  • K8N Neo4 (MS-7125) USB, Mic, S/P Out, and LAN ports all non-functional

I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with this.  I'm not a novice when it comes to motherboards but this particular board is making me feel like it.
Ok, I've got a K8N-Neo4 MS-7125 model.  Athlon64 3700.  I have all the current drivers and ran the liveupdate to make sure.
The LAN port will light up, but the Device manager will not recognize it, nor will the LAN utility.
The board has 4 USB ports.  The top two are non-functional, the bottom two work.
The S\P OUT port has never worked, nor do I know how to engage it or find it on the device manager
The microphone....this one is fun.  Its like the microphone is stuck in a feedback loop.  Whatever comes through my speakers, is heard on the other end by other users.  I am not heard at all, although I can hear myself through my OWN speakers.  Even with the mic unplugged, people still can hear my speakers.  Imagine having your speakers plugged into the mic jack.  The only way to kill the feedback is to actually go into the sound manager and mute the whole mic system.
I can live without the LAN and USB ports, but it would be a HUGE help if someone can help me with the mic and S\P ports!!
    Thanks!!!

Ok, I'll do my best to remember everything

As for the flavor of the NEO4 the only other numbers I know of, is on the board it says N1996 right below the processor.  Is that what you need?  Its a PCB V.3 board nvidia Nforce4.
    Speakers are standard cyber acoustic
    Logitech Mic/Headset combo
This particular case allows for hookups for headphones and mic in the front.  The case has jumpers in the back that allow you to gain access from the front (but you probably already know that).  I've always used the front MIC/Headset jack, and I have a splitter in the back for the headphones and that jumper.  In trying to resolve the issue, I tried every jack with the microphone (even the ones that I know are labeled as speakers).  I do get my own voice through MY speakers on the front jack AND the mobo jack.
Hopefully I got you enough info!
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI - Booting with USB attached

I've been unable to find anything definitive about this, so here goes:
I have problems with booting (hangs on post) when I have USB devices plugged in (i.e. thumb drive, ext USB drive, USB scanner). I am using v3.6 now, but haven't tried v3.7. I've received advice in the past to check BIOS - disable boot to USB device - but it still doesn't fix the problem.
Anyone experience this and know exactly how to fix it? I'm tired of disconnecting/reconnecting everything all the time.
    Thanks!

I decided to take the plunge and update to BIOS v3.7, which I hate doing because MSI tends to break things while fixing others in their updates.
    And guess what....it works!!!!!!!
I plugged in a thumb drive, USB scanner, and external USB hard drive, and it boot with them all connected.
    So far so good

  • Front USB ports connection to K8N NEO4 Platinum

the system im building resides inside a CODEGEN Briza A Series ATX tower (Part Number E6097), my question has to do with how im i supposed to connect the frontal usb ports of the case to my MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum board (MS-7125). the board features 3 yellow colored 9 pin (pin 9 is a key (no pin)) standard USB 2.0 connectors, while my case comes with two frontal USB ports with 2 sets of connectors arranged as follows:
+1 3-pin connector with red, white, green wires labeled "USB 1"
*1 1-pin connector with black wire labeled "GND"
+1 3-pin connector with red, white, green wires labeled "USB 2"
*1 1-pin connector with black wire labeled "GND"
*the black wire is part of the connector itself however is detached from the 3-pin and has its own 1-pin connector, which is "ground"
+the 3-pin features a small triangle at the base of the connector with the red wire.
total pin count for both ports would thereby be 6, as some of you already know this board features a 9 pin arrrangement in its yellow usb connectors.
the manual its pretty clear on the need to make sure those connections are correct to prevent damage to the board or the device attached to those ports,
any takers on this one ?

i quote myself on this, and having gone in detail on the boards manual i simply came to the conclusion that those front usb ports shall remain disconnected for the time being

  • Audigy2 + MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra prob

Hi I have an audigy2 from my old pc and installed it on my new system the motherboard is a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra after I installed it I began getting 'Machine_check_exception' blue screen of death, I used the creative auto update to update to the latest drivers, now the pc makes a hissing sound and reboots it's self.
    Any help would be apprecieated.

    hi
i am getting th same thing with my gigabyte nforce 4 board
    ga8nxp-sli
could this be an nforce 4 related issue?
i found through a process of elimination that the conflict apears to be with windows audio service
i turn it off and all the problems just go away but i still get no sound (not much help there i am afraid)

  • Another K8N Neo4, 3800 x2 Problem

Before I start here are the specs
Amd x2 3800 with stock cooling
    Msi K8n Neo4 Platinum
2 gb OCZ Dual Channel Platinum Link
    eVGA 7800gt
    Ultra Xconnect 500watt psu
2 160 gb Hitachi Deskstars in Raid 0 on nvidia raid controller
    2 Ide Hard drives
Problem: Complete lockups in games.(no sound, no mouse, no keyboard, no screen activity) Mainly Counter-strike Source. Battlefield 2 sometimes freezes but it always happens with CS:S. I have tried installing the AMD x2 driver, Microsoft hotfix, the registry tweak to activate the MS hotfix, reverting to the 7x.xx forceware, trying multiple forceware beta drivers, setting affinity to 1 cpu, updated bios to 1.b, formating multiple times trying different forceware drivers etc. When I install Windows before I do anything I am doing a full windows update installing everything until there are no critical updates left and also installing the latest directX.
I ran prime95 on both cores for 7 hours and nothing was found. I ran memtest for 4 hours 30 minutes and nothing was found.
As of right now I should be recieving a Amd 64 3800+ (non x2) tomorrow from newegg and seeing if that works. Here are pictures of my bios settings.
Couldn't get the very last line so heres another pic that includes the Nf4 voltage.
    edit: Forgot to add this
    Memory Timings
Incase imageshack links die/slow heres an alternative http://urlx.org/dmservers.com/064b

I switched the ram to the 2 slots closest to the cpu and it then allowed me to change it to 1T. The ocz guy sent me a whole list of settings which I did but then when I saved and restarted it didn't post. So I tweaked them a bit and now it works fine. According to Everest I am now above the benchmarks compared to the other x2 3800+ on the nforce4 ultra.
1 thing I did notice was that every now and then I would lock up in the bios for some reason. As in I would be changing some settings and then I couldn't use the arrow keys to move at all. I wonder if its because I am using a wireless keyboard or maybe the usb to ps2 adapter is messing it up?
edit: heres screenshots. I know I am big on screenshots.

  • Constant HDD access (K8N Neo4 Platinum)

Hello all, this is my first time posting on these forums.
A couple of days ago I put together a new system for myself, with the following components:
    * Athlon64 3200+ processor
    * MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard
    * 1Gb RAM
    * Gigabyte 128Mb GeForce 6600GT graphics card
    * 2x Seagate 250Gb 7200rpm SATA drives
    * LG IDE dual-layer DVD-RW drive
    * Apacer 7-in-1 internal USB 2.0 card reader
    * Thermaltake "soprano" ATX midi-tower w/ 400W PSU
The two hard drives I have connected to ports SATA5 and SATA6 on the motherboard and set up in a RAID1 configuration (using the on-board Silicon Image SiI 3114 RAID controller). I then installed Windows XP Professional, which went on fine. The only problem I have now is that the hard drives are being constantly accessed by the system, even when I'm doing nothing on the system. This isn't just an occasional access once every second or so, the little HDD LED just flickers away merrily the whole time. I have run both filemon and diskmon on the system, and found that while no particular files appear to be being accessed, there is almost constant write activity being performed to the hard drives.
I have narrowed it down to somehow involving the Windows XP RAID drivers. If I boot from the Windows XP install disk and load the third party drivers for the SiI 3114, I get the constant disk access when sitting at the first screen of the install process ("Welcome to Windows XP" text-only screen). If I do the same without loading the drivers (thus Windows does not recognise the RAID drive), no disk access. I have tried updating the RAID controller drivers under the Device Manager (now up to version 1.2.0.0), but it does not fix the problem. I have done a full virus and spyware scan (bearing in mind that this is a clean install), with no results. I have checked all running processes and services (including making sure Indexing Service is not running), but have been unable to find anything that could be causing this constant activity. I have yet to try actually breaking the mirror and running the drives off the normal SATA controller. I will be trying that tonight when I get home if no other solution presents itself, but obviously I would rather get it behaving properly in RAID1 if at all possible.
It's driving me crazy. There doesn't appear to be any actual issues with the performance of the machine, but the constant hard disk activity can't be good for the drives long-term. I have searched these forums for a possible solution, and while some people have had similar problems, none of the suggested solutions have worked for me so far. If anyone can help me with my dilemma, I would be Eternally Grateful(tm).

Yes! At least I'm not alone... constant disk ticking is driving me nuts too.
I have same issue with a newly built system - different board but Sil3114.
My C: is on the NF4 SATA interface, but I have 4 250GB Seagaets on the Sil3114, intended for a RAID5 array. Having installed XP, I've become distracted by the constant disk access and have been trying everything to eliminate it before proceeding with the rest of the build - nogo. Your post gave me the clue - boot with Sil3114 disabled = no disk activity; boot with enabled = constant disk flogging.
I've got the Sil driver up to 1.2.3.1 but no better. Suspect it may be the Sil3114 BIOS that needs upgrading but seems no way to flash it - have you got anywhere with your debugging?
Appreciate a solution before I go crazy with the tick, tick tick....

  • Firewire/1394 devices are not auto-detected with k8n neo4 platinum

I am unable to detect firewire/1394 devices to my PC through my K8N Neo4 Platinum. That is, I plug in the device through the firewire port and windows doesn't detect that a device has been plugged in.
    I have tried:
-2 firewire devices, both are Canon digital camcorders (ZR10 and ZR25MC)
    -2 different firewire cables
-reinstalling windows, got all windows updates except
(Microsoft Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider Package: x86 (KB909520))
    -patch from microsoft, discussed here
    (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=81749.0)
-both firewire devices using both cables connect just fine to a test computer
-both my computer and the test computer have Windows XP Pro SP2
Windows doesn't make the noise "bah-dum" that it has detected a device, nor does it display the dialog that gives me options of what programs to use. Once in a while, if I leave it connected for a while and come back, windows will eventually find it...or windows might bog down and get really slow. It speeds up again instantly once I unplug the firewire device. Strange, I know. Also there are NO conflicts in device manager.
    Could it be?:
    -bios misconfiguration
-need to use an older chipset driver (i am using most recent from nvidia.com)
-onboard audio or front audio needs to be disabled
-the k8n neo4 platinum simply has connection problems with some firewire devices
    (i hope not)
    Bob

    Built2Last: (good questions!)
I tried your suggestion by removing PCI cards and made FURTHER progress. I found out that my firewire card, the Syba NEC1394-P3, has some compatibility issues with my other PCI cards. I found this out because:
    1. it worked fine after I placed it in a non-comm (orange) slot and removed my soundcard (X-Fi) and Belkin wireless modem, and
    2. a tech support representative from Syba told me that that particular firewire card has compatibility issues
    Quote
Also, SD-NEC-4F is our older model firewire card.
Our new firewire card (SD-PCI-4F) is using VIA VT6306 chipset and no customer complain about any installation issue so far.
If the SD-NEC-4F still giving you trouble, I'll suggest you to return it and exchange for the SD-PCI-4F firewire card.
At least he is honest and wants to help, so I remain impartial towards Syba.
So I figured out the firewire card, but not the onboard firewire. Ok, but check this out! When the Syba card was working, I could plug in BOTH the external hard drive AND either of the Canon camcorders to the Syba firewire card. Windows all three devices just fine. Again, the onboard firewire would ONLY detect JUST the external hard drive, but would not detect either of the Canon camcorders. It seems as though the ball again is knocked back into MSI's court on this issue. Any ideas?
    syar2003:
As for drivers, I checked for drivers for: onboard firewire, add-in firewire card, and Canon camcorders.
-I cannot find where there is an MSI firewire driver for my onboard firewire port. I originally guess that it was part of my chipset driver installer, but the README doesn't say anything about it. It is also not an additional download on MSI's website. But since it detects an external hard drive I figure I must already have it.
-The add-in firewire card does not have drivers. I repeat, they do not exist. The manual and Syba's website both state that drivers for the card are included all versions of Windows back to Windows 98.
-Canon's website has a driver/software download page but it also appears that drivers do not exist for the Canon camcorders.
Yes the camcorder is set to VCR mode.
Yes the IEEE1394 is correctly installed, since external hard drive connects okay.
I tried two DV cables and both are connected fine.
The camcorders do not support USB as far as I can see, and if they do, I'm not using it.

  • Problem replacing K8n Neo4 Platinum

Hello everybody, this is my first post here, I am a new member from Italy.
    I have this problem:
I own a K8n Neo4 Platinum and when I changed the VGA from Nvidia 6600 GT to 8600 GTS the Mobo doesn't post anymore.. The usb diagnostig bracket says it's a memory problem but when I've put my memory banks on a different PC, they work just fine.
I think the problem was caused by the little space that I had between the VGA and the chipset cooler (Zalman passive);when I installed the VGA I damaged the chipset. Taking a closer look at it I noticed that 1 edge is damaged. I also substituted the Power suplly but the result is always the same.
So I decided to replace the mobo but I don't want to reinstall windows. Finding my same mobo is impossible here in Europe. I only found the K8n Neo4-F.
My question is the following :
-Does this Mobo use the same drivers that were installed on my HD? (latest driver downloaded  from Nvidia version 6.86)
-Will I have problems with Windows ?

  • Looking for bios version 1.7 for K8N Neo4 FI - plz help, it's urgent

i bought myself a new K8N Neo4 FI yesterday together with a msi nx6600gt and an A64 3200+ Venice e6 and when i booted up the bios said i had 1gb of ram @ ddr266 in single channel mode. i tried to set it to 200mhz ddr but it wouldn't go so i installed win xp anyway and when i tried to run 3dmark i got artifacts all over. someone suggested that i downgrade to 1.8 so i did and my artifact probs went away so now i still have to deal with my memory and for that someone else suggested to me that i downgrade to 1.7 until the next bios comes out so i tried looking for version 1.7 and after about 4 hours of searching i still have nothing to show for it. can someone plz plz plz tell me where i can find it???

Not to mention if you're gonna buy a 2nd power supply, why not buy one good enough to feed all of that hardware.  Good reliable brand name PSUs aren't as costly as some might think, it's actually a rather cheap price to pay for peace of mind.
As for knowing if it will solve your problem or not, we can't garantee, you might have more than one problem in your system.  The PSU is definitely a problem, but there is no garantee everything will suddenly fall into place after you change it.

  • Strange K8N Neo4

Hi, got my K8N Neo4 AMD 64 bit system built and having strange probelms.
    My System:
    K8N Neo4 with AMD 64 3000+ (Winchester Core) 939
    Geil 1GB PC3200 400MHz 2-64x64 Dual Channel Ultra Series DDR Memory 184Pin
Maxtor 250 Gig Sata Hard Drive (Main Drive)
Maxtor 80 Gig IDE Hard Drive (Archive Drive)
    Nec 16x 3500A DVD-RW Drive
Sapphire Radeon X600 Pro PCI Express 128MB DDR Video Card
    BUFFALO WIRELESS USB ADPT
    Creative Labs 56k Modem.
    ChiefMax 650W PSU (+3.3V=36A, +5V=36A, +12V=34A, -12V=1A, -5V=1A, +5VSB=2A)
My problems,  I get Random Lock Ups,  USB Devices not being recognized.
When Pluging in a PQI iStick Pen Drive, I might get that the USB device is not Recognized, or the Computer might just Lock UP.
Also will get the same thing with other USB Devices, like a LogiTech 4000 Pro Web Cam,  my Epson C80 Printer.
Also have been on the net just chatting with Yahoo IM or surfing when the system will just reboot or Lock Up.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Gordon
PS.  I am not Over clocking at all.  No Desire to overclock,  computer is fast enough for me.  I don't play games except for FS 2004

Ok, I will try posting this again.  (Computer rebooted while typing it)
I moved my PCI Modem to the Orange PCI slot and most of my lockups are gone.  Not all, just don't seem to be as many.
Still have the USB problems.  ON boot up, usb works great.  after awhile, usb seems to disappear.  When any thing is plugged in, just get that the device could not be recognized and any USB devices that are plugged in  no Longer work.
So, could it be my PSU?  (see first post for specs)  or M/B crapping out?
When My computer restarted from a Random Reboot, Windows said it recovered from a Serious Error.
When ever I have had to Power off the system and reboot from a lockup, I have not gotten that error.  So, really not sure if it would be the PSU or not.
Are there any PSU testers that would help?  Not those yes there is power, no there is no power type.

  • K8N Neo4 platinum edition v1 (bios W7125NMS V1.6 062305) -- after POST stucked

    hi i'm runningan athlon 3000+ in K8N Neo4 platinum edition v1 (bios W7125NMS V1.6 062305) and i have a very like problem:
today i tried to install freebsd(install started fine, nothing went wrong, i repartioned my hdd and the installer started),
for some reason i had to abort the installation process. since then i can not boot in from any device(cd,usb the hdd is in a
half way to bsd install state so it's not an option atm).
the post screen comes up and i can interact with it in a way(i can press tab and it drops me
to the detailed post screen,ctrl-alt-del also works i can restart with it), but i neither can enter to the BIOS setup /DEL/  nor the boot menu /F11/.
i've tried reseting bios settings by flushing cmos(removed the battery, pressed SW1. something must happened because the post now checks for sata devices
and the graphical screen/that one u can bypass by pressing TAB/ was not presented before).
it also detects my hdd and my cd-rom too. but still nothing happens after the POST.
others said updating my bios would help. but still there is no option to boot from.
if i am doing wrong something please let me know,
    thank you for your help
    Andrew

    the solution:
disable ide1/slave when the broken hdd is not connected and bios accessible; poweroff; reconnect the broken hdd to the PC;poweron; boot from a linux livecd; gpart/fdisk/something to repair the broken hdd;be happy life is nice
the trick was that bios and post is not messing with the broken hdd(while it was blocked in the bios)
so i could boot with a live cd when my hdd was connected to the PC.
since linux trixx out bios i was abel to interact with the post_killer_hdd (even it was blocked in the bios).
i hope somebody will be able to use it one day if something is not understandable drop me a PM.
problem solved im installing the os to the hdd, topic is SOLVED.
maybe the other guy who has some similar issues with his config/hdd could use this post too.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum Wont POST please help!!

ok, i built this pc about a month ago. everything has worked perfectly until yesterday. When i turn the power on, al i get is the Platinum Screen. I cant go into Bios, i cant Post.. The PC beeps once like normal, and the LED on the Motherboard and the videocard come on. Ive tried wiping the CMOS, Tried a different PSU, tried removing one of the memory sticks. I tried just connecting the Mobo, video card and harddrive, to see if it want getting enough power. Heres what ive got:
    K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI
    Athlon 64 3500+
    Geforce 6800 Gt
    1 Gig corsair 3200 ram (2x512mb)
    550 watt PSU

reset the bios, make sure its RESET.
then, try with just 1 stick ram first.
remember, to run dual for this board, it has to be Slot 1  &  Slot 2.
If u follow the color, it'll be single channel instead.
Read also the instruction, it says never plug into 2nd or 4th slot with 1 stick ram.
Try with 1 stick ram. if it boots, then insert the 2nd into Slot 2.  for dual channel.
i had similar prob few days back when newly purchased.
    good luck !

  • MSI K8N Neo4-F Problems

I'm on my very first build and I'm running into problems.  When I power up, all the fans spin up properly and the D-Link LED's go through the usual settings but it gets stuck on the combination that the manual translates into "Initializing Floppy Drive Controller - This will initializing Floppy Drive and controller."  The D-Link LED's just hang there and I've left it alone for a couple minutes and it still wouldn't budge.  On the screen, sometimes I can see the POST message and other times I see nothing at all on the screen from the various times I've restarted the computer.  Any idea why it's hanging on this certain combination and not booting me to the BIOS setup screens?  These are my system specs...thanks:

    Hi!
First, the problem is I made this computer for a friend and when I boot the computer it always freeze at startup. I hear the normal bip when you start the computer then I see the first screen where it says to hit del to enter SETUP but it freeze there. I can't even go into BIOS. I have 2x512 MB in dual channel and when I remove one I can usually be able to go into the bios, then once there I check if everything is there by default ( I already reset cmos ) and it looks good then I reboot and it freeze again. I really don't know what to do...
But I will tell you the whole story. First I get the computer and at first boot I get no video signal. I see that I forgot to put the spacer between MoBo and the case. Then I fix that, comp boot I go into bios. I made another error by setting the FSB speed at 400 mhz because I read that it was going at 400 (I forgot that it was 200 x 2) so I reboot and I get nothing. I reset the cmos by pressing the button then i can get into bios.
From there I changed the boot order and I make it so MSI doesn't show his logo when you boot but you get the POST instead. I exit and save then I start getting that problem... Since then I am not able to go into BIOS unless I play with the memory module. Another thing is when I can't get into BIOS I watch the 4 LEDs on the USB thing you add to the MoBo (definition here http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp#1_3 scroll down a bit). When I can't get into BIOS I get a combination (1 and 3 red) saying "testing base and Extended Memory, Testing base memory from 240k to 640K and extended memory above 1MB using various patterns" and when I changed the memory and I get into the bios (2 red) I get " Initializing Floppy Drive Controller, This will initialize Floppy Drive and controller". I got that from the book that came with the board.
    The comp is:
    MSI K8N Neo4-F
    Athlon 64 3200+
    MSI NX6600 TD 256 FX6600 PCI-E
Antec SLK1650 MINI TOWER CASE 350W
Kingston 1024 MB DDR400 Dual KVR
    Maxtor 120Gb S-ATA
If anyone can help I would appreciate it! Thank you!

I will add that I tested the ram on another computer and it works fine. Also, when I only have 1 module of ram installed he start to detect the ide drive and sata HD but when It get to the floppy it fail. From there I can go in the bios but when I restart he won't even start detecting stuff he will only freeze after he wrote the memory testing line and then I can't do nothing... or I can hit continue and it even got started with the windows xp install but it crashed, it didn't take long. Reboot and crash at verifying DMI pool data or something like that after I hit continue again after detect floppy fail.
I tried resetting the cmos then reboot and it said that my config was in overcloaking mode and to reset it on the bios... But there was nothing to change. Also tried to continue there but it stop at Verifying DMI Pool Data.
The bios installed by default is v 1.3, which is the only version there's not on the msi website... strange
Anyway I pretty much said all I could, hope someone could help but I have a feeling that the MoBo as problem...

hmm......try takin out all of thec computer parts out of the computer case and this time only reseat the following devices: case, motherboard, cpu, ram, and videocard.
also try replacing the floppy cable and see if the computer will be able to detect the floppy this time. good luck

It still freeze the same way with only cpu ram and video card on mobo...

Try leaving your battery out longer, Some CMOS batteries can take up to 8 hours to clear.

    Welcome to TSF:
    two items for consideration
    A) what is your power supply and specs / this is by FAR the most underated overlooked component that plays such a vital role / the generics PSU just plain cant cut the mustard / they rely on cheap price to lure sales not performance / it doesnt take much of a fluctuation in power to send the newer systems baulking.
    B) download and run memtest86.com on your memory modules / sounds like you may have a trouble maker there. Test them one at a time first / then as a pair
please post back with your findings
    regards
    joe

It could still play a role if I go back in bios and the settings seem to be back at normal? (like the FSB at 200 instead of 400 mhz like I tried to change at first.
edit: Power supply is a 350W smart Power by Antec
    Posted by: Tumbleweed36
    Hi,
An Antec is a great power supply, but frankly, don't think a 350 of anything is big enough to handle what you have. Even an Antec, you probably would need a minimum of a 450 to 480 with a very strong amperage rating. Antec and Enermax is where good power supplies are made if the wattage is what you need. That is the first place I would look after the memory thing is checked.
    Posted by: Talannon
So... I made the test with the ram with this computer and the ram seems to have no problem at all.
So I guess I should try with a better power supply? But even a 350W with only the motherboard, cpu/fan, ram and video card would still not be enough to run it? Because I still have problem while running only that... Before I go out and buy a good power supply I would like to make sure it could be the source of the problem.
BTW, thank you all for the help so far, I hope we can find the problem :(

    Hi,
If you have a Best Buy nearby, go find a good power supply and if it is not the problem, take it back or return it. That way, it would not be an expensive venture that might not solve the problem. Just be careful how you deal with the packaging so you can return it if it does not help. That sounds like the best solution at this time.

Ok, one other I will add is I noticed a trend. If I start the computer I can usually go all the way and start windows installation but it will stop working right after I hit enter to actually start windows installation. If I reset it will always hang at the beginning and unable to even get into the BIOS...
If I put the ram in dual channel setting it won't even start on first startup. But if it's on single channel it will at least let me go to the bios and such (but never recognized the floppy). Dual channel take more juice to run?
With this in mind is it possible that the mobo and/or cpu still be the cause of the problem?
Anyway I think I will try to get a power supply of at least 450W to test it. Just for testing purpose, can I get any power supply even if it's not antec or enermax as long as it has high voltage? I can test it and if it's working I can always return it and go buy a real power supply from antec or enermax where there is one.

I dont think it is your power supply, the power supply you have should handle what you have got no problem, the problem will be your memory...... are the 2 memory sticks you have identical, ie: same manufacturer, same speed, same chips on the board..... to run in dual channel mode you need both sticks to be exactly identical otherwise you will have problems.
What brand is the memory, if it is a cheap brand then you may have compatibilty problems.
Have you run memtest86 when both sticks are inserted but not in dual channel mode?

    Hi,
Before you go out and get another power supply, you need to make sure you have everything hooked up correctly.
Try flipping the floppy cable over and see if the BIOS recognizes it. That is a common mistake that all of us make from time to time. The red stripe (pin 1) goes toward the power plug on that one and it is opposite as a rule from the other ribbon cables, because the normal power plug on the hard drives have the power plug on the opposite side.
Second, tell us exactly what drives you have and how you have them hooked up...here is an example: Maxtor 30 gig IDE, set as master, on the end of the ribbon cable, and connected to IDE #1.
Third, the memory thing does seem to be an issue. Is the memory that you have listed on the QVL list in the motherboard manual?
For now, for testing purposes, just leave one stick of Ram in the board, and do follow the instructions in the manual about where that single stick should be. As an example, some boards require that when you use a single stick, that it is in Dimm2, Dimm3, or even Dimm4 instead of Dimm 1. That feature is new to some who don't regularly build, so please check that out before you go too far.
Let us know these things and we will try to get right back to you.

It will only go in the way I put it. Other thing is the power supply is an ATX with 20 pin. My manual says it should work but it also says that I could use a 24 pin SSI power supply but never use those. Again I am sure the power supply is in correctly cause I couldn't plug it any other way anyway.

Maxtor 160 gig connected on sata 1 and there doesn't seem to ba master/slave option. Is it because it's SATA? It also seems to be detected as IDE THIRD Master on the first page.
LG DVD +/- RW in master on ide 1
    Nothing on IDE 2

My ram is PC3200 (DDR 400) it's supported from what I can read in the book

Manual says it should be in a green slot first which is dimm 1 and 3. I put it in dimm 1 ans it should be fine. The setup like it is now, is in the combination list in the manual.

I've only run test with the ram installed separately...
I also bought my ram as dual channel so I got a kit from Kingston KVR. So they should be identical to each other. Kingston is in the list of supported memory on MSI webpage of the motherboard...

So I tested the both ram at the same time but in single channel and no error.
One thing I notice is when I boot the ram is showed to go at 201 mhz instead of 200. Not sure if it says something...

this might be a real problem, we'll see
    but first:
go into your bios and relaxe the timings on your ram, maybe 3-4-4-8
pump the voltage up on the ram a notch,to maybe 2.7 or 2.8

humm I'm not sure what I should be looking for in the bios for that.
If I put Timing mode in manual instead of auto I can change a bunch of thing. I have no idea what you mean by 3-4-4-8... There is something in that called CAS# latency (Tcl) which is by default at 2.5 but could change it to 2.0 or 3.0. Is that the voltage?
    Posted by: whodatknocking
    try 3
no it isnt the voltage, the voltage would be in another spot in the bios

    changed nothing
I guess I am to a point to check the cpu on another socket 939 MoBo to see if it's the cpu or the MoBo the problem. With everything we tried I start to doubt it could be anything else.

  • New K8N NEO4 Platinum (non SLi) wont leave boot screen???

I just went out and purchased:
    AMD Athlon 3000+
    K8N NEO4 Platinum
Some standard case with a 450w power suply
On the +12v it says I have 18a
And Im using some things from my old PC:
    (PCI) ATI Radeon 9200se (CrapTastic!)
    Maxtor 40Gig (not Sata)
    1x Samsung  PC2700 DDR 512mb RAM
This is my first PC build and I ran into a couple of problems:
I have tried 3 different PS/2 keyboards(2 older and 1 newer) and none of them work. It shows the Platinum screen and then goes to a different screen that says "Keyboard error or not plugged in"
So I try my USB keyboard that I got about a year ago and the lights flash on the kb when I first start up but.....once I get to the Platinum screen the keyboard becomes unresponsive and I cant move off the Platinum Screen into BIOS or anything.
    PLEASE HELP!

Well I went out and purchased a USB to PS/2 adapter and plugged it in with the USB keyboard that would light up but still not work and......................... STILL DID NOT WORK!
Im going on 2 weeks now with no Counter-Strike:Source and im goin nuts

Grimster i agree totaly with jeanguy, you need around 25-30amps min on these boards, so try a mates psu.
Do I really need more than 18a with my system? How much money (ballpark) in US dollars do you think a adequate PSU for my rig would cost???
I am really thinking of just takeing it back and getting it replaced with the same mobo and see if that works.
