USB scanning via airport express?

Are scanners supported via the USB port on an Airport Express?

No.
Only printing is supported by the USB port on the AirPort Express (AX).

  • USB printer on Airport Express via Bonjour: print queue no longer works

This is a variation of similar postings on this forum, but hopefully provides more information to allow others to pinpoint the problem.
Have been using Intel iMac 10.4.8 now upgraded to 10.4.10. Two printers attached: 1 via USB and a 2nd via USB/Bonjour on Airport Express. Both working flawlessly. 2 days ago, an ADSL Internet outage occurred. When this was reestablished an hour or so later, everything was back to normal, EXCEPT that the USB/Bonjour/Airport printer no longer works. When jobs are sent to it, the printer queue stops and a red "!" appears in the dock on the queue. Restarting the queue just brings back the red "!" again.
Have done all the usual things:
    1. Checked cables, restarted iMac, restarted printer, reset Airport.
    2. Have confirmed the printer works find if moved to a direct USB port. So the problem is not the printer.
    3. Have upgraded the Airport firmware to 6.3. Works just fine as a network access point. So the problem is not the Airport itself.
    4. Have deleted, added the printer, renamed the printer - none of these things helped (this was suggested by some postings on the forum)
    5. Have tried every combination of which item is powered up first (this was suggested by some postings on this forum)
Have confirmed (by checking CUPS Error Log, as well as by Internet Connection Diagnostics) that the problem is that the iMac can no longer connect to the printer when printing on the local host if it is connected via USB/Bonjour/Airport. However, it can find the printer for adding a printer during setup. So Bonjour is working, but the printing is not.
There are lots of similar postings of people having problems with printers previously working, but then stopping working on an Airport Expresss/Extreme. I hope the above scenario, which is a very simple network topology, and the fact that the iMac and printer and Airport all work correctly on their own, is of help. It does look as if the problem is in the Airport Extreme, and was triggered by the WAN outage, and not fixed by printer reinstallation or firmware upgrade.
Looking forward to someone with a clever suggestion...

What did you use to discover the printers on both Mac and PC. Did you use Bonjour for both?

  • Sharing a 3G usb modem on the iMac via Airport Express

    Hi,
I would like to be able to share my 3G/HSDPA USB Modem that is currently connected to my iMac over the Airport Express wireless network at home. The objective is to let every computer (PC and Mac) connected to the wireless network (Airport Express) to be able to access the internet via the iMac 3G/HSDPA connection.
I could have shared the 3G connection directly via the Internet Sharing, but this would require the computers to switch wireless network.
Can anybody describe on how to achieve this?
    Regards,
    Hindra

Finally, after several tries with the guidance of Duane's posts on how to set it up, I got this to work.
Objective: To be able to share a 3G wireless connection connected to an iMac using 3G USB Modem with the rest of the network connected via wireless Airport Express.
{Internet} <---> 3G USB Modem <---> iMac <---> Airport Express <---> Other computers (PC and Mac)
    1. Set the Airport Express to Join a Wirelss Network, and name the network to be the same name as the name of the network set in the Internet Sharing (on the iMac)
    2. Set the Internet Sharing on the iMac, and share the 3G USB Modem network name to the Airport network and name the Airport network to be the same as No. 1
    3. That's it....
Big Thanks to Duane for your help.
    Regards,

  • Success Scanning over Airport Express

For those who have or who are about to purchase All-in-One printer/scanner/fax devices and are looking to network them via airport...save yourself a bit of a headache and read on. As you know, a typical all-in one will print via USB thru an Airport Express Base station, but will do little else. The advanced features and even scanning are not supported. But if you consider the models that have built in ethernet and wireless capability, such as the HP6310, you hook them up thru the ethernet port, not the USB, and Bingo!..all the features are enabled. So if you spend a bit more time looking for those models that do have built-in wireless capability you will save yourself a lot of time and torture trying to get it to work via USB. It just won't.

Sorry, but the USB port on the AirPort routers will only support the print function.
Connect the All-in-One device to your network by using wireless or Ethernet for full functionality if your printer supports these types of connections.

  • Unable to print to my Oki C3200 via Airport Express

    Hi
I wish to print wirelessly via Airport Express using my Oki C3200 printer. I have followed all the recommended install procedures.
I am using a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit PC, have configured the printer with Bonjour for Windows, and still cannot print.
The printer works fine if connected by USB direct to the PC.
    Any help appreciated.

Yes, my iMac is hooked to my Airport Extreme through it's ethernet port.
    No, I don't have AIM.

  • Unable to scan via Airport from Mac to Officejet Pro L7680

I am running )S 10.7.5 on a MacBook.  Set up Airport for wireless printing.  Can't scan via Airport and can't get it to give me set up options.  removed/reinstalled software-drivers.  any suggestions?  I don't want to have to plug in the device everytime I want to scan. requires changing config.  etc, pain in the neck.

    Hi castagmc,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when attempting to get the new Yosemite driver installed for the printer.
I do have some suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please remove the usb cable from the printer and from the Mac and leave it disconnected until further notice.
I have a link that I am going to give you that gives detailed instruction for Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once the uninstall is complete, please restart the Mac to have the changes take affect.
When the Mac is back up and running, disable any anti virus protection you may running. We do not want anything getting in the way when we reinstall.
The next step is to download and install the HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
The installation will prompt you as to when to connect the usb cable so please do not connect it before hand.
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Epson Aculaser CX11NF printing via Airport Express

Well today has been an interesting day...
Connected printer to airport express usb port - had problems printing via this in the past but since I'd moved the printer so I could plug it into the usb port on a computer and then share it that way I thought I'd give it another go.
Macbook 10.5.2 prints perfectly first time
Powerbook 10.4.11 can see it and connect but won't print
Toshiba XP laptop) can't see it
Check out the net, try out the info I find and hey presto! Toshiba XP laptop sees and prints perfectly
Share printer via Markbook and Markintosh and Powerbook prints fine but still won't print directly via airport express.
Feels wrong that an xp book can print via an apple airport express easier than an apple laptop...
    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hi,
Thanks for all your replies. I tried repairs pewrmissions in disk utility again and got slightly excited when printer utility automatically selected a generic post script driver but my printer just printed jibberish.
I've just run repair permission in pinter setup repair and this is my log:
    The file /System/Library/StartupItems/PrintingServices/PrintingServices is missing!
The file /private/etc/cups/classes.conf is missing. This file is deleted when using the Reset Printing System option.
The file /private/etc/cups/ppds.dat is missing. This file is deleted when using the Reset Printing System option.
The permissions for the file /usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertodymo are incorrect!
They are lrwxr-xr-x, but should be -rwxr-xr-x
    Repaired.
    Recreating symbolic links...
    Done.
    Verification complete.
2075 files examined. 1 problem was found and repaired. It is recommended that you verify the permissions again to make sure the values are correct.
3 missing files/directories found during the verification process. They may be responsible for certain printing problems. Printer Setup Repair cannot replace these items. Please refer to the log file for a list of the missing files/directories. You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues. Certain files and directories are deleted when using the Reset Printing System option. These files and directories, if required, will be recreated during normal printing.
Does it mean anything to anyone?

  • HP printer not printing via Airport Express

I have a HP DeskJet D2330 printer that I am trying to use via Airport Express. The issue is that while the printer is detected in the Airport Utility, and is detected in System Preferences as a Bonjour printer, I can't print to it. Documents sent to the printer appear in the queue and then disappear but no pages come out of the printer.

Hi - similar problem. Mine talked a little (test page would print about ~1 inch then grind to halt). No luck with escalated apple network tech. Problem (apple sez) is with HP. HP is quiet but has list of printers "likely" to work with Airport Extreme , but dated (indicates rendezvous with extreme vice bonjour). FYI, my printer works fine when USB direct to mac. Also Works fine from Mac or PC as ethernet-connected printer on home network (with Linksys/N Giga router) as network printer (also sets up as "bonjour" printer for what that is worth). Also problem exists with imac connected to Airport extreme via wireless or wired. So...problem seems to be pretty specific to talking via airport extreme USB. Havent tried to use ethernet yet, but need the slot for other equip.
    Anyone else having any luck?
Also anyone have proven good printer hookup? I need photo quality printer.

  • Need Big Help on my HP Laserjet P1005 via airport express

I've been using my HP Laserjet P1005 via airport express for about 3 months.
However, this printer won't act wirelessly anymore.
It does work fine with USB connected.
I tried to reset everything, and it's still not working.
I've read some posts on this forum and installed those three packages, but it seems not works for me.
By the way, the P1005 driver version is 1.0.6.
I really hope someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance.

Yes. I have install the lastest version of HP driver 1.0.6, with Mac OS 10.5.

But if you update to Show Leopard 10.6, You should use a prior driver HP 1.0.4, if not, the printer would not work. Here:

  • Connecting via AirPort Express: Performance Help Needed.

    Hello,
I'm grateful for ideas, instruction, pointers to threads I may have missed re: improving performance/determining the cause of poor performance when connecting via AirPort Express.
The deal: Up to 6 devices are connected to our AirPort Express. Only three of these are ever used simultaneously, though all remain "on," in either sleep or hybernate mode. Performance across the network is terribly uneven. Current data rate stats (a snapshot by way of the AirPort utility, in order of distance from the router):
    iMac: 130 Mb/s
    Printer: 54 Mb/s
    Macbook Pro: 144 Mb/s
    iPhone: currently "off"
PC (Connected via Belkin USB-type Wireless Adapter): 2 Mb/s
    iPad: 39 Mb/s
Note: the Macbook Pro is often located in a room farthest from the hub, some 120 feet away and with partial direct line of site. Still, its performance is unimpeded.
At first glance, logic would dictate the worst problem is on the PC and caused by the Belkin adapter. But I've swaped that out for different USB solutions. Performace is seldom improved.
    Wondering if:
    a) The PC problem is in the data transfer rate of the PC bus. (Foregive me if I'm using "bus" incorrectly here. I'm guessing you'll know what I mean.) Or is it the nature of the USB adapters?
    b) Please also note that the Printer, which sits close to the router, often has a drop in data rate, sometimes to the single digits.
Again, I'm grateful for ideas, instruction, or pointers. Also for wisdom on "extending" the network, perhaps by adding another AirPort device. I'm rather clueless about such stuff.
Thanks in advance-  Best for the weekend-

    Thanks,
I'm pretty sure the card is seated properly (it works most of the time after all). I couldn't get it to work when I installed it because it wasn't seated properly, I pushed it in as far as it could possibly go and it has worked since (except after extended periods of use). The Airport express is three feet from the eMac with only a couple of bits of wood between them. The connection does not go down at times which I can link with the use of any particular appliances (When the eMac stops working, the iBook is always fine, even in a similar position). It is the apparently time-dependent aspect that I can't figure out (I only notice it on those, fairly infrequent, occasions when I am online for a few hours at a time). The eMac discussion group is a good tip. Ta.

  • When playing my i-tunes library through my hi-fi via Airport Express, how can I get i-tunes to play a single album and then stop, without continuing on through my entire library. It's a problem that doesn't occur when I'm listening through my i-pod.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • Best way to extend wireless via airport express and time capsule

best way to extend wireless via airport express and time capsule
i live in a two storey house where i use my airport express to create a wireless network in the main floor, and time capsule to extend it in the upper floor, where my room is. i have like 16 mbps in the main floor, and 2-3 mbps in the upper floor after having speediest.
i used time capsule in the upper floor because i use wireless backup daily and don't want to put internet down while i im doin it and consequently my parent can have internet access in the main floor, am i right? or do i have make just the opposite in order to have a good internet speed?
secondly, while checking airport express wireless mode on airport utility, there is like 4 different type of radio mode(802 11n bg comp, 802 11n 2.4, 802 11n a comp, 802 11n 5ghz) which i have no idea what they mean
    what do you recommend?
we have like iphone4, iphone 3g, mbookpro, ipad, ipad 2, samsung tv and a sony vaio laptop in the wireless network
    thank you

What you have would appear to be working but I can comment how I would redefine your setup.  Note that both Airport Express and Time Capsule can function as wireless base stations so you do have wireless everywhere and at all times — using the Time Capsules for backups doesn’t mean your parents won’t have internet access regardless of the where the base stations are located.
You appear to have devices to connect to your network that use the 2.4 GHz band with 802.11g such as the iPhone 3G and perhaps the 5 GHz band with 802.11n such as likely the Macbook Pro if it’s a recent model.  The iPhone 4 can use 5 GHz and 802.11n.  Can’t comment on the Sony and Samsung but you can check their specs.
Now the Time Capsule (if it’s a recent version), can simultaneously supply 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band signals, but the Airport Express (if it’s recent) can only use one of those bands at one time.  Likely the lowest common denominator for your devices is going to be the 2.4 GHz band since the devices that are capable of using 5 GHZ also support 2.4 GHz.  If you don’t use 5 GHz, you won’t lose much in a two-storey home because likely it’s the 2.4 GHz band is better signal anyway because 5 GHz signals drop off quickly with several walls/floors to penetrate.
You also didn’t mention if the Airport Express is used to support a printer and/or AirPlay (using iTunes to play on remote speakers via the Airport Express connection) but that might also be a factor in the best location to place the Airport Express.  Although the printer could be switched between the Time Capsule and the Airport Express if needed, only the Airport Express will support your remote speakers.
Recommend you use the Time Capsule as the Base station.  When using Airport Utility to define the network, after you name your network, etc., select the Wireless tab, check the box “Allow this network to be extended” and set the Radio Mode to "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)”.
Using the Airport Utility, click on the Airport Express; after you define the device and network name, select the Wireless tab, define the Wireless Mode as “Extend a Wireless Network” and check the box “Allow wireless clients”.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can I play tracks from my iPod via Airport Express on only from my laptop?

I can play tracks from my laptop thorugh my Bose Lifestyle  Airport Express.  Is there a way to play tracks from my iPod Touch through my Bose system via Airport Express?   My Airport Express is set up as a client to my Sky Broadband wireless router.

I set up my laptop to my Bose Lifestyle System via Airport Express. It may be different for MAC but I just downloaded the Airport Express software and followed the on-screen set-up procedure, which includes entering your WI-FI key.  I do not have an iPad.  You need to select Airport Express in iTunes as your sound media. This is easily switched by an icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.  You will need to switch this back if you want to revert to using the laptop speakers.
