USB Recognizing Connection, not Device

Hello all,
After a recent Apple Software Update parts of my HD are corrupt, and my computer suffered a nasty drop the other day, but I really like my computer and want to use this one as long as I can before I have to get a new one.
Now, I don't know whether the update or the drop caused this to happen, but neither of my USB ports are functional. In my System Profiler it shows the USB as connected to a device (camera, printer, or external HD), but the device does not mount so I cannot print, download pictures, or use a powered USB HD. All devices mount and work correctly on other computers.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Nicole

I reset the PMU to no avail. I know the PMU was reset- followed instructions and then was notified my date was changed. I still have the System Profiler showing connection, but connection and mounting not occurring. Anything else you can suggest doing?
The computer is not under warranty anymore. I'm comfortable opening my laptop up (did it before to diagnose a problem) and my boyfriend has his own company building high end electronics, so we could fix any solder problems that might be the problem. I'll wait for your response before we get the screwdriver and soldering iron out!
Thank you very, very much. I know I might have to get a new computer to get 100% functionality, but I just really like my PowerBook, and don't really need anything fancier for what I do computing-wise. Thanks for trying to help me keep it working!

I recently purchased my iPod touch with no issues. After updating to iOS 8.1.1 I found that my iPod would no longer appear in the latest version of iTunes and when I searched for Apple Mobile Device usb driver in the device manager, it was nowhere to be found. I've already uninstalled and re-installed ALL components of iTunes and read every single help article. I've tried everything. What went wrong?

  • External USB Hard Drive not recognized on iMac HELP!!

I am currently using a i5 iMac running Lion 10.7.5
I have recently partitioned a Verbatim USB external hard drive and uploaded all my footage from a wedding. This was done with no problems and the QT videos could be opened from the hard drive.
    A few weeks later, the hard drive does not show up in my finder. BUT it is recognized in disk utility. Here is a screen shot;
    So first I ran "Verify" and it told me to repair disk. After clicking on Repair, I got this;
It is giving me the error message "Invalid B-Tree node"
    Here is more info on the hard drive;
    Name : Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 Media
              Type :           Disk
Partition Map Scheme :           Master Boot Record
              Disk Identifier :           disk1
Media Name :           Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 Media
              Media Type :           Generic
              Connection Bus :           USB
              USB Serial Number :           091004B3066D
              Device Tree :           IODeviceTree:/PCI0@0/EHC2@1A,7
              Writable :           Yes
              Ejectable :           Yes
              Location :           External
              Total Capacity :           320.07 GB (320,072,933,376 Bytes)
              Disk Number :           1
              Partition Number :           0
              S.M.A.R.T. Status :           Not Supported
Can someone give me a step by step on how to get the hard drive working again? It would mean the world to me as this footage is priceless and irreplaceable.
OR can you refer me to someone (Geek Squad? Apple Store?) that might be able to help me out?
    Thanks in advance!

The error message invalid b-tree node size indicates that the directory on the disk is corrupt. The way that it can be repaired is to reformat as disk utiltiy says.
It is recommended that the data be backed up first before either of this solution are done.
Since it is not be recognized by the sytem at all it does sound like you can back it up now.
    Do you have a backup?
If you don't there is every chance you may lose all your data.
You can check to see if a data recovery service can recover any data for you. If you go that route you are looking at spending $$$$

  • USB flash drive not recognized by computer. Have tried all options of which I can think.

Okay.  I have a Patriot S-Mini 32GB flash drive that my Windows 8.1 HP Slimline 400-434 is not recognizing. I believe it recognized it once, and has refused to do so since. My laptop (Windows 7 Toshiba) recognizes it just fine.
All other USB devices function perfectly on this computer. USB mouse/keyboard/USB Hub/Apple iPhone cable.
    1. I have tried unplugging all other USB devices before trying this one. FAIL
    2. I have gone to Device Management and the USB drive does not appear in the list. FAIL
    3. I have uninstalled the USB Root Hubs and restarted the computer. FAIL
    4. I have tried plugging the USB drive into the rear ports that plug directly into the motherboard. FAIL
    5. I have updated the drivers, and have been unable to find a BIOS update as the link on the HP website downloads and says that it is incompatible for my computer. FAIL
...so what the bloody gorram heck do I do now?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Okay, and in the most ridiculous way I have ever solved a technical problem...
The USB flash cannot be inserted ALL the way into the port. It has to be inserted slowly, so that the contacts line up.
I figured this out by trying to connect it into my USB hub and noticing that the red indicator light was going on and off as I inserted the USB drive, flickering on as I inserted it and then off once it was all the way in.
Weird. But hey. It works now.

  • TS1538 What do I do after step 6 in "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed"?

i'm very confused about step 5, "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed" > "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed", what do I do after step 6? I looked for and found the entry that recognizes the device as a camera, "Apple iPhone, now what? I'm trying to resolve an issue. After an iTunes upgrade in July 2012, I have not been able to get my iTunes to recognize any of my devices. I have uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, all the steps. Now I'm on this one and I don't know what to do after this step 6. I looked and found the entry.... now what??? I am out of room on my phone because everything I buy on iTunes on the computer mysteriously appears on my iPhone 4, and everything I buy on my iPhone mysteriously uploads onto my iTunes the next time I open it. My phone will charge when connected to the computer, and Windows recognizes it and asks how I want to open pictures, etc. But in iTunes it will not show up under Devices. This is getting beyond ridiculous and I have to get some of this music off of my phone!

Found a possible solution for me.
While the phone was plugged into my computer and iTunes is CLOSED.
    1. I went to Services in Windows.
    2. I selected Apple Mobile Device and right clicked and selected "Stop".
    3. Then I right-clicked again and selected "Start".
    4. Then I went to Device Manager and right clicked my iPhone with the yellow alert icon and selected "Uninstall".  You will get a warning about uninstalling the device.  Click OK.
    5.  At the top of Device Manager I clicked the Action menu and selected "Scan for Hardware Changes".
This re-installed the iPhone and everything started working again.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 USB Razer Megalodon not recognized by windows!?

Hi guys, I recently just upgraded my PC and everything is okay except my USB Headphones are not recognized on this system oO I had to reinstall windows to get the motherboard to be compatible with my setup and after updating windows and looking up the problem, I haven't found an answer.
The Headphones work 100% sure because they worked on my old mobo and my laptop that is right next to me.
Says its an unknown device and has a ? next to it. Also these headphones use the Windows USB Generic Audio Driver but for some reason its not working.
Any help would be appreciated alot

Try the latest Bios: >>Beta BIOSes<<
I will check for a newer version as well right now.
    Edit: .141 is the latest.
Might want to check for a firmware update for the usb device as well.
Edit#2: Install the ram properly and see if that changes anything. Locking this topic as it is a duplicate.

Found out that the usb driver of http://www.usb-audio.com/ is working !!
Bad news; it costs a sh*tload of money for something that should be working with the factorydrivers in the first place.
So, if you really need to have this thing up and running, there is a solution
I already informed sounddevices and they told me they didn't know this..........
