USB sends electric shock to sound card and speakers. "Boom" anytime it starts/stops/reboot

Since I installed Mountain Lion (july 2012) on my 2009 iMac, my usb ports send an electric shock to my external sound card anytime it starts/stops/reboot.
So my speakers make a sound like "boom" and I'm afraid they will be ruined..how do I control this shocks?
It NEVER happend with Snow Leopard and Lion. iOS always purchased on Mac App Store.

Thank you for the quick reply. Sadly it did not work . I can only choose between 44100 and 48000 hz but with both situations, the problem is still there.
It's most like an USB problem I think, it happens wherever I connect the cable (in any of the 4 ports). I think the Mac sends an electric signal (you can listen the speakers or see the leds in the sound card) to all ports while stopping/starting/waking/rebooting. Actually while starting it happens more than one time.
I would send a video, but I don't know why but my "Insert Video" button is unactive..

    Hello
Does anyone know what kind of sound card came with the 17in Imac G4 superdrive? Specifically, I'm looking to get surround sound speakers and need to know if the card, if any was equipped with the imac, is 5.1 surround sound compatible.
    Thanks!

The Audio out ports on the iMac are the bog standard 3.5mm stereo sockets which can't deliver 5.1 sound. You'll need a USB or Firewire adaptor.
    Griffin.
    CenterStage [sic].
Miglia (Virtual 5.1 only and requires USB2 so not fit for 800/1GHz iMac 17" only the 1.25GHz iMac 17").
    Hercules Muse.
There are numeorus PCI cards too - only suitable for PowerMac.
Newer iMacs, Minis, MB and MBP have Optical Audio In/Out.
There is no brand to the sound card. It's an integral part of Apple's logic board design.
Although Mac OS X supports 5.1 sound reletively few applications do though.

  • Sound card and speakers compatibili

I plan to buy a Dell XPS 40 (or Dimension 9200) computer with Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music card,PCI
Currently I am using an already old Gateway desktop with Boston Acoustics Digital Media Theater speakers ? BA 4800, with digital and analog input. (Part Number 7000787 on the Gateway site) [color="#800080" size="3" face="Times New Roman">https://support.gateway.com/s/SOUND/bostonac/7000787/U00787nv.shtml
They work nicely with a Creative Sound Blaster PCI, Creative Audio PCI (ES37, ES373) (WDM) from Creative Technology sound card.
I am satisfied with the audio performance of the BA speakers and would like to use them with my new Dell XPS 40 (or Dimension 9200) system, however I am not sure if they will work.
    Could you please advice?

Hi there, Yes in my case, X-Fi soundcard works greak with my Logitech 5500 speakers. Iam not sure about that 28 simultaneous voices right now, I suggest you would need to hear it personally I guess. But yeah Iam playing battlefield 2, and I say X-Fi has great positional audio and the voices in the game is crystal clear enough for me.

  • I have installed windows 7 on my mac book, but sound card and cam is not working in windows wht to do?, I have installed windows 7 on my mac book, but sound card and cam is not working in windows wht to do?

I am using Mac book with windows 7. But my sound card and cam is not working when booted through windows. How can I solve this?
    Thanks

Assuming that you tried to install Win 7 in bootcamp.
Power on the machine and press and hold the "option" key when you hear the bong sound.
Select the Macintosh HD icon and press "return" or just click on the icon.
Once booted into OS X go to System Preferences and select the Startup Disk icon and configure startup to use the Macintosh HD.

how to get WHAT U HEAR option for PCI Express X-Fi Titanium sound card and Windows 7 ? Is it on the basic driver? or do you have to install some other software?

You have to install the rest of the software(s) for the sound card. The software is (if it is with the installation CD, though) called "Creative Smart Recorder" or something like that.

Now I want to connect two receivers on a single sound card and do the rest as mentioned above
    Help!!

Thanks Linc Davis. I thought I'd have to pay for the consultation at the Genius Bar, but you're quite right, it is free and you can decide not to go ahead if the quote they give is too much. Just thought I'd write what happened in case anyone else has the same problem. The cause was basically a small cable that needed to be repaired, which cost about 76 euros. I took it to an Apple Store in Paris and they fixed it within 24 hours, even though they estimated 3-5 days. He said another reason this problem might be occurring is because the Logic Board needs to be replaced which would have cost around 360 euros (probably not worth the money for a 3.5 year old laptop), but thankfully it was just the cable.

  • Sound Blaster Sound Cards and Gigaworks S750

I recently purchased a Sound Blaster Zx sound card and found that it only supports up to 5.1 speaker configurations. That means I don't have sound from my side speakers in my Gigaworks S750 7.1 system. Needless to say I am very disappointed with Creative Labs engineers wondering why 7.1 support has been dropped from their very own speaker systems. I am posting hoping some more knowledgeable forum members can offer a better solution to my dilemma.
I could go back to my X-Fi Extreme Music card which has all of the 3.5 mm minijack speaker connectors but I would rather not do this as support for this card has been dropped and I am doubtful that there will be many more driver and/or software updates available. I would also rather not buy a new speaker system b/c I am happy with the Gigaworks and don't really want to replace it.
I looked going back to an older Titanium HD soundcard but it only has RCA connectors on the back of the soundcard and the Gigaworks connectors are 3.5 mm minijacks. The Gigaworks has no optical or HDMI connectors anywhere. I wonder....can I connect the 3.5 mm jacks from the Gigaworks to the RCA or optical ports on the ZX or Titanium HD with an adapter or converter? Does Creative sell new cables or adaptors, or any special audio shop for that matter, that would make the connections work?
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks!

As I said, that upmix is only a workaround, you still have just 5.1 discrete channels, just that the rear and sidespeakers emit the same sound.
I don't have any experience with Asus or Auzentech. Both have their issues as well but they are both very good and only the very best creative cards (X-Fi Titanium HD, ZxR and perhaps X-Fi Elite Pro) can compete.
On the other side Asus has most of their cards in production for half a decade without alteration and doesn't update their drivers very often as well. Their don't be as many issues as with creative cards, but you will find people having problems as well, it's not like they work flawlessly for everyone.
Same for Auzentech, only they didn't produce as highend cards as Asus and some Creatives (Titanium HD and ZxR only) plus while their dirver support seems to be good, their other support is nonexistant, especially since they seem to have stopped producing soundcards. Additionaly I have heard of the X-Fi Forte mysteriously dying on many people after some years.
The differences aren't great, though, and in my opinion you won't find a soundcard combining everything to perfection. The ZxR nearly does, only lacking 7.1 output.
The Asus Xonar STX is very similar, but can only ouput analoge stereo, while the PCI-based ST can output the very best analoge 7.1 available with a additional daughtercard (but who wants a PCI card nowadays?).
The best 7.1 cards from Asus, D2 and D2X, lack a Headphone-Amp, while the Xonar Xense and Phoebus, being nearly identical to each other, have one but use a slightly lesser DAC for all channels apart from Stereo, similar to the Auzentech X-Fi Forte and Bravura.
The D1 and DX finally are only slightly better than the X-Fi Music and Titanium, because they use a slightly better DAC for Stereo, which is used on Audigy 4 Pro and X-Fi Elite Pro for all channels and for stereo on the soundblaster Z and Zx.
Everything below (Xonar DG(X) and DS(X)) ist far inferior, though the DG(X) sports a cheap headphone-amp even the D2X lacks.
So, if you only want 7.1 as good as possible, the Xonar D2X is the best solution, followed by the D2, Auzentech X-Fi Prelude and Creative X-Fi Elite Pro.
But, if you want to drive very good headphones, too, the Xonar Xense, Phoebus and Auzentech X-Fi Forte will be the better solution.
None of them will be as good as the ZxR, if you can live with discrete 5.1 only.
The minijack cables aren't an option. Just when you connect your Gigaworks to any Asus, Auzentech, Creative X-Fi Titanium card or most onboard codecs you have to use 4 stereo minijack cables, while for any Creative 6.1/7.1 card from Audigy 2 to X-Fi PCI-series you have to use a special 4 stereo to 3 4-pin minijack cable, which probably came with your gigawarks set.
If you want to use any "normal" sound card you don't need any special cable, it's just 4x any normal stereo minijack cable.

  • External USB Sound Card and 6-channel 5.1 SS speakers not working

Hi. I purchased a few devices to expand my sound to 5.1 surround sound. However, I'm having trouble getting any results at all. Here's my situation.
    New 24-in Intel iMac
    Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speakers
PPA International External Sound 6 Channel USB device
I can select the audio device in the Sound control panel and under the Audio MIDI Setup utility. I have changed the device to be a 6 channel device, but I cannot get any sound to come out of the speakers at all. It could be that this particular USB audio device is not compatible, but since it shows up as a selectable device I had some hope that it would work. The device doesn't claim to be mac compatible, but that isn't always a requirement. I crossed my fingers and took a chance.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate the help.

I'm almost certain it is because of the lack of a mac driver for this particular sound card. <gasp> This setup works great under XP when using BootCamp. If I'm dead in the water with sound card, are there reliable alternatives I look for?
Here are the links to the products I'm referring to.

  • HS 1000 USB with creative x-fi sound card

    Hi there
I've a question for creative: why in your website don't you say that the headset disable any soundcard and sets itself as the default audio device? That's because I've already a creative x-fi soundcard and when i bought this product i expected to make the most of its capability since i have both soundcard and headset of creative. Now what should i do considering that i would get a better sound plugging an headset directly into my soundcard?
    thanks for your replies

___Hello, frustrated!! I empathize with you totally!! I own one Dell and 4 Mac's (for my creative work) including one top of the line MacPro, and I, too, have the 5.1 (and beyond!) sound problem issue. I agree with you that it is terrible that, in my case, after spending $12,000 for this bleeding edge technology, it only comes with stereo capability! When I used my older G-4, I was extremely happy for years with the Revolution 7.1 Surround Sound Card, by a great company called M-Audio. This card worked seamlessly right out of the box.....the software was so easy to use, too. So, naturally I was really shocked and bummed out a few months ago, when I learned from their tech support and sales team there, that no, this card will NOT work on the MacPro.
From the M-Audio website: Re: A_pple Intel Mac Pro & DualCore PowerMac G5 desktop compatibility_
The new Intel based Mac Pro desktop computers, as well as the latest generation DualCore PowerMac G5's, have PCI-Express slots, and not PCI or PCI-X (Like the Delta/Revolution Series cards). Not only are the data rates on PCI-Express different from PCI/PCI-X, but PCI-Express uses serial data transfers versus PCI/PCI-X transferring its data in a parallel fashion. For these reasons, a PCI-Express type motherboard connector (or "slot") is physically different from a PCI or PCI-X type connector. Therefore a PCI-Express adapter will not physically fit in a PCI or PCI-X slot, and vice-versa. This is true regardless of the adapter card's manufacturer.
All of our current USB and FireWire interfaces are compatible with the new Intel Based Mac Pro and late model DualCore PowerMac G5 computers.
    Please use their link: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.family&ID=recording
Of course, I prefer the efficient elegance of an internal card, rather than an external box providing more desktop clutter, but at least this is a solution for us! Best of luck to you!!

  • Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI Sound Card and Creative Sound Blaster PCI Card not detect

Ok here is my problem. I bought a Creative Sound Blaster PCI sound card a while back and it was working fine but recently when I would boot up my computer and try to play music say off of Winamp it says Bad DirectSound Driver. When I check device manager it shows no sound card there and in sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. Now my brother believed this to be a card fault so we went to Frys and bought a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit PCI card. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed this new one but yet it's the same problem. My assumption was that Windows XP had something conflicting so I reinstalled the OS. It found the card and I installed the latest drivers?off of this site but now it does the same thing yet again with a fresh install of Windows XP. The card has been in all 3 of my PCI slots and it will detect it for a moment but then acts like as if the card was never installed. Like I never installed a sound card into the computer. The onboard audio has been disabled for a while now but I do not know what the problem could be. I did Scan for hardware changes but it doesn't show up. Sometimes when the card is detected if I do scan for hardware changes and the card is there it will just magically disappear from the device manager as if it was never there. Even when I try to load music and I see the card is detected it will not play the music and ends up locking up Winamp to the point that sometimes will go BSOD. Now I would really like to find out what the issue is because I am planning this weekend to swap out my motherboard with a duplicate board to see if that will end up fixing the problem but I want to find out if there is any other way to fix this issue. Thank you.Message Edited by AuXoIs on 02-25-200808:28 PM

Hmm what other options is there for the bios on PCI slots? Also anything you connect to the motherboard can have oxidization (I think its that) build up on the connection. Check the connector on the card and get a eraser (Pen eraser is better) and give it a good cleaning. The connector might have alot of build-up on it and you can see it by a dark yellowy colour. I cleaned my graphics card and ram connectors after they got alot of the build-up on them. On a older computer my graphics stopped working and this fixed it. Also I went away for a while (like a month) and came back to see that my puter didn't display anything. Opened it up and saw that the graphic card had alot of corrosion? on the card connector and in the slot. Does that if you computer is turned of for a long time. Had a heck of time trying to clean the slot out. One other thing that it could be is the sound card is faulty. I had an audigy 2 and it died a while back . It picks it up and then try and use it computer freezes and the after restart it's not there anymore. Hope it's not that problem. Hope this gives you something to go by.

  • Electric shocks in iPhone 4 and Macbook Pro

    Hi
When I first started using my white 32GB iphone 4 a month ago, I felt very slight electric shocks and static-like feeling and a kind of pins and needles feeling in my hands. I soon either forgot about it or got used to it.
Then 2 weeks ago, I got a new 15" 2011 macbook pro (from Smart Deals on Amazon). When I was using the trackpad, I felt even more electric shocks and pins and needles in my hands and my hair has even started standing on end. When I used the laptop on my lap, it got boiling hot and the pins and needles, electric shocks and static in my body got even worse. Now, when I use my old macbook on my lap I'm even getting the same problem.
I have a carpeted 2nd floor flat and lots of electric devices. As far as I know all of my plug sockets are earthed.
I'm now not sure if the problem is psychological. My cousin held the phone outdoors and agreed that it was giving him shocks.
Could I have developed a static sensitivity since using the phone and the macbook pro?
Maybe I need an electrician to come to the flat or see a doctor.
But seriously, is there likely to be a fault with the macbook pro as this is by far the worst of the causes of the shocks and probably what started all of this? I need to get to the bottom of this quickly so I can decide whether to take back my macbook pro and/or iphone.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Steve,
Someone suggested carpal tunnel syndrome to me as well. But I was able to see an orthopedic surgeon a few weeks ago who ruled that out. I'll see my regular doctor in a week for a yearly checkup. It may be worth getting yourself checked out.
When you went to the Apple store, were you able to test other phones to see whether they would give you shocks? That is one of my next steps. I've entertained the idea that it is mainly me--acute sensitivity to electricity but a recenlty acquired sensitivity. It did not begin until I started using the iphone in June. Before that electronic devices did not give me shocks, and I did not feel pinpricks or burning. My habits have not changed. Someone joked that regular yoga may be making my less blocked nerves more sensitive. That I take with a big grain of salt.
I'll call the nearest store to see if they will let me test other phones out.
Thanks and I'll keep you posted,
    Tom

  • Creative sound cards and iTunes static

Okay, after having looked through the messages here it looks like everyone who has said they are having a problem with the static/audio distortion (unless the volume slider is set to 100%) are using Creative sound cards.
It looks like a number of us are even using the latest drivers and that doesn't seem to help.
Just to get an idea -- is anyone having this problem and NOT running a Creative sound card?

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook, and it was doing the static/distortion thing after I upgraded. What I did to fix it was to set QuickTime to output sound as 16-bit instead of 24-bit. It's really funny because the soundcard is set to 24-bit mode...
