USB problems: One of a Kind.

I wanted to upgrade my iPad 1, but it won't connect to iTunes. Eventually I did a hard reset, after which a message appeared, directing me to connect to iTunes. Of course, I couldn't. After connecting and disconnecting the narrow end of the USB cable to different USB ports, I eventually figured out that the problem was somewhere in the USB. Now how to fix it? My iPad's stuck in hard reset until I'm able to connect to iTunes. Please help. Thanks

Would you like to Explain what this means...

Here's your help...
See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.
Note:
The iPad 1 can Only update to iOS 5.1.1

  • USB problems with creative zen

last summer i bought a 4gb creative zen from newegg.com (like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=N82E685502039), and a couple of weeks ago the very short usb cable wouldnt recognize that i had plugged the player in unless i had the cord in an "S" shape. it worked fine for a while holding it in that one spot but then when i plugged the player in, the computer wouldnt recognize it... but it would still recharge. finally it stopped charging too and i was looking for a new usb cable. a few days ago i tried to turn it on and it showed me the "low battery" warning, now when i try and turn it on it does absolutly nothing. i guess my main question is, is the problem just the cable, or is the mp3 player junk?
    any help?would be?great, thanks

I don't really understand your question (which you appear to have answered yourself). You have already tried another USB cable and can't get the player to sync or charge? If not, that is the very obvious thing to try first. Having to hold a cable in a fixed position to maintain electrical contact is an extrememly obvious indication of a cable problem. The charging pins and data pins on your USB cable are different, so it is possilbe to have contact on one and not the other. I know personally, I have a bunch of cables with regular USB on one end and mini USB on the other that work fine with my players. In fact, I've even given away several of these to my kids who have lost theirs. They are kind of like the short telephone cords they include with everything and I never need.

  • USB problems since EFI firmware update 2.6

My MBA has been suffering USB problems since this update.
I have an IOGear USB 3 GUH374 hub.  I connect my iPad mini and USB 3 disk to it.
Since the update, the iPad has stopped charging through the hub.  Now, I can't find the power specs of the hub, so I don't know that it should work, but it was working fine.  Now, the iPad says "not charging".
The USB disk has spontaneously disconnected a few times, with the system reporting that it was improperly disconnected.  One time, the disk was corrupted.
This could be a coincidence, so I've contacted IOGear.  But, I'm also having new, different, sleep problems with the MBA and Mountain Lion.

  • PROBLEM-ONE OR MORE FRAMES WERE DROPPED DURING PLAYBACK... HELP...

    Hallo...
I am very new in the Final Cut Express... I import .MOV documents in my computer and then to a new Project in the FCE... I move to the viewer the pieces I want to create, then when I try to see them it reports me the PROBLEM " ONE OR MORE FRAMES....",
I import data from a Canon EOS 500D....
When I do the same in the Imovie it has no problem...
I read somewhere that "The two specifications are completely different. Your media is not support for editing in Final Cut. It's the wrong frame size, frame rate, and codec. The media should be converted to the Apple Intermediate Codec at 1280x720 29.97fps. You need to use a sequence preset that matches that. Apple does not support the use of USB drives with video applications."
I dont know what are all these... but I tried to change in the EASY SETUP of FCE everything and try it to see if something happens... IT HAS NOT Apple Intermediate Codec at 1280x720 29.97fps IN THE EASY SETUP....
I CANNOT UNDERSTAND.... I HAVE A CANON HD VIDEO MACHINE.... I JUST WANT TO IMPORT MY VIDEOS... MAKE SOME SIMPLE CHANGES, CREATE A VIDEO.... IN ORDER TO USE IT IN MY JOB... WHY IT IS SO HARD WITH FCE??????????????? IT DOES IT IN THE IMOVIE..... SO HERE WHAT IS THE PROBLEM....
AND IF SOMEONE WANT TO ANSWER PLEASE CONSIDER THAT I AM NEW IN THIS PROGRAM ... I AM GREEK AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND PERFECT ENGLISH.... SO BE SIMPLE AND EXPLAIN WITH SIMPLE STEPS HOW IS THE PROBLEM SOLVED....
I READ IN THE FORUM OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND YOU WERE NOT ACTUALLY VERY HELPFULL......

What you read is absolutely correct. You need to use a conversion app, such as MPEG Streamclip (http://squared5.com) to convert the H.264 files from the Canon into Apple Intermediate Codec files, based on the frame rate and resolution you shot the footage in.

  • MS-6390: Return Of The USB Problem!

Almost a year ago I posted a thread regarding a USB problem  in which after a few hours runtime, the USB ports stop  working. Having reinstalled Windows, I followed the  original thread to fix the problem again but this time, it  hasn't work. The old thread for reference is; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=49727.0
but I shall try and include everything important here so it  shouldn't be needed.
    Firstly the nature of the problem;
Any new device plugged into them is not recognisied and  Windows advises that it is the device that is  malfunctioning.
Restarting the computer will eliminate the problem, however  upon rebooting, the computer tends to get stuck at what may  be the memory count. If left for 10 minutes, the memory  amount comes up and the computer boots normally. This is  circumvented by temporarily (one second) removing power to  the power supply by pulling the plug or flicking the switch  at the back.
[It may or may not be relevant that the HDD activity  indicator is lit for approximately 30 seconds of this 10  minute period]
Upon switching the computer on again, the computer boots up  normally and the USB ports continue to function for another  variable period of time.
This problem occurs if there are no devices plugged into  the USB, any single device (printer, gamepad, mobile phone)  or any combination.
It should also be noted that if the computer crashes due to  any of many unrelated reasons after this problem has  arisen, and I use the reset button to make it reboot, the  10 minute reboot problem occurs again but appears  differently on screen in that it actually says 'memory  check' or words to that effect with a space where the  normally RAM amount goes, a  '+'  and another empty space  where the memory reserved for onboard graphics normally  goes (i.e. memory check:       +     )
I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling those  downloaded from VIAs website for my chipset.
My USB ports are set not to power down to save power in  device manager.
The multi-card reader (plugged directly into the  motherboard) also stops functioning when the USB ports go  down - power light stays on, activity light stops flashing  (occasionally power light turns off). Unplugging it from  the motherboard does not resolve the issue.
I want to resolve this issue so the computer is trouble-free when I give it my mum to learn from.
Comp. specs in signature. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how to dig deeper...  Soon this computer will only be using a single 80 gig HD, and I'll remove the fan controller (it'll be mums computer). I'll then be able to try just using sp1a.
This PSU I'm using is reviewed here with a several others. (the model number is the same, but the one tested doesn't appear to be dual rail - they actually state the number slightly incorrectly, but it's correct in the picture of the label they show.
I think it performed quite well, being one of only two that were able to keep producing (just) over 1 v at 100% load, whilst most others just plumetted. A significant but probably not damaging drop to 4.87v on the 5v rail and again 3.26 on the 3.3v rail all at 100% load (which you're never supposed to due to the PSU anyway). It got a recommended award since apparently it doesn't have many features but I don't think I'm in need of any features it lacks.
Furthermore - at the back it has a control for fan speed. Currently set on Auto, it maintains the same fan speeds (audiability) as on Low - thus I conclude it has headroom to push itself if necessary (in which case the fans would spin faster).
Apart from someone who said they're "cheapo", I havn't yet found any negative comments regarding Jeantech PSUs.

  • Macbook Air 2011 USB Problem

Hi, I recently bought a Toshiba portable hard drive that uses usb 3.0. For some reason, my mid-2011 macbook air 13" is unable to connect to the drive with the USB3 to microUSB3 cable. However, the hard drive worked on a late 2010 macbook air 11", other macbooks and pcs using the usb3 cable. The Toshiba portable hard drive did work with my 2011 air with my friend's USB2 to microUSB2 cable so I decided to buy one on Amazon. Unfortunately, the cable that I bought from amazon did not work with my macbook air but it did work with my other pc.
My question is: Does my macbook air have a usb problem and should I go to apple store to get it fixed?
    Thanks!

There have been more than a few threads on this subject of the USB 3.0 Toshiba Canvio problems. Here is an ongoing rather current discussion of the issue.

  • K8T800 USB Problem

    Hi,
    First time poster!
I have a problem which I would be grateful for some advice on. Maybe the solution is for me to update the bios but thought I should check first.....
Basically when I connect my ipod to the front USB port and restart my machine, the computer will not get past the initial load screen (with the graphic on-screen). If I remove the USB plug then it continues to boot, but nothing happens unless I remove the plug!
    Is this normal?? Please help!!
    Thanks

Unfortunately u have the same problem i did. Although for me it was any usb device or even some PS/2 mice.
The solution is to spend 7 GBP on a PCI to USB card.
like this one (just an example, have a look around):
    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=1650068478&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=32620
that fixed all my USB problems, which i couldnt fix any other way, and damn i tried!
    good luck

  • New USB-problem? (K7N2G-L)

Did a search of the forum but didn't find any report that seemed the same (sorry if I missed it)
When turning the system on, USB-devices are most of the time not recognized - all settings are ok, the drivers are there, no problems I can discover - until I remove and reattach my USB-devices. At the next soft reboot, they will still be recognized. If I turn the machine off again, I'll have to reseat everything again, kind of uninteresting and tedious after a couple of weeks now.
I have the latest BIOS (3.3), all devices work flawlessly after reseating, and the fun part is that this phenomenon occurs in both Windows 2000 Pro (all updates installed) and Mandrake Linux 9.0 (all updates installed).
The system is currently a little OC'ed, but this happened on the vanillasystem as well. The currents are well withing specs according to the hardware manager of W2K, and all voltages are also within spec (says Hmonitor and AIDA32). I'm at a loss. Any ideas appreciated

I'd doubt it is my memory, but Bonz, sure, here's my entire spec and how I run it minus the PSU. I can dismantle the machine and check what specs it has if you wish:
    MSI K7N2G-L (MS-6570) BIOS rev 3.3
    Athlon XP1800+
    2x TwinMOS PC2700 CL2 256Mb (in dual channel)
    IBM Deskstar 180GXP 80Gb ATA-100 (on IDE0)
    Compaq DRD8120P DVD (on IDE1)
    Samsung CDR(W) SW-408B (on IDE1)
    Compaq MV740 17" Monitor
Tt Volcano 11 XE CPU cooler
    Tt DDR-coolers (1 active w/fan, 1 passive)
    2x 8cm Papst chassis fans
    1x 8cm Delta chassis fan
    1x 4cm fan on mainboard
    PSU: 360W
    PS/2:
     Kinesis Ergo Elan keyboard
     Logitech Trackman Marble +
    USB:
     Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D
     Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP
     Logitech Wingman Gaming Mouse
     Flashmate 4-in-1 Memorymedia-to-USB adapter
     Sharp Zaurus SL-5000D w/cradle
I'm running at 10.5x175FSB (ie 1842MHz) and the memory at 3-2-2 CL2. Don't let that scare you though, as this USB-problem occurs also at 133 and 166FSB, and with memorytimings by SPD (horrendously slow). Nothing is warm and I've installed a fan at the Mainboard heatsink to keep it cooler too.
As I said, this occurs in W2K Pro (SP3) and Mandrake Linux 9.0.
I'd expect behaviour like that from a severely OC'ed system, but not from my modest OC (or from no OC at all). I even backed down a few MHz to let the poor onboard GFX have an easier life 'til that 4800SE ends up inside it. Then there'll be no telling what will happen...
(Sidenote: the DirectX-tests (DxDiag) says the on-board sound do not support hardware buffers. As the SB Live do hardware buffers, that would mean the onboard sound is in some way inferior to a Live from the non-soundquality point of view but rather from system performance?)
EDIT: wonkanoby, I have tried your solution. I'll tell if it seems to help or not. Thx.

  • 808 usb problem

My 808 is having usb problems, most of the time it wont charge and i get these 2 messages on screen >
    Unsupported usb device. Remove cable.
Error in usb connection. Disconnect cable.
Ive been extra careful with it so ive no idea why its doing this, my E7 and N8 are still both fine and they were famous for usb problems!
Its got a 2 year warranty which runs out in 4 months but i live no where near one of the very few care centres in the UK so i cant take there.
Ive contacted Amazon UK where i bought it (Its an official UK 808) but they dont have any stock to replace it and they wont refund me due to its age.
Any idea whats the best thing to do?

You may also try cleaning the usb cable and usb port contacts by using Giottos Rocket Air Blower.

  • HP Pavilion g7-1318dx USB Problems

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion g7-1318dx NB PC ALL that for some reason or another the USB ports (all of them) have stopped working.  They do still provide power, but no data at all.
I have went into the Device Manager and seen the Triangles telling me that the device is not working so I thought I would just simple update teh drivers.  When I tried to update the drivers, I was told that the best drivers are already in use.  I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted, and got the same triangles in the Device Manager.
I thought it might have been a corrupted file or files, so I tried to delete the three files it had listed as being used for the triangled USB device.  I of course could not delete a .sys file so I had to take controll of it, reset prefferance and then delete them.   After that I copied over (from another laptop) the same three files and TRIED to use them.  I was told (again) that the best files were already in use.
I have went to the download page for my specific laptop (I THINK) and have NO IDEA what files I needed to update the USB drivers.  I did however update the BIOS and from what I read on some of the sites there was supposed to be something in there to allow me to change the USB settings, SO I guess I actually DID NOT update the BIOS.
Any ideas on what I should do now.
    Thank You,
    Dan

    Hi
Not sure if this will help you but I had a similar problem, the two left ports were not working on my Dv7. This whole time I thought the right USB were my 3.0 ports so I figured it'd be okay but it's been over a year since I originally had this issue and was doing a bunch of system maintenance so figured I'd look through it again. Anyway, I went to Device Manager through the Computer Management tool. I know you can go straight to device manager, but just giving it to you exactly how I did it. You can just search computer management from Start.
So I selected Device Manager from the menu on the left side and it looked like regular device manager. Went down to Universal Serial bus Controllers... at this point I looked at the action menu on the right and selected more actions, view, and clicked Show Hidden Devices. After that i went through my USB Controllers one by one as I had done many times before and checked them out, tried updating drivers, etc... I noticed underneath the USB Controllers Section something like xHCI Compliance Test Host Controller... I right clicked it and went into it's details, I attempted to updated the driver and it installed the new driver. Immediately 2 new USB controllers popped up: Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller and Root Hub.
Switched out a test thumb drive from the right to the left and the computer instantly recognized it and installed the driver for the stick.
And that was that... hope it helps even though it's way later.

  • USB problem with K7T266-Pro

I have an USB problem with Logitech Cordless Wingman Gamepad. I have dowloaded the newest version of logitech gamepad, and the VIA drivers for motherboard K7T266-pro. I also tried to install the USB filter rc1, but the problem remains.
Here is how the problem occur:
    1. On start up, the gamepad is detected and ready to use.
    2. While I am playing a game, the usb device is reconnecting a lot. I turned of the "Allow this device to turn off to save power" in device manager under all USB root hub. But the problem remains.
    3. After a while, when I have been playing for a while, the gamepad turns off, and the usb device is not recognized error message appears. Under device manager I now have a Unknown Device under USB.
    4. To get it function again I have to restart the computer.
Anybody who knows the answer for this ?

I have a similar problem but with my Logitech optical mouse.  It's also using the usb port and it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting the device in Win XP.  I use to have Win2000 and I experienced the problem but not as often as now.  Also in Win2000 there wasn't an annoying sound when a device would connect and reconnect, and not to mention when your playing a game and the mouse quits for 1/2 a second, really annoying!  Sometimes it will quit completely and I have to either physically reconnect it or reboot to get it working again.
I have recently tried fixing the problem:
    a) I flashed my old Bios and put in ver 1.9 from this site
    b) I've updated the Via 4in1 drivers
    c) I've updated the mouse drivers that come from Logitech.
None of these updates helped.  I've taken my mouse to work to see if it does the same thing, but so far so good.  My pc at work is running Win2000 but different MB.  I don't think there is anything wrong with the mouse.  Although I haven't tried using the PS/2 adapter  that came with it and see if it behaves the same way.  I have a feeling the mouse will work fine, but kinda sucks cause I have usb and I have to revert back to PS/2 just so it works properly.
I've read on the Via Hardware forum some people having the same problem but with an Abit board.  They changed something in their Bios to resolve it.  If anyone has any ideas, maybe changing something in the Bios that has to do with the usb ports, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • OT: USB problems

Hey guys... this is off-topic for this forum, but I've seen so many people with USB problems on this forum I had to share this comic strip when I found it.  Have a few laughs, it's good when we're ripping our hair out trying to get a new build to work.

Hi kallah, a good sequence for troubleshooting USB problems is to first of all minimise the potential hardware conflicts involved.
Connect only one device at a time, preferably using a cable which you know works properly on another computer. Get any hubs out of the equation from the start. If you find that most devices work when connected individually, directly to a port on the computer, then the problem is more likely to be software or a problem with a particular peripheral , rather than related to the USB ports themselves.
If none work, though, its probably the ports and the first step is a PRAM reset (hold down command option p r while booting the computer. Keep the keys depressed until the chimes have sounded three times. (There is no pmu reset for these machines, and an smu reset leaves the PRAM untouched, and is therefore not very likely to resolve the problem on an iMac G5).
If devices work individually, but not when more than one is connected, then it is probably a conflict between different devices.
What are the actual devices (brand and model would be good) you have connected through USB, other than a genuine Apple keyboard and mouse?
    Cheers
    Rod
