  • Very useful advise for (most) upcoming laptops and tablets! (USB 3.1 Type C)

    Dear readers,
I have over 10 years of experience using different computer systems and I just find it so difficult to get a system that will be really appealing to a great deal of consumers. Mostly some things are just not good, while on other laptops (in this case I’m talking about Lenovo’s models) the proper features do exist. I just want you, Lenovo, to make the best possible appealing product you can.
Coming to the point, I see the upcoming ThinkPad Helix with a Core M (Intel Broadwell) CPU upcoming. The technology has now finally improved so much that we can get good tablets/laptops. As mentioned below, look at the fanless Core M CPU and the USB 3.1 Type C connector.
What I hope you’re going to release is a 13” version of this laptop with the following improvements:
13,3” (or similar) sized Full HD screen. Other resolutions possible. Only having an 11.6” model just isn’t big enough for most professionals to work on.
If you’re principally going to bring out a glossy model to attract a wider range of consumers, I would like a sticker that would ‘degloss’ the screen available. I prefer a matte screen.
USB 3.1 type C connector that can finally be used as a single docking port! Read more at e.g. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8558/displayport-alternate-mode-for-usb-typec-announced
This is a killer feature of which the spec has been released.
With this I hope you can release one power adapter with an usb 3.1 C connector.
Don’t create an overly big battery in order to save a weight in the tablet. I really want a lightweight base tablet, although plugged into the keyboard dock it could add more battery and weight.
Do not increase the absolute size of the screen bezel. The 11.6” model has a relatively big looking one, although I understand it is for e.g. maintaining its strength (and low weight).
If possible, make a replaceable M2 sata slot instead of using eMMC memory. Seems optional, it really depends on your considerations of you as a design team.
3G and/or 4G mobile data connection with SIM slot. Don’t make it optional, as having to produce two models increases costs.
Preferably no wireless charging as it’ll only increase costs.
I really hope you’re going to implement (some of) these wishes into an Intel Core M tablet and release it between januari-march 2015. The reason I’m right now posting this is after seeing the killer feature spec of USB 3.1 C available now, you can implement it in the coming months and create a great product.

  • Type F plug for 85W adapter?

I'm an American teaching English in Korea and I rely heavily on my lovely little 15.4" Macbook Pro (1.83 CoreDuo.) It's a big pain to drag the machine and power adapter back and forth to and from the school every day, so I'm thinking about buying an extra power adapter..or maybe just an extra AC cord. My question is:
does Apple offer an AC cord with a type F plug (CEE 7/4 "Schuko") for 85W magsafe power adapters?
In Korea standard outlets accept type F, C, and E plugs. Currently I am relying on a cheap little adapter (type C) that not only looks unreliable and dangerous but is a pain in the butt to have sticking on the end of my standard U.S. type B AC cord. Probably a stupid question, but I have looked around on Ebay and poked around on Apple's site a bit, but I've been unsuccessful. I can't use their Korean site because my Korean is not all that good.

The Apple World Travel Adapter Kit has a duckhead plug for Korea (the round thick pins, which is different than the round thin pins for continental Europe).
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8794G/B
Here's the pdf manual for the adapter kit, showing the difference:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/WorldTravel_Adapter_KitUG.pdf
Here's the 85 W MagSafe Adapter in the Korean Store - the picture shows a US-type plug, though (perhaps they simply didn't bother with a different image?)
    http://store.apple.com/kr/product/MA938KH/A
The stores for EU countries do show the correct plug, e.g.:

  • My iMac is looking for wireless keyboard but I have a usb and it is plugged in.

my iMac is looking for wireless keyboard but I have a usb and it is plugged in. Right now I am using the one from my old computer. This happened once before and I unplugged/plugged in, restarted. Didn't work. Repeated several times, it finally worked. This time not so much. Any one else have this problem and know how to solve it?

Try turning off Blue Tooth in its respective preference panel. Do not try using the USB keyboard in a USB extender. Connect directly to the computer.

  • Windows 7 x64 only installs the drivers for USB devices that are plugged in upon system startup

    Hi all,
I have a most unusual problem. On my personal desktop, I can only use USB devices that are plugged in upon system startup. If I unplug a USB device and then plug it in again, the driver will not install correctly. I cannot force the device to start and I
can't pick a driver manually. All I get is this. If I plug in a USB device and then reboot, the driver gets installed correctly and I can use it until I unplug it again. I'm pretty sure it's a Windows issue
but I can list the hardware I have if it is needed.
    I have tried:
Running an SFC /SCANNOW as administrator
Uninstalling all USB controllers via device manager and letting them reinstall
Neither worked to resolve the issue. If this was a client's computer I would probably just reinstall Windows but because this is my main work PC it'd be a huge hassle to do it, so I'd really appreciate any other ideas anyone has. If I have to reinstall I
    will. Thanks!

    Hi,
Since the issue just happened for 4 monthes, I consider that some changes or updates may cause the issue.
Please also try to restore the system back to the point before this issue.
You can also try these steps:
1.Power down your laptop or desktop
2.Physically unplug the computer.  If it’s a laptop, remove the battery too.
3.Leave it disconnected for three minutes
4.Replug the desktop or reinsert the battery
    5.Power on the system

  • Lenovo G50-45 why is no USB 3.0 driver listed for this model

I started a clean boot of Windows 7 x64 from USB as I'm not a fan of Windows 8 but since installing I've been unable to get the USB 3.0 port to recognize anything I plug in (was working fine before).
I can't see a USB 3.0 driver listed on the support page for this model:
    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/g50-45-notebo...
I've also read similar problems have occured on other manufacturers laptops and this was fixed by installing the chipset drivers etc in the correct order.
Is there a correct order I should adhere to?
    Any help much appreciated

I am having the exact same issue on my 2013 MBPr.
I have two Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0s, one plugged into the regular 3.0 port (450MB/s) on the left and the other plugged into the high-speed (5GB/s) 3.0 port on the right. When doing a simple copy/paste from the one drive to the other, I observe the following speeds:
    Peak Read (USB 3.0): 36.2Mb/s (288Mbit/s)
    Peak Write (USB-HS 3.0): 48.7Mb/s (384Mbit/s)
This is far below the 620MB/s for 3.0 and is more around the 35MB/s USB 2.0 standard.
So, I'm likely to agree with the original compaintant that the 3.0 standards aren't being employed by the MacOSX USB drivers and I'd hope to see a fix soon for these issues lest people start moving off of the Mac platforms to other vendors who adhere to industry guidelines.

    Hello, Nectar bits.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have tried some troubleshooting steps already with there issue persisting.  Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to go through when experiencing this issue.  They are labeled for the iPhone, but apply to the iPad as well.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
If the issue persists, see the section labeled Issue not resolved.

You are missing the chipset and usb 3.0 driver, which for some reason are not on this website. Try this chipset driver:

Recently my computer stops recognizing anything Bluetooth or USB related (wireless or plugged in, mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.) after a few minutes of use. I don't know if it's related, but recently I upgraded my iMac g5 (2005) from OSX 10.4 to Leopard 10.5 (I was told though, that my computer can handle the upgrade by Apple personelle). Also, I had the model that was released with a faulty power supply, but Apple fixed that problem for me a couple of years ago. My fan is also pretty loud (but has been for some time) and my computer takes longer to boot that it used to (this is a recent issue). I mention all of this in case there's a chance it's connected to the same problem. Any suggestions?

  • USB ports automatically shutting down for drawing too much power

Hi there, i currently use both of my USB ports on my MacBookPro for memory sticks and a basic mouse (nothing fancy or high powered).
Even if these are not plugged in i receive an error message saying that my USB hubs are using too much power and have to be shut down. Im currently required to back my work up every hour so the loss of the hubs is very annoying.
When working, the memory sticks are often randomly disconnected and crash the programme im working on.
Any ideas and or similar experiences??

It sounds like you have a program accessing data directly from a memory stick. A much better procedure is to copy the data to the hard disk and then let the program work on it there. If you have a program crash the original data is still safe on the memory stick. When you have finished working with the data on the hard disk, only then copy the data back to the memory stick.

  • USB ports gone after plugging in my Color LaserJet 2600n

I've posted here with the incident: the printer had worked for 2-3 days with me plugging the USB connection in and out for every print job. Yesterday I got a slight spark and no print done. Tried again, got a second slight spark and no print done. Today I checked other USB devices (external hard disk, flash memory, digital camera) and nothing works.
Ran the Apple Hardware Test and it reports that the Logic Board is fine. Can anyone explain how come I've lost both USB ports on my Powerbook? I only plugged the LaserJet in the left one (both times); never the right one. Sparks only occurred on the left port, not the right one. How come I've lost both ports?
By the way, system.log reports loads of IOUSBFamily errors, and console.log reports multiple lines about Watchdog finding Dead USB (not exact wording).
    Any tips please? I'm baffled.

OK, Stanley, that's what I also thought (even the Subject of my other post suggests that).
But, how come the Apple Hardware Test shows the Logic Board to be OK?
Can I fry both ports by just sparking one of them? I contacted the PowerbookMedic.com guys, and they said the two ports on the Powerbook (the left and the right one) are totally different circuits, and the only way to kill both is by the logic board getting damaged. Which it isn't.
    Tips?
