USB stops working after BIOS flash to ABCN74WW on new Z70-80

Hi,
I started with Windows 7 installation on my brand new Z70-80 which worked fine, USB 2.0 ports had been working.
After flash of BIOS to ABCN74WW USB ports are not working any longer. I already tried soft BIOS reset by unplugging power and battery and pressing the power button for 20 seconds. USB ports are still unaccessible after this, a USB stick flashes for a moment, mouse LED is on, but no laser and no operation at all. Same when I start brand new windows installation.
Are there known issues with this BIOS version ? Can I undo the BIOS flash ?
Kind Regards
Solved!

  • Mouse stops working after BIOS flash???

I have a K7n2-L mobo and I updated my bios to ver 3.3 from the stock ver. Now when I play games the desktop pointer or hour glass will show up in the game. Also when Im playing Unrealtournament 2003 the mouse will stop functioning for a short time. I have upgraded all my drivers for everything and the bios. In DeusEX I just get the hour glass like something is trying to run but nothing is except the game. It doesnt start out that way in the game it just shows up after a while. In UT2003 I get the pointer after a while. Everything runs great on all other apps it just messes up in the games. BTW I updated all game patches and I even tried running them without the patches to see if it was a patch it wasnt. It never did this befor I flashed the bios. I know you prolly thinking "Then why did you flash them in the first place" well I just thought it would help fix a few problems like the not having a beep at boot. I shouldnt of done it so ok. How can I reflash back to the original bios. No I dont have a start up disk. Im on win 2000 pro and tried to do it like it suggested in the faq with a win 98 disk but it didnt work. So I hope someone can please help. and thanks. BTW my system spec's are. AMD Athalon XP2800+ with Barton core... 640KB total on die cache
    MSI K7N2 nForce2 mobo
Matched pair...XMS Corsair TWINX 512-2700 DDR ram Dual chan config with heat spreders.
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
    SB Audigy gamer
    Twin IBM 40 gig ata 133 7200 rpm hdd's
    400 watt ps
    Zalman 6500 cpu cooling
    Zalman VGA heatsink pipe combo
    Windows 2000 Pro sp 3

Use the Live Update option.......then let it find the latest bios file......run the exe file and let it build your floppy boot...But do not boot to it yet...........After the floppy is made open it up and you will see a file named AWDBOOT.ROM file should be abt256k......remember this file.........Now exit and browse the the MSI site of your choice and look for the bios of you choice......3.1/3.2/ etc.....download the file.......Open the file and save it contents to a folder to remember.......Inside........the file you will see something like w6570nms.320(example).......now rename the file to AWDBOOT.ROM........now copy or move this file to the floppy you made earlier..........It will say the file already exists......do you want to replace it and say yes....bla bla.......Now restart the machine with first boot as floppy bla bla.....Hope this helps

  • REFInd stopped working after BIOS flash

So I have successfully installed Windows 8 on my SSD while having Arch linux installed on my other internal hard drive. I have been using rEFInd as the boot loader and it was working great until today when i flashed my BIOS to a custom version so I could overclock my GPU. Now when it boots it goes straight into Windows 8 and not to rEFInd. I have no idea why. I know I have flashed the BIOS so i had to reenter the settings I had before such as:
    SATA Operations = AHCI
    Disabled Secure Boot
    Disabled Fast Windows 8 Boot
    Enabled UEFI and Disabled Legacy
    Disabled Legacy ROM support
These are the same settings I was using before. Please help. I'm sure my Arch install is still there and in tact, i just think my BIOS/UEFI isn't recognizing that rEFInd is installed.

    swordfish wrote:
I think the BIOS update has cleared the nvram. Just boot with your Archiso in UEFI mode, mount your partitions and arch-chroot into the Arch on your harddrive. Then use efibootmgr to check and write a new entry to the nvram.
    I mean something like this:
    # efibootmgr -c -g -d /dev/sdX -p Y -w -L "rEFInd" -l '\EFI\refind\refind_x64.efi'
Where X and Y denote the drive and partition of the UEFISYS partition. For example, in /dev/sdc5, X is "c" and Y is "5".
Thank you that fixed it. I didn't even think about using efibootmgr dur dur dur

  • All USB stops working after restarting iMac, please help!

I am having a serious problem with my iMac and i'm at a loss of what to do. I have a 24" imac with 10.5.6 and about a week or two ago I restarted my computer only to find that none of my USB ports were working. I thought it was a fluke so i just restarted again, only to find out that they still wernt working. I was forced to do a restore because I couldn't find a fix so I booted up from my leopard disc and did a restore from my time machine backup. I thought all was well and good until i restarted again yesterday. The same exact thing happened so I did another restore. Well, I just needed to restart my computer again and what do you know, my USB stopped working again! I have repaired permissions, done the apple hardware test, reset the PRAM, and verified the disc to see if there was anything wrong with it. I am at a total loss on what to do and Im really not looking forward to doing another restore only to have it do the exact same thing. Please help!

If you haven't tried this, try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543?viewlocale=en_US
When you booted from the restore disk, did you run Disk Utility to check the hard disk for errors?
If not... make sure and disconnect anything connected to the USB ports first,
    To check the hard disk:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the Menu Bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click the Verify button. If DU reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
Also, click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop, click: About This Mac, then click: More Info
That will launch your System Profiler. Under Contents on the left, click: USB and make sure your USB information is there.

  • Satellite A105 Shift Keys stop working after BIOS update

I have a stack of laptop boards from the A105 series (Intel chipset) that I received with bad BIOS's. Two worked, and I updated the BIOS's on them to fix CPU compatibility issues. After that, the shift keys stopped working, and pressing Shift-A causes the power light to dim. Reverting to ANY previous version BIOS, whether through the Windows program, CD, or Crisis Recovery floppy (magic key is "F", not "B", "Esc", or "U"), does not fix the keyboard problem.
To make things more confusing, I did notice that the one single BIOS that seems to actually correct the problem is version 1.50, which I haven't seen available for any Tecra A7 or Satellite A100/A105, except a couple A100's, but the BIOS file is much too small and can't be loaded.
Does anyone have any idea why these Intel-based boards are doing this? Or does anyone know where I can get a usable version 1.50 BIOS?
For the sake of this post, please consider my skill level to be high. (In other words, I would be thankful for people trying to help with "Replace the keyboard", but I have about a dozen keyboards, all of which I have tried, and all of which work on other laptops. Additionally, if you have just a theoretical solution, I'm definitely open to hearing it. Also, if a Toshiba tech would like to reply, I would very much appreciate it!)

Hi, thank you for your help.
Some motherboards were not in chassis when I got them. Is there a place the PSAAxx model number would be written on the boards?
Four PSAA8U (Two A105-S4334 and Two A105-S4014) - Intel Chipset, fingerprint reader. Tried BIOS Versions 1.40, 1.70, 2.00, 5.10, 5.60, 5.90, and 6.00. Shift keys do not work on either one.
    Two PSAA2U (A105-S2091 and A105-S2031) - ATi Chipset. BIOS versions 1.50, 1.80, and 2.30. Keyboard works.
Another PSAA8U (A105-S4184) - Intel Chipset, no fingerprint reader. BIOS version 6.00. Keyboard works.
I noticed that so far all of the models with fingerprint readers have the problem. All of the ATi Chipset boards are working fine, but they have significant processor limits. I am in the middle of updating the BIOS in another Intel one using a Crisis Rescue Disc, so after that finishes I will try disconnecting the fingerprint reader to see if it has an effect.
I don't think the keyboard controller is faulty, because these boards all failed on the same day. I have tried updating the BIOS using WinPhlash, Phlash16 in DOS, the install CD, and a Crisis Recovery Disk. I set the defaults in the BIOS almost every time, and I also have tried holding the power button for 60 seconds with the power cord unplugged and the battery removed (as some people have suggested.)
The shift keys don't work in DOS, Linux, Windows, or even in the BIOS. I test it in the BIOS by using Tab to cycle through the fields in time of day, then Shift-Tab to cycle backwards. This works with a USB keyboard, and it also works on the ATi chipset models and the Intel chipset models that are still working.
Thank you for your reply. (-:

  • [SOLVED] USB stop work after suspend (only right ports!!!)

    Hi,
    It drives me crazy!
I recently installed Arch on my new laptop SAMSUNG NP900X4C that have 3 USB ports, one in the left side and two in the right side . When I boot the system (or reboot) all USB ports works fine, but after system suspend like close lid, only the left port go back work.  dmesg shows nothing when I plug a pendrive in the any right USB ports, even less lsblk.
This is my dmesg out when I connect the pendrive in all ports after boot:

Oh crap! I am kid with his new toy...
After a lot of google it I read something about firmware control the wake up of USB 3.0 and when I entered in this laptop BIOS what I found?! This option disabled:
    USB S3 Wake-up [Disable]
So, just enable it and all my USB ports go back to work after suspend. I don't understand the purpose of it disabled by default.
Anyway I am sorry for this newbie mistake.

  • Cinema display USB stops working after upgrading to mountain lion

I am using a newly bought 27' Cinema display + mid 2011 MBA. an Apple USB keyboard is attached to the display USB port, and a logitech mouse is attached to the USB port on the keyboard.
After upgrading to mountain lion, when I unplug the thunderbolt from MBA, and then plug it back, the USB keyboard and mouse stops working. Moreover, I cannot open anything in System preference, and cannot properly shutdown the machine!
    Please help on this issue.

Launch Terminal, type or copy/paste the following:

    Hit enter.

  • Fans are not stopping working after BIOS update on Satellite A200

    Hi,
Im using Satellite A200-1bp. I recently upgrade my BIOS 5.20-win and my fans are not stopping working all the time.
I think its reason is BIOS upgrade
How can i find lower bios?
    Please help me..

    Hello
Maybe this thread can help http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums//thread.jspa?messageID=128543
Be sure you use right BIOS for your notebook model.

  • Board won't work after BIOS flash

    All,
I have K8T Neo MS-6702 Ver 1.0 mother board. I flashed the bios using this .zip file 6702v32.zip which i downloaded from the MSI site. While flashing from the floppy there were no errors. I used Windows XP. now after i flashed when i reboot, all the machine does is blinks the CDROM driver light continuesly & does nothing else.
From the MSI website, it say i can press Ctrl+Home to make it read AMIBIOS file from the floppy. But Ctrl+Home doesn't seem to do anything.
Can someone help me here as to how to get back my Bios.
    Thanks
    Pavan

OK.. i tried the Insert & delete keys nothing happens.
Now going on to the AMIBOOT.ROM file in the floppy.
It says put this file alone in the floppy & reboot the machine & press and hold Ctrl-Home.
I tried this, but the big question is for how long am i supposed to press & hold.
The link from "apple renegade" user suggests that it would take 4 minutes.
    i quote from that website.
    Quote
AMI: The AMI boot-block BIOS will look for a AMIBOOT.ROM file on a diskette. Copy and rename the correct BIOS file on the floppy and power up the PC. The floppy doesn't need to be bootable. You will see the PC read the floppy, after about 4 minutes you will hear 4 beeps, this means the transfer is done. Reboot the PC and modify the CMOS for your configuration.
Here there is no mention that i need to hold the Ctrl+Home key combination.
Also, when the floppy is being read, would the floppy LED be on. I don't see any indication of the floppy being read.
Also, from the Basic Troubleshoot link in the MSI website it suggested to try the JBAT1 jumper, move it to 1,2 & leave for 15 seconds & put it back 2,3 pins. Tried this but no change.
It was also suggested to pull the  VBAT1, the CMOS batter & keep it out & the system down for several minutes. Did this too & keep the system down for about 5-7 minutes. No change when i put back the battery & restart.
    Any other suggestions??
Probably a shift in topic, if i were to get a new motherboard, i would prefer to get the same motherboard, so to pull the CPU off & put it in the new mobo, how do i clean the thermal pad & how to re-apply a new one.
Thanks a million for all your help

I have a touchsmart tx2 1224-ca, I updated to the recent BIOS, using windows 7, and now my keyboard wont work at all, not even in the post screen, or bios. Though the computer does work with my usb keyboard plugged in. Im extremely frusterated at this becuase I got the flash from HP themselves and It screwed it over.

    Hello Thewierd1,
After flashing the BIOS the keyboard no longer functions, is that correct? I will try to help you with this issue.
Try restore storing the BIOS, you may have to use the 2nd method if the USB keyboard doesn’t work for you.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • K1 -- CAPS LOCK not working after BIOS flash

My K1 had to be shipped back to Lenovo for BIOS failure and upon getting the unit back I've noticed the Android keyboard is different, and won't accept a caps lock instruction (?). What's up?

SOLVED! The technicians apparently switched my keyboard to the Lenovo version I don't like it AT ALL! Horrible keyboard. As for the correct time, I had to go in and reset my TIME ZONE. Problems solved.

  • Why do some videos from some website stop working after seconds or minutes on a new iPad

I subscribe to some website posting videos. The videos will start as it should and then stop after, sometimes seconds, and sometimes minutes after the beginning.
The iPad is less than 3 weeks old. it is already the second. The first was a 16 GB this one is a 32 GB. no difference. This issue does not happen with only one website but other posted videos from other websites.

This and other answers helped me to understand better why I cannot view these videos and search for answers. I found that the videos posted by this website end in .cfm, and doing research cfm is Adobe and is not compatible with apple software ? why this is not resolved is surprising to me - Several other people experience the same issue as I (dating 2007-to 2013) I am not computer literate but I know how to find information on the web and know +or -  how to use the programs. There seems to be nothing that will convert these videos into a format that the iPad could process and allow. should I buy quicktime for my windows device and transfer/sync it to the ipad (?)(3 weeks old I paid $900) will this work. I have tried to upgrade the firmware to my router but no luck there either; even following all the steps religiously. the unzip is not working? I get a file the upgrade button rejects.
if it is this cfm format that is doing that, then there is no reason to spend x$ into a new router : the issue will remain the same- is this statement correct ?
    your help is greatly appreciated.

  • First USB port stops working after random time and won't work until I restart

    Hey guys
I have this problem on my late 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch,
It's been for a year already and it really freaks me out and drive me crazy
My first USB port next to the thunderbolt stops working after like 3 days, and it won't respond until I restart my computer or log off and log in again.
If I restart my computer, USB stops working after 3 days and won't respond until I restart
If I log off it works for like a couple of hours and then stops again
I have tried EVERYTHING, SMC reset - no luck, PRAM reset - same results, Upgraded to lion same results, Upgraded to mountain lion - SAME RESULT
And I can't take it to an apple store because I'm not from the US
I am 100% sure this is a software problem and I've seen here that many people have faced this problem
Please help, it really freaks me out

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear but unless you really are using your laptop 24 hours a day, is there any reason why you don't just shut it down and reboot when you're ready to use it again? I have to wonder how many other MacBook Pro owners potentially have the same problem but when they quit computing for the day, their computers quit too.

  • Right USB Port stops working after disconnecting device since 10.9.2

    Hi,
Since updating to 10.9.2 the right USB port on my MBA stops working after diconnecting a device (tested: external hard drive, USB flash drive, USB HSPA Modem). The only way to get the port recognizing the device on that port is to do a restart. If the device is connected from starting the MBA it works fine, if I then eject the drive and reinsert it or a different USB device the device doesn't get recognized. The devices do get power, my WD passport ultra spins up just fine, the USB HSPA modem also indicates it's working (with signal) but nothing shows up in finder or diskutility. If the modem is connected from start (and thus working) and then disconnect from the internet but not remove the drive I can reconnect to the internet. The problem only occurs after disconnecting the device. The port becomes inactive. The left USB port works as expected.
    Steps I've taken:
    Disk Persmission
    PRAM
    SMC
    Reapplied the 10.9.2 update
    Sent feedback to Apple

It's an Apple Pro keyboard and mouse, the dongle is
plugged into the Mac and not the keyboard. The same
set-up is, and has been working on all our other
    Macs.
The sleep issue sounds interesting- hum, maybe...
Is your keyboard plugged into one of the USB connections on an Apple monitor? If so, you may want to change that connection to one that is on the G5 itself. My monitor came with a warning note indicating that problems will likely occur if the keyboard is connected to the monitor.
I also had a problem with the automatic sleep function. After much trouble-shooting and a logic board replacement, it was concluded that coming out of the automatic sleep function with any USB device active would freeze the entire USB bus. After disabling automatic sleep in system preferences, I've had no freezing problems. My machine works fine with the manual sleep function in the Apple Menu.
