Usb prob

hello?there is a problem with my usb port on my Nomad Zen Xtra (30gig). It simply just doesnt respond to the computer when i connect it with the usb cord anymore, so i cannot move music on or off the mp3 player. i've wanted to buy a new player, but my whole collection is trapped inside. i've had it for a while now, so im pretty sure i dont have a warranty anymore. is there any way i can fix this myself? or am i pretty much just going to have to send it in to have it repaired?

Would it be too far fetched to think there is a problem on the circuit board (a la Zen Micro's) where neglect in the manufacturing process resulted in a loose conntection between the USB connections on the circuit board?Seems like a non-responsi've USB port would be due to a faulty connection at the USB port. If it's under warranty hound the Creative folks, but it might cost you to fix it. If it's out of warranty you may want to take it apart and soldering it, but I can't say for sure if that's the problem as it has been on the Zen Micro's headphone jacks.

  • Trying to decode this from USB Prober re. old joystick device

I'm troubleshooting a USB issue with an old joystick device. I can't find explanations to the various fields in USB Prober, i.e. what are the consequences of specific values/labels. I would like to verify that this device will not work with OS Mavericks or if possible find a workaround.
The device shows up on USB Prober, but it will not show up in "Joystick and Gamepad Tester" for Mac and will not work in FG v3.0 for Mac.
The device does work under a virtual WinXP on my iMac, but the application (FG v3.0) under the virtual machine is running very slow.
I suspect the "Not Captive" could be the problem, but I would appreciate help to simply understand what the various outputs from USB Prober means for this device and what you think causes it not to work and of course if there is any way in your opnion to make it work.

The Wingman Force and Formula Force are not USB HID products
They do not use the common drivers that HID products can
They are serial products that can use a special USB adapter and communicate to the PC in very nonstandard ways
Their feedback effects HAVE to be prewritten to the memory of the device and executed by calling to the memory space of the effect. Every USB Force Feecback device we made after these two devices can accept on-the-fly effects sent to them from the comptuer and do not require preloading to the hardware.
The memory of the device was quite good at the time of the build, but now and with what game developers are doing, it's very limited
To extend the life of the product, we implemented ever-more complex tricks to get the device to transparently work as long as possible, but modern game effects continued to put more demand on the hardware.
With 64-bit addressing, our tricks were completely broken. Considering the limitations of the hardware on such a fundamental level, we did not continue development. To unify the codebase, all support was taken out for both 5.x builds, and if you want to continue using this product, use LGS 4.6 on a Windows x86 machine.
Our LGS 4.6 code is not prepared for public release and I do not think we will ever release it openly.

As long as you have not reloaded much (or any) new information to the iPod (or the PCs), the following links will direct you to software that has a chance of recovering some or all of your music files. Most are not shareware or freeware, so you may have to spend a little money.....
This PodSalvage software will only work with Macs running OS X. See the PodSalvage page at SubRosaSoft.com: http://www.subrosasoft.com/MacSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=2
This link will give you several 'Erased iPod' recovery resources for both Mac and Windows users:

Make sure you read through many of the posts on the iLounge – some folks had good results, others had poor results. There seems to be a split camp on the effectiveness of recovery programs.
Either way, strongly consider a backup strategy after you recover/replace your music: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=210939&messageID=1215125

I have a 4Gig Flash Drive that doesn't mount. It shows up in both SYstem Profiler and USB Prober. Is there any way to "fix" it? I don't need to recover any files - I just want to be able to use it.
It used to work, maybe a year ago. Havn't touched it since.
The port is just fine, it's definitely the drive.
    Thanks for your time!

it doesn't show up in disk utility. unless there is a way to force mount it, disk utility can't help.

Can you explain to me what it is that makes this device unserviceable in Mac OS?
Besides the virtual machine where there is a WinXP driver there's also a driver for it in Linux. I do not know if the open source of Linux can be used for anything in this respect. Do you know anything about that?

  • 2011 MBP can't use keyboard or trackpad or external devices following installation of usb prober.

First, I was having trouble with a USB mouse, so I went looking for information about troubleshooting that.
Someone suggested installing USB Prober, which I found and attempted to install.
The installation asked for a restart, so I restarted.
At login screen, I can't use keyboard, mouse (trackpad), or any USB devices.
I'm able to use key combinations at the beginning of boot, so I reset PRAM and NVRAM or whatever they are.
I was able to use key combinations to boot into my Windows partition, and into single-user mode, and into safe mode, and verbose mode.
--Using the Windows partition appears to be useless for fixing the Mac problems, as far as I can see, since I can't modify the filesystem that way.
--In single-user and safe modes, I still can't use the keyboard or mouse.
    I found this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4021048?start=0&tstart=0
But that discussion reached no conclusion, and as I said, I tried that one user's suggestion already.
Super frustrated; please be charitable and save my sorry butt.
    regards,

No; no no; I don't need the developer forum--I'm not trying to use USB Prober. For all I care, I don't need the USB ports right now. Forget them and the stupid tool, and being unable to use the stupid tool.
I just want to be able to use the keyboard and trackpad, as I was able to before installing the stupid tool.
If you can, help me make everything the way it was before the developer tool. Without going to 781 forums in 36 languages and as many hours. My brain is puny and will implode.

OK, I think you are trying to connect the printer wirelessly to your wireless router, right?
I think that is the way to go, so let's do that:
    1. Restart the router by pulling its power cord momentarily.  Let it restart.
    2. On the front of the printer go to Setup > Wireless (or Netowrk, not sure) > Wireless Setup Wizard.  Run the Wizard to connect your printer to your router.
    3. After that, go to Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
    4. Finally re-add the printer with these instructions:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • 845PE Max 2 USB probs

    Hi all,
I have an 845PE max2 board w/ XP pro (my problem exist with or without SP1). My understanding is that there are six USB ports on this board, two of which can be used by either the front of case jacks or the the jacks on the diagnostic plate. I'm using the diagnostic plate and the four on the back of the case.
I have two usb 1.1 hubs (one powered, one not).
No matter what peripheral I plug in to any jack (hubs or on the case) any given day, when I boot up, it will not be found. It is intermittant and I cannot recreate or cause it to happen. I unplug the item and plug it back in and it's found. This also happens with the non-powered hub, the hub itself is not found until I unplug and replug. It doesn't seem to happen with the powered one.
In device mgr without the 1.1 hubs I have:
    -universal serial bus controllers
       intel(r) 82801db/dbm usb universal host controller -24c2
       intel(r) 82801db/dbm usb universal host controller -24c4

Sounds like you installed the wrong drivers try to follow this
ok here are the steps if you would like to know:
    Assuming Fresh install of XP
    After installing XP pro,
    Install SP1,
    Reboot
    Install Intel INF Drivers
    Reboot
    Install USB drivers manually
    right click my compter
    click properties
    click hardware tab
    click Device manager
you will see yellow (!)Exclamations right click it and hit update driver set it to auto install.... do it for all until all usb drivers are installed. reboot and your done.

  • Zen Touch USB Prob

my player recently showed 'Firmware problem' so i had to go to recovery mode and reinstall firmware, and also format the hard disk.
The problem i have is that when i plug the player into the USB slot, it comes up with a message that says 'Hi-Speed usb device plugged into non hi-speed usb port' or something similar. then i click on the message like it says, and it shows me a diagram of my usb controller branching off into each individual port. the creative zen bit has a yellow symbol with an exclamation mark which usually shows when there is a problem with the connection
the bottom line is, windows is not communicating with the player at all, even though i have gone through the CD installation twice. This was a problem for me when i got the player, but i got it working after a while, can't remember how...
anyone got any ideas how to solve this?

    Hi
Not sure if its of any use but have you checked the version level for your Zen Touch, it may have been updated and so you will need to download new drivers and Software to mange your Zen.

  • Continuing USB probs

A couple of days ago I posted having problems with an iBook G4 after a disk crash and rebuild. The issue is I can't see any devices (memory cards) from the USB port.
    * I reinstalled the Fuji software and that didn't help.
    * I disconnected the Mac overnight with all USB ports disconnected to no avail.
When I look at the system configuration of the Mac and specifically the USB port, I can see the San Disk card reader and the reader itself does get power from the Mac port and the power light is on as well as for a fraction of a second the LED shows the EPROM being accessed. But after that the xD card doesn't show up.
I don't have any other format card to test, but the port works well as not only the card reader but the printer works fine off that port. Also, that same card as well as the Fuji camera was seen with no problem prior to the disk crash and system rebuild. Since this is a friend's machine I think her system was an early version of 10.3 and once the basic system was installed I performed all the upgrades to 10.3.9
Could there be something between 10.3.1 and 10.3.9 that affects the USB behavior?
Can anyone please shed some light to this? Thank you!
    Siberian
    G4 + Macmini Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Hi, Siberian. xD cards aren't read correctly, or at all, in many cases on Macs running Panther. One remedy that has been reported to work in some cases is to reformat the card in your camera (assuming that's what you use it in) and then connect the camera to the Mac with its USB or FireWire cable, instead of using a card reader.
The problem is not with your USB ports or card reader; it's with the xD card format, which seems not to be fully compatible with OS X for some reason — or at least not as compatible as all the other memory-card formats currently on the market. I learned this the hard way, by buying my daughter a camera for Christmas that uses xD cards, and finding a few days later that she couldn't read the card in her multi-format card reader (a PC Card-slot adapter that she uses in her Powerbook, which reads other card formats just fine). Then she had to rush back to her job at sea, far from any tech support or testing opportunities, before we could figure out how to deal with the problem. Now I'm afraid she may have a completely useless camera with which to record her memories of the adventure of her lifetime. I wish I had known before I bought the camera what I've learned since — and I wish there were a dependable fix or workaround, but apparently there isn't. Mac users should simply avoid xD cards and the Fuji and OIympus cameras that use them.

  • K8T Neo Usb Prob

Hello, one day i came into my room and Turned on my computer to use the USB feature, well i thought  my USB Disk broke, i went to get another one, came home Put it in and it didnt even register as me putting it in the system, other USB Devices work like a game pad and my keyboard and mouse, i tried to upgrade to SP1 For Windows XP and that didnt help, any help would be Gladly appreceatied .

Is this a front USB connector on the case? Are you plugging a USB 2.0 device into it? If so, it is good you put SP1 on since it is needed for USB 2.0, and many comp cases have been reported as having a quirk in the wiring. Here is a response I've given in many USB threads:
    Quote
    Frankenputer wrote:
Check to see if there is a wire running from your Front USB ports to the #10 slot of your USB block which connects to the motherboard header.
USB connector block layout which corresponds to the pin layout on boards with the Intel spec for USB. Do not cut the pin on the MOBO. You are removing/cutting the wire to the connector block from the case.
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.

This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).

  • Vision M Usb Prob

Just got this problem with my vision M today.
When i plug it in, it recognises that it is connected (computer sound) but the transfer screen doesn't come up on the zen's screen and when i go to the control panel it says error 0 could not start.
I've tried uninstalling the device and when i reconnect it, itrecognises the device, the usb screen does come up on the zen but then dissapears after 30 seconds and keeps charging. Can't seem to tranfer nething on to it and can't re-load the firmware cos i need the usb connection! Plays fine otherwise.
Any one know what the problem is and how to fix it.
    Thanks?

You have a USB . port. The ZVM uses 2.0.
So get a new USB 2.0 PCI card.
It will still work with your current hardware but just slowly.

  • Wingman Joystick, usb probs

The joystick work fine most of time, but when ingame, it often get disconnected (error msg from logitech software) and the actual X-Axis and Y-Axis are set to default (dead zone) position.
So as a result, when I leave the stick to dead zone, I pitch rolling to left or right and up or down.
I believe this is a hardware problem since I have no problems when used on other system.
I have a K7T266 Pro ver1.0, usb v1 and v2.0 and both are giving me hard time. My joystick is a Wingman Attack2 from Logitech.   X(

If you have the front panel USB's plugged into the case then note that most cases are wired wrong and that can be this whole issue. You need to carefully check all the wiring and it is usually pin 10 that is the cause of this greif. If it is connected remove it from the wiring harness and tape it off. Then retry. However not that you should check the wiring and not just remove something on my say so. I will not be responcible for you not doing things right.
