, etc.
Any ideas? Having the printer fire up and print 20 minutes after hitting the print button is kind of odd.
    thanks,

I had success with getting a Samsung ML-1630 to print via Time Capsule this way:
*Plug printer to TC using USB cable.
*Check what services TC is advertising for your printer using a program like Bonjour Browser.
*Look for a Printer PDL Data Stream - see what IP it is advertised on, should be the IP of your TC - usually 10.0.1.1 or 192.168.1.1, with a port number of 9100.
*Set up a new printer in Print & Fax panel by clicking the "+" button
--then click the "IP" icon in the panel that appears
--choose settings as Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket
--enter the IP address of your TC that you found above (leave the port number off)
--leave the queue name blank (those with multiple USB printers connected will want to experiment with this)
--you can set name and location as you like
--select other driver and navigate to the appropriate PPD from /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/
Your new printer should work as long as you don't change the internal IP of your TC. (As far as I can tell, the reason this works is that is avoids the flakey riousbprint service, forcing the Mac to print to the Jetdirect socket on port 9100. This would also explain why some posters are able to print from Windows machines but not Macs - avoiding mDNS/Bonjour/Zero-Conf is more stable, in my experience.)
Note that this setup will not necessarily allow you to print to your home printer from elsewhere on the internets, so if that's your goal, this may not be the solution for you.
Note also that I consider this a workaround at best - not a solution (hint... firmware update... hint...)
