i have a mac book pro. when i use a usb pen drive or multi card reader. every now and again the computer brings up an error saying it is disconnected but it is still plugged in. i had a usb pen drive this is no longer accessible due to this problem.
any ideas

Hi,
When connecting to your network via the computer, insure you set sharing to enabled. Turning off sharing when connecting to your network in Win 8 can sometimes cause a disconnect

  • Why is my iPad's wi-fi constantly going on and off but is still connected?

Sometimes I am using Skype to call people, but in the middle of the call, the call drops. The wi-fi is still connected, but the app says I am offline. I'm pretty sure it's not a bug in the app but rather the iPad's hardware. I've browsed the web sometimes having to disconnect and reconnect my wi-fi radio. Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Wife and I just bought the new IPad 4. We are experiencing wifi issues where we show full bars but cannot get to websites or access anything on the Internet. We use our IPhone 5 at the same time and we can get on the Internet just fine. What a bummer to have to call Apple about this.

  • Alias dropped but can still connect with the same

    Hi,
I had 2 instances of sql server on server machine -
XYZ05 (SQLServer 2008R2 which was default instance and port was 1433) and XYZ05\SQL2012 (New named instance and port was 40196)
Due to some requirement we un-installed XYZ05 instance, team wanted to connect XYZ05\SQL2012 instance using default instance i.e. XYZ05. So, we created alias with same name and changed
the port from 40196 to 1433 and it was working fine.
Now, I have dropped the alias but I can still connect the server using same alias. I have checked registry, cliconfg.exe, restarted the service and server. However, I can still connect
    using the alias.
Can you please tell what I missed to check or what could be the reason for alias still working?
    Thanks!!

    Hello,
It's because the default port 1433 is used, that's why you can only use the machine name to connect to.

  • Ipod shows a white screen but  it still connects to my computer

Today I was silly enough to drop my Ipod accidentally on the ground (by accident of course) though not very hard, when I turned it back on a white screen shows up. However I can still reset it but it still shows up as a white screen. When I plug the Ipod into my computer Itunes still picks it up and all of my songs & albums show up still. When I take the Ipod out it's still a white screen. I've tried resetting the thing many times but still no luck. What should I Do? Does anyone still think there may be hope restoring this?

  • OfficeJet 4620 regularly loses connection with HP drivers - but is still connected to network

    Hello,
I recommended an HP OfficeJet 4620 printer for my parents a few months ago. I'm about to leave for a new job and want to make sure it's working properly before I do. Their home network uses a Motorola SBG6580 cable modem as a WAP, but the following problems have also been observed when using other routers. There are at least four computers hard-wired to the network (Windows 7/8).
The printer has been configured to connect to the wireless network, with excellent signal strength and a DHCP lease of 192.168.1.17 - a static IP configuration with no lease has also been tried, it doesn't seem to help at all. The printer's webserver is always accessible at this IP address, and the printer's LCD screen always reports that it is connected.
When using the latest official HP drivers to communicate with the printer (whether 'full featured' or 'driver only'), all functionality is available - scanning, printing, retrieving ink level, etc. - for at least a few hours. After a day or two, perhaps after the printer enters standby/low-power mode, or after an incoming phone call (i.e., potential fax) the printer connection is no longer available. The exact error message given by HP Printer Assistant is 'the computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device'. Print requests go unfulfilled, the scan-to-computer service goes offline, and so on. However, when the HP driver is uninstalled and the Windows 8 OEM driver for this printer (as provided by Windows Update) is used, printing always works. Manually power-cycling the printer and resetting the IP address used by the HP driver can fix this problem and allow printing/scanning to resume, but only for a limited amount of time.
The following troubleshooting steps have already been tried:
    - Configure printer to use a static IP/gateway/etc. - doesn't really matter, the printer is always connected at the same IP
    - Power-cycle router, reset router to factory defaults, use different router - no effect
    - Restarting clients, or HP services, etc. - no effect
    - Connect printer via USB to each client and use 'Convert to Wireless' afterward - doesn't really do anything useful
    - HP Print and Scan Doctor - doesn't report any problems when successfully connected, and isn't helpful at all when it isn't
    - Move printer closer to WAP - signal strength is excellent, there's no other interference and the printer webserver is always accessible with no problems
    - Disable firewalls, etc. - no effect
    - Firmware / driver updates - everything is already up-to-date
The following actions are not acceptable solutions to the problem:
    - Connect printer via USB and use SMB/HomeGroup to share it
    - Use only the Windows 8 OEM driver (no scanning functionality, and driver doesn't show up in Windows Update for Win7)
If I can't resolve this problem, they will likely return the printer as defective to the retailer and buy a different brand instead.
    Thanks for your time.

  • WRT54G lost connection to Internet from Wired computer, but wireless still connect

I have the router hard wired to a desktop computer and have 2 other computers connecting wirelessly through it.  The hard wired computer suddenly could not connect to the internet, yet the 2 wireless computers still can.  The computer was 5 yrs. old and I had bought a new one, so thought it was the best time to set it up.  I have the same problem with the new computer.  The only way I could get access to the internet on it was to run a line from the USB port on the DSL modem directly to the computer.  I can still see the 2 other computers and their files through the router, just can't get the router to see the modem from the hard wired computer.  The 2 wireless computers can access the modem through the router, but the wired one can't!  According to Linksys the problem is with my ethernet/lan on the computer.(both computers?!)  According to the repair/diagnose on my lan connection, it says there is a problem with the router or modem.  Any suggestions?

I found the problem, the router is bad.  I bought a new router and installed it, made no changes to the computer hardware, and the new router worked fine with the ethernet connection for the hard wired computer.  I am really disappointed in the help that I received from linksys.  They kept insisting there was nothing wrong with the router and that the 2 computers I tried to hard wire to the router both had bad ethernet ports.  I will not be buying their products again.

EDIT: the power on the usb ports work but data transfer does not.

The issue can be caused by the USB controllers. Please follow the steps below to reload USB controllers.
    1. Click "Start", type in Device Manager the Search bar and press "Enter". Click Continue if necessary.
    2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the "Host Controller", click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
If the issue persists, I suggest that you download the latest chipset driver and BIOS from the following website, and then install then in Windows 7 RC.

  • HomeFusion stopped working, but Jetpack still connects?

It is Memorial Day weekend and we live near a popular lake with lots of weekend traffic.  We just got HomeFusion a week ago and everything has been working splendid, until yesterday.  I can see where we are connected to the router, it says it's connected to the net, but nothing will load.  I thought that maybe the high load of traffic is overloading the tower. But I plugged in our jetpack that we still have and I'm able to connect with no issues.
Yes, I've unplugged and replugged the router.  I have not changed any router settings since it was installed. All the lights on the router are green. I tried running a direct lan line to my pc and the issue still persist.
I'm reluctant to call Customer Support because of issues I've heard of wait times and some service reps not even knowing what HF is.
Is this possibly a high traffic issue being a holiday weekend? If so, then why can I connect with the jetpack?  We are planning to cancel our jetpack service, so this issue happening less then a week into our service is alarming.  Any suggestions?

    TB,
Thanks for helping out. FYI, as of Tuesday morning (the day after Memorial Day) we regained net access. Aside from unplugging the router a couple times on Saturday, I've done nothing else.  As I mentioned, all the lights on the router was green.  Both lights on the can where solid green.  I logged into the admin page and it said I had good signal strength and connections.  So for some reason, we just could not access the net for three solid days over a holiday weekend through HF, but we could access it through the jetpack. Since all out hardware shows green, I can only assume we were being blocked on the server side.  If there any way to check this out?
So I'm stuck on where to go from here.  We were getting ready to cancel the jetpack service because we're over the 10 day trial for the HF.  There is no point is keeping both.  But are we going to lose our HF service every weekend during our high traffic summer season?
Thanks again for taking your time to work with me on this!

  • I loaded the new version of Mozilla, now I get microsoft defender error messages and then i can no longer connect but explorer still connects. How do I fix it?

i loaded the newest version of Mozilla, i have windows vista. I began receiving microsoft defender error messages and now i can only connect the internet through explorer. i love using mozilla. what can i do to fix the problem?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • 60 gb Ipod wiped itself (but is still full) ......

    Hey
I've a 60gb video ipod which decided to pretend there's nothing on it even though the memory is still full. Now this has happened before on my 20gb and I used 'longfingers ipodfolder' to extract all the music, reset my ipod and then reload all the music back onto it! Worked like a dream.
My problem now is the videos which I had stored on my ipod. Is there a way of getting those back? Very grateful for any help as I had alot of videos and of course, I've no backup!

It could be wireless interference that is causing the problem. Download a Wifi Analyser app for you smartphone if you have one or use the free version of inSSider from forum member Keith Beddoe's website here
    http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/software/insidder.zip
It will show you the wireless channels and which one your Homehub is on. You want to find the channel with the least congestion, ie. least number of users. Once you have that you need to change your homehub onto that channel.
See link how to change channel on homehub
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14094
My advice would be either run an Ethernet cable from the Homehub or get Powerline adaptors and use them to connect the PC to the Homehub. You will get far better speeds and a more stable conection.
