USB storage with password

Hello,
I have the N900 model and would like to connect a hard drive via usb.  The router can see the external hard drive but the problem I run into is the HD uses a password to open it.  Any ideas on how to get past this issue?

OK, sorry for the much delayed response.  I actually lost where I had posted this question.
I can see the router in the "My Network Places" in Windows XP.  When I click on the folder for the drive it opens the folder.  Inside there is a bunch of  things inside:  an few application extensions, setup information file, icon files, and two applications.  When I click on one of the applications titled "FDETravelerApplication" a dialogue box opens with "Open File-Security Warning" at the top and "The publisher could not be verified.  Are you sure you want to run this software?".  I click "Run" and another dialogue box opens which is the one that would normally open if the usb drive were connected directly to the computer.  However this dialogue box doesn't contain a password prompt now.  It contains an error message which reads as "No Device Found".
So what now?

    Pros: Decent basic router
Cons: Advanced features don't work, not worth the price, poor support, critical forum posts deleted
Other Thoughts: The Linksys e4200 is supposed to be a high-end router, with media server capabilities. It is NOT. The media server feature does not work and has not worked correctly since product release. Linksys keeps promising a fix, but customers are still waiting. Support forum members have been pressing the company for a solution, but Linksys merely deletes critical post from the forums. This is apparently their idea of how to "fix" the problem.
There are certain features that make a router a high-end purchase. If usb storage with media server capability is one of the features you are looking for, you should avoid this product.

    Hi,
USB HDD uto 1 TB with file system NTFS ot FAT32 works just fine, if any issues try taking up the back up for the data already present on the HDD and then try to format the HDD using the router''s formatting tool available under set up page - Storage...
Please share your issues faced with the same....

  • USB storage with WRT610N....help!

After spending 4 hours (no exageration) with Linksys Level 2 tech support I am at my wits end....
I just purchased a WRT610N and want to use the USB storage feature to backup my primary desktop.  Here's the specifics:
Desktop is an older Dell XPS runnings XP SP3.  Desktop has three logons....for myself and my kids.
I'd also like each desktop logon to be able to access the router USB storage feature so that we have a common place for pictures, etc.
I have an office laptop and I would like this to access the storage device
Eventually I will be adding more computers to the network for my kids.
I'm also interested in using the FTP access to get to the files on the storage device when I am away from home.
Through 3 separate tech support calls, each tech tried a different approach to get this to work.  Nothing worked.  I want to start from scratch....  What is the best way to accomplish what I want to do?  After suffering through the pain, is the WRT610N a good solution or should I return it to Amazon and do this some other way?
A final note, tech support did upgrade the WRT610N's firmware to 1.00.00.18.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The harsh reality is that the results for people trying to use the Storage Link function have been mixed, at best.  Especially in trying to utilize it for a "backuP' function.  The kernel used to manage the Storage Link is apparently unix/linux based, and has some difficulty playing nice with Windows based backup utilities.  Additionally, there have been reports that the connectivity to the attached devices is, at times, poor.  Finally, there are issues with file corruption (date/time stamps, specifically).  There have been no firmware updates to deal with these issues.  If your primary need is for an attached NAS solution, I would strongly recommend looking at other devices for that solution.

Since I have upgraded my A1 to ICS using:

I have not had USB storage to connect the tablet's file system to a PC. Previously, when I plugged the USB cable in, the tablet would aske me if I wanted to turn on USB debugging or USB storage. Now, it only asks if I want USB debugging.
I have looked carefully through settings for an option to control this, there does not seem to be one for USB storage, only for USB debugging.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No, I found the answer in a different thread. The option is on Settings->Storage->three dots.
    Interface guideline:
Hide the important options so the droolers will not find them, change them, and whine when the system no longer works the "way it used to".
    Well, I am gonna whine:
    1) the mutually exclusive MTP and PTP options are two check boxes, not a grouped pair of radio buttons.
    2) The PTP option is not selectable, it reverts quickly to MTP.
IF IT AIN"T SELECTABLE, DON"T PUT IT IN THE INTERFACE !
Excuse for yelling.  Since you were not paying attention during the interface design briefings, I will tell you to pay attention now. Thank you.

You might want to make sure your credit card is listed in the billing information associated with your Apple ID (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1918).
Also, to change the From name that appears when you address emails on and iOS device, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your iCloud email account, tap you iCloud account at the top, tap Mail at the bottom, then enter the name you want to use in the Name field at the top.
To change the From name on your Mac Mail, go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done.  Then quit Mail on your Mac and re-open it.  Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.

I am pretty sure it iss neither a hardware problem with my laptop or my usb devices, as they both work on my dual-booted Ubuntu. My usb ports in general seem to be functioning, I can still charge a phone through them and use my built in USB webcam.
I am not sure where exactly this issue lies, it started after I upgraded to 3.0.7 (among other updates) from the normal repositories, but still persisted after I downgraded to 3.0.6.
My attempts at Googling have so far revealed mainly hardware errors, which don't seem to fit with the devices working on another OS on the same pc.
    Thanks.

  • WRT350N - USB Storage; How to??

    Hello all,
This is the first time I have entered this forum! It looks excellent.
A week ago I bought myself a wireless-N router, the WRT350N. I bought this one because of the excellent reviews and most of all because of the USB-storage link.
This router works very fine. I have already connected my HP C5180 All In One.
However, now I want to connect my external hard drive. This is untill now not successfull. I hope someone can help me.
    I'm running:
    - notebook from HP, the DV9870ED with Windows Vista.
    - external drive, a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 250 GB with USB 2.0. This external HD is not empty. The File System is NTFS.
When I look 'in' the router I can see my External HD. As far as I know I have shared it. I have not claimed it, because in my opinion it looks like this will erase the HD and it is stored with important data. What is the next step or what are the next steps?
Please, can someone hand out a tutorial or a step-by-step manual?
    Thanking you in advance.
    Kind Regards.

    Hi,
NTFS works. No need to reformat, existing data is safe (unless you use Linksys to erase it).
On the first tab "Disk", have you done "Create Share"?
On the next tab "Shares", it should show the HD under "Share Name" as "All_Partitions".
Press "Create New Share", give it a "Share Name" and save.
You might have to set permissions under "Share Access".
Under the tab "Administration", set the "Machine Name" and "Workgroup Name" I used the same WG as my network.
Under "User Management", "User Name / Properties", set a password.
You can also setup "FTP Server", both local and internet access.
It's a couple of month since I set mine up.
    Good luck,
    dRdoS7.

  • WRT350N FTP access to USB storage

I have my WRT350N setup.  all computers within my LAN can access my usb storage device.   I can not access my usb storage device using a computer outside my LAN.
if you log on to 99.225.89.229:8080 it will ask you for user id and pass word to log into my router.
if you try to log on to 99.225.89.229:21 it wont even connect asking you for a user id and password.
my guess is the router is not allowing port 21 to be accessed, but I'm not sure.  Any one know how to fix this problem?

Upgrade the router with a latest firmware first..
Once its upgraded reset the router for 30 sec and then reconfigure the router again..
Open the FTP port 21 on the port range triggering option.
Basically port range triggering is for the incomming ports and when you try to access the USB from outside LAN then this port 21 will help you with it..

  • Can't connect to USB Storage on WRT610N

I'm using Windows Vista and I can't connect to my USB storage device connected to my WRT610N.  Following the instructions provided, I select Network from the Start Menu.  The instructions read to select WRT610N from the computer category and not from the network infrastructure categoy.  WRT610N is visible.  When selected the Connect to WRT610N username and password window appear.  I type my current router password and the Okay button remains grayed out.  The window remains reading Connecting to WRT610N with no progress.
    How do I connect.
Message Edited by 10-36 on 12-27-2008 07:13 PM

Disable firewall and anti-virus software on your computer. Try to follow the procedure below regarding Windows Vista.
    Click Start
    Click Network
You will be notified if file sharing is turned off. Click the message.
Click Turn On network discovery and file sharing.
Double click wrt610n listed in the Computer Category.
If you do not see the wrt610n listed in the Computer Category, then enter the default server name, wrt610n in the Search Field, and press the Enter Key.
In the username and password field, enter the default username and password, admin.

  • E4200 USB Storage Issue - Connection drops / router hangs

I'm having issues with maintaining a reliable connection to the USB drive connected to my new E4200.  Here are the situation:
    (1)  I can successfully share the drive and map it from any computer on the network as expected
    (2)  After mapping the drive, I try to copy files/folder to the mapped drive.  It starts off ok, but within a few seconds/minutes, I'll begin getting the message "the specified network name is no longer available".  The drive status will show "disconntected" or "reconnecting"
    (3)  When this happens, the router will often stop accepting new connections (i.e. the DHCP function stops working).  However, some of the computer that are connected continue to work / have internet access.
    (4)  Restarting the router (i.e. pulling the power and plugging it back in) gets things working again.  Things are good until I try to map the drive and begin copying files again.
    Here's some other parameter info:
    (a)  I'm running the latest (only) firmware available: 1.0.00 build 13
    (b)  Per Linksys support, I've reflashed the firmware.  Didn't make any difference
    (c)  I'm working in a wired environment (this is not a wirelss issue...although it happens via wireless the same way)
    (d)  I'm running Win XP SP3 (have also tried on Vista HE 64...same results)
    (e)  The USB disk is a Seagate FreeAgent 1.5 TB (which is on the list of compatible devices for this router)
    (f)  I do most of my work at the command line with NET USE commands.  The files are being copied via ROBOCOPY and or XCOPY.  Just basic scripting.  Note:  I get the same results if I use Windows Explorer to map/copy files.
    (g)  I've validated the Seagate drive is not the issue by plugging in the the computer and using it for several days.  Have had no issues copying files to it  It's formatted as NTFS.  Chkdsk and SeaTools show no issues with the drive.
    (h)  I am copying large volumes of data (i.e. entire folders of movies, backups of "USERS" folder, etc.).
    (i)  It's not any one paritcular file or folder this issue occurs on.  It will make a little progress, then flake out.  Upon restarting, it will make a little more, then flake out, etc.
    (j)  Just to be safe, I turned off the sleep mode/spin down option on the FreeAgent drive to ensue that wasn't the problem.
    (k)  I haven't made any elaborate router settings (haven't changed many defaults).  Haven't turned on FTP, Media Server functions, etc.  I've just done some basic things like (1) change the ssid (2) set up some DHCP reservations (3) changed the security to WPA2 (4)  changed admin password (5) set up port forwarding for two apps.  I've not created any policies, turned on guest accounts, enabled logging, etc.
    (l)  I am doing all of the above with an admin account (on the router, I created an admin user acccount for myself).  I've been careful to always map the drive with that userid/password.
Is anyone else having reliability issues with access to thier attached USB storage.  I was very hopeful that the storage attached to the router would be readily available.  I'm not expecting or needing great performance, but do need it to be "always on" for the purposes of sharing files and executing backups.  Eventually, I would like to use some of the other features of the router (streaming video the PS3 and external FTP access for example).  However, for now, I just want the attached storage to work.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

oops, well now i see your full question. i asked you some ?s in the other thread you posted in.. but they seemed to be answered here..
ok, solely speaking about this E42 router, i have had it for 2 weeks now and i had a buffalo 500gb drive on the usb port. i had all sorts of junk on the drive..just random files, etc, and the ones that were supported by the PS3 would stream fine form the drive. i even have a sony BD player (s770) and its able to see the files and drive and stream. the PS3 is wired and the BD player is wireless. i have a laptop (wireless) and it has the same results.
last night i purchased a seagate go flex 2TB and plan to ONLY put media type files on this drive and try and clean things up and stop being lazy.. so far i have transferred a FEW small video and audio files from a wired computer with zero issues.
now let me ask, when you are transferring these huge files, are you like copying a folder and pasting it onto the mapped seagate drive? or are you doing individual files, etc? i dont have a folder with a bunch of GBs of files but i will try and see if i can reproduce the problem you see.
however thus far with the few small media files i have transferred on this new go flex 2TB drive, they have all transferred over. im talking about a couple GBs worth -ish...

  • Cannot Access USB Storage on WRT610N From My Computer

    Hi ,
I am uable to access my files on the USB Storage Device connected to WRT610. Its configured properly. I can see the drive on my network. When I double click it asks for password which I enter and it takes me to the shared folder. But when I click it it says Not Accessible....You donot have the persmission. FTP works fine.
I have noticed that on the disk page in the Shared Folder Area when you click on the Summary, the box with Groups With Access is Empty. Whereas on the FTP area in the same summary it clearly mentions the admin group.
I have tried every thing including factory reset, hard reset, using new group, new user name etc...but no joy.
The technician from Linsys even spent an hour on my computer and ultimately he gave up and gave me number to contact technical support.
Any Ideas Guys. Its driving me mad!!!
    Regards
    Nilesh

Let me know the current firmware version in the Router? If the firmware in the Router is an older version then upgrade it with the latest one which can be downloaded from the Linksys/Cisco website. After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the Router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status of the storage..
NOTE: Before upgrading the firmware must disconnect the USB DRIVE. As the drive connect may corrupt data on the drive, so as a precaution make sure the user safely disconnects the drive by using the button in the Storage page that says Safely Remove Disk

I've activated the USB storage and media on the phone. But still it's not working. I'm using T2mobile Flame and my OS version is 2.0. Build ID: 20141016183911
I've written a blog about how I updated it here: http://raiyadraad.blogspot.com/2015/02/how-to-update-firefox-os-13-to-20-with.html
I'm having this problem after updating to firefox OS 2.0
