USB Printing from 10.3.9

I cannot print from an iMac running 10.3.9 to a Canon iP4200 which is connected via USB to an eMac running 10.5. Printer sharing is on. Worked fine on 10.4. I can select the printer from Rendezvous printers, but when I tell it to print, nothing happens. Shows that it's printing in the Printer Setup Utility window on the 10.3.9 machine, but nothing happens. Nothing in the queue on the 10.5 machine. Thank you.

I answear to my own question:
I removed the printer and reinstalled it and now it works ok.
Try this if you have printer problems with 10.4.4.

  • Printing to USB printer from DOS

I have been told that I can print from a DOS or Windows 2000/XP
workstation to a USB printer attached to a Windows workstation. The
program I am running is Accpac Plus DOS based version which is loaded on
the Novell Server. Accpac has older version HP print drivers, from what I
understand the USB printer somehow emulates the older print driver.
I am currently printing to a Canon BJC265SP printer connected by LPT1 to a
workstation, I would prefer to update to a later printer, but need to keep
the current version of Accpac and Novell.
    I have Novell 4.11 SP9
The Novell tech I use does not know if this can be done. All help would be
    appreciated.
    Thanks

If you're able to put the printer in NDS you can route the jobs through a
queued object then to a NDPS object. This is done by configuring the pc
to print to a queue based printer, then with the same physical printer's
NDPS object add the queue name in the "Service Jobs From NetWare Queues"
field found under Jobs button - Spooling Configuration.
This allows older DOS apps to use the NDPS object.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sharing a USB printer from 10.3.9 to 9.2

    Hello,
I have a classroom with one eMac running 10.3.9, sharing an HP LaserJet 1300 and 4 flavored iMacs all running 9.2. I was able to configure a USB printer on 2 of the iMacs using Desktop Printer Utility, but the last two don't see any USB printers on the network. I'm running all 5 machines on static IP addresses and don't see any difference between the 4 iMacs.
I've already tried using article 107060 and configuring the last two machines using LPR, but was unsuccessful at that as well. I can connect to the OS X machine through the network, but not its USB printer. I also tried dragging the classic 9 network location file to these two machines, but it won't let me add it to the Network printers window.
Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Mike

I was just going by the help for OS 9 sharing a USB printer. It says to start USB sharing on the "host" machine, check the printer to be shared under My Printers, and then drag that printer to the desktop to create an internet location file for the printer. This file is then copied to the Network Printer tab under USB sharing on each of the machines that want to share the host's printer.
I've also tried turning off USB Printer Sharing and just adding the printer through Desktop Printer Utility but there are no USB printers listed when I try to "browse" the network.

  • How to print to my USB printer from another computer on VPN

I have a laser printer (HP) attached to my Mac Pro at work via USB. I can log into a VPN from my MacBook Pro laptop to have SFTP and VNC access to my  computer (it's behind a firewall, along with every other machine in our lab).  Is it possible for me to set up my printer sharing such that I can print to it from my laptop remotely (when on the VPN), but not allow anyone else (within the VPN or outside) to print to it?
    Mike

I can't seem to add it. I did set it up to be shared (on the Desktop). Now, I'm on my laptop, VPN active, and have access to the IP of my desktop machine at work. I try to add the printer (should I use the IPP option, or HP JetDirect or LPD?) by IP address, and it doesn't know anything about it (doesn't see its model number). I pointed it to the appropriate printer description file (by model number), and it added it to the Printers list. When I tried to print, it didn't ask me for username and password, but did say "Unable to get printer status (Bad Request)!"
    What do I try next?
    thanks,
    Mike

  • Sharing USB Printer from Window XP Machine

I just bought a new iMac and a Canon Pixma MX310 from the Apple store. Loaded the drivers on the iMac and my wife's Dell running XP.  When the printer is hooked directly to either computer it works fine. However, my wife wants it hooked up to her Dell. So I set up printer sharing and have found the printer and even gotten it to print blank pages.  The problem I have is the drivers for the MX310 don't show up as an option on the Mac when it asks me which drivers to use for the printer.  I have an Epson 740i hooked up the Dell also and have been able to share that without a problem, because the drivers show up in the window it prints without a problem.
So the question is, how do I get the drivers for the MX310 to show up in the drop down window with all the drivers that came pre-installed on the iMac?

Unfortunately the Canon Mac drivers won't work across a network in this way.
It should work the other way, with the printer connected to the iMac and shared to the Dell PC.

  • How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. Thanks ahead

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.

  • Can't print from XP mode unless it's attached to the VM

    I've followed the insructions here:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/how-do-i-install-a-printer-in-xp-mode/9dc7f464-2bea-42d1-9c45-dea8e039ecd5
I have a Windows 7 Professional machine that our building management guy uses.  The software our system uses has not yet been updated to a Windows 7 compatible version so I've set up XP mode on his machine, installing the software in that VM.
He is using an HP LaserJet 1300 printer connected via USB.  I've followed the instructions at the link above, however after removing the USB printer from the VM (putting it in Shared mode) and restarting the VM I can no longer print to the printer.  I
don't believe it's a driver issue as if I reattach the printer to the VM I can print fine (but Windows 7 can't).  If I move it back to Shared status then Windows 7 can print to it but the XP Mode VM can't.  Is there a step I'm missing somewhere?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
As I know, if you have USB based printer, you can install driver inside VM and use it directly. If your printer is available to Windows 7, it will be shared automatically
I have noticed that some USB devices just don't work well from XP mode if the printer driver is not installed correctly. If your guest operating system is Windows XP, you must manually install the printer driver for each printer.
Please install the printer driver in XP mode.
Furthermore, you can refer this link to configure a network printer for a virtual machine.

hi can any one help i want to get the new ipad for work but i need to print.i see i can buy a usb connector can i print if i plug my printer into the usb.

If you have a USB printer connected to your computer, Mac or PC, you can activate or install AirPrint and print from your iPad over wifi without any special apps.
    Activate AirPrint in Mac OS X;

    Add AirPrint to Windows;

  • HP Deskjet 2540 - connect to pc via USB, can I print from android tablet as well?

    Hi,
I've just bought a HP Deskjet 2540 all in one printer.
I have set it up via USB connection to my windows 7 pc, and it is printing fine.
I also have an android tablet.  Can I also print from this whilst using the printer via USB on my pc.
Any help on if this is possible and what steps I need to do if it is would be appreciated (I have been reaeding the help section on the website but I am just getting more confused).
     Lesley

    Hi @Lesley54R,
You don’t need to have the printer listed with the two different connections unless you’ll be switching back and forth from being connected by USB cable and wireless.  You can delete the one you don't think you'll be using.
To print the web page, please use the browser found within the app. I’ve included the ePrint Mobile App FAQs document for your reference.
In addition I’ve also included the ePrint Product Specifications document. This document has the list of supported email programs, file types and print limitations.
    Hope this helps!

  • Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?

Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?
    a) HP printer with USB port only (no ethernet port) connected to Airport Express
    b) No issue printing from Macs
    Tests
    1) Installed Bonjour 2 - does not find printer (now uninstalled)
    2) Bonjour 3 is listed in programs but no way to access
    3) Using TCPIP address (and no Bonjour) gives 'Unsupported Personality' error when printing test page
    Regards
    Richard
p.s. why are all Windows 8.1 questios n the forum 'Locked' with no reply?

This is possible, but not with Bonjour or any other fixes.  It is just a printer set up based on the Port name of the Airport, 10.0.1.1.
I found the answer on YouTube, Title: Windows Printing For Apple AirPort Extreme without Bonjour Wireless wifi.

  • How do I print from wifi-connected MacBook Pro to printer connected via USB to Win7 PC?

This is really frustrating, and I did not think that anything could be this difficult on a Mac. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium desktop PC connected via ethernet cable to wireless router, and a printer connected to the PC via USB. I recently bought my first ever Mac - a MacBook Pro, which is connected via wifi through the same router. All I want to do is to print files from the MacBook Pro on the printer connected to the PC. I have spent a LOT of time searching all over the web. Have tried some 2 or 3 different methods but none of them work for me, e.g. I shared the printer on the Win7 desktop and then added the printer on the MBP with the IP option with LPD/LPR Protocol, after enabling LPD Print Service on the PC. The printer gets added but when I give the command to print from the Mac, the print job shows up on the printer queue but the "Printing" soon changes to "Error Printing" (or something like that) and nothing gets printed. Then, I have to switch off the printer, remove the print job from the queue and switch on the printer again to get it out of the error state.
I also tried setting up the printer on the MBP using CUPS Admin interface, i.e. localhost:631. Again, printer gets added but document does not print. The third way I tried to add the printer was using the Windows option in the Add Printer dialog, and typing in an smb: URL but no luck with that, either.
Please, can anyone help me? This is driving me crazy
    Oh, and the devices are:
    1) Windows 7 Home Premium Desktop PC
    2) MacBook Pro running OS X Mountain Lion
    3) HP Deskjet F2110 printer
    Thanks...
    - Ajoy

First Install Bonjour for Windows on your Windows machine. This will allow the printer to be discovered.

  • I cannot print from my iPad using airport express. My printer is not AirPrint compatible but is connected to airport express thru USB port. My laptop can print with no problem thru the express unit. My lap top is no a mac.

Good day, my iPad does not seem to pick up my printer. My printer is not AirPrint compatible but is connected to my airport express thru the USB port. My laptop which is windows type connects to the printer via airport express thru bonjour and this work well. My iPad does not pick up my printer thru the airport express. I have read about different software that you can download but this seems to be only if you are using a mac. I know my express is working fine as I can use airplay thru my iPad. Any ideas? I do not want to go to the expense of changing my printer, when there was no mention in the express details that your printer had to be AirPrint compatible or indeed wireless.

See this article to learn how to print from an iPad to your USB printer when you have a PC.  The PC will need to be running when you want to print from the iPad.

the ipad cannot airprint to a non airprint printer.... i think that the only solution is to install helper software on a computer that has an attached printer and share it through the computer only...computer would have to be always left on

You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.
