USB removable device is not accesable

Hi,
we have one win 7 machine on which USB pendrive is not accesable. When we insert the pen drive it gets detected and is dispayed on my computer as a drive H:\ . But when i double click on it it shows access denied.
We have NOT blocked USB devices From GPO or any AV.
Permission to to USBSTOR inf/pnf and Reg values all troubleshooting are done. I have aslso uninsttaled the drivers and resatrted machine this many time. I have also tried with Administrator login.
1. Please let me know what more needs to be done?
2. How to give permission to this H:\ USB drive. Because in security policy it shows To Dont Have permission and Blanked. Even i can not take ownership.

Hi,
So here we could not change the ownership of the USB drive? In addition to the USBSTOR value, please also take a look at this registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\RemovableStorageDevices
More details, please click here:
How to Deny or Allow Access to All Removable Drives in Vista and Windows 7
If issue insists, then please take a try to share this drive, follow this steps:
1. Right click the drive.
2. Select Properties.
3. Press the Sharing Tab.
4. Select Advanced Sharing.
5. Put a check on "share this folder".
6. Press Permissions now that it is clickable because you put a check on share this folder box.
7. Under "Group or Usernames" there should be a default option of everyone. If it does not  show this for you, press add and type Everyone.
8. Check all 3 boxes under Allow [full control, change read].
Hope this may help
Best regards

  • Usb 3 Device is not responding

I'm given to understand USB 3 devices will work in a USB 2 port, however it is strangley difficult to find information about this online, and my USB 3 128gb device does not even register whatsoever in the USB 2 port on my Asus Notebook K52F/K62F. The ports do work for other devices. Was the information I was told untrue, or is there another step I need to undergo? Perhaps a driver installation?

What do you mean "the measurement failed"
Can you please provide more details.  Like an error code.

  • Usb midi devices do not appear on os10.4.10

    i've seen some similar complaints about firewire audio devices, and usb harddrive on this forum;
i've got a a few usb midi devices (m-audio oxygen8 and edirol ua-25) that do not show up anywhere on my computer (black macbook, os 10.4.10); i've checked the audio midi setup area, and all of the various software preference areas (garageband, absynth, reaktor, etc).
the workarounds for the firewire audio don't look like the right thing to do. i've installed the v1.1 audio update. with no change in problem.
the edirol usb device is an audio and midi device; the audio works fine (before i did the 1.1 update, crossing fingers that it still works) but the midi does not appear to exist on my system.
i've updated the drivers from the respective hardware vendors, no luck. looked for similar issues in all the knowledgebases i could find. every answer tells me to do what i did the first time. so i do it again and it still doesn;t work.
has anyone else had this issue? or has anyone else had a positive experience with usb midi devices?
i've recently switched from pc to mac,
so i've some out of depth feeling on the details of mac fer sure.
    thanks,

Oh my god. All I had to do was reboot. Marking as closed.

  • USB Audio Device sometimes not detected. udev, maybe?

I am using an external usb audio device which I usually keep plugged into my machine.  I am finding that this device is sometimes not being detected when I boot the computer.
When this happens, issuing the following command:
    $ aplay -L
does not list this particular device.  Plugging and unplugging the device does not seem to help.
What does seem to resolve the problem is unloading and then reloading the snd_sub_audio kernel module.  This is done by issuing the following commands:
    # rmmod snd_usb_audio
    # modprobe snd_usb_audio
Could anyone give some insight as to why the usb audio device isn't being detected and why this only happen occasionally?  Could this be a udev issue?  The device in question is an M-Audio Fast Track Pro.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Pls help! USB Storage Devices does not work for K7N2 Delta-L

    hi all,
I am pulling my hair out trying to resolve this issue.
Everytime i plug in a USB Storage Device/Thumb Drive(eg Creative NOMAD), my system gives an error saying task cannot be performed due to a I/O device error.
Yet, the USB ports work well with other USB devices like mouse, keyboard, USB sound cards, printers and so forth??!!
I am using WinXP SP1 and have installed the patch that comes on the CD driver. Pls help me out if you know the answer. ...
    Thanks!
    Les

I'm pretty much going to confirm the same going with compatibility issues here...there is still alot of hardware out there on the market that is incompatible with many other types of hardware...
We've reached the day when alot of us like to think that ALL manufacturer devices should work flawlessly with everyone else's devices on the market. This just isn't the case and I don't ever see this being the case. Ideally it would be nice but the fact is is that no company can "cover all the bases" in this respect. There are literally hundreds of thousands of hardware mfg's out there now and this cannot be a reality unless the PC world goes Apple. Same standards for all period. No fluctuation or ability to expand on new ideas without going to the "Standard Setting Company" directly for full testing capability.
Regardless of that fact, I'm kinda surprised that you can't get this device to work on your rig. Have you tried a fresh install of XP? Have you tried using a PCI USB device to see if the MB ports are bad? Could be that the MB has a problem that doesn't show until you use that device...many things to try here to troubleshoot your problem.

  • Remove device does not work

Although I can remove it, when iSync starts again the device is still shown. In this case it is Pocket PC, which was a program to connect a Pocket PC to the Mac. I no longer need this.
I also tried to add a Nokia E90. I d/loaded the plug-in, did a search in bluetooth, and it found the E90 and installed it as a device. However when I try to connect iSync quits.
The fact I cannot remove the previous device leads me to think that the problem is with iSync.
    Any ideas? TIA

Your issues don't involve a problem with iSync.
These instructions no longer appear to be available at Information Appliance Associates support site, but you can do this to remove PocketMac completely from iSync:
Manually remove PocketMac plugins from iSync in Mac OS X 10.4 or later by…
    • navigating to the iSync application in your Applications folder
    • right-clicking or control-clicking on iSync, then choosing Show Package Contents
    • opening the Contents folder
    • opening the Plugins folder
    • locating the Plugin named PM, Entourage or PocketMac that you want to delete, being sure to leave the other conduit.syncdevice folders alone
    • dragging the folder or folders you want to remove to the Trash, and emptying it
Why their uninstall option does not perform these steps is beyond me…
Start with that fix, and then you can address the Nokia 90 issue.

If you have the retina display iPad then it's an iPad 3 (or 3rd gen iPad, not an iPad 2 3rd gen) - the iPad 2 was the previous model.
As far as I know sharing the wifi connection with another device or computer isn't possible. If your computer doesn't have built-in wifi then you should be able to get a USB wireless adapter for it that will plug into one of its USB ports, which should allow it to connect to your wifi network - I use one on an old desktop computer.

  • [SOLVED] Removable devices do not show up anymore in Nautilus' sidebar

    Hello all,
I don't know when it started occuring, but Nautilus has stopped automountinh automatically showing my removable media in the sidebar. I can manually mount my media with udisksctl perfectly fine, so the error is somewhere in Nautilus and not in permissions.
I think I have all the relevant packages installed:
    local/udisks2 2.0.0-1
    local/polkit 0.107-4
    local/polkit-gnome 0.105-1
    local/gvfs 1.14.2-1
    local/nautilus 3.6.3-1
In dconf-editor, both org.gnome.desktop.media-handling.automount and org.gnome.desktop.media-handling.automount-open are set to true.
Can you help me figure this out? It worked before but last time I mounted removeable media is a couple of weeks ago.
    Thanks in advance!

I just built Nautilus-git, but it's not showing anything either. I did get alot of messages about deprecated schemas though, that might be related:

  • [SOLVED] USB storage devices do not appear as /dev/ block devices

Hello. I'm experiencing the exact same problem described in this thread and this thread
I'm running linux-ck-ivybridge. Both of these threads are marked solved but I don't get their solutions. Could someone help me understand what all this means? I think most of my confusion stems from the fact that most of these posts were made before the move to systemd, since they're referencing /etc config files that don't exist on my system anymore.
    Thanks

  • Usb 3 device "partially" recognized by windows 7 pro

I have an usb 3 device which was perfectly working with my previous Computer (Windows 7 Pro usb 2 facilities).
Now I have a new computer (Windows 7 Pro usb 3 facilities) but my usb 3 device is not recognized thru the usb 3. If I plug it into an usb 2 (still available) it works, but the system tells me that it would be better to use an usb 3 port since it would be
faster... but it doesn't recognized it!
Could it be due because that device was previously formatted thru an usb 2 port?
Could somebody help me? (PS I tried roughly all steps suggested on the previous discussions)
    Thanks, any case

    Hi,
Have you installed the related driver for USB 3.0? In my view, it should be related to your driver for USB 3.0. You can get this driver from manufacturer website.

if he is having this issue in Gnome-Shell specifically, then it's not the same issue. *Gnome-Shell uses it's own internal version of polkit's agent* ~ as discussed in that thread.. If he is using gnome-fallback (with openbox?), then that is where the polkit-authentification-agent-1 issue applies.

  • Computer thinks i pod is  a data usb storage device

Had to change the i pod into a data retrival. Done this enable disk use. Now i tunes wont find the i pod atall updating etc the module is there but the computer thinks its a usb storage device. I pod under edit prefrences is saying that no i pod conneced. Done a restore on i pod and used the updater. Uninstalled i tunes and installed it again and again. Orange lights and green lights are flashing on my i pod its locked me out of it. Why if ive restored it to factory settings wont it let me use it for music and not data retrival storage. Ive done a add hardware wizard it simply says usb storage device and not i pod which is what it has to be to get music. Ive looked for options on i tunes for the i pod and the icons gone so i cannot untick enable disk use. All usb hubs are working i am at a total loss at what to do please someone help me out thanks mr d roberts

  • Usb audio device support in Mavericks

It seems everywhere I look USB audio devices do not work (or do not work well at all) with Mavericks.  With yet another OS X update coming I'm nervous that developers will be even further behind Apple's USB audio chaos.  Does anyone know what may be on the horizon?   I'll have to downgrade if this there's no remedy.  I'm amazed there's so little support in Mavericks for USB audio - especially since all new Macs have no distinct mic input.
