USB speeds on late 2012 model Macbook Pro

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro (without retina display) to replace the 15" MBP I bought in 2006. The USB speeds are extremely slow. For example, I transferred a 650 MB file from the new MBP to a thumb drive. It took more than 45 minutes. When I then transferred to my 2006 MBP it took less than 4 minutes. Both are running Lion. What gives? Is there a configuration issue or is there a problem with my USB ports in my machine?

Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV? There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection. Double check all cables. If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

I Traded my iPad 2 for a late 2008 model MacBook pro, When i first recived it there wasent any install disc or anything of that nature,...There was a small amount of information "residue" of the previous owner scatterd through out, I of course wanted it to be MINE....but alas...Apple makes there MacBooks from what i can tell a single owner notebook...its wasent a problem until now when im in the process of selling it my self, I have no real way to find true,helpful,sound instructions on how i could erase all MY information from the memory,And change the administrator of the mac to maybe a default like state until new owner punches in there info?....Any info on this matter would be Greatly apperciated....at the very least maybe a way to delete things with out a restore?....again i have no disc to help in this....Just the internet and now this Apple support communite

You need to call Apple, with your serial number handy, and order a set of machine-specific discs that originally shipped with your MacBook Pro.
After you recieve the discs, following the instructions in How to prepare your Mac for sale.

Firewalls on both machines are set exactly the same way, and with Network Browser set to allow. Can send a file from Mac mini to MacBook, but not the other way. Never get a window asking to accept on the Mac mini.
Found no useful documentation on AirDrop anywhere in the whole support site.

The range of reported problems using an external monitor or projector and the mid-2012 MBP is dizzying. The only way I've found to use an external monitor is to shutdown and plug the monitor in prior to rebooting. Any attempt to attach a monitor (or projector) after I'm up and running fails. All the trashing of plist files, resetting PRAM, etc etc. doesn't solve anything.
And turn off energy savings. If my MBP goes to sleep, it won't find the external monitor when waking. I have to reboot again.
Bush league problems. Our only encouragement is that it appears to be a software issue, since booting into Windows solves the problem. So we can hope for a fix. I'm pretty disgusted with Apple here. They've had a lot of time to fix this since 10.8 was released. I've been an exclusive Apple user since 1984. But as they've gotten fat and sassy, their quality control and responsive service has sunk. I can put up with their secretive, non responsive approach if things get fixed. But if they don't, they're headed for the ash heaps.

How do i transfer music files from an sd card to a late 2008 model Macbook Pro?

The android phone I have is really messed up and I can't plug it in with a USB cable to transfer the music files so is there anyway I can transfer them with just the sd card? I know on the newer models there's a slot for the sd card adapter but it's not on my model. Any help?

If is a MicroSD card you'll need a MicroSD to SD card adapter. Something like this.
Once you have one of those just insert it into the SD card slot on your Mac then open a Finder window and select all the images and press Command + c to copy then go to the folder you want to put them in and select it and press Command + v to paste to that folder.

My macbook pro has been freezing up randomly and barcode looking lines go all across the screen. Does anyone know if Apple had a recall on a 2012 model macbook pro that would explain any of this?

Does anyone know what I can do about this? I'm pretty certain that I didn't do anything wrong, and I already got it checked for viruses and it is not that.

Hard to say, you'd have to shop around. Check first with authorized service providers - https://locate.apple.com/au/en/#
If they're not authorized, make sure they give a warranty on the repair and hopefully have some good reviews on Google/Yelp etc.
Also make sure you test it when you get it back, it's common for the replacements to fail unfortunately (from Apple at least, probably anywhere).

Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Hot even if turned off

Hi Guys, has anyone encountered this issue? My late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.6 Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 512 SSD is Hot even if it's turned off. So when I power it up, it already drained some of it's charge, and when I check the Temperature using Temperature Guage, the CPU temperature is at 59 degrees Celcius, might I stress that this reading is from a newly turned on macbook pro with out any apps running( at idle stage). My friend who bought his late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.4 Ghz, 8Gb Ram and 258 SSD also has this issues.
Is this normal with the Haswell Chip? Because my slightly older late 2012 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.5ghz, 8gb Ram, 128 SSD never did manifest anything like that. And when I turn it on, the battery has the same charge as when I turned it off.
Any insights on this?

- Currently if I boot it up there is a flashing folder icon with a question mark in it. I am assuming this means there is no OS because I wiped the SSD and tried to reinstall Mountain Lion
- When I hold Command+R, it prompts me to Choose Network... the problem with this is the wifi constantly is disconnecting. The Retina 2012 does not have an ethernet port so i have considered buying the attachment then returning when done.

There is nothing to do if you don't have a reliable Internet connection unless you have a copy of the Mountain Lion installer application from when you first installed it.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

Your model MacBook Pro didn’t originally come with Snow Leopard installed at the factory. If you don’t have the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, then I’d also recommend that you purchase that, in case your hard drive fails and you’d like to install Snow Leopard onto its replacement.

Hi! I was the unlucky recipient of the Troj/JSDldr-V "iTunes" trojan (turns itunes German, for starters). It arrived via a FedEx email that was in my Spam folder and somehow unleashed when I moved Spam to trash. (I saw a fake itunes update, clicked the red circle to close which might have been the trigger). Anyhoo, I am perplexed as to how to remove. My Sophos found it and isolated it afterwards, but has been unable to remove it as iTunes is already compromised - and everything being in German or faux German, I'm not about to enter any info as it cleverly prompts for admin user name and password. Sneaky buggers! I have perused forums and found it is likely spyware, but have been unsuccessful at finding how to remove for Mac (Sophos found threat, can't remove it). Running a 2011 late model Macbook Pro, 10.9.5. Any support would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm broke (as in homeless broke) and even if I had money, the nearest Apple store is a five hour drive away - a tad inconvenient and inaccessible. :-( Karma points for helping, though! Hey guys, I've been trying to save my mac from this constant lag for the past few days to no avail. I've been reading the forums and trying to figure this out myself but I haven't been able to reach a solution so here I am. I've done a clean reinstall. I've run disk permissions and repaired the disk. I've reset PRAM. I don't have FileVault running. I am constantly getting rainbow wheel, even as I'm typing this question out. Applications freeze in their own windows, for example, Chrome will freeze but I will still be able to move over to another application like safari and use safari. It's practically impossible to run any kind media because it stutters constantly. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance.

It's been a few days since my last post, i've tried uninstalling chrome and adobe flash but my mac is the same. My problems have actually grown. Now my mac is heating up even when the lid is down and the computer is sleeping. The battery has also begun to drain very quickly. Any suggestions? solutions?
