USB receptor port has broken off

Hi I have a HP SD500a portable hard drive. The USB receptor port has proken off. I can hear it rattling around inside the hard drive. Can this be repaired? If not is there a way of saving the data on the hard drive?

First thing I would do is check to make sure the sata cable is securely attached. If its loose at all, it may not be connecting. Second is that you do need to go to Computer Management and open Disk Management.Do you see a drive that displays as Unallocated? It should also say how much space is available and it should be "almost" 500GB. Not sure of the exact size but would be 400 something. If so, right click on that and choose New Simple Volume. A new window will open. Leave the size of the drive as is and click next.Assign a drive letter that's not already used in Disk Management.Click Next and choose the option to not format the drive. That way, if this works and all it needed was a drive letter, it wont wipe the data on the drive. Give the Volume label field a name for the drive (example: Old Simplesave).Click Next and select Finish. Note I: I don't think you will have to format the drive in the instructions above, but if it wont work without formatting, you would lose your data. If you reformat, you can try recovery software to recover most of the data. A small percentage would be lost due to the formatting process though. Recuva is a free recovery tool that works very well.Note II: If the unallocated space shows up as a very small amount and or you only see that drive identified as a CD drive, then either the drive has failed or it has a CD emulator chip built onto the board of the drive and is possibly preventing you from connecting it directly to SATA.
Let me know if this works or not.

  • Am I the only person whos incred 2 charge port has broken more than 4 times?

I have only had this phone for a year now and I have had to have it repalced now for the 5th time because the charging port has broke and the phone wont charge anymore. I think this is ridiculous and it is not right to the customer to pay 99.00 for a refurbished phone that will break anyway!!! I am seriously looking to switch to another carrier for not only is Verizon getting over with charging so much for the crappy servie but to also keep replacing a phone 5 times already!!! IS anyone else having this same problem?

I would say most likely yes, just you.
I have had a Dinc and now a TB (They have the same charging port and the Dinc2) and never had an issue. Sounds like you may not be pulling the connector out straight and not by the connector but by the cord.

  • Grounding Prong has broken off.

    I have a HP Envy dv6-7222nr
The grounding prong on my charger has broken up. Is it okay for me to continue using my charger? Also, is it possible to replace the cord or should I just get a new charger? If it's possible to replace where can I buy a new one?

    Hi disneygeek92,
If the grounding prong on the charger is broken that I would advise against using it. How long have you had the notebook for? If you have had it less then a year then you are still in warranty and should call HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or if you are outside of North America visit this link and they will replace it. You can use the same number to call and order a replacement as well. Most computer electronic stores should carry one that you can use.

  • Left command key has broken off - how to replace?

So a few days ago I caught my left command key with my nail and the top half of it lifted away from the mechanism underneath. I pressed it until I heard it click back into place and then merrily continued using my computer as usual. Today I was typing and the whole thing just came off under my thumb, which is annoying to say the least.
The biggest issue is that as I was trying to reconnect key to mechanism, the little criss-cross doohickey came off as well! I am left with a little silicon nipple which, while titilating, is not really conducive to the kind of high volume typing I'm used to!
I really don't want to pay 40 bucks to get Apple Support to replace a single key for me - I just need to know how to do it myself. It's only one key and I could probably learn to get used to using the right one, but it would be easier if I could just click it back into place. It's not broken, the mechanism itself seems fine and the key works if I push the little nubbin, so I'm not concerned about that. I just think $40 is too much to pay someone to click a key back into place! I wasn't even doing anything out of the ordinary with it like trying to remove or replace the keys T^T
I'm especially gutted since I just bought a new iPhone from the same Apple shop I bought my laptop like three days ago - if I'd known my laptop was gonna bust I'd have saved myself the money and spent it on repairs instead! Fml, right?
Any help you folks can offer would be very gratefully received - if it comes down to it and I have to fork out the money then I'll do so, but I'd like to explore community options first on the off chance that someone knows how to replace the mechanism and key without having to lug my computer all the way into the city to get it fixed xD
    Thanks in advance!

It's pretty easy to do, get something thin like a credit card and run it along the bottom and sides of the keyboard and there are several bracket things that will pop the keyboard up when you pressure them. There will be a couple of cables to clip out behind it so lift it up gently.
You should be able to find a video on youtube anyway!
Try this site for the keyboard http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/toshiba_qosmio_laptop_key.html
It shouldn't be too hard to track a replacement down.

  • HP 15 Hinge has broken off

For a couple of days, whenever I would move my screen around. I would get this slight creeking noise from my laptop. Today I closed my laptop and a piece of plastic fell and the hinge is is gone now. There's a piece of metal that I have no idea where it came from resting against the back of my laptop. The screen is basically gone now. I currently have the base warrenty which will expire in September. Anyone that can help?

I just posted about my HP Envy doing the same thing, although my warranty has ran out. There were also posts in the past about the exact same thing with the hinges breaking.

  • Z key in macbook pro pops up on right side. Little pin on scissor clip underneath has broken. No stress on computer, is this apple covered? Otherwise where do I get a new scissor clip. Less than 3 months old.

On the Z key, the little scissor clip underneath on the right hand side has two little pointy bits which connect to the key, the top one of these has broken off and the key is barely hanging on, if pushed on the right side of the key, it pops up. I tried to push it back in but it keeps popping up.
My mac is less than 3 months old. The computer has been treated well and has not been used rough or treated badly, I imagine it's just an accident while typing or a weak clip.
Is this covered by Apple, if not where do I buy a new clip for under the key? -

u can give try to using external enclosre and backup ur files. I hope u will get files back. or using external enclosre with ur hdd boot into Linux and try to mount ur harddisk.

  • Will You Repair My Cricket Usb Charging Port?

Alright, here's the gist of it all. My ZTE X500 by Cricket's usb charger port is BROKEN. I have a very difficult time trying to charge my phone, if it'll even try! It's broken at no fault of my own, and I need it fixed ASAP. Should I try to buy a universal charging pad, or can you guys fix it? If you can fix it, how much would that cost and how long would it take? My Cricket is barely a month old. Please HELP! Thanks!

Bring it to the store to see your options. If they deem the port problem not due to accidental damage, the store might be able to exchange it under manufacturer warranty.

I have a Pavilion dv7 where the speaker cover also has the on/off button. Now the connector for the cable from the speaker cover has broken off the motherboard so I can't turn the computer on. Can this connector be replaced?

  • On the usb port lightning port broken off inside port

ON THE USB PORT LIGHTNING PORT BROKEN OFF INSIDE PORT

If you have a very fine nosed pair of tweezers you can try to pull it out. However take care, if you put any scratches on the device and something goes wrong with your port in the future, someone could use those scratches to void the warranty. (ANY visible damage can be grounds to not honor the warranty)
If you have an apple store nearby, I'd make an appointment and take it in and see if they can remove it.

  • Ipod Touch 4Gen has broken/bent charger port....

Alright so for a few weeks now my ipod has had odd time connecting to itunes and will not even really connect at all to my radio/dock, but luckily it still charges through the computer through the USB cord but it will connect/disconnect several times for awhile and other times it just stays connected. So I looked at the charger port and I noticed it has little metal wires that rest against a black plastic piece and part of the black part it rests on was broken off and in that area some of the metal wires were bent and one or two possibly were broken off but definitely had some bent ones. I typed in my serial number at apple's site and it said my limited warranty is still good for another week so I want to know if I can get it fixed for free if it covers it and if I can't get it fixed free than what is the cost for repairing that part?

If not caused by abuse, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one at no cost. Otherwise the exchange price is $99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity.

  • USB/Power Port broken

The USB/Power port on my 8830 is broken.  Can I download my contact info to a MicroSD card?  How would I do this?  Any other thoughts?  I don't have ithe phone backed up, but will get a replacement from Verizon. Thanks

No, moving contacts to a microSD card is not possible.  The only way to get the info from the device would be via bluetooth to make a backup to Desktop Manager.  In order for Desktop Manager to connect using bluetooth, you need to have the basic Windows drivers installed and not any 3rd party drivers like Widcomm or Toshiba, etc.  When it works, it's quite simple.  When it doesn't, it can get complicated.

my phone has switched off for the second time this week, however when connecting to itunes the restore process wont complete. the error is 2006 however i have tried a number of USB cords, and none seem to be working.
I am in the noerthern [parts of australia and accessing an apple store is not possiable for another month. this is my only soucrce or telecommunication. please help

This is what it says about error 2006
    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.
