USB Security Dongle won't start
I cannot use the software which my printing lab has supplied me with. I am getting the following message when I try to open the installed software:
1002: Cannot locate the Dongle (hardware security lock)!! Please reconnect it properly.
I have tried extensively to find a solution through updates and other options my computer suggests but nothing is working. I am using Windows 7.
The red light does work on the dongle and the dongle does register on my computer.
Other devices do work in the same USB ports.
I have unplugged and taken out battery on computer for several minutes.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device.
I asked the printing lab for a replacement dongle so I am using a replacement one and both the original and the replacement have the same problem.
I have used this software and this dongle in a previous computer (HP) with the same operating system 2 years ago and it worked ok.
The dongle also does not work on my husbands computer (Asus) Windows 7.
The dongle does work on a friends Windows 7 computer so I know the dongle(s) are not he problem.
I am completely up to date on windows updates.
The manufacturer for the dongle and software say they do not have any additional drivers or updates for the dongle.
The lenovo solution centre tells me there is a problem with the device doesn't offer me any solutions.
In the device manager properties I get the follwing message: This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I have tried everything I can and have come up against a brick wall every time. I know the dongle works, The USB port does operate other devices although the devices seem a bit loose in it.
Any ideas that I havent already explored?
<The manufacturer for the dongle and software say they do not have any additional drivers or updates for the dongle.>
Does that mean
1. That the device doesn't require a driver at all
or
2. That they don't have anything other than what they think you have right now?
Code 10 usually presents when there is a driver problem or when Windows doesn't know what the device is--because the driver isn't identifying the device properly.
When you plug it in to your friend's PC, what does it look like in Device Manager? Look in the driver tab. What do you see?

Eclipse IDE won't start anymore after most recent security update
Hello everybody,
after today's security update the Eclipse IDE won't start anymore on my system, I just receive the following error message:
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Eclipse.
No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: /Applications/eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/jre/bin/
java
'java' in your current PATH
Java is installed and Eclipse ran smoothly until I upgraded. Other Java programs like Visual Paradigm still work without problems.
Does anybody have an idea what I can do about this? I have already tried repairing permissions, to no avail.
Best regards,
Björn
Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)I have narrowed down the problem even more:
Obviously system path variables are not set anymore on my system for UNIX processes that are started in background, whereas starting applications from terminal using the open command ('open Gimp.app' for instance) still works without any problems.
Any ideas where to change this behaviour? -
IBook G4 won't start up after installing promted itunes & security update
HELP.
My iBook G4 was prompted to update iTunes & some security update. I always do this when prompted, and restart as requested.
I installed the updates and restarted, but this time my iBook won't boot up. It makes the regular chime noise, goes to the gray screen, gets past the apple logo, then goes to a blue screen with the cursor in the upper left corner. The cursor moves just fine, the caps & num lock lights work, but it just never gets past the blue. If I leave it alone for a while, the cursor disappears, and I get the turning circle in the lower middle of the screen (the one that comes up during the gray screen). It just sits and sits on the blue. Hard drive isn't making any unusual sounds.
I tried starting it up from the Install Disc, which worked fine. I ran the disk utility and it said it didn't need any repairs.
Still won't start up.
I did the cmd + opt + p + r to get the 3 chimes... no change.
I tried the fsck thing, it didn't do anything.
HELP.
Am I a goner?
I saw that some other people had problems, but it seems like everybody's is just slightly different. My display looks totally normal, just won't get past the blue screen. My disk utility said that it didn't need any repairs? Looks like most other people at least saw some errors in there...I think Carolyn misunderstood the "3 chimes" comment. I think what you meant was that you held down the key combo until you heard the normal startup chime for the third time, not that the iBook gave you the 3 long beeps of a failed POST (power-on self test) which could indeed indicate a RAM problem.
It's more than likely not a RAM issue. These bad updates occasionally happen and the way to handle it is to do what you're doing now; backup what you can and then do an Archive and Install of the OS (although usually a couple of reboots, start in safe boot mode and reinstall the update is usually all that's needed). -
I've been trying to start the weblogic server, installed locally, but it won't start. In checking the server log I see this as the first Error reported:
java.sql.SQLException: [Security:090735]The DBMS connection was not usable
I changed all ref from localhost to my actual IP and that did not help.
Any ideas what the issue could be?I did not specify anything reg. a database. It was all created for me by the system, so in checking the config.xml I see something like this:
<jdbc-store>
<name>pfProliferationJMSStore</name>
<prefix-name>PF_PROLIFERATION_</prefix-name>
<data-source>portalDataSourceNeverXA</data-source>
<target>AdminServer</target>
</jdbc-store>
Since I have not created a database, nor created any explicit connections to one, what else could the issue be? -

Sgmed.Hi BDAqua,
After weeks of strugle I can use my MAC as normal, but everytime I shut it down, she cannot wake-up, I had to refer to your hints in order to start it up again. So right now I can use my MAC every day with "SLEEP" mode.
She just cannot RE-START or wake up after a SHUTDOWN.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated, here under I pasted the log file retrieved from Disk Utilities.
(I tried also to reset PMU, SMU and PRAM but nothing helped. Perhaps she is in need of a brand new PRAM battery???

Did latest security update, now emac won't start
Hello, please help. I'm only have one mac, so I'm desperate. I have an emac running os 10.4. I just performed the latest security update (and itunes and quicktime) now the mac won't start. I get to the apple logo and the spinning/loading icon and it stays there forever. I started from my original disc and did a disc utility check, and everything is allright with the hard drive. It was working perfectly until I installed the update and did the required restart!
Hi OneDayMatt, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I agree, but 3 points...
#1, When was the last time you saw truth in advertising?
#2, I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
#3, Being in the Right in an accident may not be all you can do to save your behind! -

I killed a MacBook Pro. Shutdown with flash in drive and now it won't start at all.
I may have killed my MacBook Pro OS X by accidentally restarting with a Flash Drive it it and now it won't start at all. Any ideas?
So it is powering on. You did not state that before. In that case:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Also see this if above doesn't work:
Install OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the original version of OS X that came on the machine. -
CVI program won't start anymore
Our measurement application worked well on several PC's (Win7 32Bit, WinXp 32Bit).
But on 2 newer PC's (Win7 32Bit) the application won't start anymore.
The attached Error with the code R6030 shows up.
We found a workaround for the problem: run the application as administrator.
But after we installed a USB-driver, this workaround doesn't help anymore,
and the Error shows up every time.
We installed the environment (cvi-rt, etc...) with an distributed setup.
So the Versions of the components are the same on every PC.
Any ideas?

X11 won't start (sets monitor to standby) with nVidia card
Hello everyone!
I'm having some trouble getting my computer to work properly. Yesterday it was working perfectly, but today it would't start again. After some troubleshooting I've determined that the problem lies with X11 and the graphics driver. The bootloader, grub, and arch itself, boots perfectly in runlevel 3, but the moment you run "startx" it would appear to be loading for a while and finally the screen goes to standby mode and there is no way out of that other than reseting the computer using the reset button. I've tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and installing nouveau drivers, but it still won't start X, this time arround, it would just hang up with a white screen.
I've also tried removing xorg.conf and also using nvidia utility to generate a new one, but neither seems to work.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't report any errors, it just gives different info from the configuration and the graphics card and just ends there.
I've tried booting with a debian live USB but it would't boot either (the computer would just restart). I've also tried a Kubuntu live USB, this time arround, it would start to boot but the graphics appeared to be corrupted (strange colored noise all over the screen) and eventually it would just hang up. Using nomodeset Kubuntu finally booted (using vesa I guess?), but the same didn't work in Arch (I'm guessing because I have the nvidia drivers installed instead of nouveau).
In conclussion, something appears to be wrong with the graphics card, I dont't know if it's a software problem or a hardware problem, as it started from one day to the other, without any upgrades in between, and it just doesn't work in any of the 3 distributions I've tested.
Any suggestions in what to do to troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance,
Santiago.-Xorg.0.log

Macbook Pro won't start after upgrade to 10.5.2
I just updated my Macbook Pro 1.Generation to 10.5.2 via software update. After a double boot, the apple logo and the loading wheel appeard as expected. After several minutes of loading, i had to login. After login, the leopard wallpaper appears and then nothing happens. I cannot do anything. It seems that the finder and the dock won't start up.
I have several apps installed, which may cause this issue. For example DockDoctor.
What can i do? Do i have to reinstall leopard and try again to install 10.5.2 via CombiPackage?
Thanks for helpStart by:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Then download the standalone updater and reinstall 10.5.2. If that doesn't solve your problem then you will have to do an Archive and Install.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
1. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
2. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
3. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
4. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
5. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update. -
Entourage Crashing and won't start
Upgraded to 10.4.10, Safari 3 beta etc.
Now Entourage won't start. Splash screen comes up then unexpectedly quits.
Tried reinstalling the 10.4.10 combo update.
No good.
I have tried to reinstall the MS Office update and now that won't even start - it too crashes.
And Word, Excel etc. won't work. Something obviously blocking MS Apps.
Help please!
Running a bunch of other stuff like QS, Google desktop etc. I did have PocketMac for Blackberry installed (now uninstalled) and also tried Missing Sync for Blackberry which I too have uninstalled.I have the same problem after installing the update today. All my Microsoft Office's applications crash when I try to open them. Anyone have a solution?
Here's my crash log for Entourage:

IBook won't start up in Mac OS X
Hi,
I have an iBook G3 with operation system OS 10.3.9 that I've been used for years. Recently, it just won’t start up in Mac OS X, the computer stops at the screen with a gray apple and a spinning gear. The last thing I remember doing is looking for physical address (Ethernet HW address) of the computer and didn’t change any setting. I don’t recall updating any program the last time I used it.
The computer passed all testes with “Apple Hardware Test” come with the computer.
I’ve tried everything that I can perform mentioned in "http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464". I once had the computer start up in safe mode to remove all login items as the document said and then I can never get into safe mode at all. I can now still boot into single-user mode but nothing worked.
I have two partitions (A&B), partition A has operation system installed. I used “TechTool Deluxe 3.0.2” to repair the disks, and partition B passed all testes and A sometimes passed all and sometimes failed on ‘Linear Read/Write, Random Read/Write, Read/Write Buffer’.
I can’t repair the volumes (both A & B) with disk utility using OS 10.3 install CD nor can I Archive and Install OS 10.3 on partition A, they both show the same error “could not unmount disk (-10000)”. I tried to erase partition B and it still showed “could not unmount disk”.
If possible I would like to save some files in partition A and I don’t care B at all. However, if necessary erase entitle disk and reinstall could be an option, though I don’t think that would work at current stage.
Any idea? Thank you in advance.
iBook G3 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Are you booting from the OS X Installer CD? You cannot repair a startup volume. If DU cannot unmount the volume it's because the volume is in use which suggests you did not boot from the OS X Installer Disc. I suggest you do that. After the installer loads select your language and click on Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu. You can repair both volumes this way.
The problem you describe at startup suggests that there are missing or corrupted essential system files. The only fix is to reinstall OS X. You can do an Archive and Install only if the hard drive is OK so repairing it is essential if you want to do an Archive and Install.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
