USB Redirection Performance

I have SRSS 4.2 w/ SRWC 2.2 (AKA SRSS5) connecting to an XP virtual machine using the drivers included with the SRWC package. The DTU is a Sunray 2 with the firmware provided via the SRSS 4.2 install. The DTU connects to the VM via a vmware view broker.
I have USB redirection up and working just fine with one exception: Performance is horrid. It takes 15+ minutes to copy a 300M file from a USB key to the VM. This works out to about 350KB/s or 4% of the 100Mbps bandwidth
When using our Wyse thin clients, that same file from the same usb key to the same VM will copy the file at a more reasonable 9MB/s. so that same file gets copied over in a little over 30 seconds.
Is there something we should be doing (i.e., hacking apart the vmware broker agent to not install its usb redirectors) in order to get better performance or is this as good as it gets with the sunray?

V10L's for the wyse devices which have USB 2.0 ports on them.
But thanks for the reminder that the SR 2 only has USB 1.1 ports. That may be the issue (in which case the unit is running at 50% of the theoretical performance. )
I have some 2FS's laying around which in theory have USB 2.0 ports on them and will retest on those.

  • Windows 7 (Ent) Sp1 on server 2012 R2 HyperV, RFX USB redirection not working

    Hello,
I currently have  windows server 2012 R2 with HyperV installed. I have built two virtual machines. A windows 8.1 and Windows 7 sp1. Both are enterprise editions
For RemoteFX the hypervisor is using a Zotec GTX 760 GPU. It recognizes it and uses it to apply remoteFX adapter on my Windows 7 Sp1 VM.
As you are aware I do not need to use a GPU to enable RFX on my Windows 8.1 it can do this without the need of a GPU.
Using an RDP client( v8.1)  I can connect to my Windows 8.1 VM with a USB headset, memory Key or a printer and they all enumerate on the Virtual machine. The driver for each device installs
and I can use the device without any issues.
However this issue lies with the Windows 7 SP1 VM. I can connect to it via RDP( Same client)  but I cannot redirect any devices to it. I have installed the latest integration services available on the VM. I have ran all updates available.
Because I have ran all updates the rdp version on the VM is running v8.1.
Previous to installing the updates USBr still was not working
I have enabled the following group polices under remote desktop services on the Windows 7 SP1 VM :
    RDP 8.0 -- Enabled
    Configure RFX -- Enabled
Is there a known issue with USB redirection not working on a Windows 7sp1 virtual machine hosted on server 2012 Hypervisor ??
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
According to the log above, I found that we run the script on both Server6 and Server7. Errors as below:
Server6: Conversion is not supported in restricted language mode or a Data section.
Server7: Couldn't figure out valid servers from the specified destination scope. Check your parameters and try again.
Since we can only run the RollAlternateserviceAccountPassword.ps1 Script on CAS server, the script not works well if Server6 is MBX server.
For Server7, based on the error message, it seems you still have no right to run the script/cmdlet.

  • Remote Desktop Session Host USB Redirection with Windows 8.1

    Hello all,
I've currently setup this environment (both OS/Client are fully up to date as of today). I am using one server as the Gateway, Web Access, Connection Broker and RD Session Host with one collection.
I am trying to get USB redirection setup to work properly. Some devices work (pen drives/iPhone etc), but other devices (we have a smart card reader we are testing that works natively on my Windows 8 machine) that doesn't appear.
I see conflicting information wherever I go on the internet on how to get this working. Some places suggest modifying the registry on the client machine, other places suggest you need to add a customrdpproperty to the collection.
What is the proper way to get this working on 2012 R2 with Windows 8.1?

    Hi Gavin,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For redirecting USB on server 2012 R2 is to set the custom property for a session collection by using following command.
    Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName YourCollectionName –CustomRdpProperty "usbdevicestoredirect:s:{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f }"
where {6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f} is the System-Defined Device Setup Class GUID.

  • Server 2012 - Windows 8 RemoteFX USB Redirection not working

I have setup a test envrionment with Server 2012.  RDS has been installed.  Hyper-V, RDCB, RDWeb, and RDVH are all on the same box.  I have a personal unmanaged Remote Desktop Virtual pool with one test virtual running Windows 8.  I have
enabled RemoteFx USBdirection in Group Policy on every machine involved and forced GP update.
I can see my devices in the Remote Desktop Connection details on the client (i.e. it shows up under Local Resources/Local devices and resources/More/Other supported RemoteFX USB devices.  Or, if you prefer, I have added  "usbdevicestoredirect:s:*"
to the .rdp file that the Web Access spits out then I log in to web page and attempt to connect to my published virtual machine.
The problem is that the devices do not show up anywhere in the virtual machine's device manager once logged in.  Furthermore, there is no Universal Serial Bus node in device manager at all.  I do not have a RemoteFX compatible GPU available for
hyper-v or the virtual machine, but it is my understanding with Server 2012 and Windows 8 this is not necessary.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I thought I saw a [email protected] or similar email on one of the blog comments, but I can seem to find the post again, I have scoured the internet relating to usb redirection and remotefx and it is a disorganized mess.
    Thanks.
    Wayne

The first device I am focusing on is a desktop scanner, an Epson GT-S50.  This device shows up in the client's Remote Desktop Connection details as a "RemoteFx Other supported RemoteFX USB Devices".
Although, and perhaps I'm a total fool, but, I have not installed Epson's specific drivers for this scanner on either the client, nor the VM.  My client's Device Manager currently shows the scanner under "Other Devices" as "Epson Scanner".  The
Device Status says that "The drivers for this device are not installed".  My expectation was that this was still enough to redirect the same object (and its condition) to the VM.  At that point, I expected the VM to see and respond
(in its own Device Manager) the same way, at which point I would then install the Epson-specific driver package on the VM (i.e. without ever having to install the Epson package on the client).
The second device I wanted to test was a Ezurio BRBLU03 Bluetooth Adpater.  This device's drivers have been installed on the client and works flawlessly, locally.  However, this device is not showing up at all under "RemoteFx Other supported
RemoteFX USB Devices", even after "usbdevicestoredirect:s:*" was specified.  I suppose this is a separate issue, and I was planning on troubleshooting this next.  For now I just wanted to see a proof of concept that a device that RD can see can in
    fact be redirected.
I guess I have based my expectations on the experience we had with a third-party USB redirection tool that we tested prior to engaging in testing RDS.
My client is running Windows 8 Enterprise, and the VM (vhdx) is running the same.  When you refer to the RDC 8 update, isn't that already included in this OS?  In other words, is that only a concern if I were using Windows 7?
    Thanks for your help.

  • USB Redirection in un-brokered SR VDI not working

I have installed Sun Ray Server 4.2 and SRWC 2.2 on a Solaris 10 5/09 server.
I am using my own kiosk script to connect to a Windows XP SP3 virtual machine. I have installed the srs-winstaller.exe on the XP VM with no issues.
I am having trouble getting USB redirection to do anything. In Windows, the "Sun Ray USB Redirector 1.1" icon is in the System Tray. Device Manager shows utSrSession with no errors. The Windows Event Viewer is showing Application errors for utUsbRedirector (newest first):
    Warning: utUsbRedirector::WndProc (WM_WTSSESSION_CHANGE WTS_REMOTE_CONNECT g_start_threads failed)

I turned up the uttscpd logging
    utku7 4767 14177 0 10:20:34 ? 0:00 /opt/SUNWuttsc/lib/uttscpd -D 20
but the log files in /var/opt/SUNWut/log/uttscpd* are always empty.
Am I correct that mounted USB device should show up in:
    /tmp/SUNWut/units/IEEE802.00144f3baa6b/devices/usb@1/hub@1
I have tried plugging in a scanner, a DVD burner, and an iPhone. Nothing ever shows up in that directory and Windows never shows any indication that something has been attached. The only thing I can get to show up in that directory is my USB flash drive, which uttsc maps in the old way using RDP device redirection. At least that means to me that the USB port works on the Sun Ray 2. It looks like I've missed something, can anyone direct me? Thanks.

Yup, that's exactly the kind of "I've missed something" I was looking for. Didn't know about that parameter. Thanks patrickb!
So I removed the -r disk parameter and added -r usb instead. That's what I needed, devices are now recognized by Windows.
Can you use -r usb and -r disk together or is that a bad thing when you insert a flash drive? Which would take priority?
My experience with just "-r usb:on" has been poor:
My genuine "Sun Partner Advantage" flash drive and my U3 Cruzer Micro flash drive both load drivers but don't show up in Explorer. When I try to open My Computer it hangs until I remove the flash drive.
A DVD burner worked (as a reader) for a couple minutes but then froze up.
My Windows Mobile 2003 SE handheld loads drivers but is not recognized by ActiveSync.
My iPhone failed as expected with a driver problem in Device Manager.
But...my NeatReceipts Scanalizer did work! It's a little 600 dpi color document feed scanner. I was able to do a full page color scan which was very nice.
I found that nothing worked at all the first time it was plugged in. It would be discovered by XP and drivers would be found but the device wouldn't show up at all. If I removed it and then re-attached it, I had much better results in terms of drivers loading. Of course most things still didn't work, but they came close.
Another positive was that no matter how locked up Explorer got, removing the device was always clean and I got full control of Explorer back.

  • Deploying USB Enhanced Performance [Wired] Keyboard settings

Hi. Is there any way to deploy the settings of the USB Enhanced Performance Keyboard settings so that all computers with the keyboard get the default settigs? Got 500+ computers to deploy.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
there is no easy solution however this might be worth trying sincle I see it as feasible and maybe you can even use Migration Assistant if you do not have any other tool (I'm not expert on Migration Assistant).
    1. Manually export the registry settings from the current user.
    2. Change “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”, in the exported registry file.
    3. Remove any reference to “\users\username”.
    4. Then, import the you modified registry file to another machine.
    SEE ATTACHAED FILE PLS.
Let me know if this is sufficient and it helps.

  • USB redirection with Canon scanner -- driver must be reinstalled

I am trying to get a Canon DR-M140 scanner to work through Remote Desktop USB Redirection.
When connecting the scanner through USB Redirection to a Windows Server 2012 R2 remote desktop session, the scanner device appears in the remote session's device list, but the TWAIN driver does not load. The scanner appears as an "unknown" device
and the properties dilalog shows "Device status: Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)" However, reinstalling the drivers has no effect.
    Repro steps:
    - Windows Server 2012 R2 server
    - Windows 8.1 Pro client
    - M140DRIT_V12SP1 driver package installed on both server and client
    - RemoteFX USB Redirection group policy enabled on client
    - CANON DR-M140 checked in mstsc devices tab
    - Connect to server
    - Open Devices and Printers
    - CANON DR-M140 appears in Unspecified section
    - Double-clicking for properties and clicking Hardware tab shows "Device status: Reinstall the drivers for that device. (Code 18)"
Does anyone have specific or general advice on getting this to work?
    Thanks,
    Walter
    Walter Smith

First, I would like to confirm the following questions:
    1. Is there an exclamation mark or question mark in Device Manager after plugging the scanner? If so, please let me know.
    2. Which software is used on the machine to scan file, the built-in application or Canon software? When trying to use the application to scan, is there any error information?
At this stage, please download the Canon software and install it for a test.
    Canon Scanner software
Then, please use the Canon application to scan file again.
If there is any error message, please upload it for research. Meanwhile, please access the following folder and upload the setupapi.dev.log file.

  • USB redirect over port 443 only

I've done a little research on this issue, according to VMware (At least what I've read) there are 2 ports on our firewall which need to be opened to allow usb redirect, is there anyway to do this over 443 ONLY?
    cheers,
    -Steve

If you use PCoIP you need at least 3 ports open, 443/TCP, 4172/TCP, 4172/UDP.
That will also allow for USB redirection that is tunneled through 443 to the security server.
If you are using RDP then I think that only 443 is needed.

  • RemoteFX USB redirection control per user

    Hi All,
Just got a bunch of new thin clients in. Acer N2110G with DeTOS 7.2.2, connecting to a session based 2012 RDP server.
I have a requirement that normal users not be able to write to USB drives. Does anybody know how I would go about controlling this with these thin clients?
With a traditional workstation, we were just using the Deny removable write GPO, and only one group of users was allowed to write. With these thin clients, the redirected USB drive shows up as a folder inside a mapped drive, and everyone can write to it.
I tried using the enable/disable RemoteFX USB redirection, but that seems to be for the client computers, and is a computer setting, not user.
Does anyone have any ideas? Do I need to switch to WES to get this type of functionality?
Please let me know if I can provide further info...
    Thanks everyone!

    Hi,
What I can thoght is to add the users into a group with Deny write access Enabled via Group Policy.
    Best regards,
    Susie

Could you say me if I have missed something or if I have other problem.
I have tried to ask to the AUR gnome-boxes maintener, but it seems he doesn't have solution .
    Thank you.
