Usb recovery media made from t430i does not boot

hi i got a problem here
a friend got e new t430i with windows 7 pro 64 bit
so he asked me to install windows 8 he gets from his university on his t430i - therefore i started the rescue and recovery programm via lenovo solution center and did all with a 32 gb flash media.
the flash media is set active but the the recovery system does not start of it  but the R&R does not let me do the whole process once again this time on som DVD's
so how can i do the whole process once again - as otherwise i could not install win8 without loosing the ability to set the system back to win7 factory defaults ?

RnR is not available for win8 systems.
I assume you are trying to backup up the Factory recovery partition on  the win7 system to use in a far future time, ie like if pc is sold.
You are trying to CREATE PRODUCT Recovery (factory install ) backup.  This is only allowed to run 1 time.
(1) Create USB backup wont boot (you have to prep the usb before the backup).
(2) cant run process a second time. You have to change DONE_ini parm inside the recovery partition to allow it to run again.
Both of these issues are discussed in other posts on here.

  • T410 Windows 7 Recovery Media 64bit from Lenovo will not boot

I have been sent 4 sets of Windows 7 Recovery Media from Lenovo over the past week and a half. These DVDs are unusable as they will not boot because they were created as non-bootable DVDs. When looking at the DVDs, they all just have 1 file on them - 0A44006.dvd.  I was sent a set of the 32bit version and it has multiple files on it with Bootmgr and 6 directories and will boot just fine. The 64bit DVDs obviously were created and replicated without any of these files to make it a bootable DVD. Can someone from Lenovo (Morristown, NC) find out why and fix these DVDs. The support center in Atlanta can only order another set from Morristown and I keep getting bad DVDs.
    Solved!

There's probably a way to make a bootable DVD out of that file.  If all have the same file you will probably still be missing a DVD or two - unless the contents of the files in a set are different.  Then again if it "1 of 1" is correct this may be all you need.
You can try a couple of things (just pulling this out w/out much thought...):
Use 7zip and extract the contents to <somewhere> and then burn that as a DVD.  Probably still won't be bootable, though.  Or just use your favorite image burning tool (nero, Win 7's built in burner, whatever) and burn that file as an image.
That may require renaming xxx.DVD to xxx.ISO.  This presumes it is an ISO.  Since 7zip can unarchive it, it probably is an ISO - or something very similar.  7zip may actually be able to tell you what its format is.
Let us know how that goes if you give it a try.

  • Solaris 11 VM from template does not boot

Not sure if this is the right forum (or if it should be in the Solaris section).
I just cloned a Solaris 11 client using the Solaris 11 template I imported from Oracle. After going through the setup screens, the VM starts to boot but hangs on the "Oracle Fault Management" (fmd) service. It seems to be hung in the start method as there are no logs, errors, or anything after the entry about running "start".
Anyone else have this problem? If I create a Solaris 11 VM using the installation ISO and an empty disk image am I up in running in no time. Seems like the template is kind of useless.

I am experiencing this too. We are testing Solaris 11 from the template provided by Oracle.

  • System won't boot to USB Recovery Media

I have a Satellite P55-A5312 with pre-installed Windows 8 (upgraded to 8.1), Intel i5 processor and 6GB Ram.  I created a set of DVD recovery media and a USB Flash (Toshiba brand 32GB) recovery drive.  I set the boot order in BIOS to USB, then DVD, then HDD.  Secure Boot is enabled.
Question I have is, how can I verify that the reovery media will boot if needed?  If I power on the laptop, neither the DVD nor USB will boot and it goes directly to Windows, which kind of makes sense.  If I then restart, the DVD recovery media will in fact boot, but the USB recovery media won't boot.  Even if I restart with F12 and choose USB as the boot device, the USB media will not boot.  The only way I can get the USB recovery media to boot is if I disable Secure Boot.
I find it hard to believe that USB recovery media will only work if Secure Boot is disabled.  What am I doing wrong?

Sure would be nice to know what the recovery media boot behavior is suppose to be with Secure Boot enabled...

  • USB recovery media from Toshiba for Windows 7 doesn´t work

    Hi,
Recently as my laptop Potégé was slow I reinstalled Windows without using Toshiba recovery disks. Now I can't activate Windows 7 (64 bits), so I ordered a USB recovery media from Toshiba. I tried to use it but it doesn't work. I turn off the laptop, turn it on again pressing F12, -with the USB plugged to the laptop- and when I press HDD recovery, the system just takes me to Windows as usual, without reinstalling. Any thoughts on how to reinstall?
    Solved!

    Hi,
Are you getting a boot option menu when you press f12?  Have you tried going into BIOS to check your boot order?  Usually f2 or DEL will get you to BIOS, or at the bottom of the boot option menu (which I assume is f12).  Once you are in BIOS, check that your USB drive is above the others in the boot order and save your configuration and reboot.  If you are still having a problem, you might check to see how many USB devices you have plugged in, or chained, and remove the ones that are not necessary because they could interfere with booting to your USB drive.  If you are using a USB hub, you might try putting the usb key into a different slot to give it priority over the other USB devices on boot up.  The highest priority slot on a USB hub might be the one closest to the USB cable that plugs in to your laptop's USB port.

  • Satellite L745D-S4214 Does not boot; HDD recovery partition not working

I tried to apply the recent windows 7 updates and my laptop no longer boots.  I tried to press F12 and select the HDD Recovery partition, but it does not boot regardless.  There is a message that it does not communicate to a specific device.  I believe the address called out was 0xc0000e9, but I am going by memory.  I never created a recovery CD because I thought I was covered by the HDD partitions.  This was purchased on 10/26/2012, so it should still be under warranty.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hi I'm going to assume that your recovery works like mine and that the recovery partition is still good and not corrupted.
Shut down your PC. Press F12 and select HDD recovery. Click enter. This should start the recovery from the hidden recovery partition.
PS I would advise you to make the recovery discs or USB recovery Try this first.
    Perform a power cycle
Even when your laptop is off and unplugged, residual power can still be held in some components. While this is normal, clearing it can help with boot problems. Perform these steps to complete what’s called a power cycle.
Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.
Remove the battery (if the model has a removable battery).
Unplug all wires or peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories.
Hold down the power button for thirty seconds.
    Reattach the battery.
Connect the AC adaptor to the power socket that was confirmed to be working in the first step.
Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to your computer.
    Try starting the computer.
If your laptop starts normally now, you're done!

  • X1 Carbon USB recovery media unbootable

    Hi guys.
I just attempted to create a set of recovery media for a new X1 Carbon. Basically I took a 32GB USB flash drive and had the recovery media creation tool write both the boot files and the rest of the data files to it.
Since the software wasn't exactly clear about whether the former would get overwritten by the latter and it would be rather lame to have to use a second flash drive when I have one that can hold all the needed files, I decided to give it a try.
The result wouldn't boot, however, even though it contains some files that look like they might be boot-related. I then wanted to retry the process with two separate flash drives only to be told that I am allowed to create just one set of recovery disks. (Absolutely brilliant engineering here.)
So, am I now left with a non-bootable flash drive and no way to create recovery media?
Also, while we're at it... when the software says the recovery media are only usable on the machine they're created on, does this actually mean they refuse to run on any other machine of the same type and I really have to create a separate set of recovery media for each individual laptop? (Because we have a number of them here.)
Up to now I assumed this was more like "they will technically work, but you're not allowed to use them on a machine you don't have a matching Windows license for". But since Lenovo apparently decided to be maximally annoying with their current generation of machines...
    Would appreciate any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Here's something I've wanted to try for a while, but don't have a recovery image to test with.  Probably a total waste of your time.
Prepare another flash drive per the link I posted above.  Copy the contents of the non-booting drive to the newly prepared drive.  Make sure all files and folders are visible first.
    Give it a try...
I've never quite figured out the dretails of Windows booting mechanism, but the above works for me with Win install and repair media.  The drive prep must be creating a bootable MBR.
[edit] Is your X1 BIOS set to UEFI only mode by any chance?

  • Satellite P840/016 does not boot from CD or DVD

Using F2 enabled the BIOS to boot from optical drive, saved and re-started. Finds the bootable CD created from the same laptop using the repair disc from Windows 7 recovery but does not boot.
Tried Ubuntu DVD which works as boot disk on all other laptops - still does not boot.
Changed the setting in BIOS to non-secure - same problem.

Thanks - tried this pressing F12. Message appears on the screen to press any key to boot from DVD. Key pressed, the DVD is read and then delay with blank screen. The laptop goes back to start screen and than goes to boot from the HDD. Also tried making USB as bootable. Pressed F12 and selected USB as boot device. Reads the USB and after a period of time boots from HDD.
Checked DVD driver - it is the latest.
Operating system is Windows 8 pro.
RAM is 8GB, processor is I7 and HDD is 1 TB. Laptop is only 3 weeks old

  • Satellite M30-107 does not boot correctly after Recovery disk usage

    Hi
I've recently got hold of a second hand toshiba Satellite M30-107 laptop, and decided to freshen it up.
I used the toshiba recovery disk, but after doing so the laptop no longer loads windows.
When turned on it shows the Toshiba start up disk for about a second then goes to a blank screen and freezes.
When turned off and on again a screen comes up reporting an error in shutting down and gives the options to start in safe mode etc. but choosing any of the options causes the machine to freeze.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    jt

    Hi
Sounds a little bit like the notebook does not boot due to the Windows software issue
Did you recover the M30 with the original Toshiba recovery CD which was supplied with this M30 unit?
Maybe Im wrong but for me it looks like a wrong recovery CD was used and an image with non compatible drivers was installed
You could try to install the OS from original Microsoft Win XP CD and could check if it would be possible to get the notebook ruining using clean OS.
In such case we ( you and me ;) ) could find out if this issue could be related to the software or hardware.

With the code purple error on the screen, press shift+f10 (the shift key and the F10  key (at the top of the keyboard) at the same time) to open a little screen called a  command prompt. (So, you get a little black screen with white text that says something  about your Windows verison first and a little ways down you'll see "C:\>".   It's all  ready for you to start typing.)
Type the following line, just as you see it here...
    notepad C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd
so it will look like this
    C:\>notepad C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd
    Press Enter.
You will see the text for the file listed in a window using a simple text editor.
Go to the beginning of the text. Press enter to make a space. Type this...
    goto cleanup
So, whatever comes after, the first line looks like this...
    goto cleanup
Save the file and exit notepad and restart your PC. You are good to go.

  • 7.1.2 update failed. Now my iPhone 5 is in recovery mode and hard resetting does not work for me. iTunes also will not detect my phone now

I did my 7.1.2 update via iTunes. Half way through it stopped working saying it does not detect my phone. Now my iPhone 5 is in recovery mode and hard resetting does not work for me. iTunes also will not detect my phone now

Thank you SO very much for posting this. I had the exact issue with my iPad Mini after the same upgrade. Hard reset failed, computer would not recognize iPad. I had read all the other instructions and nothing worked.... YOUR SOLUTION WORKED FOR ME - with a slight variation.
I followed your lead and connected my iPad Mini to another computer, fired up iTunes, it saw the iPad Mini in Restore Mode and allowed me to go into Restore (yes, it wiped all of the data but I have a back up on the other computer that would not see it after the failed update). It installed the latest iOS 7.1.2 as well. I then disconnected it from that computer, reconnected it to the computer that would not see it prior and it then saw it as a new iPad and allowed me to Restore my backup and now it's all good!
I detailed my steps only because you downloaded the previous version - 7.1.1 whereas I downloaded the latest version (7.1.2) and then restored my back up.
